I love Clive Owen! Was Elizabeth: The Golden Age good? I liked the first Elizabeth; I really want to see this one. I almost bought it when I was at Best Buy, but then I figured they'd release both as a set, so I'll wait.

But is it good?
Fancy_New_Becca
pax, it's good but it's no where near as good as the first movie. I kept trying to figure out was missing. You might like it more than me. That first one though was amazing I thought

I went to see Le Scaphandre et le papillon (in english The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) last night. It's about this man who has locked-in syndrome and how he wrote his book--for it's based on the real person who wrote a book with the same name during that time. It was really good, revolutionary in terms of cinematography, the soundtrack was great, and it was touching and very thought provoking. I liked it, but it was very claustrophobic and it really shook me, which is the point, you really feel how he must have felt and how people in such circumstances feel.

The family and I went to see "The Spiderwick Chronicles", and I would give it an A. My wife and son knew more about the story than me, so everything was new to me. It was funny, sad, and spooky.

anyone seen the new ryan reynolds movie this weekend??
mrs.snooks
I can't wait to go see Semi-Pro with Will Ferrell laugh.gif

I bought hubby "Spaceballs" for his birthday. I'm really surprised we don't already have it, but it's one of those funny classics we need to add to our collection smile.gif.

It's getting good reviews. Who knew?

I liked Idiocracy. It fell just a tiny bit short, but it was still good.

Heathers is a good movie. I haven't seen it in years, but I can still quote most of it.

I watched 1408 and The Tripper last night. 1408 had some really incredible moments, but I was let down a little by the end. I won't spoil it, but it strays from the short story.

The Tripper was written and directed by David Arquette, and has a pretty neat cast made up of isn't-that-the-guy-from-that-one-movie? types (character actors). It's a slasher flick about a dude who dresses up like Ronald Reagan and kills... everybody. It looked like he was supposed to be taking sides by wiping out a bunch of filthy hippies, but he also goes after the evil conservatives that are picking on them. I don't know. It had potential to be a lot funnier, and there was plenty of room for tons of political satire, but they pretty much blew it. For instance, there's one scene where a bunch of small-town people are sitting in a diner and watching GWB give his "Mission Accomplished" speech. The waitress says, "That there is the greatest president ever" (I'm paraphrasing). There are so many easy jokes to take out of that speech. The one they chose was probably the weakest joke possible. Still, I guess there are a couple of quality kills if you're into that sort of thing, and you get to see Pee Wee Herman covered in poop.

Fingers crossed that Kevin Smith's Red State will make me forget about this one.

Just watched Vacancy. It was pretty decent--I haven't watched a horror/slasher flick in a while. Hated the ending, though.I would recommend it.

I thought the movie was decent also. I had no idea from the previews that they would be a bickering couple. It was a refreshing change from the happy go-lucky couple that make a wrong turn.

I've seen the tripper on the shelf at the video store. I've debated on it but I think now I will advoid it, thanks diapers. the kevin smith thing looks promising.

I just watched Benny & Joon. Ahh, I love that movie. I've seen it before, but its great every time. Full of great acting in that movie. And I don't think Johnny Depp can get any more adorable!
I would have liked to see Aidan Quinn in more things when he was that age, he has gorgeous eyes. I feel like he wasn't in too much, besides Legends of the Fall. Good movie, I recommend it!

I watched "Farce of the Penguins" on Saturday. laugh.gif It's a spoof of "March of the Penguins" and instead of Morgan Freeman narrating, the have Samuel L. (Chang) Jackson narrating. lol. Bob Saget, Tracey Morgan and many many many other comedians do the voices of the penguins. It's a very R rated film, but it's absolutely hilarious if you're into that kind of thing.

You might still want to see it because it has Jason Mewes and Lucas Haas in it. The guy who played The Punisher (Not Dolph Lundgren, the other one) plays a badass sheriff. He's pretty good in it.

Ever seen "Half Baked"? Bob Saget has a couple lines in that movie that you would never expect him to say. It's hilarious! I've actually heard that he has some of the dirtiest stand-up you can find.

I had a blast at the end of the movie when it said who played each penguin. I had no idea so many great comedians were in it. Actually, I think the cast of Full House was in it! laugh.gif

No, only you talk about stinkers. You also talk about really good movies.

My favorites are George Romero movies. His stuff is a little askew, and he usually finds a way of adding some social commentary without beating you over the head with it...except I hear that's exactly what he did with his newest one. I also think Evil Dead 2 is one of the greatest movies of all-time, but that's really more of a comedy. You know, now that I think about it, I've seen tons of horror movies over the years, but none of them other than Romero's and Raimi's really stuck with me.

Have you seen Dead Alive (Brain Dead)? It's a zombie flick that Peter Jackson made between Meet the Feebles (I still owe you that disc) and Heavenly Creatures. Here's a pretty funny scene of a priest beating up a bunch of zombies. There's some gore, but not as much as the lawnmower scene.
Bailey08
Heavenly Creatures is one of the most disturbing movies ever made.

Here are the last three movies I've seen: THERE WILL BE BLOOD, JUMPER, and NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN.

THERE WILL BE BLOOD: Daniel Day-Lewis has to be the odds-on favorite for Best Actor, but man, was this movie boring! Let me sum it up for you: Here's a pr*ck, watch him be a pr*ck to absolutely everyone and anyone he comes across, and at the end, he's still a pr*ck. Powerful acting, but that story goes nowhere. And the ending just gives you a "huh?" moment. B-

JUMPER: Anakin can act! He's no Leo DiCaprio, but Hayden Christensen is miles better in this flick than he was in either STAR WARS prequel ... which is a bitter indictment on George Lucas' inability to write good dialogue. The effects were good, the expectations were low, and Sam L. Jackson (wow, Anakin and Mace Windu reunited!) hammed it up as the villian. B-

NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN: This is the film that's going to sweep more Oscars than anything else? Really? Don't get me wrong, Javier Bardem is absolutely electrifying as sociopathic Anton Chigurh, and the scenery is beautiful, but why was Tommy Lee Jones even in this movie? Very discombobulated but very intense, yet the ending was sorely lacking. A-

I just loaded up my Netflix queue with a bunch of Cary Grant and Sandra Dee movies. I can't wait to watch all of them! There are a little over 30 classics on the list (not counting the other 30 movies on our list), so I'm ready to watch movies for the rest of the year tongue.gif.

I have seen dead alive diapers. I loved it. Ive not seen the others you said. This heavenly creatures is one I'm going to have to see if my local video store has.

I like George romeros stuff. Raimi is brillant. Ive got a site, I check out for some stuff you might like. I'll find it later and send it to you. Sometimes it has some interesting stuff on it.

I'm trying to appericate the asian horror scene and for the most part, I'm having trouble getting into it. I've found a couple that aren't so bad. The Audtition has been my fav so far. The ending was worth it. But, I find their process to be strung out and not thought out.

tim halpert, you really liked no country for old men? I thought it was okay not as electric as it's been hyped but good. I much perfered the strong silence of Josh Brolin over Bardem's.He was great and think he will get the oscar no doubt, but his hair was just distracting for me.

No, I can't say that I liked NCFOM that much. I mean, it was brilliantly acted and directed (and supposedly extremely faithful to the source material, which is always a plus in my book), but I don't understand Tommy Lee Jones' character being in this movie to the extent he was ... he does nothing in the movie. But Bardem's Anton Chigurh was a revelation: magnetic, intense, and flat-out scary. As in you didn't want to ever make eye contact with this guy. But again, Tommy Lee just waxed philosophic wayy too much for my liking.

I've tried a few. Some of them look incredible but they lose something in the translation. Old Boy was really interesting until the last half hour or so. I thought it sort of fell apart, like they didn't know how they wanted to end it. I'd still like to see it again to find out how well it plays out once you know where the plot is going.

I watched Dragon Wars last night. What a weird movie. It's like a mega-budget b-flick. The CGI work is incredible; way better than anything in Narnia. The story didn't make a lot of sense to me, but I'll admit that I was doing chores while waiting for the next time the monsters showed up. The two leads came off like they were reading cue cards. You'd think that with all of the money they were spending, they would have found a few bucks more to hire some real actors. It's worth the rental just for the awesome battle scenes, but the movie as a whole isn't very good.

Oh, but Darryl's in it, and he's always good...so pay attention to his parts and ignore the heroes.

Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
Now that there is one hilarious movie. Mel Brooks is a genius. I have seen it a billion times, but I watched it last night after not having watched it for a long time. I laughed out loud throughout the whole movie, especially when the characters all check their scripts to see if something was supposed to happen! rolling.gif A seriously great film.
Where the he.ll is Cary Elwes? He was amazing in this and Princess Bride, that kind of humor is rare. I know he has had small roles here and there, but that talent was kind of wasted. I guess we just have to cherish those good films that were done oh so well.

Mel Brooks was a genius. Young Frankenstein, The Producers, Blazzing Saddles, Silent Movie... Brilliant!

History of the World Part One... Decent

Spaceballs... Not so decent, but it's Star Wars themed and has John Candy in it so I can watch it.

Life Stinks... Had its moments

Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Dracula: Dead and Loving It... Blech

I will say this though. Mel Brooks' awful parodies are still a gazillion times better than any Epic Movie, Date Movie, Scary Movie or Meet the Spartans.

I think that's the problem. It's not the worst thing out there, but when you compare it to his earlier works, it falls flat. If it was made by any other director, I'd be like, "That was pretty stupid, but kind of funny. Not a total waste of my time", but when you think about it in within the spectrum of his career, it's heartbreaking to see how far he's fallen.

He's like the directorial equivalent of Eddie Murphy. Both of them were so groundbreaking and edgy early in their careers, but then... sad.gif

I can't believe this is the same guy who made Nazis and racism funny.

Edit: BTW, J4N, I didn't mean to suggest that you had bad taste. What I meant to say is that if you think Men in Tights is funny, you should check out his older films.

Oh man, Mel Brooks is one of my all-time favorites. My brother got me a double pack with Robin Hood: Men in Tights and Spaceballs for my birthday last year. Funny, she doesn't look Druish. Classic.

My roommate bought Across the Universe last week and we watched it on Valentine's Day. It never really came out around here so we had to wait. Loved it though and would gladly have paid to see it in theaters.

I've been wanting to get this movie about koreas first serial killer. I think asian horror relys on the suspense but american suspense is so different from the asian market it gets lost as diapers says.

Tim, you know I wondered why they modeled tommy lee jones character after Dr.phil. Everytime he gave one of his speils, I thought, dr.phil. That bothered me a lot for some reason.

A great paraody....Woody Allens, What's up Tiger Lily. Brillant for it's time and still funny.

Blazzing saddles has to be my fav brooks movie. The reasons are countless biggrin.gif
