All in all, it is a very well-made movie. I do respect it for that. But I just can't watch it again. Twice was enough for me. smile.gif

I haven't watched it in years, it's not one of those movies to watch over and over again. wink.gif

So here's my cool trivia fact: Juliet Hulme moved to England and grew up to be a prolific mystery writer, using the pen name Anne Perry. I don't know if everyone here is a bookworm like me, but I've seen that name for years and I was surprised to find out that she was one of the girls from Heavenly Creatures.

Yeah, I knew that one of them was a writer, but I've never knew much about it or read anything of hers.
Fancy_New_Becca
how scary the othe girl runs a riding school. I wouldn't let either woman near my childern.

I'm going to try to watch lust, caution today

I watched The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947) tonight. It doesn't matter how many times I've seen the movie- the ending gets me every time sad01.gif (But in a good way)

That's one of my mother's favorite movies. I can't watch it; it's so sad. sad.gif

Eventually, we'll get The Maltese Falcon from Netflix. Opinions about it?
JAM4EVA_1
Can I discuss movies I dislike in here? unsure.gif

I hate all Bring it On movies.. Ha ha.
Fancy_New_Becca
after a nap I put on Lust Caution. After 2 hrs and 35 mins I feel like I can speak chinese or what ever they were speaking. My eyes hurt from reading subtitles. The story itself is very good. But it's not a movie for those with little attention spans and younger ones cause those sex scenes were pretty hot. Alittle too realistic ya know. Oh and apparently women in china in the 40's share something with french women, they don't shave their armpits! 29_3_13.gif How you going to do a hot and sweaty sex scene and then show that.
Ang lee is just a wonderful wonderful director. I wub.gif his stuff.

Just watched The Illusionist--wow, that was a good movie!!!
JAM4EVA_1
Illusionist is amazing!
PaxLux
I liked the first Bring It On movie. It's like mine and Mr. PL's guilty pleasure. laugh.gif

I can't wait to see The Illusionist! And The Prestige!
JAM4EVA_1
What?! Paxy! tongue.gif

You haven't seen either yet? You need to get on that! (TWSS..) I personally like the Illusionist better than The Prestige... biggrin.gif
Fancy_New_Becca
i loved loved the illusionist. Thats a good movie. I was kinda surprised by it actually
JAM4EVA_1
Yeah I know! I watched that first, and then I watched the Prestige, and I felt let down. It just wasn't as good as the Illusionist. biggrin.gif
Fancy_New_Becca
^^ The ending was the let down I think
JAM4EVA_1
Yeah it was too crazy! laugh.gif

This feels like Deva Vu, but yeah, I agree. I really likes The Illusionist. Didn't like The Prestige at all. I hated the characters in that movie and just got so fed up.

I finally "watched" Stardust today. Man, I can not sit and watch a movie all the way through these days. While I "watched" it, I got my laundry done, did the dishes, took out the trash, and was online. Now, I can get a new movie finally, one that will sit for a month before I "watch" it. rolleyes.gif
Office_holic
Well I watched The Last Legion it wasnt great but wasnt too bad. I guess tolerable is a good word? Colin Firth, was in it along with the boy from Love Actually(character Sam) and Kevin McKidd from Rome and Journeyman(he was the bad guy).

oh yeah PPV rates went up too dry.gif

Exactly!! Who is the main actor again, in the Illusionist? I always forget his name.. Ha ha.
Wedd329
I had The Illusionist on Tivo since July 22--4 days before Jay came to us, so we just got around to watching it now. We have had The Prestige since September--that one is definitely next on the list. I said that last night while we were watching it!

EDIT: Edward Norton was in The Illusionist.
Oh, and yeah, last night I was too lazy to do the search for the prior conversations on the movies. I knew that they were there, though, if that counts for anything!
Fancy_New_Becca
I watched Office Space to fall asleep last night. I wub.gif that movie so much

I heard a little 'The Fountain' chatter... WATCH IT! It is definitely the kind of movie that you have to watch again and again to fully understand. Hugh Jackman is amazing, as always, and its just so bizarre that it gets you thinking. It definitely stays with you for a while--for days. I guess you either love it or hate it and I love it.

Agreed! A very good movie that demands repeated viewings.

I don't think I've seen any of the movies up for the Best Picture Oscar.

I was asked to go see that Jack Black movie, be kind rewind or whatever. I said no thanks. I don't think Jack Black is funny.

I just saw Lars and the Real Girl and it was AWESOME!! It SOOO sweet (especially for a movie about a guy and a sex doll) and I'm usually not into "sweet", either. Oh, and I cried like a 16 year-old who just got dumped at the prom. sad01.gif
Fancy_New_Becca
^^ Yeah I thought it was one of the years best.

I watched heavenly creatures again. Yeah it's still weird if not weirder when on cold meds

I really wanted to see that, but it never made it to a theater near enough to me. I'm glad to hear it's worth seeing.

I finally got to unwrap and watch Becoming Jane this evening. I saw it in the theater, but that was ages ago. I had forgotten just how wonderful it is. Normally, I'm not a big fan of Anne Hathaway (she's always ranked on the "okay" list for me), but I really loved her in this film. James McAvoy was simply amazing as well. The story was heartfelt and bittersweet as it ends as it should and not how we hope it will, which is what makes this movie so beautiful. Jane Austen is a hero of mine, so it was fun to watch how she might have been inspired to write Pride & Prejudice. The story presented in the movie may or may not be true, but it was beautifully told, nonetheless. On a side note, the music absolutely amazing. I'll be trekking over to amazon.com shortly to see how much they want for it! Anyway, if you like Jane Austen or a story that tells what lies in every human heart, give this film a chance.

Perhaps we've broken out of our movie drought! You'll have to let me know if Gone Baby Gone is any good. I'm not sure about that one.

i have no idea what it's about, LOL. I just know that Ben directed and Casey stars, so I'm going to see it.

We'll have to see if the drought is over by the amount of time it takes me to actually watch the movies!

OMG- I loved that movie when I was a kid. I should really watch it again, because I have no idea what it is about. The only thing I remember is a scene with a woman in a red dress, LOL
BlueJeanBaby05
I went to Best Buy today and they had some pretty good deals. I got Adaptation for 7 bucks and The Secret of Nimh for my son. I used to love that movie when I was little, but I could never remember what it was about. Watching it now, I kinda understand why. I think it's kinda a complicated plot-line for a child, but maybe that was just me. It obviously still had an impact on me, however. I love the visuals.

-------------------------

Oh and I loved HELP!, too! I loved it when they go to skiing. I remember that whole part making me laugh quite a bit. And I like the soundtrack for that movie a lot, too.

I bought these movies today....I'm looking forward to Death at a funeral

I kinda wanted to see Atonement and now that it's out, I don't want to. I'm sick of hearing about the green dress. Yes, I will actually avoid this movie simply because I'm tired of the dress.

Death a funeral, thats the one by Frank Oz right? That's supposed to be good.

Margot at the wedding is out. I'm going to get that one this weekend

Let me know what you think. wink.gif

I've watched Under the Greenwood Tree about 6 times in the past week. It's charming, and well done, and there's real chemistry between the leads. It's a lot of fun to watch.

I really want to see Once. I love the music from it already and I haven't even seen it. Has anyone seen it yet?
Diapers
Two movies I saw last weekend.

The Mad - It's a zombie comedy with Billy Zane. Would that make it a Zane-y comedy or a zomedy? Neither, but it had its moments. (Warning: Zombie gore)

The Bridge to Taribithia - More like The Bridge to Terriblyboring. It's a kids movie, but I can't imagine too many kids sitting through it. And all that CGI stuff that you might have seen in the previews...that only makes up about forty seconds of the entire film.

I have been waiting very impatiently for Death at a Funeral to come out on DVD. I saw it in the theater and absolutely loved it. I'm a British film/comedy nut, so this was right up my alley. It was hilarious! Plus, one of my favorite British actors was in it:

Have you seen The Way We Live Now? He's very funny in that. He plays a disolute momma's boy baronet who has gambled away his inheritance, and is set on marrying a fortune, while keeping a mistress, and being charmingly slimy in the process. laugh.gif

I watched It Happened One Night & I can't believe how long it's been. I love that film oh so much. And Mr.Gable, you can dunk me anytime you want wub.gif. Well, maybe back than cause yeah. Anyway, I still tear up when Ellie confesses to Peter that she loves him. Part of me wishes he confessed his feelings but I was much more content with her running away at her own wedding & watching the walls of Jericho come down laugh.gif. The comedy aspect of the film was pretty good too. I always thought Clark was more of a comedian than a serious actor. I can totally understand how this film won all 5 leading Oscars. In fact, it was the first film to sweep all the major catergories. It's one of those marvelous films that you always have time for & at the end, you always manage to have smile on your face even though you know what happens everytime. And phew, the chemistry was fab. I saw the sparks from the get go. Oh, what a lovely, lovely film wub.gif.

Tomorrow evening will probably be Libeled Lady or Charade, as I'll be busy the next few nights.

I agree! Great review, PIP! I watched this movie for the first time about a month ago and really loved it. The 2 main characters work so well together and it was just a really cute movie smile.gif. I had always thought of Clark Gable as kind-of a slimeball because of what I remember of him in Gone With the Wind, but in this movie he was quite a funny guy! I was skeptical at the beginning of the movie, but had to loosen up and just enjoy his performance. It was refreshing smile.gif.

I have a couple of classics on my netflix queue that are now offered on the "view instantly" category, so I should probably watch them soon. I'll try to post after I see them smile.gif.

'Sank you smile.gif. The two leads really did work together & they're part of the reason why the film got four stars & swept all those major Oscar catergories. Luckily I saw IHON before Gone With The Wind, as I found Clark to be dreamy in that film too laugh.gif. I'll make him give a d@mn wub.gif laugh.gif. But his performance was really good too. He's no Cary Grant though. He's the ultimate leading man & will always be.

Ooh which films do you have on your netflix? Maybe I haven't seen 'em & I'm looking for "new" classics to watch, as TCM's selection hasn't been great lately. But, I requested Country Girl from my local library & I'm looking forward to watch it, even though it's a drama.

And yeah, I ended up watching Charade haha. I needed something with Paris & Cary.

We watched "All Quiet On The Western Front" last night in my class. I remember watching it twice in High School, but couldn't remember how I felt about it or if I felt anything. But I think being sick has kinda fogged up my judgment, because all I wanted to do was get out of there. It's very hard to watch a movie when you feel that way.

For my class, this was supposed to be our introduction into two things: The Talkies (or just plain sound in film) and The Studio System. So, I tried to pay really close attention to the sound in this film and imagine what it would have been like to have watched it for the first time in 1930. It was really rich. smile.gif

But alas I'm still mainly a visual person, so what really struck me was the last scene. I couldn't remember how it ended in the film, but I certainly remember how it ended in the book. I was curious throughout the whole movie, to see how it was dealt with. I really do like how they handled it. Oh, and this very very final image, just haunts me.

So, guess what we're watching next week? LOL. We're watching It Happened One Night. laugh.gif I've seen this movie twice already and love it as well. I can't wait to see it again. I might even move up to the front of the class to get a better view. Oh and I also agree 100% with PIP's review. smile.gif
