yes it does look like a vampire. laugh.gif I get ya about the under lining themes and commentary. There are a couple of previews on the 30 days dvd thats pretty funny. I may have to check out Zombie strippers just for the name alone. laugh.gif But, the movie, Black water doesn't look half bad.

This movie looks very interesting The Fall

After watching that, I'm not really sure what it's about. . . at least not enough to be sure that I want to see it. Did you notice bubble, the woman in the purple dress is Justine Waddell who played Molly Gibson in Wives and Daughters? Gorgeous woman.

I thought she looked familiar.....

This is the plot outline I found for the movie:
In a hospital a little girl with a broken collar bone meets a bedridden man who starts telling her a fantastical story which reflects his state of mind. As time goes by fiction and reality start to intertwine in this uplifting epic fantasy.

*Edit*
It was supposedly filmed in 26 different countries. I'm sure the cinematography will be amazing

Yes!

It does look interesting, and the cinematography looks really well done. But it came out in 2006, how'd we miss this one? laugh.gif It got a really high rating on Imdb as well, 8.6/10. Sounds interesting enough to check out. Thanks bubble!

It hasn't been released in the US yet. I think it's suppose to be in theaters in a few months (probably in "limited release" rolleyes.gif )

I watched Shall We Dance (1937) and An American in Paris (1951) this weekend. I absolutely loved Shall We Dance. It was such a fun, feel-good movie with a lot of good dancing, singing, and a great cast. Fred and Ginger were a great pair... I can see why they're in so many movies together smile.gif. I might have to add it to my collection. An American in Paris was kinda slow yet choppy at times and it was harder for me to get into. The random solo dreamish sequences were hard for me to watch all of... I ended up fast-forwarding a lot of them blush.gif ... and I told my hubby that those parts were a little too artsy for me. No offense to anyone, but I like the more straightforward warm-and-fuzzy movies a little better. It was a cute movie and I love Gene Kelly (he would've been on my top 5 list if I had lived in the 40's-50's! wub.gif ), but I'd probably give it a 7/10. Anyway....

Hubby and I went to see Semi-Pro on Saturday night. It was hilarious laugh.gif. There were so many parts where we were laughing out loud and I was fighting back tears from laughing so hard. I'm a huge Will Ferrell fan, so I thought the movie was great, but there were a couple scenes/aspects that really turned me off from it. The sex scene between Woody Harrelson and Maura Tierney was a little too "hello" for me and was kind-of awkward as a viewer. Also, I really didn't like how much language was in the movie, specifically the f-bomb and how often it was used. I know this language is used in his other movies, but it was more frequent in this movie. I dunno... I just enjoy the comedy (no matter how inappropriate) without the language. We probably won't buy this one (for the above reasons), but if you enjoy Will Ferrell and his humor (as we do), you'll probably like this movie smile.gif. Oh, and Andre Benjamin was excellent as an actor! I don't know if I've seen him in anything before... or if he's been in anything, but he was a lot of fun to watch. The basketball scenes seemed realistic and very well done (unlike a lot of movies about sports) and Jackie Moon's hit song "Love me Sexy" is absolutely hilarious laugh.gif... and Will Ferrell has a great voice!!! Anyway, I highly recommend it smile.gif.

I watched Double Harness (1933) tonight. It's up on TCM.com for free viewing either for the week or month (I can't remember). I liked it- it was very short at only about 70 minutes. It was based on a play and you could get the feeling that it was from watching it. But it was still entertaining. Its unfortunate that this movie isn't available on DVD- but so many unknown classic movies will probably never be released. I am glad I got to see it though

Is this type of thing a regular occurence at TCM.com? I mean, do they often offer a free viewing?

I *think* they have a free viewing of a movie every month- but I'm not 100% sure about that. They do have thousands of clips and trailers for movies on their site though. It would take forever to watch all of them

I finally got around to finishing Country Girl & wow, what a phenomal film. That really says something cause I rarely use the word phenomal to describe a film. Anyway, lately I haven't been watching films that make me cry but Country Girl broke that break sad01.gif. Grace Kelly blew me away the entire film but one scene that really did it was when she gave that monologue(sp?) about her husband Frank Elgin (Bing Crosby) to Bernie Dodd (William Holden), on how she wanted Frank to finally be able to stand on his own two feet. It'll make more sense to those who watched that film but d@mn, that scene proved that she deserved the Oscar she won for that role & film. Just amazing. I have more respect & admiration for her as an actress than I did watching any of her other films & roles. Also, she delivers that famous line that's featured in the beginning of Mika's song, Grace Kelly. Y'know, "the last we talked Mr. Smith (Dodd) you reduced me to tears, but I promise you it won't happen again!" Now I finally know where it's from laugh.gif. The rest of the cast was fantastic too, but Grace Kelly was the best. To watch her transform from a timid, dowdy insecure wife to a stunning, headstrong & well spoken woman was a feat itself. I could say so much more about this film but I'll just say that it's one of the best films ever. I know I always recommend many films but this is one that everyone & everyone must see because for me, I really couldn't appreciate films until I watched this one. I'm definitely gonna add it to my DVD collection, because a film like this cannot only be watched just once. It needs to be appreciated & loved with every viewing wub.gif.

Really? I've heard positives and negatives about it. How does it compare to Hitchcock's other movies?

Finally watched Balls of Fury. I liked it. Cracked me up. I wasn't happy that Masi Oka's (wub.gif) character got kicked in the face, but hey. smile.gif

I think I'll just buy Juno when it comes out. What's the harm? happy.gif

I watched 3 movies the last few days. Dark Victory (1939) was the first I watched. I loved it but it was such a sad movie. Bette Davis was amazing in it though. Then I watched Love Me Tonight (1932). It was a fun movie- and interesting as it is a pre-code musical. The songs are really catchy too. And the last one I watched was Chocolat (2000). Amazingly I'd never seen this movie but I loved it. I really liked how it was a very character driven movie and how one person can change the lives of so many people (I was hungry after I finished watching it though- all that candy and chocolate laugh.gif )

Okay I'm getting a movie called Flawless with Michael Caine and Demi moore. It doesn't look half bad actually. It's about a diamond hesit in london.

oh veebs, I love love bette davis! It's terrible that she had bit parts in some movies. She's one of my favs. I hated seeing her in all those b movies towards the end. She was way better than that
vbarkley
Yeah, Three on a Match was one of Bette's early films, before she was a big star.

I'm watching The Reluctant Debutante starring Rex Harrison, Kay Kendall and Sandra Dee. Also with Angela Lansbury, who is pretty funny so far.

Here's a behind the scenes tidbit:
QUOTE
Kay Kendall met and fell in love with Rex Harrison, who was married at the time, after they appeared together in The Constant Husband (1955). Rex learned of Kay's leukemia from her doctor a couple of years later. He divorced actress Lilli Palmer and quickly married Kay in 1957, agreeing with the doctor never to tell her the reason for her failing health. They lived the good life up until the end.
Kay Kendall died September 6, 1959. sad01.gif
prettyinpink86
I got around to watching High Anxiety earlier today & I gotta say that it was pretty d@mn funny rolling.gif. Mel Brooks is a genius. It may not stack up against Young Frankenstein & Robin Hood Men in Tights but it was still pretty good. The most memorable scene was when Richard Thorndyke (Mel Brooks) & Victoria Brisbane (Madeline Kahn) were acting as that old married Yiddish couple in the airport. That part where they tried to figure out how that guy (forgot his name) tried to walk was classic. Another classic scene was where the bellhop beat Richard with the newspaper & after the bellhop throws a royal hissy fit & leaves Richard goes "that kid gets no tip". They way they parodied Pyscho was great rolling.gif. There were many great scenes & lines, & the Hitchcock spoofs were spot on laugh.gif.

Dr. Richard H. Thorndyke: What's your sign?
Victoria Brisbane: I'm sorry. It's... unlisted.

Dr. Richard H. Thorndyke: You want to x-ray the celery? What do you think we're smuggling dope in the celery? The celery's not for dope. It's for dip!

Such a fantastic film. I use to think that Lucille Ball was the funniest woman but I know think Madeline Kahn deserves that title. She's was frigging hilarious in all the Mel Brooks films she's been in & she was an absolute riot in The Cheap Detective, which is another great parody film.
vbarkley
Oh, and Brophy, with the luggage -

Pre-code in general refers to the Hays code that was passed in 1934. It limited what could and couldn't be in movies. Love Me Tonight was made in 1932- so it predates the code. Basically they just got away with a lot more stuff than a movie (or musical) could get away with in 1934. This also applies to the lyrics in the songs smile.gif

So it's a horribly rainy and dreary day out- so I decided to go to the movies laugh.gif I remembered Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day came out today. I thought it was really good. Loved the music and costumes. The movie is so fun and upbeat too- you leave the theater feeling happy. My only complaint is that it felt like they could have done more with the movie in certain parts (the dialogue drags a bit through a few scenes at the beginning). I actually think this could attribute more to bad editing than anything. All in all a very cute movie though
SharpSchruter23

I watched Becoming Jane last night. It was OK. It kept my attention at least. And it felt like I was watching a movie about one of her novels- so kudos to them on that aspect.

I also saw Dan in Real Life recently. I adored Steve Carell! It was a cute little movie.

And I saw Enchanted. It was cute. It could have been so much more. And I'm sorry, but I was hoping the pairings wouldn't be the way they were- but that was unrealistic of my to hope for that. wink.gif

I watched the 1939 film The Women but this time, on DVD. Watching it on DVD is better than watching on TCM. Anyway, I laughed much more harder this time around than when I first watched it. Rosalind Russell was an absolute riot rolling.gif. Her role as Mrs. Sylvia Folwer was her best, both as an actress & as a comedienne(sp?) Her best performance of the entire film came here at 4:43. I actually had to stop laughing just so I could breathe rolling.gif. Joan Crawford was an absolute b!tch. She did a phenomal job of making me hate Crystal, her character. The entire cast was amazing & the film featured some of the funniest moments in cinema history. It was just amazing to watch how men changed the life of these women throughout the film, particulary(sp) the lead character Mary Haines, who was portrayed by Norma Shearer, who I had no idea was a Canadian until now. But anyway, the film did an excellent job of portraying the lives of women whose lives are woven by friendship, gossip, men & back-stabbing. It's a definite must watch for a good laugh laugh.gif.

You'd love it. If you thought the girls of Sex & The City were catty, you ain't seen nothing yet laugh.gif. While it's a comedy, there are some dramatic moments too but nothing that you really need a tissue for. Apparently there's talks of a remake with Meg Ryan as the main character. If there's a god, he'd better stop this travesty from happening.

And they want to remake Bell, Book & Candle too. For the love of god, do an original film that won't suck & based off a classic film that nobody can match up today.
