When I heard Tina Fey was going to be in control of a new NBC sitcom, I almost died of happiness. Since Seinfeld and Friends left television, I found myself without a primetime show to laugh at (besides the simpsons and family guy, but those are CARTOONS!) Tina's made me laugh for years on SNL, and her brilliance carried over on the big screen in Mean Girls. I was ecstatic to hear she was headed to primetime, but sad to see her leave SNL. I am so glad it payed off! Tina, Tracy, and ALEC BALDWIN? It's genius, I laughed a TON last night! Congrats NBC, and Tina, I loved it. If you take this show away from me programmers I will BOYCOTT TV! Keep up the good work!

I agree. I just watched the show, and it had me laughing, out loud. Not since Seinfeld, has a show been able to do that for me. Tracey Jordan is crazy, he had me cracking up! And the relationship between Alec and Tina's characters looks promising. I'll be tuning in every week. biggrin.gif

I loved the show too. I can't wait for tonight!!!!!!!!

I noticed 30Rock had a mic scene that was similar to the one on Studio 60 this week. They followed it up with a camera goofup. I wouldn't put it past them to be parodying Studio 60, since both shows are about a "show within a show". Maybe the writers are too clever for a lot of viewers... I thought the Trivection oven bit was witty, but it seems to upset a lot of posters. Maybe I just have a different sense of humor, but I love this show, and I love watching Alec and Tina and Jane.

Seems like innovative comedies usually hit or miss with audiences. If something is beyond wonderful for some folks, it wraps around for other folks into being extremely disliked. It's like when Family Guy pulls a gag that goes on too long -- people either love that or hate that.

Anyone know the designer of the black dress Tina Fey is wearing at the Yacht Party?

huh.gif This is strange...I came on the boards expecting people to be freaking out, but I find that a total of about 6 people actually like this show...WTF?!?!

I fell in love with 30 Rock!! Tina Fey is the best, and when she gets mixed in with Alec and Tracy, it's crazy! I really hope it catches on soon...This show has talent! laugh.gif

Maybe I'm just a sucker for Tina Fey, but this show deserved way more than NBC's 4th place finish for the 8 o'clock hour last Wednesday. Alec Baldwin has some really funny lines (or maybe it's just his delivery) and carries many of the scenes. The writing for Tracy Morgan could be a little better, but his delivery compensates. Sure, Tracy Morgan is no Dave Chappelle or Chris Rock, but he plays his character well; he could very well be the 3rd heat. But heck, if you want some inspiration, just take a page from Diddy's hilariously narcissistic youtube videos and Proactiv commercials.

Contrary to the lukewarm ratings, this show has a very likeable cast that just needs better lines to work with. I hope NBC gives this show a chance to develop because this is an inherently funny concept with a lot of potential. Hopefully it will find its target audience with Conan O'Brien's guest spot. Right now, however, it's all about The Office!

I feel the same way. I love Tina and her style. Maybe it's an acquired taste? A friend warned me that only those who "get it" or were already into Tina's work on SNL and via "Mean Girls" would give it a chance.

All comedies take a while to take root. Ever seen Seinfeld's pilot? Not all that funny. But 30 Rock had me laughing out loud in the second ep, and it's been a long time since a 30 minute sitcom had that effect on me.

As far as this board, I don't understand why people who don't like it come here to say they don't like it? If I don't like something, I don't give it the time of day. I don't talk about it, I don't post about it, because I don't like it. So why would you come here to rail about something you don't like? They're the kind of internet critics who bash everything and praise nothing. But all they're doing by whining about it is creating more buzz. The critics like 30 Rock. It does have a **** time slot, but honestly, most time slots on NBC are **** these days. So we'll just have to hope for the best and know that given half a chance, Tina, Tracy and Alec will shine through.

"Oh SNAP Betty! Someone's at the update door!"

Guh, I hope so. This is basically the only show I make a note to watch (with the exception of Conan of coarse wink.gif ). Seriously though, I hope that the ratings pick up. I <3 this show! smile.gif

That is when we turned the show off. I couldn't believe that they tried to pull the same joke off twice!!! That was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. The writing in this show is not that clever but now they are borrowing jokes from another show with the same concept on the same network?? You have got to be kidding. To me, that was the poorest attempt to get a laugh.

"BURBANK - October 25, 2006 - NBC will return the Emmy Award-nominated "Scrubs" and move freshman comedy "30 Rock" to Thursday nights beginning November 30 to form a new two-hour 8-10 p.m. (ET) comedy block with "My Name Is Earl" and "The Office." The change will follow a special super-sized night of comedy two weeks earlier on Thursday, November 16, with three 40-minute episodes of "My Name Is Earl," "The Office" and "30 Rock."

The announcements were made by Kevin Reilly, President, NBC Entertainment.

"We are excited about the prospect of two-hours of top-notch comedy on Thursday nights, which includes the return of 'Scrubs,'" said Reilly. "We will stay on-brand with the best comedy block on television, which will position us for the future on the night."

Beginning November 30, NBC's Thursday-night lineup will be "My Name Is Earl" (8-8:30 p.m. ET); "The Office" (8:30-9 p.m. ET); "Scrubs" (9-9:30 p.m. ET); and "30 Rock" (9:30-10 p.m. ET). "ER" will continue at 10-11 p.m. (ET).

Starting November 22, NBC will feature various specials on Wednesdays (8-9 p.m. ET), which will soon be announced."

Thank-God...I really thought this show would do so much better in a different time slot.

They are 'tent-polling' this show. They will try to put it between two good shows to try and bring up the ratings. If the writing format continues, it will not suceed.

Never wrote before to comment on a Show but I like so much 30 Rock that I have to!

At first I was curious because of Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin, I thought it was a great combination , not only they are good, THEY ARE GREAT! ... on top of that they brought with them Tracy to spice it up! He is a natural!

I think is a very good comedy show, witty, fast and INTELLIGENT! Maybe not perfect yet, (I don't know because I like it too much I might be bias), but I'm sure that it can only get better!

I'm so tired of the same silly, nonsense, vulgar programming that when I tuned this show I made it a favorite and a must see every week.

The parlaments are quick, smart and creative. GIVE 30 ROCK A BREAK!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!! otherwise we are destined to the same old garbage!

THANK YOU for 30 Rock. I just couldn't bear being disappointed by yet another hyped show this fall - and fortunately you didn't let me down. I have no idea why there's so much negativity on these boards. Haters.

Anyway...an idea - would be a really great addition if you can swing it to have other current/former SNL folks in addition to Rachel (who's been freakin hilarious, btw) play recurring wacky characters in every episode. I know we'd all love to see Jimmy Fallon come on. I know it's not realistic to have him recur, but if you could write in a nutty character to be filled by a variety of our beloved SNL folks across the season, it'd really be the icing on the cake.

Anyway, keep up the good work. This show is not only funny, but different and really well executed. Kudos!

word on the Rachel Dratch. More Dratch!!!!

i AGREE 100% TINA FEY IS HILARIOUS . AND BALDWIN REALLY SUITS THE CHARACTER HERE.

I can't agree with you more:)
I sign up for "NOTHING"... but I'm here... I'm not a television viewer... but I'm here!!!! I friggin LOVE this show... so I'm here!!!! My 14 year old son was having a teenage moment (being mean) and didn't tell me that it was on until 8:20pm (a few minutes before it was to end) So I feverishly turned my television on to caatch the shows ending and then it was announced that I could catch up on nbc.com... so I'm here!!!!!

I haven't laughed so hard in years, tears came to my eyes; last week and this one as well. OMG... I love this show!!!! biggrin.gif
Femtosecond
It's brilliantly smart and witty with an extremely talented ensemble cast, and yet the ratings are bad and it's horribly misunderstood. I predict that as with Arrested Development, it will be loved by college students everywhere (who aren't recorded by neilson) but shunned by old folks and will thus unfortunately eventually fail. I hope I am wrong because I am loving this show. It's the best comedy on TV right now.
the controvert
True that!

I believe this will be a strong night for NBC and a return to the traditional must-see Thursdays format. I'm glad 30 Rock doesn't need to be around the wretched Twenty Good Years any more. As for whether they will succeed, the naysayers need to lighten up and look under the couch cushions for their misplaced sense of humor.

I really love this show, too. I find myself looking forward to it each week. And Tina was super hot in this last episode. mmm... me likey "lesbian" Tina.
ragar200
I have been catching a couple episodes while at work, and its the only show that's actually made me laugh out loud, while checking out the likes of abc/nbc/cbs.com selections.

THIS SHOW IS GREAT!

Tina Fey rocks my socks.

biggrin.gif Good Lord I love this show. I have always been a fan of Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey couldn't be better. The writing is outstanding. I have 2 kids and so I am sometimes unable to watch it in the evening...but I just figured out how to watch the latest episoede online.

I want the first season dvd now.

I don't watch alot of tv...john stewart...Colbert....studio 60...30 rock is my new favorite

You are soooooo RIGHT! " Board Haters" that's hilarious LOL ! This is my first time on these boards and I am amaze how a few people use it to vent their frustrations. Maybe if they take a minute to ENJOY the shows life will be easy on them Lol!
Gemini617
I like this show, however, there are a couple that I hate so I qualify. These boards are not just to show love, it's for opinions. I was hating on Friday Night Lights and the 20 Good Years laughtrack. But Heroes, Studio 60, and 30 Rock I have nothing but love for.

I fully agree. This show sucks. It would not be funny even with a laugh track. Alec Baldwin is miscast. The page is not funny. Tracy Morgan I have no idea of what the deal is with him. He certainly does not belong here. This show is destined for the brilliantbutcancelled.com bin only it is not brilliant. I did not laugh at all and will not be watching this show anymore. Hopefully they will swap 30 Rock and Twenty Good Years and then put on something worthy of our having to sit through the incessant and constantly repeating commercials. The hype was as bad as Joey and so is the show...it was way overblown and the show has fizzled. Say goodnight Gracie. [font=Comic Sans Ms][color=#FF0000]

I'm LOVIN' the show! I was never the hugest fan of any of these actors, (although I always thought they were good/funny), but I must say together their hilarious. There aren't many shows that actually make me laugh out loud these days - but this is definitely one of them! I hope NBC gives it the chance to grow like it did for the office and earl. This is good stuff. If its this funny now, imagine when it reaches full potential. Tina and Alec are gold! And this last episode was the funniest so far.
denise15722
I agree. This show deserves commitment from the network. I love that there is no laugh-track, I think the characters have depth, and the pace keeps my attention. The writing doesn't go for the obvious joke, much of the humor is unexpected and smartly written. I hope they decide to keep this on and not replace it with a reality/game show. I have NEVER watched one of those more than once, and do not understand why folks find them interesting.
denise15722
The show appeals to more than just college-aged; my husband and I are mid-50's and we like this show very much- (and really miss Arrested Development too!) We only watch 4 network shows a week: 30 Rock, the Office, Lost, and are trying out Heroes. The Daily Show and the Colbert Report are can't miss shows too. - Slim choices available otherwise- sure hope this one lasts awhile.

Perhaps I should plan Thursdays as a potluck and drinks night. Such a wonderful lineup should be shared with loved ones.
30 Rock will blossom into a true beauty!
Thank you.

I laughed myself silly during the "Blind Date" episode. Tina Fey is to the sitcom what Aaron Sorkin is to drama. And not just because they're both writing shows about writing SNL.

As a Myers-Briggs nerd, and the product manager for the Myers-Briggs for its publisher, I got a big kick out of Jack's rooting around in Kenneth's file and noting his Myers-Briggs type as "extraverted, intuitive and aggressive." Sounds to me like Kenneth (Ellen) is an ENTJ and so is Jack. "In five years we will be reporting to him or be dead by his hand", brilliant line even if it does like a "Princess Bride" rip-off.

What type is Liz though? Based on the three available episodes I would guess Liz Lemon is intraverted, intuitive, feeling, and judging. That's an INTJ for other Myers-Briggs enthusiasts. Anyone have any guesses as to the other character types? It's fun to watch characters interacting and to guess their type by their on-screen actions.

Anyone else catch the personality type reference?

The Office cast is trying to peddle this show in their blogs but I don't think it is going to help. The show just isn't that good, but best of luck to those of you who like it.

Whats the problem with the writing format?
markgpl
I guess I'm biased, but I've always had a thing for Tina Fey.

But notwithstanding the above, the on-screen chemistry between Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey alone is worth the price of admission.

I'm hoping that this show is going to enjoy a run twice as long as Ed Sullivan's show or Bonanza or Gunsmoke.

Afrer all, given the choice of looking at Hoss week after week or Tina Fey - who would you choose.

I am lovin the show too. It doesnt always make me laugh but I smile the whole time I watch it. And smiling is just as good. buty anywayz I do think SNL will never be the same but I am lovin this 30 Rock! I am like some people and just realized how much I love Tina's work!!! Keep It Up!

'Kay, you guys working some kind of ninja, voodoo thing, 'cause you both were just in my head. I'm the one with the thing for Tina, and I'm the one who doesn't always laugh but smiles all the way through "30R." Seriously, I'm so happy Peacock's moving the show where it can live a little.

This was the best episode this year. I laughed the whole time. And you know what? Tina Fey is hot and those writers shouldn't have laughed at her in that outfit (although it did look like something out of the 80's and that was pretty funny).

Just adore this show! I Tivo it and watch with friends.
Episode #3 was simply amazing! #4 didn't quite work for me.

First two eps made me laugh pretty hard for a new show, but 3 and 4 had me DYING. I love love love when the show goes in a Mary Tyler Moore/SATC-but-with-humans direction and hope it does so often.

I save the eps to show my friends; 30 Rock pasta party at my house. Even the throwaway lines are genius. I hope the new timeslot serves it well.

Tina Fey, you are my #1 hero. I ADORE YOU AND YOUR SHOW.
witchysmile
Just a note to address what, in my opinion (40, female) is and is not working at 30 Rock.

GOOD: Dualisms
1. Alec Baldwin's Dual personality
- wanton suck up and police state manager is interesting and could be stranger to good effect

2. Tina Fey's dorkiness
- a beauty with physical discomfort (not in her skin) is interesting to watch.

3. Tracy Morgan's nuttiness
- he is truly funny when spouting non sequitors and trying to manage the abnormal thoughts in normalized situations.
- he causes some discomfort with his too big personality and no filter approach

4. The Page
- the naivete should be punched with something unaccounted for (sly references, not overt, to an outlandish weekend life)

5. Superimposing Madness on Normalcy
- Sometimes it works (party on the yacht, Alec B. in the writer's room) and sometimes it doesn't (Tina in the strip club), but it's not formulaic and it is very watchable.

BAD: Character sketches

1. Rachel Dratch's underutilization
- It's a shame what the show has done with Rachel Dratch. She could be one of the dualisms here, an average woman with oddity and strange proclivities. Her talent is wasted and her ability to normalize weirdness could be a real asset to the show.

2. Jane Krakowski's q-factor
- she is talented, attractive and funny and has never gotten the acknowledgement she deserves. She is not the right kind of funny for this show. She is not likeable in the way that this odd show / show about oddities needs. This is one pivotal role that can sell the show to a younger audience.

3. The Writer's room
- there is no depth or awareness of the perfect storm of dysfunctional personalities required to build a show like TGS and the shallow depiction of the room, in a space that could be rich ground for small parts of hilarity and madness.

4. The Blonde Bimbo
- come on.

5. Product Pitches
- GE. If it weren't for Tina Fey, I would have stopped watching at the first placement.

UGLY: ("Let me tell you this, about that...") Suggestions

1. W h o r i n g It Out (To increase viewer knowledge of the show):
- Have B.J. Novak (temp from "The Office") apply for an internship
- Have SNL Alumni show up on Guest stints (Will Ferrel, Jimmy Fallon, Eddie Murphy)
- All Baldwin brothers appearing as unrelated suits, investors, cleaning staff, etc. on one show with an hook at the end (in the same room).
- Have L. Lohan types, younger set host the show and each has only 1-2 scenes (non self-promoting) and in keeping with the theme of the show (strange). Kind of like Frasier's celebrity callers or The Simpson's famous voice artists.

2. Depth
- Tina Fey has a long-suffering and invisible boyfriend, an ongoing series of blind dates (back of men's heads. only, snippets and sound bites only shown)
- A show therapist for one episode
- More machinations behind writing live shows humourously written about (lapsed lines, timelines, stress management, binges, etc.)
- Periodic staff meetings with A. Baldwin

3. General
- Rachel Dratch should be added to the writer's room as a aregular (if she wants it)
- The bit on the inter-network rivalry for the rooftop spot was interesting, because as viewers we don't know about the general scene.

I love the show, have hopes for its success and see it as strange enough to fill some of the void left when Arrested Development quit. However, I think that it has more commercial success potential (which would guarantee I get to watch it more than one year).
JamFanJosh23
I still am a little iffy about this show, but I think I will soon begin to like it once I am able to get into it on Thursdays. I saw this last episode and it reminded me of a combo of shows: Studio 60, The Office, & Arrested Development. Anyone reminded of this shows w/ 30 Rock? Can't wait for the move on Thursday...and I hope this thread isnt pointless.

I love this show!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif ! I am sad that it moved, not it is going up against GREYS AND THE OC!! sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif um hello, i think the show might now be in for more trouble because of it, maybe they should put the show before the office at 8pm and give it more of a chance!! i hope this show does ok!!! maybe NBC will read this blog and do something about the bad new time it picked!!!!!!![size=5]
swimmerbuddy90
Grey's and the OC definitely don't have the same target audiences as 30 Rock though. This is a good move. NBC is trying to build 30 Rock's following. It's now going to be on the air with a great block of shows targeted at similar audiences on NBC to keep people watching through the night. It makes total sense. Right now it has a crappy timeslot.
