I, honestly, don't think it's them. I think the set to private thing was done, cause 1, maybe the person that is a huge fan of VDO was getting too many messages from people thinking it was the real deal, or 2, he/she is trying to make it look more real. I think if any 'star' would go onto a public website, like Myspace, to create an account, they would definitely get that it would be part of publicity for them, and they would go to the creaters of MySpace and have them set a confirmation that it really is them, so they can go ahead with conversing with the public, and writing about themselves and things they want to let the public know. If a particular 'star' just really liked Myspace and wanted to only get to play on it with friends and family, then I can tell you I am certain they wouldn't use their real name, and it would be set to private, for sure.
Anyway, this is all in my humble opinion. I do have a Myspace account, which I rarely visit, and I know that I have seen the creators, or managers of the site, constantely delete accounts that are set up under their music section as a band, when it's not really the band, and acknowledge a real band, when it is. So that's what leads me to believe they would do the same for a 'star' that would want to be known on Myspace.
Ok, that's it from me.
Thanks,
Vurtgirl smile.gif

The thing that first hit me about Kathryn's profile is that the writting is so ... unprofessional ... and she doesn't even use capital letters. And the reply I got invited me to IM her on myspace (I think it's IM myspace she was refering to lol) I don't think she would do that - or have TIME to do that!
These might be small insignificant things but if makes me realize if she was going to have an myspace page that she would make it as professional as possable, so I agree with you Vurtgirl ...

But i'm still going to ask when I write to her lol! tongue.gif

You know what, those small things you are talking about, do seem quite off, especially because Kathryn or any celeb most likely would hire someone to take care of something like this, being they are strapped for time. There is no way someone they hire would make mistakes like that if they wanted to keep their job, so it definitely seems like a good tell, that, that ain't really her. (I know I would be psyched if I got a gig like that, and I would definitely not blow it with lil mistakes like that.) I just wonder what kind of person sits around creating fake accounts and pretending to be some celeb, and not only creates the account, but goes to the point of talking to people and inviting them to chat with them. I think that right there is a sign that says 'STAY AWAY', if you know what I mean. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
Vurtgirl smile.gif
You know, I also think it's quite disrespectful to do something like that to anyone. I don't care if they're a celeb or not, they are people too, and that's just way off. IMHO. I'm sure that Myspace does delete those accouts. It's been a while, but I remember a comment from Myspace saying just that. It's probably just a matter of time, cause there are so many of them out there. You probably can even report/write/question Myspace about the validity of the account??? May be worth a try if you really are hoping it's her, instead of getting involved with that person before you know. Although it may be fun messing with them too. Make them think you really believe them and act like a crazy fan. laugh.gif laugh.gif Ok, I'll stop now. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Alright gang - everyone who has a myspace go add "Kathryn" and bombard her with annoying *fan* msgs!! *evil laugh* Let's go Vurtgirl!! laugh.gif

I think i'll just ask her when I write to her and leave it at that. After talking to you all i'm practically 100% it's not her so I'm not gonna go to the trouble of reporting it to the people at Myspace.

Hey, I've got an idea, Vincent - Kathryn Fan (a regular member here) met her at the DVD signing, and even got to talk to her and take a pic with her. She wrote all about it in the thread called I met a member of CI, or something like that. So, you can ask V-K Fan to give you a question for Kathryn that only Kathryn would know, or take something she wrote off of the thread, like about her dress, and by her answer, you'll know. (Every once in a while I come up with a good idea) (It's not all air in there) laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
Vurtgirl smile.gif
P.S. As far as reporting to Myspace, I think it would be cool to just email them and ask if they actually have a way for members to know if a particular 'celeb' member is real, or if they monitor in some way. You don't really have to report anyone if you don't want to, but the info would be helpful I'm sure.
TatyGirl
That is a very good idea!! Thanks! *runs off to look for thread*

Um, vurtgirl darlin', I just hate to rain on parades, but to demonstrate just what a load of netcrap Myspace is as a bona fide celeb host, I've just become Alan Rickman, complete with a pic of Rickman. You young ladies DO know who Alan Rickman is, right? Think the villain in Die Hard, the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood. Big star, many upmarket websites, more than VDO, even.

Anyhow: It took me all of 90 seconds to complete the MySpace form, upload the celeb pic from a Vanity Fair cover story on Rickman, and get back here to report. C'mon, you guys - VDO and KE do NOT play on MySpace. A little reality, puleese. It's for kids. It's fun, I'm sure, but see well nooooooo, not for film stars who have their own websites, official or unoffical, who are not looking for friends on the net, who are mostly looking to hide out from people on the net, and whose real friends include Johnny Depp and Dick Wolf. Think private jets and limosines, and Monte Carlo and Krug champagne and bodyguards and bespoke John Lobb loafers. Do not think MySpace. sigh.gif Why do I feel so mean saying all this? Anyhow, if you ever decide to worship Alan Rickman, I'll put a word in 'his' ear to let you into his fabulous circle of fabulous friends on his fabulous new MySpace site. (Jeez, how do I ever pull that thing down?)
NoDayButToday22
interesting.. if it is that that is cool. however i have to agree with those who say it isn't because where would they find the time.. and oh did you read the blog on her myspace? it made no sense.
TatyGirl
Well I've sent a msg to myspace asking if they have a way of verifying if a celebrity who has a profile is the real deal.

I agree with you NoDayButToday22 - her blog didn't make any sense - that was one of the things that "tipped" me off as to thinking it is not her.

But like i said, i was just being curious. I really never thought this topic would get so much attention haha.
vurtgirl
Oh, no, I'm not a fool, that's exactly what I said as well, bwalter, funny girl, or boy should I say. laugh.gif Most of them are false, but, there are actually a few, and I think they are mostly bands, that do have actual, real, myspace accounts. Like I said, they are usually referenced on the official web page of the celeb/band, and most likely run by the people they hire to manage things like this.
Anyway, there's no harm in asking the people at Myspace how to tell what's official and what's not.
I'd find their answer kinda interesting actually.
Vurtgirl smile.gif
(Personally, I don't really like Myspace. I created an account there a while ago, but I rarely ever go on it after I saw what it's all about. Not really my type of thing, that's all.)

bwalter: So are you gonna keep that account now, and play Alan Rickman? I'd visit Myspace for that. laugh.gif

Ok, since this is Off Topic, I'm going to have an outburst. I am so mad at my computer right now/laptop, that I'd like to put my fist right through the screen, then take my bloody fist out and put it through the keyboard. Then, I'd like to take the whole thing and smash it into the wall a few times. Then drop it on the ground and stomp/kick it until it dies.
I'm so tired of it messing up. I've rigged it up/bandaged it up cause I have no money to buy a new one, but for the last couple days, since the new G/E ep aired, I've spent a few half hours writing reviews and having the computer decide to die not at the beginning, not at the middle, but right at the end when I'm ready to post. So forget the review, I'm not writing it again, and if you don't see me for a while, you know why.

Yes, I agree. This is definitely one of those poppy type of things that has brought down the quality of many things in this day and age. Kinda like MTV in cyberspace. It is appalling. (Please feel no disrespect to anyone who loves/likes Myspace. I guess I'm just kinda old, and I'm just not into it.)

Did anyone happen to read, on the front page of the myspace thing, where it says occupation "Kathryn" wrote that for her occupation she is a parent and a detective. Trust me, Kathryn Erbe KNOWS she is an actress and NOT a detective! Usually celebrities mention things on their sites that people don't already know also. Look at Mariska's website and Chris Meloni's site. They don't just rewrite everything we already know about them. I do not think that is her.

Yup. Even on a 30-second glance, the whole page looks like it was done by a star-struck 15 year old (or possibly an older woman with some serious issues). And granted, none of us really knows VDO, but we all have a "feel" for him - and this doesn't feel like something he would do.

You're so sweet, yeah, I needed to have an outburst. I don't usually do those anymore. I tend to have a good grip on keeping it all piled in, so that my teeth are about broken from clentching and grinding not only at night, but all through the day too. Haha. Funny, I just got one of those night guards, (well my boyfriend got it for me) you're suppose to boil it and fit it to your mouth. The pharmacist said it works good, next to getting it done profesionally by a dentist (which I don't have). So I'm going to go boil, before I become toothless. laugh.gif Hey, so do you still want to meet me now.
Run, run far away screaming I tell you. Mwaaahaahaahaahaa. Only kidding. I'm a sweetheart, most of the time anyway. It's hard to be all the time, you know. Anyway, I'd miss you guys too much to smash it, so I'll just have to bandage it some more. Maybe use duct tape this time. laugh.gif

Well no new msg from "Kathryn" and now news from Myspace yet. But I have heard back from Vincent-Kathryn fan. She gave me a few questions to ask "Kathryn" to see if it's really her. I'll just wait and see if I ever hear from her again - then i'll ask a question or two. If she never responds to my last msg then I'll leave it.

I once saw an interview with VDO on the show "the view" and they asked him about the forum and the fans and he replyed that it was a great thing that fans could decide about an episode and that NBC could also consider what fans write for new storys. But he also said that he doesn't have much time and that he doesn't often use the pc. He said that sometimes his daughter was curious about what people were writing about her Dad and that she talked about it sometimes... So I don't think that VDO has a personal message board to talk with fans....can't even imagine that..... I think he's got a lot of other things to do...... It's sad but true!!! sad.gif

LOL Well, just knowing that VDO and KE are 40 year olds makes me think they DON'T have MySpace accounts. As a 47 year old I find it more suited to younger people. My kids have accounts there and since he's turning 30 this year, my stepson has already found it much to bothersome to deal with. LOL

You're more likely to find musicians on myspace than actors, I think. Musicians have a bit more time on their hands than actors who have a lot on their plate do. After touring, there are normally a few months that they have plenty time to **** around on the net, inbetween writing songs and recording.

Na, you're definitely not the first to quote yourself, and I find it nice that you cared enough to clarify. I find it sooo funny how many words, that are not at all swearing, are blinked out by this site. I was going to go to OT and post a post, with a bunch of words to see which ones are blinked out and which aren't, like d'rn, or d'mn or something like that you know. yeah, when I was talking about VoG, I had to edit so that it read "xxx-rated" instead of the name of the industry, because that was blocked out. And of course, it's 4 letters, so people might have thought I was using an f-word, when it was a p-word that isn't even a swear word! rolleyes.gif

Yeah, I'm really surprised about the words that are automatically bleeped. But I think it's only because NBC wants the boards to be "safe" for kids of all ages to surf. You'll notice, I typically don't mind if our posters try to get around some of the expletives (like writing "d'mn," etc.). My feeling is that it's all in the context of the post. Going really off-topic here, but I guess it's okay 'cause the thread is gonna be moved to the "off-topic". I always have www.onelook.com open, it's a great dictionary search tool. I don't think "circumlocute" is a verb, but the noun "circumlocution" means ramble.

True, but then again, suicide isn't a verb you can use on its own without "commit" either, and they conjugate it often on CI! biggrin.gif

I doubt anyone would use harsh words here though...I mean...it's a sweet bunch, don't you think?

(and wordsmith is made-up! hahahaha. Fun word though)

Oh, yeah, you can pretty much make anything into a verb! It's just a matter of time for dictionaries to have definitions for them. Talk yo you later, guys, gotta "google" some stuff now wink.gif

Jordan, just remember..."this too shall pass." It's the thing I tell myself whenever I get worked up about something. It doesn't always work dry.gif , at least not right away. But it's the one thing that puts my current trouble into perspective.

Yeah, I find it useful for comic effect, but I wouldn't use my bungled verbs or made-up words for anything serious.

UGH mad.gif talk about embarrassing - buying the nits kit at the pharmacy late at night, hoping no one I knew would see me. cool.gif

Not trying to sound pompous myself <cough> <whips out Linguistics degree>, but "wordsmith" is no more made up than any other word, and the usage you gave was perfectly acceptable and appropriate. Likewise, "circumlocute" is a word, both in itself and as the correct reduction of "circumlocution" (both meaning "to talk around").

And may I say you have a lovely vocabulary, my dear! wink.gif

I was out with friends tonight. We saw the movie "Children of Men"...amazing by the way...love Clive Owen (though parts are gory like a war movie). Anyways, in one part they mentioned New York. The first thing that came to mind was Criminal Intent.

...yeah...I need help. tongue.gif

Just had to tell you all...I work at a theatre (live theatre, not movie...very improv-based shows) and our new show has a character in it who's an eccentric old lady with 8 cats. My friend Kelley plays her and upon my suggestion, she's decided to name one of the cats "Detective Bobby Goren"....it's hilarious. She only refers to this cat as "Detective Bobby Goren" in full...never just "Bobby" or "Goren". I find it so funny. Just thought I'd let you all know. smile.gif
