Um... unsure.gif ...b? So, uh, what ha'happened was that now I've kinda had to wait so long having had so much crap going on that I kinda lost interest in that line up of songs that I ha'promised. But, but INSTEAD, I offer you where we are now - which, given my obsessive ways, does still feature some of the songs from off of the original list of B's Reintroduction.., as well as other songs featured in Off Topic before. But THIS, I feel, is so much a better product (that is - if you'll just, like, play along in indulging my capriciously shifting musical ways; accepting my promise that more than a few will actually go up THIS VERY MORNING, once I finish typing and set to fighting with the Comcast storage space to finagle some room.... **-cheesy begging grin not available in the still cheap a** selection of Invision smilies-**)

B's Reintroduction to Music Appreciation (whether she likes it or not) Vol 1, Take 2

Sowing Season (Yeah) - Brand New
Jesus Christ - Brand New
Citizens of Tomorrow - Tokyo Police Club
Bleed from Within - The Music
Bound for the Floor - Local H
Wolf Like Me - TV on the Radio
Break - The Cinematics
Lazy Eye - Silversun Pickups
Starlight - Muse
The Funeral - Band of Horses
Ewan - The Radio Dept
Dashboard - Modest Mouse
Ocean Breathes Salty - Modest Mouse
Song Seven - Interpol
PDA - Interpol
Aenema - Tool (Parental Advisory)
(Seriously) (I ain't even kidding, so don't get mad at me if you don't mind the warning! still - tis a great song if you pay attention...)
Judith - A Perfect Circle
(to my fellow believer DonnaLu - no, I don't agree.. but He knows that...)

Um...For storage room issues, I'll be cheating and using a You Tube link or two or three for some songs (move away from video, raise volume, and just listen please - this ain't MTV!!) . If this proves *cough* inconvenient for anybody who gives a d, you know how to find me...

OOOOOOOOOOh! What a bloody fabulous Easter Egg to stumble over! Oh yeah, a bit late, yeah, busy, busy...Excuses, you got a thousand (;-)))))) I personally have TWO thousand. Let the games begin.
cool.gif
Okay, the verdict so far:

The Picks: Loved loved loved Funeral - listened to it three times. Also VERY taken with Modest Mouse; Ocean Breathes Salty has a rough brilliance, yeasty lyrics and engaging, jagged music. T'rrific.

The Pan: I spit in the eye of Song Seven. The garage-band one-note monotony was bad enough, but any musician that thinks the refrain "You were like a flower/Then our love turned sour" doesn't stink should be consigned to a special h#ll for the Aesthetically Unconscious.

Speaking of h#ll : I can't believe there's an anime/manga about the Second Coming. Or was it the Apocalypse? Verrrrry peculiar - like an AstroBoy version of the Apochrypha. The Christian message as art is better served up by Dead White Renaissance Guys and Gospel singers, IMO. ph34r.gif

This is funnnnn (maybe not for you, but I'm havin' a ball)! Bring on the next lot of homework.

Okay, the verdict so far:

The Picks: Loved loved loved Funeral - watched once, then listened, minus the video, twice more. Also VERY taken with Modest Mouse; was particularly taken by Ocean Breathes Salty has a rough brilliance, yeasty lyrics and engaging, jagged music. T'rrific.

The Pan: I spit in the eye of Song Seven. I coulda put up with the one-note monotony, but any band that thinks the refrain "You were like a flower/Then our love turned sour" doesn't stink should be consigned to a special **** for the Aesthetically Unconscious.

Speaking of **** : I can't believe there's an anime/manga about the Second Coming. Or was it the Apocalypse? Verrrrry peculiar - like an AstroBoy version of the Apochrypha. The Christian vision - and I think that was the message - is better served up by the Renaissance mob, IMO. ph34r.gif

HAAAAAAa!! Ocean Breathes Salty has a permanent place on my list of all times favorites, should I ever be able to settle on such a list. It did earn a special place of having its lyrics ripped as my profile statement - they were just that vaguely profound to fit actual, personal feelings...

Maaan...dogged my boys, Interpol! Have to admit, not the best lyrics on that one, but that songs ranks for me more in terms of "feel" than words - Aenema ranking on both levels; but I'm one of those creatures whose been "Sick Of" since the age of 12 laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif !!! One lyric that people might miss _toward the end_ that puts the whole song into better perspective "Don't just call me negative...try and read between the lines..." followed up by "I can't imagine why you wouldn't welcome any change, my friend...". Those three lines together (as they are), change the whole meaning of the song, for me, and bring it more toward my overall sentiment in looking at the bullsh of the world...

...but again - I'm just like that!! laugh.gif wink.gif

EDIT: Dead White Renaissance Guys... HAA HAAAAAAAAA!!! Now, I'm glad I changed it... The first list didn't have the same "depth" ph34r.gif laugh.gif

My mom told me of this woman at her work. She was complaining of back pains on Thursday so she left early to get checked out at the hospital. She's a 40 year old woman...and yesterday my mom told me the lady sent an email to everyone at work saying she's taking a few days off. Why?

.

.

.

She had a baby! ....and She didn't know it! blink.gif

This woman is what you would say is slightly on the chubby side but definitely not fat. She hasn't gained weight at all and apparently she may have thought she was going through early menopause or something. This baby is even the woman's first child...he was 6 lbs 9 ounces and perfectly healthy.

Off-topic, to be sure and no other place to put this...but since clinical depression has been discussed openly here by those who suffer from it, I wanted to post a link to this very moving statement from the family of recently departed comedian Richard Jeni - read it and weep (truly) for all those who do NOT get proper medical attention for that which ails them.

Comedian's Family Confirms Depression, Suicide

"The truth is: earlier this year Richard Jeni was diagnosed with severe clinical depression coupled with bouts of psychotic paranoia. One only needs to have a family member or friend with a mental illness to understand that there is nothing rational, predictable, or fair about these diseases. Mental illness is as serious as any physical affliction and can be just as devastating.
He was not down or blue, he was ill...Perhaps Richard's passing will encourage people to have sympathy, compassion and understanding for those who are afflicted with mental illness."

Rest in peace, Richard.

That's great to see his family being so forthcoming about the circumstances leading up to his death in order to, very clearly, honor his memory rather than acting ashamed of the pain he endured trying to live with his illness. Protecting him even in death is not a small thing for a loved one to step up to do...

RIP, Richard

I had an automatic brain flash (or perhaps you will think "brain fart") - a mental image of Vincent D'Onofrio taking over from Kiefer Sutherland on 24 as Jack "Superhero" Bauer - or taking on a role as Jack's other superhero brother on the dark side (for those who watch 24 - I do intermittently, mostly for the comedy value of seeing Jack run across Los Angeles and back, kill a few people, extract info from others with force, and generally save the Western world... all in one 42 minutes (ahem, one hour) episode). Then again, Goren would have to step up the interrogation pace, which might not work rolleyes.gif Dunno about the superhero stunts either - but would certainly watch the effort!

Do they ever just knock off an hour of the show with the guy having a pleasant lunch? Maybe using the bathroom to shave? Getting a haircut? Buying groceries? dry.gif Sometimes it's all I can do to make an eggplant parmiagiana with my afternoon and this guy's diffusing nuclear bombs.

laugh.gif I laughed out loud when I read this! Have you been talking to my DH? (he has been watching the show with me in a rather non-plussed fashion. After about 4 episodes, he came out with the statement "I guess he shaves and takes a dump behind the nuclear shelter during the commercial break. Doesn't seem like enough time, really." cool.gif

And yes, Jack is a rather dull boy. I watched the show in the first year, got fed up, then decided to check it out again this year. I paricularly enjoy his sycophantic/ordering about tone when talking to the Prez.

By all means send along the eggplant parm recipe. I could reciprocate with a recipe for moussaka or another 35 or so greek dishes calling for eggplant. None of them are as good as parm, IMO. Also, I'm told that my recipes can be hard to follow as they are full of little "old country" tips and tricks, such as "let it sit as long as it takes to go out and [milk the goats/carry the laundry down to the stream and beat it with stones/etc] and then put it in the oven, which is down the street at the neighbour's house".

My personal favourite: I have never been able to carry off my mother's recipe for yogourt. This is, I think, because the essential step is, after heating the milk, to cool it until the point where you can hold your index finger in it and count to 14 without having to take it out first. That's 14 in greek. You can see how useless this is. I even took a stopwatch to my hometown one time and TIMED my mother doing this... still can't manage. Usually, probably because I get distracted and then by the time I return to the milk could probably count to forever... but I digress.

How about a recipe thread?

Hi everybody! I know that this is probably known to all, but since there are a large number of pet owners on the board, I wanted to make sure everyone knew about the massive recall of dog and cat food in North America right now. 10 dogs and cats, all in the US thus far, have died of kidney failure and it appears related to certain foods. The food was sold under several brand names, including the house brands of Wal-Mart, Safeway, Loblaws and others, some Iams and Eukanuba items are also listed. Please check to make sure you don't feed any of the recalled items to your furry family members. I checked and found 10 packets in my pantry, I'm so thankful that I hadn't used one yet. Here is a link to the CNN story about the recall, at the end of the story they list all the names of the food involved and the serial numbers you need to look out for.

Classic Trek - Dr. McCoy. Just love that curmudgeonly old coot and was extremely sad when he passed away. The give and take between him and Spock just tickled me stupid.
STNG - toss up between Data (fully operational wink.gif ) and Picard. That was one sexy bald man! biggrin.gif Totally cracked me up when Patrick Stewart showed up on Extras last season and played so completely against type as a vain, self-centered loony tune.
DS9 - Odo, just because

This could probably fit into the current recipe thread but I figured there was info about the pet food problem here and well... My greyhound loves this stuff called Frosty Paws. It's a frozen pet treat that you can find in the frozen food aisle at the grocery store. It's kind of expensive and this is a knock off recipe I received via the rescued racers newsletter HE gets. Honestly, the newsletter is addressed to the family of Mike. dry.gif We read it together. wink.gif

Faux Frosty Paws
1 32 ounce container yogurt, plain or vanilla
1 really ripe banana, mashed (you can use a large jar of mashed baby food bananas instead)
2 Tbs. peanut butter
2 Tbs. honey

Mix together and distribute into bathroom sized Dixie cups or other smallish containers of about that size. Freeze. That's it.

Great fun watching him pick the cup up to take it to his favored licky place. Greater fun watching him realize the thing is frozen to his tongue like Flick licking the flag pole in "A Christmas Story".

Morning Linda,

Our shepherd dog also have a favorite licky/munchy place. He gets his treat, trots off, flops on his bed and crunch, crunch. Done! smile.gif

I have just one caution about your recipe. Many dogs are allergic to peanuts, so I'd be careful or watchful when introducing them to your pet.
