If you would like to see this cast change, add your reply. If you like things the way they are, rather than sniping at this petition, begin a petition to keep things they way they are. Then the network bigwigs can really gauge the situation.

I'm sure she is a nice girl and all but she is just awful in the show.

I understand Dick Wolf's reasoning in wanting to bring in a tough, attractive woman to play the role of the junior detective, but Goivch is just not convincing in that role. She distracts from the story and HAS to go if they want the show to survive. I would not mind if Farina returned, but I also would like to see them cast another actress who is better suited for the role...Connie Nielsen from SVU comes to mind.

I agree. The new partner can't carry the show. She definitely doesn't measure up (in ANY way) to any of the major detectives on this show's long, great history. If they don't bring Farina back, they need someone WAY better than Govich. If not, this will definitely be the demise of the show.

I agree. Govich just brings the show down. If you have to have eye candy just get someone who can act.

I don't think most of those posting have a problem with the eye candy part, it's just Govich is not believable. Her acting is really bad. I don't know why. Maybe she is better on stage but on this she just stinks up the entire show. The writing is not the greatest this season either but it's the same writing Jesse, Epatha, Sam and Fred have to deal with but they are doing a whole lot better with it.

It's not a question of either a good actress or eye candy. I think both can be in the same actress but Govich isn't it. In the acting department anyway. Check with the guys on the looks thing.

At this point I would vote to have Lance Bass, Paris Hilton, Donald Rumsfeld, Rosie O'Donnell, Tommy Lee, Jenna Jamison, Richard Simmons, Michael Jackson, Kato Kaelin or even Paul Ruebens replace Govich. They can't do any worse that Govich. ,

Oh yeah! I can see Richard Simmons and Jesse L. Martin making an awesome detective team!

Govich is akward and unbelievable in the Nina Cassady role. There is no chemistry and little rapport between Cassady and Green. She even makes Jesse's acting look worse. I didn't especially car for Farina's character role but at least he is an excellent actor. Govich has got to go.

Definitely think they should get rid of Govich - I thought she was awful in the other NBC show she was in - how did she ever get in??? She may be a great dancer - & have a good singing voice - but she cannot act - I think Dick Wolf has a death wish for the show!!!!!! Feel sorry for the other cast members. I happened to like Dennis Farina - but if he had to be replaced I would have liked a male detective - this show is now just like the other Law & Orders - not "special"

Hey, the others ARE special. Each one has their own "thing". That said, I'm not a big fan of Govich either. I would rather see Jesse paired with a male detective as well. Of course, Govich's "attractiveness" isn't just reserved for men *cough cough*, but I digress....I don't think I want Farina back though. *rubs chin* I wish I could see Jesse and Noth paired up together, but Logan's on CI (and I love him there). Lance Bass would actually be an interesting person to watch, but I don't think he could pull it off.

The quote you quoted was in reference to having a man and a woman detective team. Betty48 was pointing out that L&O's all male team made it unique from the others, but now it has conformed to some sort of affirmative action for female detective roles that Wolf has imposed upon his shows.

Heck...I'll sign that petition as well. She just is not cutting it. I know it's hard to replace Jerry Orbach...but lets face it, we were all getting used to Dennis being there.

I was first bummed when Jerry Orbach got moved to the new show which I guess is gone already. But when Dennis Farina was brought in I wasnt bummed any longer and now hes gone already and for that girl who is terrible. Bring Dennis Farina Back. I have stopped watching the show as its not very good anymore. If Dennis is brought back I will watch it again but for now its TNT reruns

Oh one more thing just because theres not many posts here doesnt mean there arent a lot more people who feel Farina need be back most people keep their feelings in and dont even know about this board. Does anyone know why Farina was replaced?

WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO MAKE THE "BIG WIGS" at L&O take notice? We have a large number of people asking for Dennis Farina to be brought back, and for each person responding, it represents approximately 100,000.00 television viewers wanting the same thing. I can't stand this new gal, Melena Govich, and I resent the constant revolving door changes they do on these shows - all the L&O shows. When you have something that works, you don't change it. Law & Order is right up there with MASH as far as loyal fans, and Dick is ruining a good thing. ARE YOU DEAF, DICK? THE PEOPLE ARE SPEAKING. PLEASE, PLEASE, BRING BACK FARINA!!!!

you see green needs someone to play off of and govich is not macho enough like for instance - the lieutenant or mariska hargitay or annabella sciorra (now there's another option). govish does not have the aggressive, assertive force of a Law and Order female force and I do wish she would not continue, but here's another scenario -- Jesse Martin partnering with Chris Noth.

I agree completely. Since the days of Michael Moriarity and I have been a fan this long this is the worst change to the cast that I have seen. Dennis was right up there with Logan and Lenny!

Even if Farina dumped L&O he should at least do an episode that shows him in in it. Like even if its 5-10 minutes of an episode. Govich needs to leave the cast shes bringing down the whole show. And if Farina doesn't want the show he starred in to go downhill [thanks to Govich]he should at least try and prosuade people to get rid of Govich.

I neither like nor dislike Govich on the show. She's just a non-entity for me. I do like that Ed is finally the senior partner, though. It's his time to shine, so to speak. I do agree that she just doesn't fit in well, but I'm not sure if it's the actress or the character that I don't like. Well, to be honest, as much as I like Dennis Farina in other roles, I didn't care that much for his Fontana. He wasn't bad, but I didn't love him. Maybe he just had the misfortune of following my beloved Lenny. Who really could ever replace him? Anyway, I think Beck (Connie Nielsen) from SVU would be GREAT teamed up with Ed. Good suggestion! I also wouldn't mind seeing Benjamin Bratt back in the house. I think the two of them could really bring some creative tension to the show. They could be butting heads one week and kicking butt the next! Of course, Munch from SVU would also be great and since they're not giving him anything to do over there.... Anyway, there's my 2 cents. And I'd love to see Alex back as McCoy's assistant. Since she's out of witness protection and all. But I guess that's for another board or topic. Sorry.

I agree bring back Dennis Farina or cast Chris North back in the role and delete Govich. This actress can't act and the attire for this detective is wrong and not professional stick to the concept of the show,and the show is not about a low cut revealing breast detective. I have always like the concept of the olde detective with the young detective it worked as it did with Dennis Farina. I have tried to watch the show but I can't I just can't bear watching Govich her acting is horrible!!

I'm not a message board joiner, but I found this site because I am so dismayed at this year's changes. I am a L&O addict (the original show only) - I watch the reruns constantly on TNT, have been glued to the TV every Wednesday night, and I sobbed when Jerry Orbach died. But I cannot watch the shows this season - I think they are terrible. The two new women that they have casted as the ADA and the sidekick to Jessie L. Martin are horrendous, and create absolutely no dynamic for the show. I can't stand to watch it anymore, so I don't. I so hope they will drop Govich AND De La Garza and recast with the appropriate actors with talent to create the necessary dynamic that's needed. In the case of the detectives, they need an older man like Orbach or Farina - someone with the dry humor and experience to offset the youthfulness of Martin. Which is how it has been played since the show began. As for the DAs, with the exception of the first year or two, the ADA has always been a woman - for which I'm very glad. Hennessy & Harmon were ok, wasn't crazy about Rohm, and I loved Carey Lowell and Annie Parisse who both left way too early for my taste. Ah, well. Okay, I've stated my opinion - and many others by the looks of this thread. Sure hope TPTB take a look-see over here...

Oh I so very much agree with you that we can't have Jerry back. My hubby and I often talk about how they could possibly bring his character back in as a ghost cop of some sort but it would have to be computer done and something would be lost. We were thinking along the lines that Charmed did with the girls' grandmother and mother. That was another thing too we couldn't figure out other than Shannon Dougherty being kicked off the show was why they didn't bring Prue back? It took me a bit to like Fontana too but this gal just doesn't do anything for me. I'm not happy with the new time slot either.

I definitely agree--Bringo D. Farina back, but I would be amazed if it happened! I really enjoyed the Fontana character in Law and Order. It was a good cast mix for the viewers.
