I am thinking about volunteering, but I'd need help, so I'm only going to do this if someone else volunteers too. Maybe SOJ? Sev? Paidtowatch? What do you guys think? If I volunteer I am definitely saying I would only do it if someone else was made a mod with me. And I've been a mod at another Conan board, so I can tell the admin that I will help you guys out since you've never been mods before. (I think they want people who've been mods, but they may make exceptions since I don't think many people will be "applying".)

Mods would have these responsibilities: "starting conversation relevant to the show/actors/characters, deleting offensive posts that violate our terms of service/board rules, merging posts/topics with similar subject matter, reporting repeat offenders to [the admin] for account suspension, and being a friendly resource to other users on the boards."

The only reason I really want to do this is to keep out the spam and trolls and merge topics. And I don't really start topics, and I don't think I would as a mod, mainly because I think that's taken care of by enough other people usually.

I'll do it with you, LNG. I don't know much about the mod-level of using the boards, but I could probably figure it out.

That would be cool. My only concern is that it says they're looking for people who've been mods elsewhere, but no one else who posts here has (that I'm aware of). I will explain to the admin that I'm not doing it alone, and I will show the others the ropes (after all it's not terribly difficult.) I think it would be cool if a few of us expressed interest in this, because we do all have lives outside of the internet (har har har), and being a mod at a place like this is a lot of work for just 1 or even 2 people. It's definitely a lot to keep up with, so I think the more mods, the better. However I'm not an admin, so sadly I have no control over who becomes a mod.

Maybe we'll finally get rid of those horrible people who write about downloading stuff and post questionable material.

I'm going to PM her and say that there is someone who has experiance in moderating but doesn't want to do it alone so hopefully that'll help. Maybe if I tell her flat out that we'd like to have more than one mod they'll give it to us. It's not like we're getting paid!

Maybe they'd make an exception with you. That rule about living in the US doesn't make sense anyway. It's the internet, which is worldwide, so why does it matter where you live? I think you have the most posts on this board, and you'd be a perfect mod. Keep in mind that the hornymanatee.com rules said you had to be a US resident to submit stuff, which you're not, and your video still made it on the show. No rules are actually carried out in the world of Conan.

Although as mods, we may have to tone down the language/possibly offensive material, maybe because it wouldn't be setting a good example - or some nonsense like that - which would flat out suck.

Moderating a forum board is a simple task. You just need to monitor every single post and most often a board with a sizeable membership appoints several mods and assigns them each their own section to over see. It is really quite an enjoyable time.

Reading through these posts, I'm saddened that I've gotten so out of the loop. I loved being involved in CoB.net and such. Doing things with websites and comedy, esp. LNwCOB, is much more related to what I really want to do in life than what actually takes up my time: my wonderful job as a tax secretary.

Does anyone know how much time they expect moderators to put in? I could put in probobly an hour or so per day. But maybe they are looking for people who could check in throughout the day. I would only be able to come on in the evening.

Abby, you totally should PM the admin about it. I got a PM saying she wanted to talk to me and Sev on the phone about being mods, but she hasn't called us yet. As far as amount of time they want mods to put in, nothing was specified, but checking in once at least every day or two would be fine, I'd imagine. All the new posts are a lot to keep up with, even for 2 people, which is why I think there should be at least 2 mods... and 3 would be even better.

I'll apply and see what happens! Yes, I would definitely love the job of being in charge of LN tickets, particularly making an organized 'black & white' system of ordering them. I was sooooo frustrated with the system when I was trying to reserve tickets last spring. It was horribly confusing. I think there should be one link on NBC.com for tickets to shows at Rockefeller Center and every show should have the same reservation system. I know that SNL has some sort of lottery system, but I've always hated that. I think the SNL audience should be filled with nothing but fans and said fans should be able to reserve tickets, however difficult they may be to get. I hate the fact that most of the SNL audience is made up of network VIP's. They don't even get the jokes half the time!! But I digress.... yes, that would be a dream job for me, LNG! If you ever get hired at ol' Rock Center, be sure to put in a good word for me!

I know, their current "system" is such a pain in the @ss. And Sev called everyday for like 2 months straight to get a ticket for Thanksgiving and missed the 1 day they booked that show, which is totally unfair. They're in desperate need of organization and innovation in ticket booking, and I think we're the right people for the job.

I'm STILL calling everyday trying to get tickets for Feb. It's such a pain in my @$$! The internet never has anything, and I have yet to actually speak to a ticket agent because they seem to book tickets for like three random days and then shut it down for three weeks. What exactly do those ticket agents do all day if not accept my reservations for tickets, I ask you?

I keed, I keed. I think I make LA out to be worse than it really is because I base all my opinions of it on the post-apocyptic sci-fi movies I saw as a kid. That, and when I was about 7 or 8 they had this really bad series of quakes out there, and everyone from California moved to my little town. We went from something like 15,000 to 200,000 people in something like 5 years. I didn't like any of those d.amn people and therefore, I do not like LA. Even though my screenwriting professor told me today that I have to go to LA, I kind of want to just be like Stephen King. You know, living with a bunch of malformed weirdos in the forest somewhere. I'm not doing a good job of keeping my mouth shut, am I?

Would you believe that I am so anti-LA I've actually considered just forgetting about writing as a career? That's how much I hate the place. And I'm such a hypocrite because I've never been there! I don't know what it's like, all I have are a handful (ok, encyclopedia-length volume) of bad experiances with stuck up barbie doll wannabes and some movies that show LA in a bad light. Not exactly the best way to form an opinion of a place, I know. And not fair, either.
The only thing that I have that keeps me here besides my utter hatred of LA is my knowledge that I'm honestly too d.amn old to break into the business.
