YES, Greenleo was definitely the BEST AMC couple ever. Well, actually to me they are the best couple, PERIOD...
Two things...first after the awkward Max/Mimi kissage, the Mabby petition went crazy! There are 260 signatures all saying that Mabby is the real deal, NOT Max/Mimi...
and secondly,

"(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- The return of the super couple, once considered dated and clich?d, has made a big return to the show.
2006 is coming to an end, and what a rollercoaster year it?s been for DAYS fans! But instead of just listing the year?s best and worst of the show, I thought I would write about how super couples have returned and are poised to be the focus for 2007.
DAYS is known around the Internet as ?the super couple soap,? and for good reason. From Doug and Julie in the 70s to the 80s powerhouses that were Marlena and Roman, Shane and Kim, Justin and Adrienne, and Bo and Hope (who are still going strong after over twenty years together), two people in love who faced extraordinary obstacles and mega-villains to be together drove storylines and made huge stars out of their portrayers. After a brief period in the 90s that gave us Austin and Carrie, John and Isabella, and Bo and Carly, super couples eventually became pass? and uncool. More focus was placed on individuals, especially villains such as Vivian and Lawrence Alamain, and Sami Brady, the wild child of Roman and Marlena. Many fans wanted to see baddies wreak havoc, instead of super couples yet again have their love tested. As the millennium settled in, DAYS still believed in their destined couples, with Brady Black and Chloe Lane as the standout, but it just wasn?t the same anymore.
Fast forward to the end of 2006. DAYS has a new head writer in Hogan Sheffer, who promised big changes for the 42 year-old daytime drama, and along with a return to less gimmicky storytelling, is the resurgence of super couples facing obstacles to be together. But this time, it?s not uncool. Three main couples are all connected by one story in a nod to history.
John and Marlena, Bo and Hope, and Steve and Kayla, arguably some of the most popular and beloved super couples the show ever had, are embroiled in an umbrella plot featuring evil E.J. Wells. And how exactly is it a nod to history? E.J. was recently revealed as Elvis DiMera, the demon seed of ultra villain Stefano DiMera, a man that has haunted Salemites for over twenty years. Little Elvis is ready to take over the DiMera crown like no one before him. John, Marlena, Bo, Hope, and Steve and Kayla have all faced his wrath, and will more than likely continue to as 2007 ushers in. Sheffer and his writers are smart to use these couples together facing one big obstacle. It makes for more compelling, less contrived drama.
On the outside looking in are six younger characters ready to step up and be super couples for a new generation of soap fans. First, let?s discuss Shawn Brady and Belle Black.
While these two are technically considered a super couple by soap standards, they have yet to really make their mark, probably because at the time these two got together, they were teenagers and not facing mature, exciting dramas like the super couples of the 80s and early 90s. But thanks to better writing and Brandon Beemer and Martha Madison?s competent acting, Shawn and Belle are on the verge to take their place next to the super couples of old. Instead of worrying about purity rings and high school dances, they are facing the biggest threat yet to their relationship---losing their daughter to the powerful, vengeful Victor Kirakis, and his son Philip. What makes this even more interesting is Victor is Shawn?s grandson, and Belle?s ex-father-in-law. Family conflicts make for more emotional storytelling when it comes to hindering a romance, and I?m glad the writers are realizing this.
Second, are Lucas Roberts and Sami Brady. While never married, these two are the Cord Roberts and Tina Lord of DAYS. They can?t live with each other or without each other, and even when they can?t stand each other, they know they are meant to be. Any couple that can reunite and let bygones be bygones after having schemed and manipulated against each other deserves super couple status. What is intriguing about these two is that aside from Lucas? mother Kate, and now EJ, outside forces haven?t tried to keep these two apart, it?s been their own stubbornness and unwillingness to admit deep down they do love each other.
Now onto Max Brady and Abby Deveraux. While not together yet, a big romance is in the works between the race car driver/mechanic and the impressionable college student. Its classic soap opera---Max is a little older, worldlier, and knows what he wants in a girl, while Abby is an innocent young woman trying to find her place in the world. Abby is infatuated with Max, who only thinks of her as a friend. It?s realistic, and again, another nice nod to history, as Abby is the daughter of Jack and Jennifer Horton Deveraux, a late 80s super couple who enjoyed a legendary romance. Abby?s mother Jennifer fell in love with Jack, a man who by all standards wasn?t her type, but true love prevailed. Will the same happen for Max and Abby? Only time---and the writers? pens will tell. Whether you?re a fan of super couples or not, you can?t deny the impact they have made on DAYS, and after many months where it seemed nobody was going to be happy, it?s time for love and romance to shine on the hourglass once again. Here?s wishing you a Happy New Year!
