SpiNNeR...
I've never seen anything like this before in my life, and i've run message boards for years!

Why do people (mods i assume) keep moving threads -

a: into inaproprate threads? (meaning specifically moving discussions about past episodes into spoiler threads)

and b: Most importantly, without leaving a link in the original! Its just deleted!

How is anyone suposed to follow the forum if threads just randomly dissapear?

Why not do whats done everywhere else and talk to the original poster, and if THEY deem it appropriate (its thier post after all, remember free speech?) then cap the thread and link as appropriate.

Simple.

You wouldn't like if someone started randomly deleting your emails and juggling them around your inbox folders would you? biggrin.gif

Its such a great show and thee are so many good fun people on the forum, so why not make it a fun place to be too!

The funniest part is that we already have a couple of "Disappearing Thread" threads, that this will probably be moved to before lunchtime.

You're doing a great job, KitKat. Thanks for all your hard work.
SpiNNeR...
I'm not against merging them, but three times i have posted about episodes AFTER they have been shown and all three got moved to the spoilers thread!!!

However, merging is certainly necessary, however deleting the origional threads is inexcusable! Merge yes, but you have to leave the origional threads there too or its completely pointless and you might as well just delete em altogether and make it an "only mods can start threads" site.

SpiNNer- Leave the Mods alone. They do a great job. I understand your resoning, but maybe you should PM them personally and ask them about it? huh.gif And not only Mods start threads... Their theads are just the most popular.

1. As a former mod here let me tell you that these forums do not have a feature that allow us to both merge your ill planned thread and keep it open as its own thread ... you would need two of your threads for that to happen ('cause if you move something, it isn't going to be in it's original location anymore, is it?)

2. Do you live on the west coast? Because that is the only way your thread will not be moved to the Spoilers thread right after you've seen the episode (rotation of the earth and all that, not everyone in the US sees the episode at the exact same moment)

I fought the heck out of this battle not too long ago, brotha.

One way of not having your posts moved is to post only within a thread created by a moderator or by one of his/her "chosen people"...talk about what they want to talk about. The prattle is spamalicious!

I refer you to: Why move posts around?.

Meh. Mebbe you'll get somewhere. smile.gif

P.S. For the love of all that is holy, will ADA please . . .

But this website is owned by NBC. They get to choose what is shown on their website. You don't have free speech here, you have selected speech.

That's different. Your e-mail inbox is owned by you. These boards are owned by NBC.
ChimpBeggin4Life
Well if everyone would search and post their responses in designated areas, nothing would be deleted.

Maybe I'm alone, but I personally don't want 12 people posting threads going "WHAT SONG WAS?" or "DID ANYONE NOTICE?" or "GUESS WHERE RAINN IS GOING TO BE TONIGHT!" And, as someone already pointed out, this is like the fourth disappearing threads topic.

I'd just like to state for the record that the opposite has happened to me. More than once, while out doing the grocery shopping, or even sleeping peacefully in my bed, I have had new threads created in my name. I'm not sure how I've pulled this off, but it's just awesome. biggrin.gif

Mixed you work your magic on the board without even being online wink.gif that is a gift unto itself tongue.gif

p.s. Did you know you created the Santa "good or bad" thread? If you tell me you are Santa, I will email you my wish list

Between exams and trying to work bad grades up at school, I have had very little time for the boards. I am back for today/tonight, but will be gone until tuesday at the earliest (we are going to our other house for christmas and it doesn't have internet)

What would be the point of merging a thread if the original was left also? That would be redundant.

Aha! Two things I already knew about you are proven.

A. You couldn't be getting good grades because you spent too much time on the board.
B. You are spoiled. Two houses? Pffffft!!!!

I was just about to say the same thing... because that's one of the netiquette rules, is that east coasters/midwesterners/people on central time please don't post anything about that night's eip until after it shows on the west coast (but also, people on west coast try to steer clear until after you've seen it if you don't want any spoilers). so... yeah.

The real question is: Why do some threads keep reappearing for no apparent reason? Hmmm...do we have ghosties? blink.gif

1 - this must be a unique and very poorly written forum then, since i've never seen or written one that deleted merged threads, its not just ill thought out, its plain old fashioned stupid! Dont worry, i understand in that case that the mods cant help it, but you would think NBC would be able to afford a proper forum! LOL!

Also, that doesn't help with point

2 - All you had to do was click my profile to see i'm not on the west coast, i'm in the UK. I see the shows weeks after you so that makes it all the more stupid that the thread got merged. Explain that!

LOL - thats so ridiculas it has to be a joke biggrin.gif

I assume you're being sarcastic, and you are right. There is simply no point whatsomever in merging a thread if you DONT leave the origional, since there is no way for people who were following it to know where it went, or those in the thread it was merged with to know where it came from!

It works on nearly every other forum on the internet, so whats so different here?

wink.gif

(Edit - remember this is pointing out a fault with NBC's choice of forum design and not with the Mods..)

Apparently they can't afford a proper search engine either. rolleyes.gif (Try searching for "Pam", "Jim", or "Roy".)

One thought on the whole to merge or not to merge controversy; personally I've never had much trouble noticing pretty quickly when and where a new thread's been merged, and I'm guessing it's partially because on most visits I'm on for awhile, and I refresh my browser many times to see what's moved to the top. But if something's been merged after I log off, I very well might miss it, especially since it could have moved way down the list and onto the next page by the time I'm back. This might partially explain why some people see merging threads as a bigger problem than others.
Anyway . . . hurray! last day of work. Happy New Year!

Last week I posted a note that Angela Kinsey is going to be on Monk 7.27.07. It was immediately moved to the end of a long thread called "Other Appearances By Office Cast Members" (or something like that).

I disagree with this, because my subject line was "Angela Kinsey is going to be on Monk 7.27.07" - it was clear and simple, and at the top of the posting list. When it was moved to the long thread, people are going to miss it for sure. That long thread is about both past and future appearances. Hence my subject should have stayed there, at least for a few days.

Such rigid merging rules and the resulting complaints will be moot points in the next week or so as we will be able to create sub-forums for such things in the near future. Please bear with us...

Just wondering were all the funtivities and off topic threads went?! Where is The Flan Below Me, my off topic Carnivale thread, off topic venting, movie and book discussions blink.gif?! I mean, I love those threads, and now they are gone! I like discussing the show with fellow fans but it's also nice to talk to everyone cause people on these boards are so nice.
Officionada
The Flan Below Me - all other games are in the Office Olympics forum

Off Topic-Carnivāle HBO - all other OT and Entertainment threads are in the OT: Shenanigans, Foolishness, Nerf-ball forum

See Important - About the Board Re-Org for more info about the new organization. smile.gif
Carnivale_HBO
Thanks Officionada, but those pages don't work. Is it just my computer or something, or is everyone experiencing the same problem? May I ask why the board structure was changed? I mean, I understand that people wanted it to be more organized, but it's kinda screwing me up and it's gonna take a while to get used to.

Edit: Ok, just re-checked it and the link to Office Olympics and OT:Shenanigans,... worked but not the links to the threads themselves.

It should work now - the Funtivities forum was accidentaly made invisible by the click of a mouse. Sorry about that. smile.gif

From what I can tell, the threads are hidden by the mods until just before the episode airs, then they are pinned so you can see them.

HCT what threads are you looking for?

Season 3 episode threads have been missing from the big move and are at the bottom of the Lost & Found list we have presented to TPTB Tech people.

That was it. I wanted to re-read some of the season 3 ep threads ... like Beach Games and Women's Appreciation, etc. At least I know they are missing, and I am just not "challenged" when it comes to finding threads.

So, they are at the bottom of the list? sad.gif

Yeah, if the techie people hadn't broken the boards brain this summer, they would have pulled out a backup and reinstated the original Season 3 forum we created. Alas, with all the people that still can't log in, this item is low on their priority list. sad.gif
