Ok guys I'm starting this thread so that we can get to know each other. Leave the Law and Order and the door! I especially hope that those of you who have differences regarding the cast or the ratings or whatever else, will be able to find a subject that you can agree on and hopefully make friends! Y'all can talk about anything you want ... Harry Potter ... Movies ... Vacations to Europe ... Ice cream flavors ... etc.etc.!!
Ps. If you guys find a way to bicker in here, I'm going to lose all hope in this board!

ADAMaloney...what a nice thing to do! Seems fitting right before the holidays, but can we do this on these message boards? I am only asking because I am still relatively new to this message board thing. I guess I'll start:
Favorite Ice Cream flavors are - Mint Chocolate Chip, and Neapolitan Ice Cream. Butter Pecan, and Rocky Road are a close second. Well, that was a tough call!

We most definitely can have an Off Topic thread!! CI has had one for a little bit now and over in The Office they have like seven!
I love Mint Chocolate Chip. For my birthday in December I am going to get a Baskin Robbins cake, chocolate cake with mint chocolate chip ice cream.

I have noticed in the past 15 or so years that the writers of L&O have used the name "Dworkin" for both characters and references more often than one would imagine. It is an unusual name and I was wondering if anyone knows why that particular name is used. Coincidentally there was a character on SVU last night named "Geneva Dworkin." My interest is purely personal - Dworkin is my last name. Any info would be welcome!

My wife really liked this necklace. She first saw it on Jessica Rossi, and most recently on Connie Rubirosa.
It's ruby (or ruby-colored), but otherwise looks like this:

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

This character wears a lot of jewelry in this same style. Some jewerly designer is obviously providing it for the show, and certainly someone must know who. Are there any links to who does costuming for Law and Order?

Yep, as ADA Maloney said, we have a thread like this in the CI forum, and it really has helped us organize the board. Just started one in SVU as well. Often times we want to just talk to each other or have questions that don't relate specifically to L&O. Please put those posts into this thread. I will be going through the board over the next few days to snag posts that really don't fit anywhere else and drop them in here (some are above this post now).
Don't be shy - PM me with suggestions on which topics to merge and which should be split into their own threads. Our goal is to have a fun, friendly board (well, we already have that!
) that is easy to navigate and search.
Thanks, everybody - you make it a pleasure to mod here.

I have been re-reading some classics/books that I haven't read since college this winter. Took out Much Ado About Nothing today. I was waiting for a friend flipped through the thing. On the back cover there is a picture of Sam Waterston when he played the role in 1972. Cracked me up, the only glaring difference in his look is that his hair is now white/grey and his choice in neckties has greatly improved. Hope I age like that.
Friend just sent a picture of Sam W. with the pig from the Sesame Street show. Does anyone know when he was on it? Looks like he dressed as Jack McCoy, has the blue shirt, tie and ring.

Anna Nicole Smith was rushed to a hospital in Hollywood Florida. She collapsed at the Hard Rock in Hollywood and EMS had to intubate her (put in a breathing tube) in the field and did do CPR. She was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Did anyone see her interviewed on ET or Insider or whatever. I saw a commercial. She was slurring her words and her eyes were half closed. Not sure what she was on but she had a few too many. What a waste.
This is going to get ugly.

I read about Anna Nicole Smith on the internet tonight before leaving work. The article didn't have much information. I feel sad for her baby and family. She had so much heartache in her life this year. I hope the baby is not used as a pawn or exploited in anyway.
I missed the show, but a friend told me she saw Sam Waterston on Hardball February 6th promoting a new political party for the 2008 presidental election. I read the interview and saw a clip in which Sam Waterston talks about Unity08 and read the information on the Unity08 website. Provokes some thought though I don't know enough about it to comment on specifics. I do have one question. Why must it be one Democrat and one Republican? Why not an Independent, a Libertarian or someone from the Green Party? If he and the founders want to "shake things up" why not open it to all. Well, maybe not all, I don't want the clerk from Walmart who can't count out the correct change after punching in the wrong amount in the computer. I can just imagine what the national debt would look like then.
I shall ask again a question asked earlier, does anyone know when Sam Waterston was on television with the pig from the Sesame Street show. In the picture that was sent to me he is wearing the blue shirt, tie and ring and he is wearing a cooking apron. The pig is next to him.

Hi SamRules, here is the answer to your question about Sam and Miss Piggy, a little late, but I didn't see it until now! A few years ago there was a charity cookbook published to raise money for Meals on Wheels, and a couple other charities which escape me.

Miss Piggy, the Muppet Show character, was the "editor" and several film and television stars contributed recipies. Sam was one of them, he contributed his son's omlette recipie. Other contributers included Barbara Bush and Whoopi Goldberg. I just moved, so the book is downstairs in a box, and I can't for the life of me remember the exact title, but I'll find it. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. It's no wonder I didn't see it. I always skip the cookbook section at the bookstore. I don't cook. I detest cooking. I eat my veggies raw or steamed and stir-fry my tofu and egg whites in terriyaki or soy sauce. That is about as close as I get to cooking. The sushi I get at a Japanese restaurant.
I would like the name of it if you find it though. My brother is a chef and it would be a good gift for him.
Just noticed the question on the necklace. That would be easy to make yourself. You can purchase gems and gemstones online and get the silver chain at the jewelry store. The jewelry store may also be able to create the necklace from the picture if you don't want to do it yourself.

Good morning SamRules. After I read your post

I was amazed at your willpower. Hate cooking or not, you eat healthy things. When I don't feel like cooking I have a Venti Green Tea Frappuccino from Starbucks and a Roast Beef sandwich from Arby's! I must really try to do better.(Well, not Starbucks, nothing'll stop that.) I will find the book asap. I have plumbers in my basement tearing up the floor even as we speak, and they are between the boxes of books, and me! I'll find it tho.

Thanks for looking for the name of the book when you have time. I don't think this counts as cooking but I do make smoothies most every night. Throw some strawberries, wild Maine blueberries, small banana, Stonyfield Farm yogurt and some soy milk into the blender. I can get the Japanese lunchboxes at a decent price from a restaurant near my office when I am at my office during lunch. Usually get the terriyaki tofu and sake maki.
No more coffee for me. I detoxed from it on August 29, 2003. (not that I am counting the days) Doctor said no more. I am still looking for a coffee annonymous group for some support. I used to like the French vanilla Coolatta's at DD. Had one here that would make it with soy milk for me.

No problem, SamRules. The plumbers assure me that we're looking at two more days, maximum.

Yeah, I love smoothies too, frozen yoghurt, peaches and raspberries with a bit of maple syrup for me. I make one for watching L&O, have been doing that for oh, seventeen years or so.

I'm Canadian (uh, no kidding) so I drink loads of tea. Green tea, black tea, white tea, whatever, rather than lots of coffee.

I appreciate you doing this. I use no fat Stonyfield Farm french vanilla. Maple syrup would make it too sweet for me. I don't care for sweet, sugary foods. I used to drink green tea but my doctor too that from me too. I have my smoothies, soy milk and water. L&O is on too late for my smoothie. I usually have this for dinner around seven or eight. I am totally into natural foods. I try not to eat processed or created foods. I feel healthier when I eat well.
I was partially raised by Canadian grandparents in addition to time spent with "hippie" parents and extended "hippie" family members. What a freaky generation that was. My cousin, sibs and I were the first born here on that side of the family. For years I thought Queen Elizabeth was the leader of the country. My grandmother had her picture up in the house. I just took a test on accents and the results showed I am often mistaken for Canadian even though I grew up outside of Boston. I think I have no Boston accent. My Massachusetts/Irish side of the family sounds foreign to me though they say I am the one with the accent. Sometimes I cannot understand what they are saying.

Hi SamRules, well I can get into my basement now, and I've started opening boxes-I found two sets of L&O dvds, a clue perhaps? Now I see the book boxes. Your brother might get a kick out of it, I got another copy for my Mom who is a chef also, and she liked it. She reminded me that Sam has done segments on tv with Miss Piggy, it was to teach kids about how to choose healthy foods, and kitchen safety, one of the reasons I admire Sam is his commitment to children.

You are right about food, I run into Arby's (up here, it meets gov. standards for good food choices, I don't know if it is different in the US)or Starbucks but I never use processed convenience food at home, and I either use the fruits and veggies I grow organically, or get them from the farmer's market.

It's been a while since L&O tacked food safety, I'd like to see them do that topic again. As I type, my portrait of Queen Elizabeth is looking down upon me, it was funny you mentioned the one in your grandmother's. Are you a dual citizen? It sounds like you had a neat childhood. I was an only child, a single mom, and liked to read about kibbutzes and communal farms when I was younger since I thought it would be neat to grow up on one! Back to the search...

Kitchen safety? I should watch that segment. I seem to injure myself everytime I do make an attempt to cook. I have a few scars from attempts to open cans and use of sharp knives. Once I sliced off the tip of my thumb. I have a few cuts on my fingers now from slicing veggies. I purchase most of my veggies from a fruit and veggie store. I don't care for the produce at supermarkets.
I am the world's pickiest eater. I had to have a procedure once that required eating scrambled eggs with radiation. Told the doctor I could only eat the egg whites and they would have to make it that way. Told me no I could have that or the fake eggs. I then told him not a chance I wasn't eating those with all the chemicals in it. He finally leaned over to me and said, "you are worried about egg yolks and chemicals when we are giving you radiation treatments and procedures?" He had a point there so I gagged down the egg yolks.
I am not a duel citizen. I was born in the US but one parent is from Canada. I looked into to becoming a Canadian citizen but was told I had to give up the US citizenship so I declined. I wanted duel citizenship.
I had an amazing childhood. The "hippie" household was fun. We had a huge house and eighteen acres of woods and field, huge barn, garage, pool, garden in the summer. My stepdad/mother were musician, artists and my stepdad also was nuclear physicist. Most of their friends were artists, musicians, teachers. On the weekends their friends stayed from Friday through Sunday. Practiced my reading skills with the lead singer of my uncle's band until he was drafted and moved to Canada. He lived at the house most of the time. Friends from England would come and live with us when they had visas to live here. I only made it to school about 60% of the time. I detested sitting in class, too boring. I studied at home with whoever was there that day or by myself. Moved in sixth grade and was shocked when I was expected to attend school full-time. I made it one semester, finished the cirriculum in January and was given independent study for the rest of the year.
I think there were downsides too though. I saw quite a bit a young age. This was the late sixties/early seventies. My parents were against the war. We learned all the anit-war songs but were so young we didn't understand what it was all about. There was an explosion at a building in the city and two of my stepdad's friends were killed, something to do with a protest. I do recall when the singer of my uncle's band was drafted and being told not to tell anyone he was staying with us. Then he disappeared to Canada and I never saw him again. My parents had some cool friends. Can't name one of them here but if you would like to pm me I can tell you. Funny thing I recall is that my parents would make me wear bell bottoms and hippie clothes. When I did attend school I would have my grandparents purchase me clothes so I could blend in with everyone.

Hi SamRules;
Boy, good thing this is the OT board, we are wwaayy OT! Mod Rowe will be lookin' for me! (Adore Mod Rowe) I was going to report on finally pulling all of my boxes of books out to start opening them (I have thousands of books, it may still take time) but then I read your post and I'm all sidetracked! Aside from cooking disasters (I have no nerve function in one finger from doing what you did, I was slicing a potato-a very tough potato) Wow, what a fascinating way to grow up. I'm always interested to hear about people's backgrounds and what they kept/left behind from them. No kidding I'll PM you in the morning, I now am desperate to hear the story. I'm not a picky eater by choice, but necessity. 18 operations does that! It's funny, I like to cook, and I guess it's because I can't have much, I like to cook for other people. Never had the radioactive egg trauma, but it sounds like my battles in nuclear medicine were not unique! Your stepdad could probably tell me way more than I'd ever want to know about the stuff I've forced down! Bummer about the citizenship, we're much more into keeping people in the fold up here. They change the rules in the US, my cousin was born there, and at first they told him (well, told my aunt) he'd have to choose when he turned 21, he was told (well, told my aunt) last month that it was okay, because the other citizenship is UK! Now he doesn't know what's correct, and it worries him. I told my aunt to get whatever they said in writing, on INS letterhead, for future reference, or he could be an episode of L&O. Oh, I was reading all of the posts on this board, and I wondered, have you watched L&O from the beginning like I have? You seem nostalgic for the way it was, like me.

I am a L&O addict. I did watch it when Michael Moriarty was on it but Jack McCoy is my favourite EADA. Now I only watch the shows with him. I was up until 3:00 watching the L&O marathon. McCoy's episodes start up again at 11:00. I have seen all the ones that are being shown though. I have missed a few over the years. I think there are four or five I haven't seen.
I started watching some movies that Sam Waterston has made. I had seen many of them before but never really noticed him in them. Watched one movie that was in black in white I think. It was a bit murky because it was on a tape and not a DVD. I remember the show he was on about Oppenheimer. My stepdad used to watch it. I always thought if they ever remade To Kill a Mockingbird he would have made a good Atticus but now he is not the correct age. He has a tendency to play, IMO, wimpy men. I like strong characters, may be why he didn't stand out. My friend who is a generation ahead of me, says he plays "sensitive" men. This same friend told me yesterday that I live too much in the modern world. I went to her house and she had some record albums out. I went over and said, omg you have record albums. Picked one up and asked, why are there are only six songs on this, most CD's have twelve songs? She turned it over and lo and behold there were the rest of the songs. I haven't seen an album in years. I used to purchase cassettes then CD's when they came out.
I gave most of my books to the library but still have a hundred or so. I may donate more. Beefed up one collection they had. I am a huge reader. Attorney I work with and I share our reading lists. I have an acquaintance who is an authour who was just nominated for the "Edgar Allan Poe" awards. Sent me an email the other day about it. Oops. I just remember he invited me to see a play this weekend and I forgot to go. Ah, well. He is on a board that helps bring readings and plays to this area.
Wow, eighteen operations. That is way too many. Hope you are well now. Have you read the book, "Lotus in the Fire" by Jim Bedard?

SamRules, we have many points in common, in the first one our admiration for Sam Waterston, I loved a lot Sam Waterston in Abraham Lincoln's role.
Effectively Sam Waterston is member of Unity08, it will oblige him can be to leave The Series, but I hope that not!!!!
Follow you the artistic careers of the children of Sam? They are also brilliant as their father.
To speak about the other things, in September I go to Boston more exactly to Malden to the North of Boston. If I could have information or to speak about it with somebody it would be nice.
I shall like corresponding if possible in French, please answer me.
