Chapter 13
“Wow, I think the whole city was out today,” Theresa commented as they entered the loft, carrying groceries.
“Well it is a beautiful day,” Nick grabbed the bag from her, placing it on the counter. “And in a few months it’ll be so cold outside you can’t even leave your house,” he said, wrapping his arms around her waist.
“Hmmm, how could we pass the time stuck inside all day?” she asked, pretending to be deep in thought.
“Oh I think we can come up with a few ideas,” he smiled playfully, nuzzling her neck as she closed her eyes.
“Mmmmm, winter can’t come soon enough,” she smiled up at him, pecking him gently on the lips.
“Well, we’d better start practicing now….you know…so we’ll be prepared for the wintertime,” he said, kissing her more deeply this time before pulling away slightly. “So about tonight?”
“Huh? What?” she opened her eyes slowly, still dizzy with desire. He couldn’t help but laugh.
“I said,” tucking a stray hair behind her ear, “about tonight. I was thinking, that I’d meet you at the club after I finish some painting. Then we could go to that concert in Central Park with a small picnic.”
“Oh that sounds wonderful,” she gushed, placing some food in the cupboards. “You’ve got a date.” She smiled as he hugged her from behind.
“Mmmm,” he mumbled as he placed kisses on her shoulder, pulling the strap of her white tank down.
“What time is it?” she whispered as she reached up, caressing his cheek, her eyes closed as she relished in his kisses.
“It’s 6:00.” He quickly glanced at the clock before beginning to devour her other shoulder.
“Oh no, I have to go,” she practically jumped, turning around to meet his sultry gaze.
“Where?” he asked, half concerned as he placed kisses on her collarbone.
“To the club…we have to rehearse….some new songs…I’m supposed to…perform tonight…” she forced out through heavy breaths as her desire was taking over her body.
“Oh…you don’t really want to go, do you?” he picked her up effortlessly, sitting her on the countertop as he continued to ravish her with kisses.
“Mmmmm,” she closed her eyes as she delved her fingers through his spiky hair, forgetting what they were talking about.
He slid his hands up her legs, pushing her turquoise skirt up her tan thighs as he caressed them seductively.
“Maybe we should just…stay in tonight?” he mumbled over her lips.
Her eyes shot open at the word ‘tonight,’ pushing him away from her.
“Bad Nick, you almost made me forget that I have to go,” she tilted her head to the side, feigning a dirty look.
“Hey, I can’t help it if I’m so d*mned irresistible,” he said, batting his eyes innocently.
“Yes…you are…” she laughed, grabbing him by his grey t-shirt as she pulled him in for a kiss. Wrapping her legs around his, she pressed him to her tightly as they kissed breathlessly before pushing him away and jumping off the counter.
“Now I’m really late,” she breathed heavily, smoothing down her clothes. She walked towards the bedroom as Nick followed her, letting out a heavy exhale.
“I can help you get undressed-I mean dressed…” he smiled wickedly.
“Oh no you don’t,” she laughed softly, holding up her hand. “I’m going to take my dress to the club with me to get ready.” She picked out a gold beaded one-shoulder dress from the closet with matching heels.
“Oh you’re going to wear that dress I like. I better get there on time, make sure none of those men steal you away from me,” he winked at her.
“You..have nothing to worry about.” She wrapped her free hand around his neck, pulling him down for a kiss. “Mmmm…I’ll see you there….and we’ll finish this later…promise…” She nuzzled his lips before turning to leave.
“I’m going to hold you to that,” he grinned as she waved on her way out. Nick exhaled. ‘I need a cold shower.’

A limousine slowly pulled up the front of the Lava Lounge as the backseat tinted window rolled down.
“You’ve got to be kidding me?” Ethan grumbled outloud as he eyed the club. “Theresa better have a good excuse for being in this dump,” he frowned as he exited the car. “Michael, why don’t you park the car, then you can meet me inside,” he ordered, adjusting his suit.
“Of course sir,” Michael answered, worried what awaited them as he pulled away from the curb.
Ethan cautiously entered the club, surveying his surroundings and the patrons as he scoffed to himself, approaching the bar.
“Excuse me, I’m looking for Th-Serena,” he spit out with disgust.
“Her show’s about to start man, take a seat like all the other guys,” Robert pointed to the tables as he poured drinks for a customer. “Can I get you something to drink?”
“Scotch…neat…”
“Here you go sir…one scotch neat..”
“Thank you,” Ethan answered distracted, placing some cash on the counter as he found an empty table.

“Serena, you’re on in two minutes.”
“Thanks John,” Theresa smiled over her shoulder, putting her last touch on her makeup. She opened her purse, smiling as she pulled out the picture of her and Nick. She rubbed the necklace he had given her in her hand as she stared down at the picture. ‘Nick,’ she thought warmly to herself as she gazed at him and sighed. She pressed the picture to her heart before returning it to her purse.
She stood up from her vanity as she eyed herself in the mirror. She fluffed her wavy locks, turning from side to side as she checked her dress from all angles. She reached for some perfume and spritzed a quick spray into the air, walking through it.
‘Ok, it’s showtime,’ she smiled at her reflection.

The lights dimmed as the show was about to begin. “Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming tonight to the Lava Lounge. Let me introduce the sultry songstress of the stage….put your hands together for…..Sssseeerreeeeennnnaaaaaa……….”
The audience cheered as Nick carefully made his way through the club, finding an empty seat at the bar as he placed a bouquet of flowers down beside him. He grinned widely as his eyes locked on Theresa as she took the stage.
Ethan narrowed his eyes on her, noticing how different she looked than usual. ‘What is she doing up there?’ he thought to himself.
The music began to play as Theresa began to sway, closing her eyes as she began to sing, caressing the microphone.
http://www.radioblogclub.com/open/56098/jo...To%20Be%20Wrong“I've got a right to be wrong
My mistakes will make me strong
I'm stepping out into the great unknown
I'm feeling wings though I've never flown
I've got a mind of my own
I'm flesh and blood to the bone
I'm not made of stone
Got a right to be wrong
So just leave me alone
You're entitled to your opinion
But it's really my decision
I can't turn back I'm on a mission
If you care don't you dare blur my vision
Let me be all that I can be
Don't smother me with negativity
Whatever's out there waiting for me
I'm going to faced it willingly
I've got a right to be wrong
I've been held down to long
I've got to break free
So I can finally breathe
I've got a right to be wrong
Got to sing my own song
I might be singing out of key
But it sure feels good to me
I've got a right to be wrong
So just leave me alone”“Woooooooooooooooooooooooo” the crowd roared as Theresa bowed slightly. “Thank you, thank you…I’ll be back in five,” she breathed into the mic, giving a sweet smile as she left the stage. Ethan jumped up quickly before the lights turned up, following her into her dressing room. Theresa sat at her vanity, powdering her nose when she heard a knock at the door.
“Sorry, I only have a free minute, but I can meet you after the show,” she tried to say pleasantly as she had numerous times before to male fans.
“Now is that any way to speak to your husband?” Ethan leaned against the doorway, arms crossed over his chest, his blue eyes narrowed.
Theresa spun around on her chair at his words, her eyes widening as she was hit with a memory of their wedding; him in his tux, waiting for her at the altar. Her looking around at all the guests, seeing all the faces that she had forgotten-mamma, Luis, Miguel, Whitney, Paloma….
“Oh my God, Ethan,” she whispered as she stood up, her mind racing a mile a minute.
“Oh so you do remember that you’re my wife. I wasn’t sure since you left me over a week ago,” he spoke with disdain in his voice.
“Oh…my….” she suddenly felt dizzy, lifting her hand to her head as she tried to keep from falling over as Ethan rushed up to her, catching her before falling. He carried her to the small couch behind her vanity, laying her down.
“What happened? Are you ok?”
“I…..I was mugged….” she explained, confusion in her voice as her eyes felt groggy. “A….week ago….I couldn’t remember who I was….til I saw you…just now…then it all came rushing back….” she said, still trying to put together her old memories with her new.
“So you didn’t leave me….?”
“No….I …didn’t…..”
“How have you survived this last week without knowing who you are?”
“Well….I..uh….-.” she started as her eyes darted up to the doorway.
“Hey beautiful! I have a surpr-…Ethan!? What the h*ll are you doing here?” Nick’s eyes grew wide and his smile faded to shock as he saw his older brother hovering over Theresa. “Why do you have your hands all over Serena?” He moved over to them on the couch, pulling Ethan up by his arm.
“Because she’s my wife Fox,” Ethan snapped back, pulling his arm away.
Nick’s mouth fell open in both shock and horror, not even noticing the bouquet falling from his hand. He swallowed hard, trying to force out his words. “Your…what?”
“My wife. What are you doing here?” he spit out. “And why are you bringing my wife flowers?” he asked, eyeing the bouquet on the floor.
Theresa sat up slowly, her dizziness subsiding. “Wait….how do you two know each other?” she looked from one to the other in confusion.
“This is my estranged brother Fox Crane, well Nicholas Foxworth Crane officially. Except he gave up the Crane name, so now I hear it’s just Nick Foxworth, is that correct little brother?” Ethan smirked, crossing his arms over his chest.
Nick opened his mouth to answer when Theresa cut in. “Wait-Nick is your brother?” she looked from one to the other, incredulously.
“He used to be my brother, before he gave it all up to be a struggling artist,” Ethan scoffed.
“The best decision of my life,” Nick shot back with contempt.
“So how do you know my brother?” Ethan eyed Theresa suspiciously.
“I..uh…he..was the one who found me when I was mugged…and he gave me a place to stay,” she finished quickly, looking down.
“Is that so?” Ethan glanced from one to the other. “So out of the goodness of your heart, you gave her a place to stay?”
“Yeah that’s right…some people like to do the right thing…something you know nothing about…” he glared at his brother.
“So you didn’t take advantage of my wife?” Ethan approached him, sticking his chest out defensively.
“Whatever happened between me and Serena is our business,” Nick stood before him, staring him down.
“Her name is Theresa and my wife is my business…” Ethan shoved him.
“That’s it man…” Nick started to shove him back as Theresa jumped to her feet, stepping in between them with her hands up.
“That’s enough! Both of you…stop this!….”
“You’re right Theresa. You’ve been through a terrible ordeal. Your family-your mother, Whitney…we’ve all been worried sick about you. Let’s get you home.” He took off his coat, draping it over her shoulders, purposely ignoring Nick as he turned his back on him.
“Theresa’s not going anywhere with you Ethan…” Nick said grabbing his arm. Ethan turned and swung as Nick ducked, pulling back and knocking him square in the jaw as Ethan hit the floor. Ethan leapt to his feet, charging his brother as they began to wrestle, hitting Nick in the face.
“Stop it!! Stop it now! Both of you!!” Theresa screamed in horror as the two men pummeled each other. Just then Michael ran into the room, surveying the situation in a second before he ran between the two men, separating them.
“That’s enough! That’s…enough…” Michael yelled, pushing the two men off each other.
“Fine….” Ethan said, gently touching his bloody lip.
“Fine…” Nick also answered, running his hand through his hair as his cheek throbbed.
“Theresa tell him that we are going home….” Ethan glared at Nick before looking back at her.
“Ser-Theresa……” Nick spoke, searching her eyes as she looked from one to the other before her, side by side.
Michael stood back, quietly watching his friend’s distraught demeanor. She stared at the ground for a few moments, her mind racing with contradicting feelings and thoughts. Finally she looked up at the two men, the beginning of tears forming in her eyes.
“I….” she looked from one to the other. “I’m…..sorry………..Nick……” she forced out, using all her strength to hold her tears back. “He’s…..my husband……I…” she finally met his gaze, his usually warm brown eyes shaky with despair, and she instinctively reached out her hand to his.
“Theresa we should get back to the mansion…it’s late….” Ethan caught her hand, taking it in his possessively.
“Ahem, I’ll get the car,” Michael spoke somberly as he turned and left the room.
Nick swallowed hard, his desperate gaze never leaving Theresa’s. Ethan pulled Theresa towards the door, beginning to lead her out. Nick reached out, grabbing her free hand from behind.
“Theresa….” Nick whispered, his eyes saying more than his words ever could.
Theresa’s eyes slowly met his as a tear streamed down her face. “I’m so sorry…..” she said softly, a sob in her throat. Nick slowly let his grip fall from her hand, taking a step back as if he were punched in the gut, unable to breath.
Ethan led her out of the room, as Nick stood there for a moment, staring at the empty doorway. He slowly walked over to the couch, slumping down on it as he noticed the flowers on the floor beside his feet. He picked up the bouquet, staring at them for a moment, suddenly reminded of the previous night on the rooftop. He slowly placed them on the couch beside him, his head falling in his hands, staring down at the floor as he was overcome by despair.
************************
“Now that you’re coming home, everything can get back to normal,” Ethan spoke as they both stared out their windows of the limousine.
“Yeah…” Theresa softly answered, wiping a stray tear from her cheek.
“Everyone’s been so worried….I knew there had to be an explanation to your disappearance….I can’t believe you got a job while you lost your memory. And singing in a dingy little club like that.” Ethan laughed to himself.
Theresa just stared out her window, watching as raindrops began to hit her window.
“And dressed like that…..No wife of mine would willingly look like she’s on display,” Ethan scoffed, giving her look a once over. “As soon as we get home, you can change into your real clothes. Oh and tomorrow there’s going to be a dinner party we have to attend at Wallace Miller’s house….” Ethan rambled on as Theresa stared off, the rain beginning to pour down. Lost in her memories. Lost in Nick.
