I'm sorry to not be able to help you, but I wasn't able to watch the entire last season. In fact, I'm barely catching up on it. But as soon as I know who that was, I'll let you know.

Last season ended with the ER being shot up while Pratt and Neela where at Gallant's funeral. You may be thinking about season 10 when Pratt was driving Deb and a teenage patient home and they were victims of road rage. They were run off the street in a river.

I think the actor you may be thinking of is Omar Epps. He was a guest star on the, way back when Carter was a surgical intern, I can't remember what season that was. But anyways, it was his character that jumped/fell in from of the train. They never really said one way or the other, but it was believed that he jumped because he couldn't take the pressure, or Benton's constant ragging on him. Hope that helps.

You are referring to season 3. Dr Dennis Grant (Omar Epps) was a surgical resident who Benton was trying to groom. Carter befriended him and shared his experience on dealing with Benton. A few times Gant had difficulty in the OR because of Benton's constant berating of him. At the end of the episode (NIGHT SHIFT), Gant is brought in after being hit by the L train. Carter took it very hard and it also affected Benton who went to the funeral in the following epsiode. One eyewitness stated that Gant did not jump but actually tripped and the show never really clarified if it was a suicide or accident. The official police report stated accident which I tended to believe. Gant worked too hard to get to where he was to throw it all away because of one person.

ERs Mekhi Phifer and his fiancée Oni Souratha have welcomed their first child together, his rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.
Mekhi Thira Phifer was born in Los Angeles on Tuesday at 6:47 a.m., and weighed 5 lbs., 4 oz.
"We are really happy and excited," the couple tells PEOPLE. "He is beautiful."
The boy joins Omikaye, the actor's 8-year-old son from a previous relationship.
The couple showed off their son's green-themed nursery to some 200 friends – including Don Cheadle and Laura Linney – at their baby shower earlier this month.
"This is just the start of the tribe," Phifer, 32, told PEOPLE at the shower. "I want to have four or five kids."

G-Unit - you recently made the following refrence to the Pratt character.
'Anyway, to start a discussion on the other characters. What do you guys think of Pratt's growth and maturity? He impresses me each episode and I am warming up to him possibly being ER chief. Mekhi seems as if he'll be the head honcho(if he works out his contract ) when Maura leaves and I think he's wearing the crown quite well. When we first met Pratt, he wanted nothing to do with any responsibility. I remembered when he turned down Chief Resident even though he was clearly the best candidate and they were forced to give it to Morris.'
I agree with all and everything you said, I really love this new improved Pratt. I loved the way Stanley Tucci's character noticed his potential and started to challenge him to stretch himself. I look forward to more of this tougher, more focussed leader who is showing more depth and compassion than we have seen since the heyday of Dr. Green.
I loved his interaction with Jeanie Boulet. He is becoming a true 'Pater Famelias'. However this new Aussie doc. is a bit unsettling.

extremely new to this group and even to keyboard (surviving dinosaur/living fossil here) BUT oh God i love this man. i think some of his finest early work is the " Junior Bunk" recurring character on the fine, beautifully written "Homicide a Life On the Street" . the character starts off as a dumb worker for his drug lord uncle Luther ,almost is a police informant who needs to be "monogomous" (anonymous is what he's trying to say ) and ultimately gets sent to prison to shield his uncle. when he next shows up, prison has made him almost unrecognisable. he is hard- faced, has the 1000 mile stare that looks through people, even the way he holds his body is menacing and he has become the would-be cop-killer who could never be taken for the dumb, scared kid who entered prison. EXCELLENT work, i don't think he got the recognition he deserved, because the series had some heavyweight actors in the regular cast.

It was almost as if they set it up that way last season. Everything was going too good for Pratt, so he had to die? Yeah, that doesn't seem like the way to end the first epi of the last season. It really should have been Abby b/c that girl has had like 10 lives now, her character really has nothing else to do..

This was probably the worst episode I have ever seen. Not a good way to start the new season. He has everything going for him so he has to die?! This might be a season finale (and a bad one at that) but not a series premiere. He was alive and then they totally cut him up, not to mention how graphic it was! Are they not even going to bring up how he was bagged?! The scene where he is alive and crying while blood squirts all over was not called for and a little too graphic. I'm really, really mad.

Mekhi also played "Proof" in the movie "8 Mile" Proof was a colleague and dear friend of mene here in Detroit for about 14 yrs. Proof was murdered at an after hours club here in Detroit and the circumstances were very very sketchy.
I dont want to get into that story but the Detroit crime lab was just shut down today for bogus evidence tampering, etc. etc.
BUT iI loved mekhi in Clockers and all his acting work but knowing the glow of Big proof, I wished mekhi wouldve actually nailed the part. proof has done a lot of positive things here in the Detroit Hip Hop community and world wide but due to his killer, cleaning the crime scene, locking everyone in the place in there and threatening them, giving them the story to tell and ditching his weapon, the truth has only been shared amongst a few who were there that night and have the balls to tell it.
rest in peace Big Proof
rest in peace Dr Prat... I loved that character!!

This was just hard to watch. To have Pratt rapidly decline like that was horrible, and watching him crying and bleeding like that was too much. He was such a strong character, then to have him helpless, knowing what was happening, and his brother watching...I cried like a baby. He had so much going for him, on top of that he was becoming close with his brother, it just seems like they ripped this great character from the show in such an undignified way. And then add to that by revealing he was planning on proposing to his girlfriend and would have been promoted! Can they ever let the characters on this show be happy?! I loved Pratt's character develpment, how he grew into such an inspiration for the ER. I will miss his smile and his interactions with Morris. If he had to leave the show, I wish they would have done it differently.

Pratt was one of the few intellectual, charismatic, and passionate black male characters on television. Visionary is very important and sometimes I don’t think that TV writers/executives comprehend how powerful the image of fictional characters are in our non-fictional world. Pratt was a golden example and to see his final episode was hard to begin with, but to see how the episode played out was extremely disappointing. The majority of the episode was focused on his graphic departure rather than being focus on and celebrate his tenure on the show. A character as strong and who played such a big role in the final years of ER, deserves a better send off!
I don’t understand what goes through these writers minds sometimes. Here you have a guy that has everything going for him, on the cusps of proposing to his lady whom he stood by during difficult times, served as a mentor to so many people, and about to the a position to run the hospital. There just wasn’t enough drama in his life, so he had to go. This is my only attempt to understand the minds of these TV executives.
Pratt is a irreplaceable characters and I hope NBC knows it. You can’t just add a dynamic actress like Angela Basset for the final season to create the magic Mekhi Phifer created when playing the role of one of if not the best characters in the history of the show. Phifer is a talented actor and I will be looking for him in his next project.

It wasnt the writers decision for Pratt to leave, it was the actor's decision. Mekhi was leaving ER either way, and imo I thought it was a amazing episode. I cried all through and it reminded me just how much I have loved this show from Episode One! It was a heartbreaking goodbye to a wonderful character, I cant even believe how much not only the main characters, but also the supporting cast has touched my heart over the years. What an amazing series with some of the best tv characters ever.

Couldnt have said it better my self.
Bravo!

Tonights show of ER was really sad and it shocked me that Pratt died off the show. I was not expecting that and hoped that he would make it through. He made the show for me and is my favorite on the show and the true reason I tune in. I am huge Mekhi Phiefer fan and watch anything he stars in. What lies ahead for Mekhi?

It might of been the actors decision to leave the show but he was the only reason why I watched the show since 2004 (when the all the original characters left) now I dont even care about ER now. I am not going to watch a single episode for this season, without Pratt ER is nothing.

Pratt had a great character arc, and replacing him with Angela Bassett cannot supplement that. There will not be much time to develop her character. Why kill off someone with the potential to leave the series on such a positive note? Everyone else is a flippin basket case, but let's have the guy with personal growth have a nasty death for no good reason. Nice NBC, real nice.

I was crying the whole episode, I really thought Pratt was the best doctor and Mahkai Pheiffer was a true character and friend on the show. I have been following ER since it started 15 years ago . I would like all the casts from all the shows to be on the last episode. Please don't cancel my favorite show. It is an icon and you haven't seen recent shows that last for 15 years. I will cry so bad on the last episode. Please make the last one 2 hours long? We need to see everyone from the beginning of the show. I love all of your characters.

Exactly...Angela is a ploy to have us forget Pratt...the concensus on these boards is def that NBC made a baaad move...

big deaths are normally supposed to upset people but have them overall say goooood episode...like i cried cuz it was soo damn good. But in this case....no...i was angry from beginning til end. And not the "oh im angry...good episode!" way.

P.S. Why Mahkai? who made the decision for him to go? I thought he made the show and he will be really missed alot. You should have killed off noone , because they are all brilliant actors.
