Does anybody know where, what city and/or state, Sacred Heart is supposed to be located??
lauren09
The hospital they shoot at is in Burbank California.

I know that. I meant what city is the show supposed to be set?
Tydus_Simonini
Didn't they mention it in the RV episode?

My Road To Nowhere? Not that I heard.

I believe it is set in Chicago. I could be wrong though.

I used to think it was somewhere in the Midwest. But didn't it take less than a day to get to Washington? Or was that not the state? I don't think you could get there in less than a day.

It was Washington they went to. Specifically Tacoma. But I'm not sure if it took them less than a day. And it's not Chicago either. One of them, I'm pretty sure it's Carla, is from Chicago.

Bill Lawrence intentionally chose to NOT tell where the show is supposed to be located. In an interview Bill said that he wanted the show to like a real live version of the Simpsons with LOTS of guest appearances and with viewers having no idea where Sacred Heart is.

Does this help?

Yes, thank you. Although it is disappointing.

I think the show takes place in Pennsylvania. In a fewe episodes there are comments about Kelso being from Monroeville which is on the outskirts of Pittsburgh, PA. Just a thought.

Here's something else to remember... If they were keeping it realistic, it would have to be somewhere near a SeaWorld. There aren't any in the Midwest as far as I can rememeber, so I guess it's not supposed to be there after all.

Boy they like to keep it ambiguous, don't they?

I guess I forgot about that, so then the San Diego area would make sense, but the PA comments are odd then.

Just becasue he's from PA doesn't mean he still lives there. They are obviously near a Sea World and also near a beach. I watched the season 5 finale again or the epi before, and JD took Kim horseback riding on the beach. I think California makes the most sense. I wish they would just tell us!

You are right, but the beach doesn't always mean ocean. It does make the most sense though.

I know. I was watching the episode where Turk bought the scooters last night and he mentions going on a scooter trip to Maine. That means they would have to be close to Maine, doesn't it? I think they like to mess with our heads.....

Well, seeing as how JD is from Ohio, Dr Cox Boston, Massachusetts, Elliot from Connecticut, Carla from Illinois, Kelso from Pennsylvania, and Turk from wherever he comes from (was it Virginia??) i always assumed it was somewhere in the east caost, like Connecticut. Plus, in the episode where Dan came (My Cake) it only took what? half-a-day to get there from his mom's house? I kinda assumed she still live in Ohio... then again maybe not... but, Lawrence did say he didn't have a set location for the show. he said he didn't want one, so that anywhere they wanted to go would seem logical. So, the season 6 pilot where JD and the middle-aged gay men went to Las Vegas, Nevada over night wouldn't seem impossible in certain places of California (a two hour drive with no traffic where i live...). plus they made it to Washington, so i assume California IS right... hmm... oh well... hope i helped...
alexandrad06
Well, in one of the episodes I was watching tonight, Turk got his new cell number and it was 916 - CALL TURK. 916 is a California area code. So.....

OK, so I've sone some homework and have a few things to report on...

In season 5, JD enters a triathalon on his 30th birthday. If you listen closely to what he says in the first few lines of the third segment of the episode, you'll hear him say, "As I side-stroked through the Pacific..." which means that the show does take place on the West Coast.

There are several road trip episodes that indicate the show being in SoCal. JD goes to Vegas in a day, which is totally possible from the LA/San Diego areas (I live in LA). And their road trip to Tacoma, WA, takes place over the course of a few days, which is also feasible. I have a friend whose parents drive to Seattle every year in 22 hours straight (don't ask), so a normal trip with stops would take about 2 days.

And as to the characters' hometowns, it makes sense that they're all from different parts of the country. Most SoCal residents aren't natives, but rather transplants. I was at my orthopedist's a few months ago for a football injury, and he had an intern working with him who was from Wake Forest U in NC. Plus, if you check out the weather patterns in the course of a season, it rains and gets cold, but never snows, just like the weather in SoCal.

So that's what I have to say about this. Yeah, it's long and makes me look like I have no life, but I'm a second semester senior who's just trying to kill time until Spring Break, so cut me some slack. And for the record, I'm down with Turk doing ballet in college to help with sports. As a 3-year varsity football starter and captain who now does ballet himself, it's a great way to get in shape and be more flexible. I encourage you all to give it a shot.

Thanks for the long post smile.gif. Southern Cal does make the most sense.
Dr_GirlyName
Erie, Pennsylvania could work. It's close enough to Monroeville for Dr. Kelso to commute. It's near Lake Erie, and hence, a beach for horseback riding. Sea World (or what used to be Sea World until recently bought out by Six Flags) is nearby in Aurora, Ohio.

Having no specific location makes more sense still though...

Yeah, def. doesn't make sense. I'm from NE Ohio and it's def. nowhere around here. You've obviously never seen Geauga Lake or Lake Erie for that matter.

OK, I know agree that it is most likely southern cali. One of the songs from season one (which I love) the one where JD has the headphones on and everyone is going to the music...good time....there is a line in the song that says i got shot down in southern california...so one more thing that makes sense I guess

I think alexandrad06 is right folks... the show is set in the 916 area code, Sacremento, CA. And the show is shot, BTW, in North Hollywood, CA.

Actually, considering the My Tuscaloosa Baby, episode and his slightly southern accent I think that it's more likely that he's from Monroeville, Alabama. Whaddya think?
abiebaby
Come on!!! Everyone knows it's set in Springfield. The hospital is just the other side of the nuclear plant. Oh, yeah; and the bar that they all hang out in is Moe's.

Dr. Cox is from Pittsburgh....and Dr. Kelso from Monroeville...I think they just keep us guessing anyway

just because that's where the set is, doesn't mean that's where it takes place, mos shows take place somewhere other than where it is filmed..anywho...i would rather keep guessing...maybe the last episode will fill us in on it all...really don't want it to end though
gory_v
i agree, california definately seems right to me.
drjjh
does anyone know exactly where SH/the set is?
I was interviewing at USC a few months ago and thought i'd try and find it...i got lost in a not so pleasant part of LA at night and gave up...

No it is in California it takes about 9 hours from central california to Tacoma. So it is in California and it is near a seaworld so my guess is near okland!

there is also a Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, FL. in the either 1st or 2nd season dvd extras, it is mentioned that they shoot at the now defuct North Hollywood hospital, because for a while people came in needing medical help. i have always assumed that they were in so cal because of the sea world and beach scenes....so yeh i repeated what y'all already knew. heh.
