Full Version: Goren/Eames vs. Logan/Wheeler
NBC > Primetime > Law & Order > Law & Order: Criminal Intent

I loved Mike Logan in the orgininal L&O, but on a non Goren week I'm always disappointed. I still think it's a great character, but I fell in love with watching Goren/Eames.

I think that the weeks with Goren and Eames the ratings msut be higher, because they are the orgininal team. Also for the entire month of December almost everytime you turned it on it was Logan and one of his partners. Even on USA or Bravo. Do you think it's because they are trying to get viewers attached to Logan? Maybe boost the ratings? I know that this is what Vincent D'Onofrio wanted, but I would rather have it be the Goren show ALL the time!!!

I don't see why all four of them can't work together like on SVU. That would make things more interseting.

Occasionally it would be alright but not every week. I think that'd be too much of a style change for the show. I know it would weird ME out.

But if it's not a G/E week, I too am disappointed. There's just so many reasons why i like G/E better that i can't list them all...again.

Well I personally enjoy the Goren/Eames eppys a bit more then Logan/Wheeler eppys. Though both couples are great to watch, the Goren/Eames story lines seem to be a bit more personal and more grabbing.

No offense to Logan and Wheeler, but when one of their episodes is on, I tend to watch House. I love Logan. Stopped watching the original series after he left.

However, CI is Goren and Eames for me. Always has been and always will be. If House weren't on opposite I'd probably watch the Logan and Wheeler epis. I watched the Logan and Barek ones despite my preference for Goren and Eames.

While I'd love to see Goren and Eames exclusively, I understand the reason for the Logan and whoever he's partnered with episodes and am glad for them. VDO and KE every other week - or once a month as NBC has been scheduling them lately - is better than no VDO and KE at all.

As for just plain statistics, I have no idea which episodes draw in more viewers. I understand why among established fans the nod will probably always go to Goren/Eames.

I don't have any actual numbers - BUT - have looked into it in the past - as far as I can see the ratings are very very similar regardless of which team is on - usually averaging around 9 million or so per episode.

I'm personally much more invested in Logan as a character AND tend to like the Logan and Wheeler episodes more. But I watch regardless of which team is on. actually its the only program I watch.

So even at its worst / regardless of the team - its must see T.V for me smile.gif

I agree with you, except however, I do not like House that much. I suffer though logan, so the ratings keep up. I was not a Chris Noth lover, even on my regular law and order. he was best on the past show, "sex and the city". I really get that feeling that is some what of his real life character. I do not agree with " likey mikey., as seen below. " goren and eames is the greastestteam". I like them both, but love goren. he is smart and intruging, and may I say quite good looking, even though I AM 60, and old enough to be his mother, ( I personly coud not be with a younger man) but sure can still look!! I ike Eames alot. she has such good quips! I could not see goren with anyone but eames. Rember that redhead that took her place for a short period, as she was having a baby?? She had no respect for goren and just could not cut it! goren was always a gentleman with her, but aways showed he missed, needed eames!

I don't think that I would like all four all the time, maybe once and a while. I forget the title of the episode, but the one with the judge that tried to get dirt on the Major Case Squad, including harrassing Goren's mom pushing her into a psychotic break. That was great seeing Logan and Goren work together! In fact seeing those two work a case going at it from two different angles would be interesting!

I do believe however that there should be a crossover episode with SVU and CI. How awesome would that be! Imagine Much and Goren working together!! LOL LOL

A crossover eppy would be awesome. My first love is SVU and my second is CI so I would be livid! John and Bobby would be a riot to see together. Munch would be the conspirater and Bobby would be trying to analyze him. LOL!

That would be so cool, can you imagine the headaches the others would suffer till the end of the case? Both captains, and the ADA's would have a fit!!

laugh.gif Sometimes, LikeyMikey, even replying to any team comparison morphs into other topics, eg Why are we so fond of Bobby Goren! Welcome to the L&O CI board, nice to have you here. biggrin.gif I'm a huge Mike Logan fan from ep one of L&O, mentioned before I had a Briscoe/Logan NBC publicity still in my locker wink.gif ...so feel free to come and hang out in the threads discussing the Logan/Wheeler eps with me!
I think there is fair crossover between the two, for the fans who love CI and know ratings are inportant overall, but I know my L&O cronies watch L/W because lots of them have given up on the mothership this season. (Can't imagine why... wink.gif)

Thanks Mari glad to be here smile.gif

I love the show BUT my main loyality is to Logan - can't you tell by the username LOL!!

Yup the Mothership is pretty dismal this year isn't it - But of course since Mikey was given the boot its never been the same for me LOL smile.gif / Well at least he landed somewhere else in the L and O universe.

Hello, I am a Goren/Eames CI Fan all the way!!! I can't even stand to watch on nights their not on!!! Please oh Please NBC.... I'm begging ..... unsure.gif Give them back to us!!! sad.gif

Goren and Eames.

Vincent is a positively unique and one-of-a-kind actor. And Goren and Eames make a GREAT team.

I've put up with them taking two of the original cast members, but if Goren or Eames are 'suddenly' shot/died/ect./ and no longer on the show I'm pretty sure the ratings and viewers are going to take a cliff dive.

It's the same thing with SVU, when Olivia was supposedly put in the witness protection program and replaced with some blonde (I havn't gotten this far yet, considering I just started watching Law and Order CI AND SVU about a month or two ago) I was SO happy when she came back - My guess is that either she left temporarily or she was planning on not coming back, but the viewers went down so they put her back on.

Reading your post of character preference somewhat surprises me....( laugh.gif laugh.gif ) I'm sensing some newness to posting opinions on ci's part as far as realizing that agreeing with one person's opinion doesn't necessarily warrant pointing out disagreement with another person's opinion. Especially not without explanation... (eh herm! i'm no rowe, but let's be careful out there, huh, ci?)

I'm an admitted Gorenophile: nothing to be done about it...he's what brought me to the show. I don't watch the Logan/Wheeler episodes, but that's pretty much my loss considering that, this season, Logan seems to be getting the better scripts!! dry.gif Pity for me; bully for you.. wink.gif I still crack up when I think about that park chase scene in, what was it, Maltese Cross?, when Logan just looks plain exasperated and some dude leaning against a wall (eating a sandwich or something?) could only bother to nonchalantly flick a finger in the direction that the kid ran and then only after Logan had to stop and practically beg him with his eyes...

Being cut more from the straight cop cloth and less a completely fictitious "someone's baby" form of a character creation, the exit of Rene doesn't seem to have hurt the overall quality of your guy's episodes from what I've seen. But the Goren eps this season, taking away all "courtesy points" and flatly comparing them to classic Goren ep's of old: Just horrid. Horrid even compared to what, I believe, would/should have been the temporary anomoly of the physicality-modified, toned down Goren that we got for Season 5, before Rene left.

That said, what I'm finding pretty odd is that Rene's exit seems to have decimated the quality of MotherLO, as everyone seems to be opining. I don't watch the main, but have watched ep's in the past. Having seen the, again, less fictional cut of the characters, you would think that the remaining writing team over there would have been able to keep that show from falling apart!? That's pretty bad...

If NBC DOES expect to keep both shows on the air past this year and hopes to bring up the ratings - I suggest shelling out whatever needs to be shelled out to bring Rene back. There are, as this season has obviously revealed, some better cuts that they can afford to make to offset his salary without causing damage to the quality of two of their television shows!

(...yeeeaaah...thought about it... just no way to make that last bit sound less cold-hearted on my part without lying about what I think! laugh.gif)
VivaSicilia!
The show seems to have lost almost all of its heart, a great chunk of its brain, and all but an atom of its nerve.

I feel bad for Nicholson, who got cut off at the knees when they cancelled _Conviction_, then got her role on pretty much just as Balcer left. It's got to feel like getting a DVD of your favorite movie for your birthday -- when you only have a VHS player. Sure, it's shiny, it's new, it's in higher definition, and it has more features. But it's useless, because it just won't play with the old hardware setup.

I sooooo wish there was a way to pull that out and paste it right under the LOCI banner at the top of the page!! It just so succinctly captures this soulessly plodding season in a nutshell for me... Though I can only really speak re: the G & E side.
ci_lover88
Vincent and Kathyrn have such passion for their roles that you almost believe they are real dectives! They both make one look foward to watching the series each week they are on . Noth and Julianne, do not seem to come across the same way. In my opinion, they lack the passion for their roles. I hope some how, this show works the bugs out,and will some how continue to bring pleasure to our homes each week.
Skeptic007
I don't watch House, and so I watch all the Criminal Intent episodes regardless of which team of detectives is on.

I am a HUGE fan of Mike Logan in addition to Goren, and so I don't have to choose between the two. I think the Logan episodes are getting comparable ratings to the Goren episodes, which is fine with me.

I like Logan's partner Wheeler a lot more than last year's Barek. Wheeler is much more alive and involved, whereas Barek was quite dull and boring. This new partner has made this part of Season 6 more enjoyable for me than Season 5.

However, with most of Season 6 completed, I have to admit that overall, I've enjoyed the Logan episodes much more than the Goren ones. For one thing, the Logan episodes are more focused on crimes and criminals and not family issues like dying mother and homeless brother. Chris Noth also seems more alive and having fun compared to Vincent D'Onofrio. I don't know what's happened or going on with D'Onofrio, but it looks like he's losing interest in continuing to play Goren. How all this will play out, and whether it will impact whether Criminal Intent is renewed, is the $1 million question.
rwm2007
I really don't watch the shows with Chris Noth. Nothing against him, but LOCI without VDO is just anther detective show. He is what makes the show different from other cop shows.

I receive a google ratings alert....the shows with Gorena nd Eames are doing far better in the ratings.

Actually, they're not, if you look at viewership numbers. Only one G/E episode (Amends w/ 9.44 Million viewers) beat its companion L/F episode (Seeds w/ 8.476 Million) so far with the seventh season run on NBC. You would expect that Amends would have done better because of the subject matter concerning Eames' late husband. The official Nielsen reporting for this week's run of Depths won't be available until Tuesday and Courtship hasn't yet played on NBC.

Smile (7.702 Million) to Lonelyville (8.221 Million)
Self Made (8.21) to Offense (9.058)
Untethered (7.84) to Senseless (8.892)
rwm2007
I don't have the actual numbers in front of me since the ratings google alert I receive is on my work email address (isn't that awful?!), but I remember that Smile, Amends and Untethered were the highest of the season. One email said that all the advertisement paid off because Untethered pulled in the biggest numbers of the season. But it's possible that I [b]could be mistaken and have USA mixed up with NBC. Especially since we all know that there is hardly ANY advertisement on NBC! But I will pull my emails Monday. I guess we all should keep other factors in mind when comparing such as the premiere of American Idol in January, etc. and compare apples to apples.

But I can tell you know your stuff! :-)

Thanks!!!!!!! :-)

Don't know about knowing my stuff so much as keeping an eye on my peeps at CI. Can't stand American Idol and what it does to every program's viewership. It's a train wreck on steroids.

These numbers are for NBC. I've also got the numbers for USA since I was keeping those for another board for comparison purposes. Try this site that our moderator, PeachyBC, turned me on to. They don't delete the info from one week to the next so it makes it possible to keep track of seasonal changes as new programs debut and others are in rerun. Hate it the way Futon Critic and even Nielsen does the reporting since they replace the weekly info with new stuff and the old material is gone. No archive. It's just annoying when you want to go back and look at something else and it's been replaced with new data.

TV By the Numbers

Definitely Goren and Eames... I watch it for Vincent's performance, just because I saw him in The Cell and the actor is very interesting.
