Yeah, that is a very good observation. People like Tim do not seek followers, and probably do not even want them, but people just listen to what they have to say.

WOW....... What an episode, the boys finally spoke about, Texas Forever. And it was great, so long overdue. The scene on the field was, so inspiring. Boys just being boys, but at the same time, helping each other with their problems. Just being friends and talking to each other, it was just awesome. Smash dealing with Waverly, Tim's awarkard moment with the neighbor lady, Jason coming to terms with the chair, and then, the very best thing yet. Jason, becoming a mentor, to a very nervous Matt. Who is questioning his limited ability as QB1, only to have Jason "step up to the plate" and give him encouragment and technique advice. It was funny and heart warming, as always. Yeah, I cried a little.

Yes, that scene was wonderful. I think Jason was able to forgive Tim now since he just cheated a little with that girl. He can now see how it's human to stray.
I hope this little training lesson with Matt makes Jason realize that he should return back to school, back to his friends.

Boys night was amazing and way long overdue. Those four together were great all the way around..... Love the bonding between all of them, especially Jason and Matt - good for both of them. (all of them really) loved the conversations................. Once again FNL always throws in something I would never expect.

I just watched the online episode and noticed something...wonder if everyone else did. After Jason coaches Matt to make the difficult pass, it seems like we see Jason standing. It could just be the camera angle, or they could have actually had him out of his wheelchair, but I think the moment was magical and he probably felt as if he could stand.
Take a look...it's 6 seconds before the end of scene 5.

I thought the scene was great and also set up Jason for the obvious next step in his career: Coaching. Did anyone else get this? He's clearly been struggling with the 'what's next' question - he's been fumbling around every since the accident - having a hard choice between the diploma or the GED, desperatly getting engaged, jumping at the chance for a spot on the quad rugby team... just seems like he's been trying to grab on to anything that will give him a sense of 'normalcy' or 'place.' The failed quad rugby trial, backed by the 'cheating' and questioning of his engagement, sent him back to square one in terms of 'what's next.' However, he eased perfectly into his coaching position with Matt, clearly feeling his sense of place. Wonder if he'll ask Coach Taylor to be a member of the coaching staff?

It was very inspiring to see Jason go from the poor me to realizing that he has something to offer and he can contribute and found his place in the world. It seemed to be a recurring theme with Tyra wanting to go to college even though her mom says she can't, and even Bo who was being beaten up by four kids and was so amazed that Tim Riggins was picking him up from school - That really tugged at my heart.

This whole scene between the four guys was awesome. My favorite line was, "Thats so Brokeback" too. Taylor's delivery was hilarious!!! I'm glad that Tim and Jason have finally moved on from the problems they had. Lesson learned: NEVER let a girl come between two friends. As for Jason teaching Matt some of his tricks, I was so proud of Jason. It had to take alot for him to do that.. be on that field.. watch Matt intiate the plays that Jason use to be a part of. Hopefully this will show Jason that maybe he does have a shot at being a coach. He'd be an amazing one.. all in all, this scene was my favorite... and it definitely brought a tear to my eye.

yep. best part of the entire show. i got chills.
Street was so serious it was intimidating, yet honest and encouraging.
walked Matt through the whole thing, "check off the safety, then throw it high and outside, to where your guy can catch it." .. bang on!
been a while since i was intrested in Jason and his happenings, but that moment was amazing.

Yeah, I totally got the vibe that he could come back next season (assuming there's a next season) as an assistant coach for QBs. Throw in a cocky freshman trying to steal Matt's job (or even better yet, Smash trying out for QB1), and you've got instant drama for season two.
My only question: Do varsity high school teams even have QB coaches? Maybe it'll be more of an informal arrangement between Coach Taylor and Jason ... but then there's still that lawsuit floating about, so who knows.
As for Jason standing, I think he's actually lifting his body with his arms (grasping the armpads of his chair as support) to see if Riggins caught the pass. You can still see a little bit of the chair behind him. However, with the lights shining on him and the low camera angle, I think it was a cinematic effect to make Jason appear as if he were standing - even for a fleeting second - to symbolize how football makes Jason feel whole again.
Anyway, if I were the director, that's what I'd claim.

What a great scene! It was so cool to have them all together for once.

The way High School Sports programs work that I have seen, teams get a certain number of coaches based on how many people are on the team. As far as what types of assistants they want it would be up to the AD and the Head Coach who they would like to get. Depending on if he has any openings or not will determine if he could hire him. From what I saw he would be a great QB Coach. Note: This could all be different in the world of Texas High School sports.

I think this was one of the best episodes yet. I loved the scene with the four guys on the field (one question- since when do Smash and Riggins hang out together? I thought they couldn't stand each other?). As for high schools having a special QB coach, if you've ever watched "Two-a-days" on MTV, the Hoover high school team seems to have a seperate coach for everything, just like in college. I don't think it's out of the question for a big time program, but remember when the former Dillon QB hero (forgot his name)came back to town and asked coach for a job, he told him there was no room in the budget.

Mar 24 2007, 08:53 AM
We are assuming that Jason will be paid. I think that because he is technically still a member of the team, he is there for that reason to help Matt. It will probably pave the way to him deciding that coaching is something he wants to do for the future.

Yes, I thought that was the one problem with this scene. Smash and Riggins are supposed to hate each other. Remember "It's not racism- that guy could be Santa Claus and I still wouldn't like him."
And about the other ex-QB who wasnted a job: Coach taylor said it might be a different story if it was before the season started, but he couldn't hire him during the middle of the season.

If you watch the deleted scenes from Changes, there is an explanation as to why Tim was with Matt & Smash. Tim wanted something to eat, Matt & Smash were leaving work, and Tim's truck wouldn't start. That is why they were together. As the season went on, I think that Smash and Tim have developed a mutual respect for each other. At least that is what I have seen.

There is a deleted scene from Ch Ch Ch Changes , which includes Mash, Matt, and Riggins. It sets up how they got tegether, before they run in to Jason, at the store. It is a great scene and would have been great, in the episode. Also, in Scott Porter's phone interveiw, he mention's the scene, inwhich he appears to be standing. I think he said it was a camera angle which implied how great Jason's felt to be back on the field, and just being with the guys, and playing the sport he loves so much.

I love how they are using camera angles and body positioning to help convey Jason's state of mind since his mobility is limited and therefore the actor is limited in his physicality. As pointed out, shot to look standing tall when in his element with the guys. Looking tiny and diminished in the shot in the store when he cannot buy the beer. Shot so he can barely see over the counter. Lying flat on his back while having the pity party when Lyla comes to see him. He never moves, except of course to shield himself (too late!)from the cup hitting him square between the eyes (which was one of the great moments of this great ep). Then after the game, when everyone else is celebrating, looking so lonely and withdrawn, all hunkered down in the chair. Great directing and photography.
It speaks to Jason's confusion that now that he has worked things out with Tim, his anger at Lyla over the situation is coming to the surface again. It's like he's got to be mad at one of them about it. But I hope before the season is over, we get one more scene with the three of them just being friends again. We saw that in the pilot during Tim's "Let's touch God" moment, and then again when they busted Jason out of rehab. Would be a good way to end the season for all three. Then they can work the messy details out next season!

How about the expressions on Tim's and Jason's face as the bus approached the Dallas Cowboy Stadium. When inside the locker room, to see their names on signs above the lockers. They had finally made it. I loved it when Coach said, "does it get any better than this, no I don't think so, soak it in." But, one thing I really loved, was the expression on Jason's dad face during and after the game. You could tell, how happy and proud, he was for Jason. When Jason turns to the crowd and see's his mom and dad, and yells at them and they yell back and wave at him, absolutely rocked. Jason was a part of the team, he and his dad, love so much.

Wow.....now the Dynamic Duo is in Mexico, looking for Dr. Feelsgood or Dr. No ......who knows. But Jason is looking for a miracle with shark blood!!! Even Tim knows this can't be good. But they gotta wait a week to see the Good Doctor. So, they wait in a, lovely Mexican Hotel, watching game shows. So funny, Tim's "we got..... no memories, no women, no stories. so they hit the streets of Mexico. " No regrets Six."
The scene in the bar, is brilliant and heartbreaking. It starts with a shot drank to the late great, John Wayne. "Heres to J. Wayne" Heres to walking" "Heres to running" In the karaote bar, we discover the boys many talents, they can sing. Tim smiles a mega watt smile "Whats ya got Six," as Jason sings "All my exes live in Texas." Jason hollars "Clears eyes, Timmy" as Tim sings in spainsh. But as the night lingers, and the booze kicks in, the mood changes. We hear Jason's hopes and dreams, we see Tim's concern. As Jason speaks to the crowd. Very moving.
Now, when Tim calls Lyla. This does two things 1. He really wants her, to help him with Jason.
2. It was a good reason to talk to her, after the fiasco, in her bedroom.
But, I thought she was a little distant, maybe she was just sleepy. But the kicker was the long pause by Tim, in their conversation. "I swear Lyla, Jay gonna die" "Please help me, help Jay." Now, I had never thought, Jason would die, until Tim said it.
Can't wait to see the Three Amigos in Mexico. It is going to be priceless! and maybe a little awkward, you know the good stuff.

Watching the two lifelong friends hang out together in Mexico was the best part of last week's episode. The writers do a really good job here, as the dialogue feels real. They way they sort of snap back and forth at each other - throwing insults back and forth but really loving each other. (And no, I don't mean Brokeback kind of love.)
I loved how Tim saw - through the drunken revelry - the depths of his friend's pain. And how he saw that Street needed him to switch their usual roles around. Usually, Riggins is the screwup and Street is the smart one that reels him back in. (As illustrated by the incident between Riggins and "the only honest cop in Mexico". Funny!)
But Riggins could see that this time, Street is blinded by his need to believe he'll walk again, and Street is the one acting like a screwup. (A seventeen year old taking off for Mexico? For questionable medical treatment? With $10,000 in cash? Without telling his parents? Yep, Street's the screwup this time.) So Riggins has to be the smart, responsible one. A role he's clearly uncomfortable with. But he makes the call, trying to figure out a way to reel Street back in. I was really moved, the way he begged Lyla to come down and help Street.
(And yes, I agree she seemed distant, and am hoping it was just because the middle of the night phone call woke her up and she wasn't really hearing him. Otherwise, why would a girl so obsessed with helping a troubled - and possibly dangerous - stranger be so uninterested in helping two friends she's loved in different ways her whole life??)
I'm looking forward to more of the pair - Texas Forever! - and the ups and downs of their friendship.

Wow......What a trip, down Mexico way. I have watched this episode....I don't know, maybe four times, I've lost count. But each time, I'am reminded, of the brilliance, of Friday Night Lights. I love this show, and this episode is why.
Tim is a man of few words, but when he speaks, he sails it out of the park. As a matter of fact, I don't think, they have hit the ground, yet. "I love you and I will knock your a$$ out, and bring you back to Dillon" This is the second time he has told Jason, he love him. The first time, was in the locker room after the Homecomming game. The coach gave Tim, the game ball, for his performance on the field. But, Tim gave the ball to Jason. "Take it Six, I love you like a brother, please.....take it" He is so strong and good, but he doesn't know it, yet.
Finally..... Jason realizes, the surgery is a bad idea, thank goodness!! I think the plunge in the Gulf, might have opened, Jason's eyes. That life is worth living, even if it's not the life, you thought you would be living. Any day, above ground is a good day. Yep....I kinda think so too!
