If they hooked up, it would change the whole focus of the show. They have to stay "just friends" so that it stays a "cop drama", not a "relationship drama", like most of the other shows on tv now.

Like I said in another post...I will paste it here:
"I just believe when they are together..they are unbeatable mostly because of the compassion they have for the victims/survivors and how that has always been a priority to them, not jumping in the sack with eachother. You can tell they love/care for eachother, but they don't need sleep with eachother, and we don't need to see them sleep with eachother to get the idea". Thats what makes them so compelling is that the DON'T hook up. You are able to use your own imagination or watch how they interact without ruining the whole focus of the show. Look how other shows that had partner "hook-ups" have ruined the shows and partner dynamics. So I am gonna go with a BIG NO on this one.

Watching last night's episode ticked me off a bit. In fact, I didn't even finish watching it. (I have it on dvr so I'll watch the rest eventually) The point where I stopped watching was when Dani and Elliot were in the car together having a conversation. Now, I know that this is necessary to give us some background details on "Dani." That's fine. But I found myself rather annoyed that I would KILL to see a scene with Elliot and Olivia simply having a conversation non-work related. And the fact that it has come to the point where I'm just fiending for some simple interaction between the two is just irksome to me. That's the way it SHOULD be, and I don't know why the writers don't write it this way anymore. I'm hopeful, from the spoilers that I've seen for later in the season, that we might get some of that back with Benson and Stabler. But it does annoy me that the interaction that I've been missing and wishing for for a couple of seasons now between E&O has not materialized, while we have Beck for one freaking episode, and she's already chumming it up with Elliot. It makes me sad- I don't care about Beck. I'm not too fond of the fact that tptb felt the need to bring in this new character to begin with- I'm not invested in her and I'd rather focus on the other characters while MH is gone. But the fact that she's now getting the interaction with Elliot, after only one episode, that I've been wishing for with Olivia for a loooong time now, just irritates me. This is my favorite show, and Elliot and Olivia *TOGETHER* are 99% of the reason.
TPTB- Please, consider what I'm saying. In the meantime, I'm just not interested enough in watching Dani to make an effort to tune in the next few weeks. I'm not saying I won't watch- I'm just saying I'm not going to be making a special effort to make sure I'm home or not busy on Tuesday nights until Olivia is back and Dani is gone. Sure, maybe it's a bit of jealousy that this new character that I don't give two craps about is getting the time with Elliot that Olivia hasn't been given for quite a while now, but it is what it is. And it's enough to really make me not care about the show until Dani is gone.

I'm not a big fan of the "Oh, like, lets have Elliot and Olivia fall in love and get married and have triplets!!" thing, but I would actually love to see something subtle between E&O. I think the writers could pull this off. I definitely wouldn't want it to take over the show and for SVU to become a soap opera. However, the type of thing that I'd really like to see happen is for E&O's friendship to deepen once again. I'd like to see them *there* for each other. I'd like to see little non-work related conversations happen between them occassionally. I'd like to possibly see a scene of them together out of the work environment. I'd like to see them be best friends again. After this type of relationship has once again been re-established, I admit that I would like to see something deeper come of it. I'd like to see a scene (probably short so as not to take over the actual detective work-related plot of the episode) in which they kiss or it is established that they had slept together. Leave the rest up to our imaginations though. And don't get it involved in their work-life. Once again, I don't want a soap opera. I would like for them to be close though, and for a little bit of angst, and for their actions to show their love for each other- friendship and more. We saw a little of that in Fault, which I truly THANK tptb for. That was an awesome episode. But then that was it. Nothing more and E&O are cold to each other once again. Hopefully this issue will be resolved later this season, as I've seen some spoilers stating that E&O will get closer and O will go through tough times and E will help her through it. I'm holding out hope that this will transpire. It has promise, anyway. Because THAT is the type of thing I'm watching this show for.

I didn't know that... I hate that.
Though, she is with her baby, so I shouldn't allow myself to be too upset

But still...
she is coming back this season, but they had to keep shooting. Instead of working the pregnancy into the show, they decided to leave it out. She will be back soon (in 4 more episodes)

What people need to be reminded of is that TPTB aren't ignoring Fin or Munch. Ice-T and Richard Belzer are both very busy with other projects, and probably didn't have time to step up their work on SVU. I know for a fact Ice-T has a new Rap School show on VH1. They just don't have time. Instead of pouting about Dani, why not just give her a chance. Cripes.

I agree that simple interaction between Olivia and Elliot has been missing for quite a while now. However, I think that some of that missing interaction has been story and character related. After seven years of being partners in a unit that has a high attrition rate and detectives don't normally last for more than a few years, it's to be expected that the pressures of the job would affect their partnership in ways that we, the viewers, wouldn't want to see.
I miss seeing Olivia and Elliot chatting or laughing together. When I see the OJ scene in season 1, I miss those moments even more. But I have faith that what we've seen in the past two years, and what we're seeing while Olivia goes undercover, will eventually return these two dynamic people to a place of comfort that no longer carries an underlying tension and anger.
As for the plea to TPTB, I wouldn't be surprised if people in the know do read these posts, but by the time we see an episode, they're 4-7 episodes ahead and can't change things to accommodate fans' requests.

No, no, no. I'm never sure what "hook up" means exactly, but it doesn't matter. No Olivia/Elliot love story. No, please GOD, no. Show is fine the way it is...though I always want a little more with Richard Belzer and IceT (what is that man's name? How can a grown man walk around calling himself Ice T? Like him, like the character, but feel goofy calling a person "Ice T.")

yeah i agree... they dont need to hook up, but some more OJ scenes would be nice... they always used to have them - like when they were just walking along the street in wanderlust and liv was talking about falling in love with an older man, or when liv joined stabler at breakfast, or when liv just wanders in to cragen's office for a chat, in a single life (see? im learning the names!) i mean, i know they were sort of establishing their history cos it was season one, but i liked hearing about their past etc. i wish there was more of that now. they have always been my favourite svu scenes.
ps. the OJ scene has always bothered me... who just leaves a jug of orange juice on the bench without putting it in the fridge?

I'm not sure about the show ending, but the show would definitely have to change if Benson and Stabler were to get together. First of all, they could never remain partners if they were also dating. It would be interesting to see if they would register with HR as a couple right away or if they would keep it hush hush. The minute people found out though, they would be reassigned. That wouldn't be too big of a deal for the show because Munch and Fin could just be paired up with them, but it would mean less scenes with Olivia and Stabler together because they wouldn't be working cases together. So I guess it comes down to which you want more: lots of scenes with Olivia and Stabler or Olivia and Stabler as a couple.

Have them have a little affair, but only talk about it, or a serious kissing scene and then leave it up to the imagination. It will keep us tuned in more. I hope the producers do keep on what goes on - on these boards, b/c it is the viewers who keep the show on the air ( ratings)- but i am in the middle, I think that the producers should leave it up mostly to our imaginationbut also maybe some subtle things, maybe almost kiss, or after a long hard case they were working on they start something but stop - but i agree, i don't think if this show is going to be on for a few more years they should pursue a realtionship now.

Personally, I do NOT want the two to have any kind of relationship except a professional one. However, I see hints, and I suspect that they may have already crossed that romantic line because of too many little things. Am I seeing a trail of bread crumbs where one doesn't exist? Time will tell.
In my household we thought that the portrayal of Stabler's personal life as "stable" was a breath of fresh air. But now, the writers are going the way of EVERY television show whether cop show or not, where the main character can not have a good marriage. Even though the statistics for divorce among Americans and police marriages are terrible, there IS a minority who DO have sustained, good married lives. Some of us actually like a story line of happy, married people, with "normal" problems. I wish the show would allow Stabler to get back with his wife and children and continue to give viewers of this show something different than all the shows out there. There can be so much tension, angst, drama and character growth in portraying a reconciliation--something few shows ever portray unless it is between friends; I think this is because many people don't know how to write a marital reconciliation since the sad truth is divorce is far more common, and few ever personally experience reconciliation once the "d" word is used. Showing this would be something I'd expect from L&O:SVU.
With all that said--It would be 'realistic' to a point if Stabler and Benson got together because so many police officers DO have affairs/relationships with their partner or another police officer or someone in law enforcement, like a radio dispatcher. The reason for this is not that cops are promiscuous people, although there are a few as in any profession. These officers can spend more time with each other than they do with their own families and they lose touch with being "real" or a "civilian". They feel that only another person in law enforcement can ever really "understand" what they are going through so they naturally identify with each other. Shared situations of great stress bond people, that is why police, fire...etc feel that they are a brotherhood.
Also, many cops suffer from "hypervigilance" which is a sustained emotional condition that basically has them on high alert--like being on an adrenaline high, and this keeps them on their toes when they are working. When they come home, they are still in this "cop mode" and many don't know that they are acting this way let alone how to come down from this mindset. This to me would be a better reason as to why Stabler and Benson would get together than any other stereotypical-done-to-death-romance-between-hot-colleagues-because-we've-run-out-of-friction-and-tension-situations reason.
L&O:SVU has had a lot of original script ideas and I commend the writers for these. It isn't easy to be that creative in a world where every story has already been told. I hope that when they run out of original content that they won't turn to formulaic tv and just end the show on a high note and be remembered for groundbreaking entertainment.

Well Elliot and Olivia can(and hopefully will) get together, it'd just have to be the last episode of the show.

I'd love to have Benson and Stabler together, but I do think that it would really change the dynamics of the show. The same thing was an issue on the show JAG (for any broken-hearted fans out there), and they had to end the show before they got the two main characters together. It's a trade-off.

I think it would be great if the show wrote the two of them in having an affair and Benson's baby was written in as Stabler's, then throw Stabler's ex- wife in the mix would make an interesting story line, but then again it would make it like any other soap opera i guess and tgis show is soooo much better than any soap.I love Olivia so please get rid of the new lady she just doesn't fit at all .

I'm definately on the Elliot/Olivia bandwagon BUT not until the producers have decided that the show has run its course and it is time to end it. Then they can get together. I know, its JAG all over again, but there's no other way that I can see their relationship moving beyond professional. Having that happen while the show is due to continue would change it too much.
Of course, I don't mind reading shippy fanfic to keep me going for now!

Elliot and Olivian should just remain friends on the show. I for on would like Elliot to get back with his wife Kathy. It was nice finally having a show with a happilly married character who believed in marriage and his vows and not go the way of other shows by having affairs or getting divorced. Elliot was the only character of the main characters who was married. All the others are divorced, single or widowed. It was nice to have a character go home to his family at night. I do think they should give Olivia a love interest, but not Elliot.

I agree actually , to add to my earlier comment that Benson and Stabler should have a strong relationship, that maybe/ subtly crosses the line- but not take over the show, I think no matter what they decide to do wiht them, Olivia should have a relationship- love life. Come on now, the poor girl is always work, work , work!!!!! Lets see her hook up... maybe wiht novak- that would different, no one would see that one coming !

If they hooked up, it would change the whole focus of the show. They have to stay "just friends" so that it stays a "cop drama", not a "relationship drama", like most of the other shows on tv now.
yeah.. i agree but its probably going to end the show dramatic like one of them dying!!
