HCT, you tease!
Please share HOW you gained such clarity & WHY you feel this way? I don't have time to watch half of S3 before tomorrow night & I would LOVE to hear your thoughts!
Sorry! Let me break it down, not so scientifically, and definitely not very meticuously:
In Gay Witch Hunt, Jim looks longingly out the window -- "You can't beat that view . . right?" He knows whatever body of water that is (I'm no geography whiz) its a poorman's Pam. The view in Scranton beats all. Conclusion: He loves Pam.
In The Convention: Jim wants to call Pam before anyone when he sees Angela in Dwight's room. He wants to ask Michael how she is. He is shocked and saddened (not angry) to hear she has a date. He admits to Michael that he had to leave because he couldn't be around her. Conclusion: He Loves Pam.
In The Coup: He looks his happiest recalling playing "Predendonitis" with Pam. He calls Karen a psychopath. Conclusion: He loves Pam, and Karen is definitely not making the best of first impressions.
In Grief Counseling: He has to work to get a postitive response from Karen to his "playing around" at work. She balks at his authority, she wants to give up after just a small effort, she opts to go back to work. Pam would never have taken that stance. In fact, she spends most of her day throwing a bird funeral together. Conclusion: Pam is far better suited to Jim's lifeview and interests.
In The Initiation: Need I say anything really about the phone call? He is shocked to hear her voice, but the pleasantries abound, and they fall into an intimate, rousing and hilarious conversation as easily as if they had never been apart. He is saddened to think she has to let him go. Conclusion: He still loves Pam, and this is very evident to him as he leaves his office.
In Diwali:OK, there's not much love in this one. But we do see the genesis of Pam's "dorky dancing" which is very cute indeed -- and we understand why Jim loves her for it. Conclusion: Because he loves her for dancing like that, he loves her.
In Branch Closing: His first thoughts of the Scranton branch are of Pam. He wants to know if she will be joining him. He fights his feelings with that gorgeous fingering through his hair, only to realize that he really does want to be near her again. I know, he makes the huge mistake of telling Karen she should come too, but think about this: He is not sure what Karen will do, whether or not she will be offered the job or even take it. But yet, he still makes the decision to return to Scranton, buffer or not. He does not decide to go because he WILL have a buffer, he decides to go because he knows he does want to see Pam again. He just uses Karen as a buffer later when he gets there because he is scared. Conclusion: He still loves Pam.
In The Merger: That smile when they hug!

Need more proof? He doesn't know where he stands with her. But you can tell he would want to stand WITH her. Conclusion: He loves Pam. ALOT.
In The Convict: We hear him admit to being with Karen, but he doesn't looked thrilled, doesn't say a word about her personally, and won't talk about it openly, not even to the cameras. Conversely, he is full of animation and happiness when talking about PAM - her likes and dislikes. Their interactions amid the Andy prank -- are really about pranking Andy, not Pam, and they are the happiest Jim looks all day. Conclusion: He still loves Pam.
In A Benihana Christmas: The famous rebound speech: "You just had a rebound. Which dont get me wrong, can be a really fun distraction, but when its over you're left thinking about the girl you really like, the one that broke your heart." Oh, so true, James! And he cant help but love to be sucked into her prank on Dwight. Conclusion: He loves Pam! (and knows Karen is just a rebound)
In Back From Vacation: I hate to sound like Stanley, but watch his pauses. This is something I have noticed in alot of these episodes. When they are talking in the break room and she says "Also" (and when he is waiting for her to tell him what his Christmas present is in ABC) the look of anticipation, fear, and excitement on his face is extraordinary. He never knows if what she is going to say is going to be "the thing" he is longing to hear, and it gets his riled up every time. Its so amazing to watch that! Conclusion: He still loves Pam.
That is as far as my mini-marathon has gotten me. I have to clean the house and shop tomorrow so I may not have time to finish before the new episode, but I am still overly anticipatory for all the great JAM that is upcoming! He loves her! Never fear!
