I LOVE how you quoted and responded to yourself.

This is what John does to us! He drives us to distraction.

It's the chest hair that caught my attention. I don't think I've ever seen that side of JK before.

2 minutes until The Convention!!! Also, they are playing Diversity Day right after it here in Canada. Oh happy day!!!!

Lucky Canadians!

I'm off to watch the Convention...poor, sad, lonely Jim!! Pam will make it up to him this summer!!

Why I Love "The Convention" by Beeswax Not Yours Inc.

1. It is a Karen-free episode

2. Jim isn't wearing a tie (and chest hair is visible, which I didn't notice before)

3. Jim is drinking red wine and a cosmo. I'm going to chase that feeling.

4. Jim's face after mention of Pam's date and Pam's face after the phone call. They love each other sooooooo much!!!!!

5. "I went on a date. It wasn’t a love connection. I think when I like someone again, I’ll just kinda know"

He IS purrrrfect! AHHH Jim Halpert...I also loved when he told Michael it was good to see him! He really meant it!

I also loved when he started to ask about Pam...but changed it to Toby! We know he didn't give two hoots about Toby...

Okay guys, I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet. I rewatched the end of The Convention. OMG, I love this show! This is what Michael said in his TH at the end after Jim said they were friends:

"When you meet that someone special, you'll just know. Because a real relationship, it can't be forced. It should just come about effortlessly."

Can we say foreshadowing of JAREN???

I wub.gif this show & JAM!!! YAY, 1-week anniversary!!!

And notice that right after she says that, they cut directly to a shot of Jim coming out of an elevator. It's like they were trying show us that she does know that she loves Jim. Love it!!

Sorry about the distraction girls... continue posting about JK's chest hair. sigh.

Okay I watched the date scene another time (or two). If someone else said this already, I'm sorry. I noticed that when Pam says "everybody loves him" and they cut back to Jim, he nods his head ever so slightly - I didn't notice it before.

Also tonight is The Convention. A very interesting choice to come right after The Job. I think this is the TPTB bringing it back full circle back to Pam going on a date. I also think it is significant as a hint that in fact the convention was the first time Jim learned of Pam calling off the wedding. That's an old debate we haven't kicked around in a dog's age.

I am quoting myself here as my post got caught in the midst of the other discussion. Does anyone want to revisit the debate on when Jim found out Pam had called off the wedding? I've always contended that it was at the convention.

This was a perfect ep to follow The Job. Jim confesses about why he left Scranton, it's Pam's first 'first date' in 9 years, we see glimpses of unbalanced Jan starting to come through with her not-so-innocent hit on Josh.

I'm sorry, but I honestly have to say that Jim is so smokin' hot in The Convention, he may be my favorite Jim of all the Jims.

1. His real hair

2. Chest hair

3. Dwight's got a hooker!

4. The look on his face after "Ain't no party like a Scranton party..."

5. "You're a great boss."

6. "I left because of Pam."

7. "And then he spoke."

8. The look he gives the camera as he's heading toward Michael's "party" in 308

9. And, yes, the main reason I was watching....no Karen in sight!!

Nice list!

I just loved seeing Jim's real hair in this. Seriously, when was the last time we saw his real hair? I just can't recall.

That is perfect Jim hair for me. Still a little long, but short in the front so we can see those beautiful eyes.

Is it wrong that I wish JK was in the latest edition of Teen Beat Magazine so I could put his picture up in my locker?

Hm, how about a very friendly discussion? If so, I'll throw in my two cents. I think Jim already knew that she had called off the wedding. I don't have a whole lot of proof, just a hunch based on the following:

Jim overhears Michael say "Have fun on your date tonight". I know Pam and Roy didn't go out a lot, but (correct me if I'm wrong all you lucky marrieds) married people have dates, right? In Jim's mind, if he hadn't known that she had called off the wedding, Michael could just as easily have been referring to Pam going out that night with Roy. I think that the hurt we see in his face is (I hope this makes sense...it does in my head! laugh.gif ) compounded. On top of her not being married to Roy, she's dating someone else.

Also, in The Initiation, we find out that Jim has kept in touch with people in the Scranton branch (calling Kevin about fantasy football... and I dont think that was just a ruse to call Pam). I doubt the news was out there for long until Jim found out about it. Sadly, this just makes me realize how much he was truly suffering after she rejected him. Imagine that Jim found out about her calling off the wedding, and his hopes probably went sky high if only in the back of his mind. No matter how much his head told him not to, his heart probably started hoping all over again. And then as each day passes... and she doesn't call... his hope dies and his hurt grows even more. She hasn't just rejected Roy, she's rejected Jim too all over again.

*whew* okay, all that to say that I think by The Convention he already knew.

I honestly think someone clued him in about the non-wedding. I could have been Kevin. I think he looked shocked when Michael talked about her date because he had probably pushed thoughts of Pam so far back in his mind and this brought them all back again.

I just think if he had just found out he would have asked more questions of Michael.

I would put his picture right up there next to my Michael J. Fox one from 7th grade...oh, I had a Tom Selleck from the Magnum PI days as well!!

I am going to have visions of Jim Halpert dancing through my head tonight! With his convention hair (both chest and head)!

^^^QOE, I think he knew about Pam calling off the wedding too, but because he was in Stamford and cut off from Scranton, he was able to think about it abstractly. The impact of it all didn't sink in until he heard that Pam was going on a date. At that moment, he was forced to face the reality of it all and he had to suddenly deal with his feelings--not to mention with the cameras rolling. Until seeing Michael and Dwight, Jim was pretty cut off from Scranton--out of sight, out of mind, so he was probably able to supress his emotions. At the Convention, all his pain resurfaced.

I know this is a little off topic, but I am soooo excited, I have to share!

The Summer of JAM is coming to fruition in Canada. Starting June 4 there will be back-to-back episodes of The Office every Monday in the Summer on Canada's Global tv. They also seem to play a S3 ep then a S2 ep (tonight was The Convention and Diversity Day). It was so Jammerific!!!!

Anyways, back to chest hair, The Convention, Teen Beat and cancelled wedding revelations.

Oh Bees you are SO lucky! I know I have them on DVD and I can watch them anytime I want, but I'm just dying for the day when it finally goes into syndication. I have read more fan fic in the past week than I care to admit (I've basically read everything set after The Job). That, along w/ watching lots of reruns & S1-2, will be the only way I will survive this summer!

That's one of those Office questions never answered. I think b/c he was in touch w/ Kevin (fantasy football) & we now know Kevin says pretty much whatever he feels like saying (commenting on how much Jim used to hang out @ Pam's desk & comparing Pam to KF), I'm confident that Jim heard about the wedding. (So horrible that she didn't tell him herself, but that's in the past!) I think his shocked/upset look was b/c Pam was dating. That alone must've killed him. But it's all in the past now!!!!! Thank YOU for posting that pic of JK! Very niiiiice. I will be thinking of it for long tim.

Let me kick around the debate a little bit -- there was a thread around last week or so (I looked for it --every page, and could not find it) where someone asserted that he knew the order in which the episodes were supposed to air. The Convention was not the 2nd episode of the season, instead it came right before Initiation. I dont know what happened to that thread, but I wanted to watch the eps in that order -- so if anyone remembers or sees that post/thread, please share here. Anyway, all of that to say that I definitely think that Jim knew about Pam and Roy. There are way too many reasons to post them all here I think.

time for a shameless plug of my only thread - Make Your Argument -- go there and list !0 reasons why you think Jim knew about Pam's single status before the Convention.

Off Topic: I tried to convert a friend last night. I brought my DVD's over and I successfully got her (and her husband) to watch the first five epis of S1. They loved it, they laughed, but NO WAY am I going to brainwash my friend or her husband to let her go with me to the convention. RATS! Not even gonna approach the subject EVER!

Anyway, I hadn't watched S1 in so long (except I did watch The Alliance a couple days ago--part of the "homework" assignment,) I was noticing how different everyone looked and acted.

Pam looked way frumpier than now and she was so serious! Michael was heavier and had less hair. And Jim! He was so cute! He was dough-ier looking, which was just so adorable and his hair was so awesome in S1. He looked so normal and everyday back then, but in a really good way. He was still sexy then. But now, he is sexy hot in a less attainable way. It's just amazing to look back at the transformations..especially Jim. The man can do no wrong! wub.gif *SWOON*

So well put OO! I love the bolded parts especially. Right now I'm so excited because I'm on the west coast and haven't watched it yet. When I do, I'll be looking for all of what you just pointed out in that scene! I actually love hearing an episode dissected before I watch it! (My summer just got a whole lot better... you guys are awesome!) Too many exclamation points! laugh.gif

Hm. I'll have to see what I can find, because I was really looking forward to watching the episodes "in order" too. I wonder if it was merged somewhere. Anyways, that could really put all of this into perspective, thanks for bringing that into the debate! Just for that, I will post in your Argument thread. (Ha. Like I really needed a reason.)

I lent my mom and sister both my DVD sets, and they've only returned season 1, so that's what I've been watching lately. And I was thinking the same thing. I love seeing how much everyone has changed, but I think Jim has gotten hot in an unattainable way too. I kind of miss season 1 and 2 Jim, who really felt like the kind of guy you could run into at Starbucks. Now,don't get me wrong, season 3 Jim is still hot. Sexy hot, but still...

And I know I'm going to catch some flack for this (especially here) but I also kind of feel that season 3 Jim would kind of be out of Pam's league in real life. *gasp!* I know, I know! It's bad, right? But I've thought it, so there it is. I hope season 4 Jim goes back to who he was and reminds me of why they're a perfect match. Because I KNOW they are. Bees, I'm ready to accept whatever punishment you have in store for me.

^^^ laugh.gif I go to Starbucks almost everyday and I have YET to run into anyone who even remotely looks like Jim!! wink.gif J/K, I know exactly what you mean!

BTW, Just a little Chicago aside: Speaking of Starbucks, I occasionally see Harold Ramis at Starbucks and it takes every anti-stalking ounce of energy I have in me NOT to approach him and ask him about all our "friends"!

Found it! Here is the thread,

and here is the list of season 3 episodes "in order":

1) Gay Witch Hunt
2) The Coup (3)
3) Grief Counseling (4)
4) The Convention (2)
5) The Initiation

I haven't watched some of those in a while, so I'm not sure how they would effect the debate, but I'm now taking this on as my homework for the weekend. happy.gif

^^^Why would TPTB air them out of order? It makes sense that The Convention should come second, I wonder why they did that.

*EDIT*

Now I'm confused. Was The Convention aired SECOND, but really supposed to be FOURTH? or vise versa??

Thanks! (How did I miss it?) huh.gif I am definitely watching it in order this weekend. In my mind I can see it making a big difference. I always thought it seemed strange that Jim was being thrown in company with Scranton folk so early in the season. If you are thinking about it in terms of formula, it would make more sense to stretch out that type of episode for about four weeks, then play up the fact that Jim will be face-to-face with some of his former co-workers. I think because Jim never really came back, he just seemed so unreachable and unattainable to all of us. He's BAACK baby...(like Michael) and we all can thank our own little Pam Beesley for that. He was back the second Pam said she was free for dinner. I'm glad we won't see standoffish Jim any more. That Jim just breaks my heart. I want Pam to mess his hair up...and roll his sleeves up. (And it wouldn't hurt if she unbuttoned his shirt a bit to show Beeswax some of his chest hair!) blush.gif

Here! Here!

I think you are right. The S2 Jim made every woman around him feel special. In S3 he had an force field around him to try and keep Pam and anyone that had to do with Pam away.

The shields are down now and Pam can proceed with her attack!

I agree Queen, Jim did feel more attainable back then. I think it's a lot to do with attitude more than looks though. This season Jim went from that funny and sweet guy who didn't really know how hot he was (or really care), to that kind of cocky and sarcastic "too cool for school" sort of guy we all new back in High School. His character changed a lot. I know that this change was important for the plot development this season, but it's kind of sad. I'm hoping that we get the return of our old Jim next season.

Also, I feel that during seasons 1 and 2 we were sort of "along for the ride" with Jim. Back then we were really keyed into his thoughts and emotions. Because this season has been more about Pam, however, we have not really got to "spend time" with Jim the way we used to (Don't get me wrong, I have loved this time spent getting to know FNB!!!) All I'm saying is that Jim has become a mystery this season rather than a friend. We were really put in Pam's shoes... hence he was very unattainable to both us and to her.

And yes, Sometimes I do feel like Jim might be out of Pam's (not Jenna's) league, but I think that makes their love story even sweeter. Pam is not the type of girl that stops traffic but she is still beautiful. It's more of an inner light with her. She is really beautiful on the inside. You can tell that Jim is really in love with all of Pam (not just her apperance). He sees the entire package. To him she is the most beautiful girl in the world. wub.gif

I just love how even though Pam is kind of plain and mousy, the whole office still thinks she is hot. They are alway referencing this on the show. There is just something about her.

Edit: It looks like sedimentary got to my point already while I was posting. LOL.

Okay, I'm feeling better about this already. I agree that it has a lot to do with attitude, but I'd also like to see him just a tad...um...doughier. He just looks a little too fit for me. Yeah, I forget how Michael was describing Pam on the Booze Cruise...(I'm pretty sure it was about looks), but Jim's reply was "She's warm and funny..." There's a lot to be said about that.

LOL. It's okay I can forgive Roy after this season. If it wasn't for him being such a jerk (at the art show and at Poor Richards) Pam would have never really been pushed to grow a pair and confront Jim in BG. Plus, lets not forget his little pep talk to her in the Negotiation.

What I'm trying to say is, thank you Roy for digging your own grave and, therefore, paving the way to Jam.
