Fine this is where I stand.

I really think that Jim and Pam are going to date and help eachother become who they need to be for other people. I really think that GD is going to go down the path where the last scene is Jim and Pam being friends but going separate ways knowing that they will always be important to one another.

I also think that if Jim and Pam are not friends and do not build there friendship back up this season then JAM will fail. Jim is to fragile to handle anything but baby steps, and that means that he needs to focus on himself. He just made a big life choice he is not going to be making any more anytime soon.

Now, I think that if they did get engaged.. which agian I do not see GD ever doing that, at least for this season it is not right for Jim or Pam. if they do get engaged we will not see the proposal, nor will we see the wedding that is way to sitcom and The Office does not do that.

Also I do not know if Jim and Pam will actually be together next season it is just one date.. only one date.

Now all that said.. what I think will happen in the office and what happens in my mind are two different things.

but all I know is that I would like Jim and Pam to date, but right now neither Jim, Pam, nor the office is ready for an engagement anytime soon.. if there is one then I have to say that they will have jumped the shark.

You broke my heart.

I don't want them to use eachother for the benefit of someone else. I think that was Roy and Karen's job. Roy and Karen made it so Jim and Pam could be the people they need to be to be together. They will be together, Pam Halpert. They will. They will.

Don't go breakin my heart...

Absolutely ^^. GD did not take us through S2 & S3 for nothing. I do not see them missing the boat this time.

You could tell her that she deserves it and tell her that even though she is there for a short time, that the impact she is leaving is one that will stay with your family forever.

I think too often people just don't tell eachother that they appreciate the impact they have in their lives. I walk my daughter to school every day and there were these two brothers who would pass by on their bikes and they always said excuse me and they always watched out for eachother and were always very polite. At an end of the year school function I saw them with their parents and I told the parents (in front of the boys) that I see their boys every day and they should be proud because they are very good, kind and polite boys. They were so shocked, but you could just tell they were also so pleased to hear that. I just thought it would be nice for them to hear how their boys behave when they're not around...and the boys, I am sure, got a pat on the back for a stranger complimenting them!!

Good for you! Those parents will be so pleased that they will tell that story for 20 years!! We have 3 boys and we take a vacation every year and fly often, and whenever we board a plane we get those looks like "Oh please God, don't let this family sit near me", and a couple of times we have had people tell us how well behaved our boys were, and it is such a relief and soooo encouraging to hear those words.

I think I may have my son write a note too, to let her know how much we appreciate her! Maybe even write her a story (one of his favourite things).

I have to agree. I think that Karen and Roy were the ones that helped Jim and Pam ready for eachother. Now Jim isn't ready for an all out relationship but he knows he loves Pam and Pam loves him. The show has shown that their connection is so freaking strong that somehow if they dated and decided to break up it would be something that no one has seen.

Hmmmm...interesting theory.

I just think that if Angela and Dwight can be together, so can Jim and Pam. Also, I look to The Office Uk for inspiration. I just know Dawn and Tim are together right now, happy as clams.

Ricky and Greg have always said that Jim and Pam are the heart of the Office and I as realistic as The Office is, it is tv.

I guess I'll happily live in my fanfic world all summer until someone snaps me back into reality.

I won't be snapping you back to reality, because I'm in la la land with you! Oh by the way, I see you got a copy of Mean magazine from EH. I went to see if I could find it today at Barnes and Noble and was looked at like I was a freak. They checked their computers and they haven't received their issues yet...said to try another store. Is it as good in person as it is on the computer?? Do JK's lips taste better on the screen or on paper?

Truly, if I raise 3 Jim Halperts, I can die a happy woman!! (they already want to style their hair like him, not on purpose, that's just the way they like it, shaggy and hanging down) Thankfully they have a Halpert daddy to teach them how to treat and respect women!

Yes I really want Jim and Pam to be together forever. I want them to get married and have kids.. just not during the show.

I am living in happy JAMMY world until the start of S4 where I am sure GD will do a good job of snapping us back into reality.

Jenna has even said she does not want Jim and Pam to end up together....but that being said

I want what is best for the characters. Right now slow is best for Jim and Pam. Jim needs to heal and find himself this season he can not get engaged when he still does not know him self or he has not come back. So maybe next season we will see them engaged but we will not see it happen.

Ok ladies, bedtime for Bees.

I will go to sleep dreaming of a S4 premiere ep with Jim and Pam getting married and then having quintuplets for the Feb sweeps.

Good night sweet princesses of JAM.

Hmm..PH, that is an interesting theory, but I don't think it will play out that way because, as others have said, this is TV, and we've already suffered enough through S3. Yes, Jim has been hurt, but now he is free to date his "soulmate". These two understand each other so well. I believe the awkwardness will quickly dissipate, and soon they will be back to their old selves. Yes, Jim was nervous asking her out but look at his little smile as he says, "It's a date." He's happy. He knows how Pam feels about him now since she spelled it out at the beach. Her honesty will help him feel comfortable around her again.

Your scenario reminds me of all the negativity that was floating around the JP and a lot of the fanfic prior to the finale, i.e. Pam's too late; Jim's too hurt to forgive her or give her another chance; he's moved on with Karen. I agree that in real life, sometimes these things do happen. Jim may have stayed with Karen, moved to NY, married, and then sometime around his 40's, realized that he had totally lost "who he was" and ended up in divorce court. I speak from experience; having recently been divorced after being married for many years, too many, actually. So Jim gets points in my book for having the guts to turn away from a "sure thing" to try again for true happiness.

I believe that everyone involved in this show realizes that Pam and Jim are made for each other. Season 3 was necessary for Pam's growth. In a way, Jim spent the whole season floating along in "vampire" mode until finally Pam's "I wish you would" made him realize that finally, finally, she was giving him his desired answer to his question on CN. Even though he continued on with his plans in NY, Pam's answer had to be stewing in the back of his mind. It was finally the yogurt lid note and the CFO's question about the future that convinced Jim that he would be making a big mistake if he stayed on his present course.

Boy, that was a long post. Sorry so wordy. Sometimes thoughts come to mind, and you just gotta let 'em out.

rolling.gif I am sorry that last part just made me laugh.

Jenna said in an interview that she was not sure that she wanted Jim and Pam to end up together, that they would date. She said they would not be apart longer then they should be and not be together longer than they should be. JK also said that as long as they follow the characters and do not force them together that he will play Jim, but that if JAM seems like they need to break up that JK wants them to do so.

What I think and what I want are two different things. But this season there will be no JAM engagement.. I might even put my money on JAM not having another date until VD...becasue Jim might want to just be friends but know that in the future they will be MUCH more than that.

Now what I want to happen is just to see many happy wonderful small JAM moments.. but like SB said, I do not even know if I think they are together yet. It is still open for them not to be and I think that the reality is that it could be a reality. I do not think GD would do that though.

I still think they belong together.. just they need to take it slow. Jim has to find himself and they have to restablish their friendship before anything else major happens.!

Well done Pam! Even if I didn't agree with everything you said (um...which I do, by the way) I totally applaud you for taking a controversial stance and wording it so well. And yeah, I do agree with a lot of what you said. I just can't imagine that we'll ever see Jim and Pam get engaged, or get married on the show because like you said...too sitcom-y. And I hate to use the F-word, but it would break my heart more for The Office to turn into Friends than for Jim and Pam to go their separate ways. '

I know GD has said that Jim and Pam are the heart of the show, but more than that, he has always maintianed that The Office will be as true to life as possible. I actually always thought that them being the heart of the show was more of a reference to the compassion, humor, and genuine love and friendship that they showed to their co-workers in the face of the lunacy that surrounds them. Anyways, Jenna Fischer herself (who is pro-Jam!) said somewhere that she's talked to GD about the possibility of Jim and Pam not ending up together in the long run. So it is a possibility.

Bottom line is... I believe Jim and Pam belong together. They are two pieces of a puzzle that fit together more snugly than any other pieces could. But like real life, sometimes things just don't happen the way they should. I have faith in the writers that we have a great season ahead of us, but I'm also realistic. I don't expect making out in the stairwell, roof-top proposals, or turning the breakroom into a lactation room for Pam (gross!).

Well I hope you are right!

Look, I just would be really upset if they were engaged this season. That is to fast. Jim still needs to heal and "come back". I actually think SB is going to address this topic in the JP with part 3.

I never said that I wanted it, I just said that it might happen, I also think that JAM might get engaged.. but I really do not see that happening anytime soon. ( and I am not the only one)

Jim and Pam I think are ment for eachother. But who knows what the rest of the people think.

This is TV so I hope that lets GD keep it a happy ending, but he has said many times that his happy ending and the one we want are NOT the same.

I dream of that as well Bees!!

Oh JAM princesses!! I love that name! biggrin.gif

rolling.gif I am sorry that last part just made me laugh.

See how you are...I make you laugh and you make me cry.

I never even considered that they were not together. That horrible thought never crossed my pathetically small mind. I am going off to cry into my pillow...

Ah, Pam, great minds think alike. Right? Or at least mildly-smart minds agree with and piggy-back on the brilliant posts of other minds. happy.gif I can't say that I would have had the courage to come out and say that here, but I also love that we can share different opinions in here without getting into all-out brawls. This truly is an amazing thread!

Anyways, I have to say that unfortunately I'm also schizophrenic on the issue of them ending up together. One moment I can see them going their separate ways...always caring deeply for each other and matured by their experiences, and the next I see the show ending in a reunion-type episode where everyone is a few years older and they are happily married. I don't know what to say. I can't really see that far down the road, but that's another reason why I love this show. So many things I could never have anticipated! These writers are brilliant, and I love that they keep us on our toes.

Sed, I hope you don't really get too worried over this. Even though I like to stay realistic when it comes to Jam, I honestly believe they will be/are dating. The problem (IMHO, at least) is whether or not we will be privy to it. If Jim and Pam don't decide to keep their relationship a secret (from their co-workers and the cameras) for as long as possible, they will at least be very discreet and modest. But my opinion could change in two minutes, so don't rely on me... laugh.gif

That's why this is JAM therapy, for those of us who doubt and need help. S4 will not be that simple, this show has a life of at least 4 more years. We do not want a repeat of friends. When Ross and Rachel went on a break, that's when I stopped watching. It got sooooo annoying with their fighting and tension. I would much rather see them take things slowly with Jim and Pam with no engagement or marriage until the series finale, the flirtation is what made S1 & S2 so much fun, I want a little secrecy for S4, just like Dwangela, I'm not ready for the whole office to know Jim and Pams business!! I agree with you guys that they will be dating, but will be discreet about it. They know the cameras follow their every move. Hopefully we'll see lots of S2 glances, smiles and giggling, maybe once in a while a subtle touch or handhold. We won't see smooching on the elevator or Jim grabbing Pam's butt while she's getting in her car. THAT would be too sitcomy and totally unlike the way they're portrayed on the show.

As far as GD surprising us, who really expected the finale to end with Jim asking her out on a date? We were betting on another kiss, a move back to the old desk, smiling at each other. But a date? No way. The fact that the word "date" was used, implies that it's more than just friends, otherwise he would have just asked her out for coffee after work. What was shown during and after the interview convinced me that JAREN was ended and Jim was on his way back to start a new romantic relationship with Pam. wub.gif

it is just one date. They could agree to just be friends until Karen leaves. They could agree to be just friends until Jim comes back. ( granted I do not think that will happen)

remember Karen is another factor that has yet to be delt with.. and she IS coming back to Scranton. there are a lot of unknows right now and we can not just assume something. all I know is that they went out on ONE date.

I do think they will persure a romantic relationship sometime this season if not from the start. They will just take it very very slow. And NO engagement.. JIM IS NOT READY! wink.gif

I have had a thought since I first saw The Job, and this seems as good a time and place as any to put it into the ether. If Jim and Pam are dating in season four, they may be forced to hide their relationship. The events of The Job give Dunder Mifflin reason to clamp down on their fraternization policy. Jan's meltdown was associated with her relationship with Michael (a subordinate). New boss Ryan has every reason to enforce the policy to protect himself from Kelly. Ryan also knows about DWANGELA and could get some revenge, causing Angela to be hyper vigil of Pam-Pong. So if dating becomes a big taboo at DM, Jim's #2 status will force him and Pam to settle for longing glances and limited contact while at work. This could add tension to the show and keep those small JAM moments meaningful even if they are together. Toby could be very busy next season.
