Karen has already kind of given Jim the type of stimulus that Katy gave him that (with Katy) jerked him out of his funk. The five long nights of talks, the "do you still have feelings for her?", the inevitable talking after the Roy debaucle --- all of those things were far more pushy on Karen's part, than Katy's "Do you think that will ever be us? Why did you even bring me here?"

This just goes to show that Jim's commitment to making his relationship with Karen work goes a little deeper than the one with Katy did.

Sorry if that bums you out. But I dont think it means he wont't leave Karen, just that it wont be from the same impetus for which he dumped Katy. Karen has already gone above and beyond that.

No, this doesn't necessarily bum me out. But I have rethought what I said and I totally see the merit in your analysis! It makes sense. Karen herself has already made the "I'm here to stay" commitment even if she hasn't said it. Just look at the "do you still have feelings for her". Staying with Jim even after that says it all.

Just FYI.. brace yourself before reading SB's post on the JP......

HereComesTrouble is right that it was a bit disingenuous to compare the Katy-Karen relationships. Karen obviously has more staying power than Katy. It seems Jim was largely looking to use Katy to make Pam jealous. Karen is the rebound girl. (Everybody is now reciting the speech from ABC in their heads.) My main point in bringing up Katy was that when the Karen relationship comes to a decision point I don't think Jim will simply take the path of least resistance and stay with Karen because it is easier. Jim does still have a sense of his own self. He will choose what he wants.

I was getting the sense that the big fear on this board is Jim will find himself like the frog in the pot. (A frog has the ability to adjust to its surroundings, being cold blooded and all. If you were to drop a frog in pot of hot water the frog will jump right out. However, if you place a frog in a pot of lukewarm water and gradually raise the heat the frog will adjust and adjust until it is boiled.) Booze Cruise provided the jolt for Jim to decide Katy wasn't what he wanted and he took quick action. So far Karen has been successful in not moving too fast. To be honest up to this point I am not sure how much Karen has been able to move the relationship forward. She seems rather to have been trying to hold on to what she already had. (Hard to say, anyone able to shed light on this?) I don't think Jim and Karen have reached a decision point in their relationship since they moved to Scranton.

A decision point will be coming, I don't know what form it will take. A Pam declaration, a chance to move up the corporate ladder, or Karen pushing Jim to make a formal commitment. Whatever the jolt, Jim will decide what he wants, make his jump, and avoid becoming poached frog.

Brilliant post, unshun. Loved the frog analogy.

I think we all just want our old Jim back, but can that happen without Pam? It remains to be seen.

I have said before that I think the only thing keeping Karen in the relationship is Jim's dependence on her. Not necessarily like neediness, but the fact that she is the only one really working at their relationship. It's almost a mothering. Is Jim drawn to this because of his emotional "scars" (Pam's rejection), or is this all just a comfort zone (however new it may be, he can trust this zone)? I'm even thinking that Karen is afraid to say anything extra on the matter. Maybe she even senses that one small action (whether it be Pam or Karen) could tip the scales.

Ok, I know I'm the JAM Therapy leader, but they're going to get together on the show, right? Sometimes I get scared about JAM.

Greg Daniels, if you are reading this (and I just know you are), can you just PM me and tell me everything is going to be ok?

I am right there with you Beeswax! I want them together so bad that the thought of them not getting together just makes me want to sob!!

That being said, I just truly, truly believe that even the writers are rooting for Jim and Pam...they are telling a believable story about believable characters and I just don't think tragedy is the story they are trying to sell. I think in the end, even Karen will want them together. (OK, that may be going a bit far rolleyes.gif ). But I do have an incredible amount of hope!! I keep picturing the jinx scene and the "hi" and I just think there is too much there to just throw away!

I know, I know. It will happen.

I just really hope there is a little JAM scene on Thursday. Just a babyspoonful is all I need to keep me going and to convince me that JAM is not just a figment of my imagination.

Oh, before I forget, Chapter 17 of Squirrel is up!!!! It's really good and it did lift my spirits!

ITA, Beeswax, esp. after last week. We need/deserve some JAM in this ep, but we will not get discouraged if we don't get it. Keep remembering what happened at the end of S2 - it got worse before it got better. (I am spoiler-free so this is all speculation.) But my fingers are crossed that we see more silver linings than clouds!!! wink.gif

I think we're all feeling like Pam this season, Jim is so distant and far away. We want our old Jim back and we want some JAM STAT. STAT means now!!

I'd honestly be happy if they were in the same room together for this next ep.

I have basically decided that I'm not pinning any of my hopes or nightmares on Product Recall. I really don't feel like I can base any of my speculation about Jim and Pam's relationship on an episode where Jim was out of the office for most of the episode! I know it looked like he shut her out, and to an extent he did (in the pranks, and in the conference room), but really there wasn't enough to say where they are in their relationship. Jim *may* have pulled back from Pam to an extent, but it's really hard to tell when he's trying to be in Dwight-mode, or when he's gone for most of the rest of the episode. Let's hope that the next episode will give us a clearer picture of where they are. Can't wait for tomorrow night!

Tomorrow is gonna fly by...I am going to run my kids around the park all afternoon...get them good and tired and put everyone to bed early...make sure the DVR is working...watch the show...then when my husband gets home, re-watch it again. Then when he goes to bed, stay up and watch it one more time. AHHH I love Thursdays!! I hope the writers bring back that lovin feelin!

Listen, Beeswax, and everyone else. I plan to keep my expectations low for JAM this week. Less disappointing that way. Remember, we've still got a couple more epis before the finale. I'm cringing, but we may even see more JAREN this week! I know, I know, this is horrible to think about, but we know it will all turn out great in the end for Jim and Pam. So I will enjoy my wine, and laugh, yes, laugh in Karen's face if she tries to flaunt her hold on Jim. Enjoy him now, Filipelli, cause your days in Scranton are numbered. We are packing up the carton of Herr's salt and vinegar chips and getting them ready to ship. And to our girl, Pam, hang in there! The squirrel will soon be yours!

Do we all feel better now? Will we all be all right even if we see minimal or no JAM on Thursday? He11, yeah! biggrin.gif

I have to say I think that this is going to be a setting up episode in terms of Karen.. so not much JAm but good Karen pam interaction and Jim and Karen interaction.. Good meaning progress however that happens..

I have been thinking about JAM so much last nite. Just the pilot episode has been getting to me right at the end, where pam says"he said mixed berries, yeah he's onto me" I just want to scream. If a man notices that your fav yoghurt is mixed berries wouldn't you think maybe he's just alittle into me instead! AGH! I don't know why this is bothering me like it does.

Thank God for this thread

Actualy they start tomorrow! The last two weeks have been my professors trying to give us many papers and things to do so that they can get enough grades. I had 9 papers to write in a week.. and they were not short.

This "week" ( the next 7 days) I hope goes by well and there are no melt downs... if there are, well we will cross that bridge when we come to it!

Side note: Because Karen loves me and she knows just how much I love to analyze her, anyone want to bet how many scenes she will be in this week, seeing as this week is the only week that I can not sit down and analyze her? laugh.gif

I agree! Jim is not responsible for his behavior when he is in character as Dwight

I think the more hopeful Safety Training is a better barometer for the weather in JAMland - I don't think anything really changed between ST and PR that would make Jim act differently, I think it was just bad circumstances with everyone under stress about the watermark, and then Jim out of the office. (Am I being overly optimistic? Probably. But I have to believe that we will get at least a little bit of JAM sweetness tomorrow, so I'm talking myself into it).

Can you guys believe I am not going to be able to watch tomorrow night until around 11pm?? How will I live? Who will watch my TV while I'm out of the house??

I am hurt that you think I would let that go to my head. Yes maybe I thought of making a sig about my greatness. And yes maybe I thought about leaving you peasents for the royal kingdom known as TWoP... but I did not, I am staying right here with you because I love you and you need me, I mean what in the world would you do without me?? wink.gif

Ohh, trash talk and I like it!!! ( esp. when it is directed at Karen wink.gif ) It is on! What shall to wager be?? I win if Karen is in how many scenes?? Rules need to be made!
queenofengland
^ Yes! I love a bet! Should we make it an e-wager or a real wager??? How many scenes do you think she'll be in? My guess is no more than three.

Now I'm even more excited for tomorrow night!

He11, yeah! biggrin.gif

Yes, I feel much better! Thank you for the pep talk! And I am right with you- Karen may get one or two episodes more of happiness... Then it's hit the road, sister! And I actually do like Karen as herself... just not when she's standing in the way of JAM!
QUOTE (scranton temp liz @ May 2 2007, 10:22 AM) *
I have been thinking about JAM so much last nite. Just the pilot episode has been getting to me right at the end, where pam says"he said mixed berries, yeah he's onto me" I just want to scream. If a man notices that your fav yoghurt is mixed berries wouldn't you think maybe he's just alittle into me instead! AGH! I don't know why this is bothering me like it does.

Thank God for this thread

I don't remember that- I'm going to have to watch this again. But I know what you mean- DUH! Here's what I've been pondering all day, as I've been taking care of a sick kid. Don't you think Jim should have kinda known why Pam left Phyllis's wedding with Roy? I mean, I know he's not trusting his instincts... but she was so obviously upset when she saw him dancing with Karen. She got up and left, practically in tears. Should he be so surprised that she left with Roy? HELLO! You'd think that would get his attention too! I know, ScrantonBranch has so many deep reasons as to what he was thinking, but still.

Another thing. They haven't said ANYTHING about Pam's art for quite a while now. Wouldn't it be nice if she drew something for Jim/of Jim & that helped break the ice? (I'm not necessarily asking for the Titanic-like nude scene that someone requested a ways back on this thread... but maybe a nice head shot or something?) Just dreaming.

Side note: Because Karen loves me and she knows just how much I love to analyze her, anyone want to bet how many scenes she will be in this week, seeing as this week is the only week that I can not sit down and analyze her? laugh.gif

To Pam Halpert, best of luck on your finals.

Now about Karen scenes.
Question: What is a Karen scene? I am proposing that she has to talk in it, but the scene does not have to be about her. Just being in the shot, like the the parking lot scenes in Safety Training, does not count.
Question: What about reaction shots? Would her reaction to Creed eating the potato count? (I would count her Thinking Head as a seperate scene.)

Fact: With the exception of seeing the show titles and NBC's episode summaries I am spoiler free.
Fact: This is a supersized episode.
Fact: It is Women's Appreciation.

I predict:
At least one Karen Talking Head.
One scene of Karen being mean to Michael. (Contrasted to the way Pam will also tease Michael about the same behavior. Fact: We will enjoy Pam's joke more.)
Two misc scenes - probably reinforcing how dysfunctional Karen thinks Scranton is (and it is, but she fails to find the fun in dysfunctional)
One Karen/Pam scene where Karen slips the knife in Pam, and throws FNB off her balance. (FNB off her balance is a good thing. Something needs to spur her into action. I think this will start the wheels moving in Pam's head that she is going to have to go after what she wants, it won't just come to her.)

Fact: I just predicted five scenes.

Any thoughts?

shh.. you are going to give my strategy away.. biggrin.gif

I say 6..lets add a Jaren scene to that!!

Lets go by your counts!! if it is 5 or less queen wins 5 or more we win!!

Edit: written in a hurry.. be back later to discuss!

Hopefully, it won't come to that, but we do have our great health care system to fall back on.

Is Jamitis covered on OHIP?

It is, however, it will take 3 months to get the needed MRI to determine exactly where it is located and another 6 months wait for jamotherapy to start. biggrin.gif

I think that Pam is going to shine in this episode and it will be a stark contrast to the dull Karen. However, I don't think Jim will get to enjoy the glow. I am not spoiler free so I will say no more as to why I think this.

Miss Halpert, I'm cool with that! We still need to decide what qualifies a scene, and what the wager is.

Miss?? excuse me?? I think I am a Ms. tongue.gif.. what would Jim say?

Hmm... the loser has to do something with their sig? Or say 10 reasons why they love Karen??

a scene..hmm, well I would say each time the camera moves to another setting? you know like from the kitchen to micheal's office.. what do you think?

I didn't even realize I had done that, now I wish I had.

I actually did have 6 as my original guess. I bumped it down to five, because I wasn't sure how many "scenes" an average episode of The Office would have. However, this is supersized so I am happy to go with you on 6 scenes. A JAREN scene will be very interesting, we haven't had one of those for quite sometime. Where is this relationship, and exactly what is Pam up against?

I like the sig wager. (It is a win/win/win situation for me. If we win the bet well we win, if we lose then will I be forced to figure out how to put one of those sigs together, win. I counted three wins in that sentance win/win/win.)

I was just getting fancy with your name. wink.gif I could call you Pammy.

I like the 10 reasons... idea. Or the loser could have to mention/compliment the winner/s in their next 20 posts.
I think you've had your sig messed with enough. I wouldn't want to take away the freedom of getting creative with your sig when you just got that priveledge back again. tongue.gif

Thanks smile.gif.. and you can call me whatever you want wink.gif just because you let me have my freedom!!

I say where Karen has a look, you know a look, a line, a TH, and when she is "active". that will count, and the scene can be whenever it changes location. like Kitchen to Jim's desk.
Sound good? Man you people are distracting me... dry.gif

Wow. Thats a pretty loose interpretation of what a Karen scene is. I'm good with it, it's just...****. I already know I'm gonna lose.

You know you love it when we distract you, so stop complaining. tongue.gif

Fine we will make it harder.. what is your definition?? We have to make this fair right?

We might need a third party to decide I think we are bias laugh.gif

I do love it, I just.. how am I going to tear myself away all week? huh?
queenofengland
^ No, no I think that's a fair description of a "scene". I'm just panicking now. O god, what have I done? unsure.gif
Pam_Halpert_1
we can make a side one that favors you more... you know make it interesting?

Like Angela scenes?? But I LOVE angela... hmm what shall we do? If you lose we could just go double or nothing on the next episode! ( and we can bet on just one big scene) you know make it harder!!
