Street can't be the new head coach. He hasn't even graduated from high school, much less have a college degree or a teaching certification. The UIL in Texas would have a heart attack if they tried something like that!

Agree - Street as Head Coach is beyond common sense. C'mon folks, give our FNL writers and thinkers more credit than that.

My guess is that Coach will stay.

Not to mention that this is already being discussed in several threads. dry.gif

What if Coach Taylor does leave? WIll they bring in a new head coach, or maybe promote Mack? He sure wants the job.

but how can he even be a QB coach if he hasnt finsihed high school?

Personally I think Jason jumped the gun. At the end with his little speech to the team, like it was his team. Like coach is out and I'm in. Seemed alittle rude.

I figured it was really just a volunteer role. It makes sense if he has no official role. Remember the former player who wanted a job and Taylor said he had no room on his staff? Maybe that was a bit of a tale, but I don't think he can just hire someone on the spot. And like it has been said, a kid in school can't be a HS coach. I don't know the actual rules but I can't believe it would be allowed. Besides, I *think* in Texas, the asst coaches are all teachers too. Only the head coach is just a coach. Maybe that's just our district or not everywhere.

In any case it gave Street some direction and meaning and experience. I liked how that storyline played out.

I believe that before Jason Steet went to those tryouts in Austin they mentioned something about getting his GED.

Didn't Jason also see tattoo girl and tell her that he was the new quarterback coach? I can't remember exactly what it was about that scene, but I got the impression that he was on the payroll. He wouldn't have to have a college degree to be as low on the football team totem poll as that. People are usually hired that have degrees for those positions, but that's generally because the positions are in such high demand and people with degrees generally have more qualifications. As long as there are certified and fully qualified people at the practices, people outside the school district can be hired too. The only thing that makes the situation seem strange to me is the whole graduation/GED thing. If he did get his GED, it wasn't made clear.

I assumed that Jason was talking to the team at the end of the finale because the coach had quit. It wouldn't really make sense for him to talk about the next season. Of course, it would be more likely that one of the more experienced assistants would talk to them about that, but that's artistic license for ya.

I don't have any doubt that Coach will be back. He is the glue that holds the show together. With so many ratings problems, the producers can't afford to get rid of the things they are doing right. Also, Coach cares too much about his family to leave his wife in Dillon working full time and taking care of an infant (and eventually a two year old) while he is off gallivanting to the far reaches of the US to play away games.

I think he tells her that "you are looking at a new assistant coach for the Dillon Panthers" leaves the door open a little.

I do hope that CT stays and Jason remains an assistant (and I'm 99% that's what will happen). However, just picture this...

A scene where Buddy "Can you have kids, Jason?" Garrity realizes that the guy he told off and discouraged his daughter from marrying is the now HEAD COACH for his beloved Panthers. tongue.gif
"Oh, come on now Jason, you know I didn't mean any of that. Want to come over for dinner tonight? Lyla will be there."

Might even make a good scene if Jason remains an assistant.

I know you're just supposing but this is for all the folks that think Jason could actually be head coach.

By no stretch of the imagination could he be head coach. The writers and directors of this show wouldn't try to pull something like that over on the audience. At best, Jason would be considered an assistant, an aide and would be paid as such.

I know we're just having fun speculating but I really think we should leave Jason out of the equation of who would be coach if Eric Taylor really did leave. It's just not plausible.

If he does go, they would either hire a new coach from outside or promote from within - somebody like Mac or Coach Pablo. wink.gif

Uh... are you the moderator? Because the title of the thread is, "Is Coach Taylor leaving?" Not "For everyone who doesn't think Jason Street can be head coach."

Nope, just sharing my opinion like everyone else.

I think that Saracen Fan offers a statement to consider. FNL doesnot have the ratings to remove Coach Taylor. It isn't ready for "spin-offs" and Kyle has said he badly wants to return for season 2. Breaking up the Coach-Tammi couple, or having Coach, Tammi, and Julie all leave the show would be very bad for ratings. Once a number of seasons are done, and someone "wants" to leave the show, well..okay. But this show is fighting for its life, why would the producers have Coach & family leave now????? Makes terrible sense given the shaky ground FNL is on at this time. And having Coach only loosely connected while in Austin...just isn't enough to increase ratings. Leave well enough alone as far as Coach & family are concerned. And pray for ratings increase in first 6 episodes of season 2. Do everything possible to increase ratings....then in season 3 or 4 the show can experiment with main lead characters leaving.
