Full Version: Jim Halpert Don Juan: Incites Both Excitement and Safety in Women
NBC > Primetime > The Office > The Scuttlebutt > The Staff Directory
GopherTrace
Here's my theory on Jim. He's obviously the target fantasy of all the straight women on this board. I think its easy to explain.

He strikes the perfect balance to the female psyche for the simultaneous emotions of excitement and safety that women crave.

Safety: Because they know the he always thinks through a situation rationally and makes the right conclusions.

Excitement: Because he has a devil may care aspect to his personality that keeps boredom at bay at all times.

Unfortunately, ultimately, both Karen and Pam would find him un motivated and
unchallenged and drifting through life. A sure romance killer.

So they live with their fantasies.

Why leave out the gay men? I am sure there is a gay man or men on the board that finds him attractive. I'm not asking anyone to come out of the closet but thats racist.

I will get to the rest once I stop laughing on how Jim is my target fantasy*.

p.s. its not really nice or kosher to cluster all the women on this board into one group. Not nice at all. I am sure this will be nicest statement in regards to this.

Ummm, wasnt Don Juan a womanizer because he was trying to cover the fact that he was gay?

It's not racist. It may be homophobic, but not racist. Besides, why does everything in the US have to boil down to race??

OK, this thread has gotten off to an interesting start! All I know is, speaking as a straight woman on this board who has had many a daydream involving Mr. Halpert (aka JKras) he is darned near perfect. He is extremely sexy while at the same time carries this boyish charm. He has the BEST smile and a great sense of humor. He's intelligent and makes one he11 of a grilled cheese sandwich. And he's not a complainer. Need I go on? To me, the safe part about him is that when he loves someone, he REALLY loves with his whole heart (which is very risky and right now painful for Jim - but we know it'll get better, right?) But if you love a guy like that back, he'll treat you like a queen and be yours forever wub.gif . What more is there? Geez, is it getting warm in here? wink.gif

*sighs* Again my creative sarcasm is lost yet again. (a parallel between Diversity Day and The Convict) *sighs again*

Someone create a "SARCASM AHEAD" road sign for me please!

A-MEN, sister! Aside from the sexiness, he's sweet, attentive, has a great sense of humor and a tremendous amount of consideration (except for Dwight but hey, the pranks are all out of love, right?) He seems like the kind of guy that will guarantee you a commited relationship and would be more than willing to hear about your day, whether good or bad. And he's not afraid to put his emotions out there and tell you his feelings, no matter what the outcome may be. *sigh....*

Diversity Day:
Dwight: Okay, can we steer away from gay people.

(Michael rolls his eyes)

Mr. Brown: Uh, I'm sorry it's an orientation, not a race.

Dwight: Plus a lot of other races are also intolerant of gays. So...paradox.

========

The Convict:

Michael: You are such a racist.
Kevin: Wait, why am I a racist?
Michael: Because you think he’s black.
Kevin: He is black … right?

There is my parallel for gays & races *sighs*

I don't know. I think that was Casanova or something, but I'm not sure.

Both Cindy's Office and Fundle Bundle have stated EXACTLY what makes Jim Halpert so attractive, so I won't go on and list the same features. I will just add one more thing: It's incredibly attractive and endearing that a smart, funny, sexy guy is so deeply in love with such a normal girl: a girl that lots of the women on this board can identify with. Part of his attraction is the belief that *we* could be Pam and that Jim Halpert is, in a sense, attainable.

I got over it. It took a little less than half this season (I didn't start watching regularly until summer reruns), but I got over it.

What looked like a devil may care personality early on now just seems smug, cocky and arrogant to me.

In the long run I find Tim Canterbury from the BBC version much sexier and more endearing.

The attraction has somewhat waned for me too. Don't get me wrong though, . . . the moment he unleashes that megawatt smile on Pam again , (a la "Drug Testing"). . . all bets are off. wink.gif

And yes sammy . . . Tim is sexy, and endearing, and adorable, and you just want to hug him and make him smile. smile.gif

Sammy57, I am in complete agreement. Jim's behavior this season has lost much of the attraction for me. He may be able to win it back as Mixedberries indicated, but for now I do not see Jim as an ideal man. Tim Canterbury may have seemed a little more pathetic on the surface, but he never became delusional about what he really wanted. No matter how painful it was, Tim never denied the truth that Dawn was his perfect match regardless of the outcome. I find Tim's devotion very endearing and sexy.

I see where you guys are coming from, but honestly I don't see Jim's behavior as arrogant just yet. What I see is someone who has put his heart on the line for Pam more than once, has given her space to allow her to sort out her feelings, and he's even tried to move on with Karen(although it's a poor choice). After finally trying to respect Pam's wishes and getting on with his life, her ex-fiance tries to beat him to a pulp. I see it as frustration and maybe even anger. Pam has strung him along, possibly unknowingly, but I believe she still has. He's been toyed with and he's upset. I don't think he'll stay that way for long, though.
