Full Version: Upcoming Episode lengths
NBC > Primetime > The Office > Administration

Based on a couple of hints, rumors or just plain toying with us. There has been information leaked and found, thank you Bailey08, that in some way the Office will be expanded in a few different ways.

There are so many things out there that could be done, but not everyone would be satisfied for sure.

What are your thoughts?

What about a time and day change? Has that been discussed?
Andy's Best Friend
There's really not another day that would be better than Thursday. Thursday is NBC's "Must See TV" line-up, which is where NBC sitcoms strive to be.

I agree, I was just wondering if that was being suggested.

I am in agreement with this. If I am correct Season 1 was shown on Tuesdays. Thursday reign supreme for NBC with all the other show tie-ins.

The first half of season 2 was shown on Tuesdays as well. I started watching about mid season 2 and it was still on Tuesdays then.

To answer the question about the episodes- I'm actually happy with either one smile.gif

My only isssue with moving the show to 9:00 is the fact that it would have to compete with Grey's Anatomy and CSI. I know most of us here on the boards would watch it instead of the others but the numbers do matter to the networks.
scottyskater77
If it did get moved to the 9:00 time slot, it would not have to compete with Fugly Betty, but CSI and Grey's are big competition so I'm not too sure the time change will be beneficial or not. I'm pretty happy with the way things are now, but I would like to see either more episodes next season, or longer episodes next season.

I think it's 24 episodes total including 4 hour-long episodes.

Which doesn't seem like that much more than we got this season. We had what, . . . two hour-long epi, (with the finale), and several super-sized episodes?
Offive
As long as there is an episode to watch, I'll be watching. The times really don't matter to me. Naturally I would like longer episodes, but not necessarily less because of it. I think the 24 30's and 4 1hrs will be nice. I'm just sad that this season is coming to an end... the wait is going to be killer.

I really don't want the Office to be on at 9:00, I think it would get less viewers. sad.gif

Are they thinking about changing the time? Because I haven't heard anything about this

We're getting 25 total this year. The hour-long eps count double.

There's also been discussion of making it a full hour. The final decision will be released on Mon. Talk about major pressure if they take the Cheers/Seinfeld/Frazier spot & go up against Grey's. unsure.gif I don't really care - I just want more eps & at a good time so more people will watch!

All I want is as much Office as possible! I dont care how or when we get it. The longer episodes are awesome, but so much happens in half hour ones that I am still ok with that as well.

The time slot doesn't matter so much to me, since I watch it on DVR later usually, but I would hate to see it go up against a powerhouse ratings show.

I agree about the possible fallout from going up against Grey's and CSI, but if they decide to start monitoring ratings using the time-shifting premise, it won't be as big a deal. I think that ratings were up 24% when they counted in DVR/Tivo ratings. Don't quote me on the 24%, but the ratings were significantly better when counting time-shifting.
pretendonitis
Weren't they talking about making it a one-hour show period at one point? That's what I wanted to vote for...

I voted for more thirty minute episodes though, because that still adds up to more office overall!

Right, so if they go with 24 episodes including 4 one-hour episodes, then that's the equivalent of 28 1/2 hours episodes next year. That's not much of a change. Any gain is good, but that wouldn't be as great at 37 1/2 hour epi. or turning it into an hour-long show.

I would love to have longer episodes, as long as my cable provider can do a better job of sychronizing the DVR record time with NBC's timing. Although I usually watch The Office live, sometimes the DVR cuts off too soon on the longer episodes.
scottyskater77
Well, no matter what time or how long the episodes are, I will still be watching. I currently schedule my life around the show, so making a change in 'time slot' or 'episode length' will not have an affect on me. My life literally does revolve around The Office.
fleece_it_out
I would want the 24 episodes and 4 hour long ones. I like the current time slot, I don't watch that much TV, so I don't have anyy worries about it interfering with my other shows.

The more office, the better.

You can go in and add time on either end of the recording. I usually add 2 minutes to the beginning and end of a recording. If you have DirecTV, you set the show to record, then go into the To Do List, move over to Options and add as much time as you want.
jamsweetjam
smile.gif I would prefer to see it move to a 9 pm time slot. In discussion w/ friends, it is tough when you have young kids to get them in bed and be ready to watch without missing anything.

Also, if they want to venture into some subject matter that is a little more mature such as Women's Appreciation, the 9 p.m. time is more appropriate.

Thanks Wedd. I had forgotten that I had that option on TimeWarner's DVR. I'm getting old.
