don't you sometimes just wanna vent? don't you wish we all had a toby to complain to? well, I needed to vent today, so I made this topic so we can all vent about whatever ails us. I'll start.

FAFSA (federal student aid) SUCKS. I have NO money for books, and they (for whatever reason) decided to NOT give me a Pell Grant this year, which means I have ABSOLUTELY NO money for books! I can't take the classes without books. If I don't take these classes now, I can't take them until NEXT fall! So this whole not having books thing is BAD. I was depending on that to pay for it, otherwise I wouldda gotten a student loan from my bank over the summer. But now it would be way too late by the time that's approved, so I'm STUCK. I hate this. I don't know what to do! mad.gif I HATE FAFSA. dry.gif

I hate the last week before mid-quarter. This is the week when every teacher says,"I dont have enough grades". This week I have a poetry project due, an english test, a history test, a chemistry test, and a latin test. All of these are due Wednesday thru Friday. I guess I will be gone for a while, as Officionada will certainly enforce.

My school doesn't offer standard AP exams, their "Advanced Studies" courses throught the local community college (because the smart kids will go there right?), so the credits only transfer to SUNY schools (State University of New York). Basically your screwed if you want to go to a private college or a school out of state.

Also my school is so small they won't offer a French 4 course that my friend and I want to take so we're going to curse out our guidence counselor about how they better make and independant study (we talked to our french teacher, she said she wouldn't do it because it's to much paper work). Isn't it their job for a public high school to provide educational oppertunities to everybody, or am I sorely mistaken?

God receptionist, i feel so bad for you. That is total BS. God, first some B**** flips out about a fender bender, and now this. Don't you just have the most admirable life right now.

I vented in the off topic thread on saturday, but i will repeat it again. My chemistry teacher is the biggest idiot ever. He doesn't explain anything and when we ask questions, he asks the class, but nobody knows the right answer so like 6 people throw out wrong answers and he doesn't say what the right answer is, he just moves on. If he doesn't ask the class, then he just says that we went over it in class the previous days, which we haven't. It's his first year teaching. He is in the ACE program from Notre Dame. I thought Notre Dame was a good school, but then this moron comes from it so im not so sure. I go to private school and I think that its wrong of the school to hire such an incompetent moron. I have never had such a bad teacher before. He is incredibly stupid. There are about 130 juniors at my school and i have yet to find 1 that says he is good teacher. About 15 people are passing his class with a C or higher. I have an F and I have never gotten an F or a D before. He is so incredibly stupid. God I hate him. Everyday at lunch, my and all my friends talk about how stupid he is and what dumb things he did that day in class.

You know, when I read about students like you guys, it makes me want to go back to teaching. Bad teachers soooo infuriate me! It took me 5 years after I graduated from college to land a job; I taught for 1 year, then they had the inevitable budget cuts. Most of the 1st year teachers were ousted, while really bad teachers that had tenure got to keep their jobs. Some of them wore bedroom slippers to class and watched soap operas all day in the classroom! I ended up changing careers.

Agent Michael Scarn, see if any colleges you are interested in will let you test out of classes. I did that at my university for 11 credits.

ilovetheoffice, just a suggestion - how about taping your chemistry class? Then you have evidence that he is total crap. BTW, Regis Philbin went to Notre Dame.
receptionist
yeah my life is so much fun right now. mellow.gif

ilovetheoffice, you should get together with other classmates and tell the administrators! Actually write out why he's imcompetent, what he's doing wrong in class, why you're not learning everything... I grew up in private school, and I know that usually the admins do weight the kids' opinion a little heavier, simply because it's a smaller school that isn't run by the state--so they ahve more say. Private schools are always struggling to keep up with the test scores of public schools (not that it's hard, it's just something they strive for), so if you're not learning anything because of that moron, the admins need to know! Did that make sense? It was a little disombobulated, but yeah... tell them! Get together a petition if needed--we all know how well those petitions work! wink.gif

Have you tried amazon.com for used books, I saved 150 dollars by doing it that way this semester. You should also try to look for scholarships. There are Hundreds of scholarships that don't get picked up every year. There is a way to do it. I believe in you.

Agent Michael Scarn[b], Even if credits don't transfer, out of state schools like to see that you are challenging yourself be it in City college or AP courses. Plus you have to get a four to transfer the credit and it does't always work depending on your schools GE's

yeah and it's always the good teachers that are scorned... at parent night the other night, the teacher I aide for was totally bombarded with jerky parents asking mean questions, and basically accusing her of holding the students back. the woman has 18 years of experience, and has successfully brought her last 4 classes of 1st graders from pre-K or K-level reading to 3rd or 4th grade reading level, and they usually tested in 90th percentile for standardzed testing--and she told them all this, and they STILL gave her a hard time! It's a shame, really, that the good teachers get abused and the bad ones get tenure. like my geo prof. ugh! was he terrible... never taught us a thing, and expected us to know everything on the tests. and he was just unprofessional! anyone who disagreed with him was a blankety-blank moron or a bleepin idiot. Just a mean, nasty old man. dry.gif

My bosses are making me angry. About a month ago I was promised a promotion to manager, which would mean a huge pay increase (of course) but the condition was I had to wait until one of my bosses (who is gay) fired the other one (who is his boyfriend). Every week he has been promising that they are about to break up, but it never happens. The boss who is supposed to be fired is a giant *** by the way, and I'm seriously thinking of just quitting. Screw pizza.

ok, this one's about county health services. So for my new job, I need a TB test. The only place I know of to get one without having symptoms is the county health office. I went for my THIRD time today. first tiem they tell me, "we can only give out 10 a day so you ahve to come in the morning. we start at 8am." So I go last thurs morning, 8am sharp. Then they tell me, "oh we don't do them on thursdays because we can't read them over the weekend." Missed an hour of work that day... and then I went today--got there at 7:50. And guess what?? they don't start giving them out until 10:30! BUT you have to be there at 8 to sign up, or you won't be one of the 10 who can get it! So I could've gone to work at 7:30, and come back at 10 to get the shot, but NO. I have to wait in line for 45 mins, fill out paperwork, and then leave and come back at 10:30. If I go to work, I'd have 30 mins, and I'd have to come back, since it takes 30 mins to get there. SO now I'll be losing... (counting) more than 3 hours of work because those morons can't just give me the dang test at 8 when they start!

I just hope you don't actually have TB. But these annoying people could give you a heart attack. Our tax dollars at work??? ugh.

My rant is about my health. I have had several chronic illnesses and finally had to go on disability. I hate it! I miss working, I miss having money and I hate pain. I miss participating in sports, and I'm sick of doctors who cannot help me. I love my parents, but I'm sick of living in their basement. Today I was so sick, I didn't even open the Office dvd that arrived today until this evening. I'm going to watch it right now, since laughter is allegedly the best medicine.

I am getting SO frustrated about this bs drama going on with the house!!! If you are paying almost HALF of the rent that we are, you DO NOT have the right to claim the entire garage and driveway!! Then sit there and b!tch when we flat out say "No." I don't understand the logic behind your thinking... HOW does that make any sense?! AHHHHHH!!!

That's a smart idea testing out and I'm still going to take the classes anyways, but I might not pay for them.

New Gripe:

My mom hit a deer on Tuesday, so she didn't go to work. Because she didn't go to work she didn't pick me up Season Three. So after my soccer game I went to see if wally world had it, they didn't. Then later I went to Sam Goody they only got one copy of it and sold it to the people who walked out of the store ahead of me. So I bought season one of the British verison and I'm going back tommorrow to get a copy (that's when a new shipments coming in).

So today I'm just leaving work at 5 p.m. and my phone rings. I should have let it go into voicemail, since my computer and lights were already off, I had my handbag and keys in hand...

But I picked up, and it was a potential new client asking for information. Even though I could tell right away that his call was slightly misdirected to me and that I wouldn't be able to finalize things for him, I took the time to give him as much info as I could, and tried not to sound rushed even though I wanted to go home!

Then I connected him to the right person who could help him - even calling her first and explaining what he was looking for so she could be prepared before I transferred him.

On my way out the door, I stopped by her desk and she was still on the phone with this potential new client. I was shocked to hear her giving him curt, one-word answers, not sounding helpful at all - basically giving him no reason to want to choose us to do business with!

He was asking for help now on a small order, but his main reason for calling was for a much bigger order in the near future. I'm sure he won't be choosing us after all - not with the way she treated him!

I was sooooo mad! As soon as she hung up, I said, "Was that still Mr. so-and-so you were talking to?" She said yeah and started giving reasons (excuses!!) as to why she wasn't being very helpful.

I didn't want to get into it with her then, so I just said that I hoped we didn't lose his big order down the road because of it. On top of her bad attitude, several of this girl's staff members have screwed up on my accounts lately, causing me to look bad and upsetting our clients. I can't win!

WHY DO I BOTHER?! I try to give good customer service, play the game as part of a team (knowing that ALL of our efforts contribute to the bonus we'll get), and treat the customer well, and then one surly co-worker can blow the whole thing! GRRRRR!!!!!

Thanks for letting me vent! You probably saved a life...

So, my chemistry teacher problem, i have a 64 in that class ,which is a D. My dad is going to throw a fit because progress reports are sent out tomorrow, but i don't really care, i have pretty much given up on school. Then, a group of people got together this morning to talk to the teacher, and ended up getting yeld at by the head of the science director. and my dad is the type of person that thinks that it is never the teachers fault and always the students fault. So, i don't care any more, and i have given up. I just decided that i would let you all know how that turnd out. Anyways, i got THE OFFICE SEVERENCE PACKAGE but have had so much homework that i haven't had any time to watch it. Lucky me. I also have THE OFFICE CALENDAR, i got that last week from target. Ok i just got off topic, oops. So, to sum it up, my chemistry teacher sucks and so does my school. Hey Receptionist, have you figured out what your going to do for your school books?

Kudos for those who at least tried to talk to the chemistry teacher. But, as Michael Scott says, "Never, never, never give up!" Maybe you should show your dad this blog. But please, don't give up! You don't want to spend the rest of your life saying, "D'ya want fries with that?" Well, you can still get good jobs even without chemistry. All you can do is your best.

Here's my new rant for the day: I mentioned I live with my parents, but I did not mention that my mother suffers from dimentia. Actually, she doesn't suffer; she is quite happy - she just asks the same questions about 40 times a day. Also, she has no concept of time, so she thinks it is always breakfast/lunch/dinner/ snack time. She doesn't really get The Office, but she does love that cute little theme song!

Sorry about your mom. My mom has heart failure and they put her on some pill that is supposed to help her heart back in december, and it didn't work so now she has to get a defibulator put in. She has to get a new one put in every 5 years because the battery dies. Each surgery can cost from 20,000-60,000 a surgery. Definetly not fun.

Show my dad this blog, hahahahahaha. My dad is around 52, im not sure the exact age, but he isn't exactly technical. He knows how to check stocks on the computer and right up documents and that is about as far as it goes. If i even mentioned the office, message board, or internet, he would blow up and say i am wasting my time and i watch to much t.v. (after i explained to him that the office is a t.v. show), that i shouldn't be talking to strangers, and that i should only use the internet for homework. And blah blah blah. My dad has a horrible temper and throws a fit over everything! So i don't care if he yells, to be honest, i am kind of excited. I have been yelled at by him for various things, but not for grades. Usually i get grades, well good enough, and if i have a C or a B then he asks me "why isn't this an A"? So, i am kind of excited to have him yell because he doesn't expect it. When my dad gets mad, he gets MAAAAAAD. I don't care though, i will be excited. he doesn't really care what i say so i will just say something like "that was because he didn't enter alot of my grades" or some BS like that. But hey, it will just be the most fun day on friday when my progress report comes... How exciting!

thanks for asking, ilovetheoffice. Well, as it turns out, LAST YEAR (since everything is based off last year's tax return), I made too much to qualify for the grant. The lady in fin. aid ticked me off. She was all bubly and not at all sympathetic to the fact that I had no money for book, and I'm screwed. She actually said. "Well the difference between the cutoff and what you made is such and such--so you CAN afford your books!" She straight up said that after I said, "There's no way I can afford my books without the grant." I'm like, hello? I DO have other finances besides school! I have a car, and insurance, and GAS (finally down to $2.79 here), and all that other crapola.

ok, that was the bad--here's the good.

So I mentioned my predicament to my parents, who, two years ago, had told me they can't afford to help me with any school. Shortly thereafter, I got married, moved out, and started getting financial aid. (wow that made it sound like I only got married to get fin. aid. haha! whoops.) So they asked me how much I needed, why I didn't qualify, dot dot dot. And then my dad asks me to go to his house, and he writes me a check for $300 right then and there! This was before I had spoken with fin. aid so it was before I knew for a fact that I don't qualify. He told me, "If you get the grant, you can pay us back with that. If not, then--your books are paid for!" So I ended up dropping two classes, since I was only taking them to get the grant (have to be full time), and that saved some money on books, and I spent $200 on the remaining two classes. So I'm giving my parents back the $100 difference.

Thank God for parents, huh?!?!?! I literally couldn't do it without them.

My civics teacher gave us a pop test today. It is the same test that legal aliens and immigrants have to take to become a US citizen. I stunk. I got a 66% which is horrible considering my average grades are about 90%.
So after spending forever on in class grading and stressing us out he tells us it doesnt really count as a grade and he doesnt even need to look at it. Dont get me wrong I didnt want it to count as a grade but I just wish that I didnt have to get stressed out over nothing.

She has to get a new one put in every 5 years because the battery dies. Each surgery can cost from 20,000-60,000 a surgery. Definetly not fun.

ilovetheoffice, sorry about your mom, too. She must be pretty young for such health problems. As for your dad, you could tell him this is a teacher sponsored tutoring website - haha. So sorry about his temper, too. Just don't grow up to be like that. And I don't know if I mentioned, I got a D in chemistry in college. So don't feel too bad.

receptionist, how wonderful of your parents! I have been so worried about your books. What are you studying?

coffee, another bad teacher story - they make me so mad!!!

When dealing with bad teachers myself, i am comforted by the fact that there is a belltower at my school. I think it was put there to threaten the teacher.

I hate speech class. I am a pretty articulate person but I don't see the need to read a 20 page chaper a night to help with Public Speaking.

Receptionist, how nice of your parents. Vbarkley, i don't wanna grow up like him. I am glad someone else failed chemistry too (no offense). I don't plan on doing anything with science when i grow up so it doesn't matter if i know chemistry. well at least to me it doesn't matter. Progress reports were sent out today! super! lol. VBarkley, when you said my mom must be pretty young, i laughed because she is 49. Since i am only 16 she seems old, but i am sure that may not be too old to some people on this board.

Thanks, VBARKLEY!

Currently I'm working on an AA in Sign Language Interpreting, and after that, I'll be getting my BA in English and a credential for single-subject teaching, and possibly go on to get my MA in Deaf Education. So there's a LOT I can do with all those degrees. But for now, I'm still working on the AA in Interpreting. smile.gif

AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Our stupid mother ******** backup drive just crashed! We went against our best judgment and purchased a Western Digital backup drive, actually 3 of them, one for us and 2 for the company we work for, and ours just crashed! The stupid @sses won't take care of the data on it, all they will do is replace it!!!! The hard drive should be under warranty... don't they understand that the information on that drive is NOT replaceable? It's a ******** BACKUP drive, that means that it will be holding VERY VERY important information... pictures, writing, everything that you simply cannot replace. I can't go back and re-shoot a wedding! We are NEVER going to buy anything from Western Digital again!!! If we can't get the data off of this drive, and they refuse to fix it (it is still under warranty) then we are going to find a way to sue the living **** out of them...

Well, my problem is kinda personal, so I'll just say this.

What the **** is wrong with women?
You tell them how you feel (twice) then they call you over the weekend (both times), then during the week (yesterday) you have this amazingly fun conversation about them shopping with their boyfriend, and what kind of flowers she knows she's getting for Homecoming and Prom, but you don't mention that you hate her boyfriend, and you catch yourself looking down at the ground and not talking whenever she mentions her boyfriend and you know she sees it, but you try to play it off, like it was nothing. But, you think maybe you dug yourself into the hole, because you're the one who started hanging out with her and made this really good friendship, knowing that you were in love with her. And you look back, when she broke up with her other boyfriend, you decided to give her some time before you made a move, and she ended up going out with this complete loser, because you waited too long. And you know for a fact that you WILL NOT make that mistake again. But, it still doesn't change the fact that she's currently with a total jerk, and you can't do anything but keep being friends with her, and go to that corn maze that SHE invited you to, and see what happens.

Ummm, that sounds kind of specific, but that could happen to anyone

Alright, I vented.

No offense taken! It was the only D I ever ot in my life, and I was horrified by it. I even wanted to take the class again, but they told me it still would not wipe out the previous grade, that it was on my PERMANENT RECORD. I'm over it now, except when I tried out for Jeopardy! and there were 2 questions about the Periodic table of Elements that I missed on the test, so I did not get picked. And I still graduated from college Summa *** Laude.

And your mom IS young, especially to have such serious health problems. I am young, and I am only 3 years younger than her. laugh.gif

I have a song stuck in my head from this morning... it's a 1st grade song about the days of the week. dry.gif

This has been mostly about science teachers, but I'm going to vent about my Geometry teacher. My real teacher had a baby over the summer, and decided to take the first month of school off for maternity leave. Our substitute was a complete nut case. This guy was really old, and he didn't explain ANYTHING. He wouldn't give us the notes that our teacher left for him and instead made us copy our own out of the book. And when he did try to explain, we had no idea what he was saying because it was jusgt rambling. Then, he only took 3 grades. Most of the class was failing. My friend and I, who are straight A students, went to our Guidance counseler and principal to try and get this guy fired. In the end it didn't work. Finally yesterday, our real teacher came back. but now we are starting from scratch at the beginning of the book, so it was 4 weeks of school waisted.

I cannot believe they censored Summa *** Laude. Let's just say high honors. blink.gif

I'm sorry about all your guys' problems. They sound a lot worse than mine. But here I go:

My church is in a slightly different area than where I live so all of the teenagers that go to it go to a different highschool. My highschool and their highschool are actually rivals. Anyways, this summer we went on a mission trip down to Mexico and I became really close with these people. I've been coming to realize how much I don't like being around my friends from the school I go to. I don't really have the same interests as they do and they don't agree with me on many things. I've been really frustrated with my group of friends since last June but I can't just defriend them or else I'll have no one to really hang out with at school.

On top of all this I've been having these stomach problems since school started. I can't help but go into one of my classrooms and feel like I'm going to throw up. Its more of a mind game that I'm playing with myself (a game that I don't enjoy) where I make myself get a stomach ache because I feel like I'm trapped in a classroom and can't get out fast enough. Now I'm getting them everywhere and life doesn't really feel good right now.

Man, I guess the schools in this country really suck. No wonder SAT scores are so low.

Not trying to give medical advice, but that sounds like panic attacks. If you haven't already, you might want to talk to a doctor or counselor. You can learn more at the link below. Hope you feel better soon.

All this talk about school makes me glad I graduated back in the 20th century!

BTW, my 25th class reunion is 2 months away. I'm not going...
