You know, the more I think about this episode, the more I appreciate the show's intricate and clever writing.
1) Joe withdrawing from Allison seemed so organic and naturual, and in keeping with human nature. But consider how essential it was to the plot: because he withdrew from her, her loneliness prompted her to be uncharacteristically open with a stranger, who offered her much-needed solace during a time of great loneliness and uncertainty.
2) The use of the last victim's cell phone/voice recorder as a channel for Allison to see what happened was brilliant. It was continuous with the behavior that PD compulsively displayed throughout the last 3 episodes, and is a way for the DA's office to prove without a doubt that Paxton did it. Of course, we don't know yet if that evidence will be admissible, and whether it will make a solid case against Paxton. But judging from the strong confident air Allison had when walking out of that meeting room, I will bet Paxton will get his a** thrown back in jail.
I just **loved** the almost lyrical way the vision came to Allison. The call on the phone with no one on the other end, a literal call from beyond the grave. The knock on the door, which wasn't really a knock in the physical sense, and then her witnessing PD's and Paxton's entire conversation, not just what was said after she turned the recorder on.
3) True to her character, Allison had to make one last plea with PD to get her to change hotel rooms. Like, her reputation being shot to pieces and her life being turned upside down did not matter in comparison to the impending loss of a human life. Our heroine is so brave and noble!
Which leads to me a side question: is everything already predetermined in Allison's visions? Can no one alter the course of events, that no matter what one does, her visions WILL always come true? These are deep philosophical questions that I'm sure the screenwriters of the "Back to the Future" movies wrestled with.

I didn't like the way the mystery's denouement was revealed in a very expository, overly obvious way through Pamela Franklin's and Paxton's "pillow talk" conversation. The show should trust viewers to understand through their own inferences and make the unraveling more subtle.
Other web sites are also pointing out that the police work must be very sloppy indeed if the cell phone lay undetected under PD's piles of papers.
Anybody else have any thoughts, or are you busy working, as you should be?

I agree with everyone you said, wendy. The episode was excellent as always, though it was a little disappointing after the buildup of the previous episodes. The use of the cellphone was a brilliant way to reveal the killer to Allison, and give her the evidence needed to convict Paxton and vindicate herself. That was very creepy when the phone rang and there was no one there, and then the knock on the door. Again, the writers have shown how clever they are. I too, read the comments from other viewers on other boards about the sloppy police work, but I consider that a minor detail in an otherwise excellent show.
That being said, here's the problem that I had with the episode. First of all, it didn't feel like a typical episode of Medium. It felt more like a dream, and I kept expecting Allison to wake up. Also, Devalos disappearing suddenly and Scanlon turning on Allison the way he did was very out of character for both of them. And did anyone else notice that the episode played completely differently than in the previews. In the preview, we saw Debra being attacked by a masked man in her hotel room, and we saw Allison firing a gun. Neither of those scenes were in the episode that aired. And overall, the episode felt rushed and then ended abruptly. Which leads me to believe that either it was changed at the last minute, or that there is more to the story, that we will hopefully see next season. I wouldn't be surprised if the next season started with Allison waking from a dream (i.e. this last episode). If anyone can pull that off, the writers of Medium can. But I just thought the episode ended suddenly and left too many questions unanswered, which is why I think there may be more to it. Or at least I hope there is. I would really hate to think that the writers of my beloved Medium would do a story arc like that and end it that way. It just doesn't make sense.
