im like obsessed with this show. i watch it all the time. hahaha. thats not pathetic right? hahaha. but they are so much better the second time around. the one thing i notice is how the charcters have changed since the pilot. ive noticed a few key things that have been said that have made me wonder what the **** is really going on. Like after sal and huey are killed and nicky and vinnie are talking about how nicky pushed jimmy until he killed sal and huey. it just confused me a little. but yea i can definetly appreciate the epis more now that i know the charcters.

I think I liked all of the episodes even BETTER the second time around! This show is just amazing. Anyway, this has probably been mentioned somewhere before on this board, but I was rewatching the pilot and noticed that in the closing scene (when kevin and tommy are walking to the bar to kill sal and huey) that there are two people hanging out in the street. They're kind of in the shadows and hard to see, so I'm wondering if we're just supposed to ignore them, or if they might be people that could have seen/heard the murders happen.

ya ive noticed them. i guess you just have to assume they left. but my main thing with pilot end scene is there were two guys outside when kevin and tommy arrived and there was a 3rd guy that called down to sal. as tommys going downstairs, you see the guy walk outside. so did he just leave and go home? cause kevin just shot the two guys...so where'd the 3rd guy go?

The only ep I've gotten the chance to re-watch is the pilot and it is even more powerful the second time around. I think because we know the characters now and we're more attached to them. I love the scene where Kevin's playing cards with the guy they kidnapped. That was too funny! I have a question though. Did the brothers ever find out that Nicky and his partner were the ones who almost beat Sean to death?

Get your fix now becuase they will be taken off this site eventually, maybe even as soon as June when the reruns start showing on HDNet (which I don't get

Can't get enough
I don't know about all of you...But I seriously can not get enough of rewatching scenes from the old episodes. It's painful though, reliving all these great moments and not knowing if the characters will continue to develop or if anything will ever be resolved. NBC is so mismanaged. I pray that FX or Spike will pick it up. Hopefully in time for next fall.

Yes! It is painful and every time I watch an episode again, I get so ****** off! Well, if it does get picked up by another network, then we won't see season two until next year. Billy Lush (Kevin) is in Africa until December. We have been sending letters, emails, etc to every network! I hope they are hearing us!!! This is a great show! We have to have more seasons!

I can't stop rewatching the episodes either! I mostly rewatch them to catch all of the clever and witty lines that you sometimes don't always pick up. In every episode, there's a good quote to remember every 5 minutes. I can't get enough of that.
The quotes at the beginning of each show to highlight the themes.. and the dialogue of the characters are definitely memorable.

I thought the same thing! I rewatched it though, a few times and reallized this......When Tommy and Kevin get there, there are two guys outside, one of them goes in to make the call downstairs then goes back out to hang with the other guy and Kevin after Tommy heads downstairs. There isn't a third guy. If you watch when the one guys waves Tommy in, there is just Tommy, Kevin and one other guy outside.

I think what a lot of people miss is the depth of the series. I still think many people don't
understand the series, which is why they don't necessary "like it". A lot of critics, and even the average TV viewer (you'll see that write or post comments in other forums) see the Donnelly characters as just
delinquents and that it is unbelievable that these young men can take over a neighborhood. The brothers are not just delinquents.. There is more depth to the story if you watch more episodes. A storyline builds.. and the viewer begins to understand a little bit about the motives of each character, even outside of the Donnelly family. It talks about the role of politics and corruption.. which is way beyond delinquency and anyone elses control. The brothers expose something that is meant to be buried and unknown.
I've heard people comment that the show is "confusing". Again, I think that's attributed to them not giving the series a chance nor them giving themselves a chance to "understand" the show. There are a lot of techniques used when they shot and edited this show. You have a narrator with mystery.. as to why he is incarcerated. You have scenes that flashback for historical purposes revealing motives for the present. The witty quotes to give comic relief is one of my favorite parts of the show. Placed in the right time in an episode, it reveals a lot about the character. It's really clever how each method helps put an episode together.
This is why I enjoy and support this show. Not many shows in TV are like The Black Donnellys.

not only do we got a lot of fans, but we got that science guy I haven't heard **** from since I was in third grade!!! j/k lol
I hate the blurryness on nbc's flash video crap, and ITunes are tremendously huge files to dl 40 minutes of dons, but they don't even provide all the colors, it messed me up with the fights big time except for the ones in broad daylight. I had to watch each one a third time to get everything down, the scenery, garments, all of the above. I haven't watched anything for 2 weeks now.

I think there were only two. One of the guys outside walked in to call Sal on the phone. He then went back outside. I noticed the two girls outside Sal's too. Looked like hookers. We assume they left. But you never know. Kevin was paranoid about being seen but didn't mention them to Tommy. Funny how we over analyze every scene from every episode.

OMG, you touched on the ONE THING that has been bugging me. Tommy always get his revenge but he KNEW that Nicky was the one that beat up Sean (he told him so when he was outside his mother's house) so why did he let him get away with it? This has been driving me crazy.

i am glad that i am not the only one enjoying rewatching the episodes.
one thing i realized from rewatching the episodes is that TBD is much better with limited or no commercials. it's kinda hard to follow especially the pilot with so many characters, relationships, flashbacks being introduces for the first time. that's probably why some people were turned off and didnt start watching the series, obviously it's much easier to follow a reality show and not need to use too much of your brains.
to everyone rewatching, enjoy...spread the word to your friends. TBD is not to be missed in our life-time.

Nicky's an Italian, you know what they think of Italians. They don't expect more from them. With Dokey it was different b/c he was Irish and they'd known him all their lives.
I think they put it behind them b/c they had no choice. They are sort of playing a chess match with Nicky, and they don't want to be too rash. That's how I see it anyway

So Tommy did know. Okay, thanks for clearing that up for me. The only ep I've had the chance to rewatch is the pilot and I didn't remember if they ever found out or not. I'm surprised Tommy didn't get revenge for that too but
Snakelady brings up a good point. I guess it is different for them with the Italians than it is with the Irish. They expect them to come at them. Thanks guys.....ah, now I can relax a little.

Reminscing (sp?) The Black Donnellys, I sure do miss the series.
I don't know about you but I do sure this show. Thank goodness for the online episodes. I really can't wait for September for the DVD to come out.
Today, I was thinking about what it was.. that has inspired me to invest so much time into a series. I just thought.. it's a great show, no ifs or ands about it. I've never been so passionate about any television show as I am towards The Black Donnellys. There is nothing on network television that inspires me or creates this emotional passion in me.
It made me think of the episode where.. the show flashbacks to Bobby Donnelly teaching his sons how to properly fold the flag when a veteran or man of arms passes. I loved how they paralleled that moment as Tommy was trying to save Kevin from the wheelchair Vet. While, yes, in a way the vet's death may have been senseless.. it stood for more.. And of course you all know the irony of it all. They just wanted to burn down the apartment building to raze and rebuild it. I digress. I loved how at that moment they were folding the flag for the wheel chair vet.. We saw the flashback.. and you could see how well they framed that scene.
We looked through four corners of the window as Bobby taught his children how to fold the flag and honor an individual. There were so many metaphors and paradoxes going on at that moment.. whether it be about an individual fighting for ones own country to be injuried and living on the verge of eviction, to living in a neighborhood of corruption where one gives a little and trusts a little, they are betrayed.. All of the sacrifices for what? A loss of self.. to give and help your own "family".
It's great. I love this show.

And I'll say it.. time and time and again.. I think most people that say TBD is "bad".. either haven't watched the show.. or don't understand it. It's the case where.. just because you don't understand something or something confuses you doesn't mean it's bad. You just have to open your eyes and try to figure out what the director, the story and characters are trying to tell you. That's what makes this show enjoyable, because it acknowledges that yes.. there times when you may not understand everything.. but it reveals itself later. That's how you ENGAGE a viewer.
People just have to give the show a chance, and they'll learn to love it. There's a lot of parallels both blatant and subtle about the character's lives and our own.

Does anyone else find themselves rewatching episodes online because you just love it all and can't get enough? Do you even find yourself streaming it in the background as your working on something else on your computer for the pure joy of being entertained?
TBD is well written with intense dialogue, it's instantly captivating, has intruiging characters, set in a place so far from the world I live in and leaves me wanting more - just like a great movie or novel.

Agreed!!! You hit the nail on the head! I just hope that Haggis and Moresco will see that we see how great this show is and push to give it another chance! I don't know how it all works in tvland but I want it back. I never have become so involved in a tv show before. Every episode stayed with me just like a great movie does...TBD is much more than a mob drama. It sparks so many different emotions in me; I can feel myself experiencing what the characters feel. That may sound a little corny but its true. Like when Tommy was talking to Huey at the hospital; the sound of his voice and the look on his face when he knew what he had to do to save Jimmy....knowing the promise he had made to himself years ago. And in the last episode when Joanie was pleading with Jimmy about leaving and not wanting to be a junkie;starting a new life. These are just two of many scenes that make TBD so, so good and cut deep.

It's funny, I just came on here for the first time since the show has been over to say the same thing!! I was editing my myspace and clicked on the youtube video I have posted. It's the very poignant last five minutes of the first episode, THE BEST 5 MINUTES IN TV HISTORY. I get goosebumps every single time. It just kills me that there is no end to the story. Honestly, I havent re-watched any episodes yet because it's just too painful to watch. I just pre-ordered the boxed set which, as I am sure you know, is out September 4th. You can pre-order it on Amazon, which so far has the best prices. I ordered it through F.Y.E where my sister works (which may be Strawberries, Record Town or Coconuts depending on where you live.) It's a little bit more expensive there (but I get a discount, so it makes it the same price!) but either way its a worthwhile investment. I cant wait to see the web-only episodes on a real TV! Thats all I have to say right now, besides......
I HATE NBC! I will never watch any of your new programming! I even completely stopped watching Heroes which was a half way decent show! AHHHH! IM DONE!!!

I agree with the previous posts. [obviously]
The cinematography, acting, and script are unique. When regarding generic clone shows like NYPD blue/ CSI Miami, NY, and Wyoming/ Bones/ Crossing Jordan, and House of Payne/ Everybody loves Raymond/ Everyone Hates Chris/ The Bill Engvall Show, it pains me to see a unique and gritty drama get superseded by this nonsense so the blithering masses can have their cookie-cutter shows.

I couldn't agree more! That is why we continue to fight for TBD and quality television! There is a whole lot of buzz surround the campaign right now. Especially after the LA Times article. Some of the buzz good and some bad (usually from people that have never watched the show). The petition
www.petitionspot.com is over 37,200 and gaining speed! This is the most action we have seen since the last episode aired. Hopefully our efforts will perusade another network to pick up the show. Maybe primetime wasn't ready for TBD but cable sure is!

I, too, was a Studio 60 fan but was hooked on The Black Donnellys from the first episode. I've always wondered how much of a role the backlash from Studio 60 fans played in TBD's lower ratings. In other words, if TBD had aired on another night and not replaced been replaced by TBD, is TBD something that Studio 60 fans would have watched?

I am still addicted to the Black Donnellys. This and coffee is about it and no, I do not want to get a life, it is okay as it is. However, the television entertainment portion of it has become all but drool.
How can anything be as exciting and stimulating as the Black Donnellys? I have watched some new shows hoping something would come close to the pleasure and fun I had on Mondays nights with the Donnelly brothers.....and always in the back of my mind is the thought that it is mostly crappe, watered down sop and I'm the dope to hope for anything as refreshing and brilliant as the Black Donnellys (even more so than the Sopranos-and that was a fantastic series). I have gotten into the habit of turning the TV off.
Geeze, I am so sick of being taken for granted by the bureaucrats who have simply gotten used to wielding their power for their own agendas, spending billions of dollars on worthless nonsense, and thinking that it is alright to abuse the poor working schmuck by believing "we" won't look up and realize that we have been had----and MY suggestion?........
To organize any and all TBD lovers, all those have signed petitions, anyone who is sick and tired of being played and TURN THE TUBE OFF FOR AN ENTIRE DAY--Might I suggest Mondays? There are always thoughtful books to read unless, of course, these get banned and burned, too. Which if you think about it may not be too far in the future.
ACTION NOT REACTION!!!!!
