Has anyone seen any news on the Emmys? Any chance that S60 will get any sort of acknowledgement? This was something I caught this morning:
http://theenvelope.latimes.com/awards/emmy...-home-headlinesQUOTE
Alison Janney is certainly an Emmy favorite with four wins out of six nominations for "The West Wing." She could pick up a guest actress nod this year for her appearance on the first of six new episodes of "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," the since-canceled Aaron Sorkin dramedy about life behind the scenes at a TV sketch comedy show. That's one of the first thoughts I had when I was watching this show...what are the odds that Allison Janney can get an Emmy for this? They love her and she's knocking it out of the park. I think more than just Allison deserves it but surely they can give one to her even if they don't like the show enough to give it a higher profile award. I think the GGs gave us the finger to a degree and everybody else took it as a sign that they could go on with the bashing. The Hollywood Foreign Press folks are the same ones that came up to the cast/crew of Rent after they screened it, kissed their arses, and proceeded to ignore it when handing out awards.
ETA: I've been looking through the message board with the Emmy predictions and it's surprising how many folks mention Studio 60 and our actors. Allison was just on plus guest actor is often a category overlooked in the guessing but someone I saw mentioned Christine Lahti and Ed Asner. Has Ed been in too many to get counted that way? I heard past a certain point you couldn't get a guest star nod and fell into "supporting."

May 25 2007, 06:30 PM
Yes! I hope at least 2 nods for the actors/actresses
I'm going to do another research (the first one being 2 months ago). I'll let everyone know if I found anything...

Okay, I've been googe-ing around and I've found nothing!
There's talk how Sarah Paulson shows the best acting at Studio 60. I, myself, find that ridiculous.

May 27 2007, 10:36 PM
Sarah Paulson got the Golden Globe nod, and those are usually, but not always, a good indicator. On the other hand, the Emmy's love to reward shows that it likes and knows it won't get another chance to reward, and Studio Sixty fits that bill.

I am all for Brad getting an Emmy for Breaking News. I know somewhere we were looking at others and their performances and someone mention that Steve Weber did not have anything in yet. I think my favorite Steve Weber show was Nevada Day I and II. I think he was best in those two shows. The ending of Nevada Day II when they return to NBS and he is talking about Jordan. That was great.

See that, that right there? Matthew Perry's a class act. All of them are. Some of the pain of losing the show might just be tempered a bit if we can get these deserving people some recognition for their talent, passion, and heart. There was professional fulfillment for them sure, getting scripts like this and working with each other, but there was also some serious determination to do right by us even as they were winding down. We have a month to go before the nominations are out and I sincerely feel that it would be a travesty if no one rewarded them for their work here. Maybe we can't get 25,000 lbs of nuts sent to NBC a la Jericho/CBS but we can sure get that buzz going on the Emmys.

Well like we did before, pestering members of the media to talk about the show and answer our questions, we can just redirect with things like 'what episode did Steven Weber submit' or 'what do you think about Matthew Perry's Emmy submission? was it "Friday Night Slaughter"? Does Matthew have a chance at a statue like Variety was saying?' Totally leading questions or just gushing but classy gushing, not gushing that makes them wanna yell at us to shut up.
About an ad, I'm not sure how much those cost. Probably a lot. Could be fun if it said the right thing.

Outside of Sorkin himself, who won't get one (or at the least I strongly doubt he will), Perry is the most deserving individual of an Emmy for S60.
If Perry is not at least nominated, I'll want to put my fist through my TV (I won't, but I'll want to). If Perry wins, that will be at least a minor consolation prize from the season.
It's also conceivable, though not likely, that S60 will get nominated as outstanding drama series, which would be an even better consolation prize even though I know it would not win.

Have Emmy Nominations came out yet? If they haven't that should be the next phase to focus our attention on to encourage the power that be to submit pieces to be nominated and after that do all that we can to get the people who vote on them to vote for them and when they win the press will have a field day.

Don't forget, they had to submit 6 episodes and didn't have the whole series to draw from--the last few weren't eligible and I'm not sure if K&R I was or not. The actors, writers, directors, etc. only have one they have to submit so they can focus it a little better. Battlestar Galactica never gets recognized nor did Veronica Mars and last year they left off Lost who'd won the year prior. The Emmy ballots are in growing pains and we had a strange year so the show missing out isn't surprising (although sad).
I personally am hoping especially for Steven Weber but there are many in the cast that I feel should at least make the short list even if they don't get in the top 5 due to typical Emmy old school voters. Would you say Eli Wallach get a nom for playing the blacklisted writer? I think Ed Asner submitted "Monday" which I'm not sure will bring him a nod since it's so brief (was that just in the board room?). If I were him I'd have done The Christmas Show. Shame that Allison couldn't play herself and get it--I think thems the rules.

Emmy Timeline, From goldderby.com
I got this from a site for Aaron Sorkin. I thought it was well laid out and that it would be of interest to anyone following the Emmy's.
JUNE 1, 2006 - MAY 31, 2007
During this eligibility period, networks blitz voters
with sample campaign DVDs of their best work. Unlike
the Oscars, the Emmys distribute the DVDs to TV
academy members on behalf of participants. At the
Oscars, film studios and producers must campaign
directly to voters. The film academy refuses to get
involved but does scrutinize the process from the
sidelines, acting as a ruthless police officer to make
sure general guidelines are followed. There are other
key differences to Emmy and Oscar campaigns: Emmy
campaigners are permitted to decorate boxes with
graphics and quotes from TV critics. Oscar campaigners
must ship DVDs in blank cases.
The TV academy charges fees based on how extensive you
want to campaign -- to all 13,000 members or just
certain branches. One major network budgets $500,000
for a mixture of both kinds of campaigns each year. In
addition, it spends millions in advertising.
It also costs money to participate even without a
campaign. The Emmy is the only major showbiz award
where that's true -- the Oscar, Grammy and Tony are
free. The TV academy claims that the fees are
necessary to offset the charge of its complex and
costly judging process.
If prime-time shows wish to be eligible for Emmys,
they must be submitted for nomination. That can cost
money ($100 to $400 per entry) if you're not a member
of the academy. If you belong to the Academy of
Television Arts and Sciences, or ATAS, you get to
submit a few entries for free, then must pay for
additional entries.
Participating actors and programs must submit one
sample episode of their best work that they wish
judges to see when determining nominees. They can
switch this later for the last voting stage when an
episode sample is scrutinized again.
JUNE 4 - 22
All 13,000 members of the TV academy can vote for the
program entries, checking off a paper ballot after
studying an eligibility list at the ATAS website. But
only actors can vote for actors, directors for
directors.
JUNE 30 - JULY 9
Judges screen sample episodes (one per contender) of
the Top 10 finalists for best series and acting.
Judges screening the series races had to attend panel
sessions in L.A. and New York City. Actors could vote
at home and mail in the ballots with an affavadit
attesting that they've seen everything in a given
category (all 10 DVD episode samples). Judges rank all
10 episodes against each other, 1 to 10.
JULY 12 - 18
TV academy accountants take the judges' scores and mix
them up on a 50/50 basis with the results of the
original popular vote of TV academy members that was
used to determine the Top 10 finalists for the
pre-noms lists. The five contenders with the highest
combined scores become the nominees in each category.
This process is different from the method used last
year when judges' scores determined the five nominees.
The popular vote was merely used to determine the Top
10 finalists.
The current process is only used for the series and
acting races. The nominees for all other categories
are determined exclusively by the popular vote
(academy members checking off a paper ballot without
being required to view sample video).
JULY 19
At a news conference held at 5:30 a.m. at the TV
academy headquarters in North Hollywood, the
nominations will be announced by past nominees Kyra
Sedgwick ("The Closer") and Jon Cryer ("Two and a Half
Men").
AUG. 6 - 31
All winners are determined by a screening process.
Voters are limited to participating in four categories
each: two in their peer group (acting, let's say) and
two program categories (best comedy series and TV
miniseries, for example). Typically, the average voter
signs up to judge two races.
Judges watch sample DVDs and sign an affidavit
attesting that they viewed everything in a given
category. They rank entries 1 (best score) to 5.
Actors are judged based upon one sample episode. In
the series race, contenders submit 6, which are split
into 3 sets of 2 pairs that are distributed randomly
to voters. Contenders are permitted to change the
episode sample they submitted for the first round of
voting.
Creative Arts categories: DVD screeners are shipped
out by Aug. 6 and ballots must be returned by Aug. 24.
Telecast categories: DVD screeners are shipped out by
Aug. 13 and ballots must be returned by Aug. 31.
AUG. 25 - SEPT. 15
Academy accountants tally the votes. In each category,
the contender with the most number 1 votes wins. The
other rankings are used only in case of a tie. In
other words, the Emmys do not use a weighted ballot,
granting contenders partial votes for the number 2 and
3 rankings they receive.
SEPT. 8
Creative Arts Emmy Awards are held at the Shrine
Auditorium.
SEPT. 16
Emmy Awards ceremony and telecast at the Shrine
Auditorium.

Updated Emmy top 10s, Letdowns and where there's still hopehttp://goldderbyforums.latimes.com/eve/for...8764/m/53210546It seems like top 10 series pre-noms and lead actor pre-noms are in and Studio 60, Matthew, and Brad all missed out. As have Amanda and Sarah who both submitted for supporting actress. It's kinda hard to make the top 5 if you're not top 10.
There aren't full lists out for supporting so you never know, Steven could still be on the pre-nom list. That doesn't mean he's on the top 5 but to me it's good to know you got that recognition. I thought our guest stars were strong so don't count them out. Also watch for Matthew Perry for The Ron Clark Story. He's been included for nominations by the Golden Globes among others for that so there's a strong chance. No kidding though, to me Steven Weber even making the list would make my day. I'm pretty disappointed for Matthew and Brad though. They had something special on this show and someone needs to recognize what strong work they both did.
On the 'at least there's some things to be excited about even if they're not Studio 60 related' I enjoy Kyle Chandler's being on the pre-noms for FNL as well as Patricia Wettig and Rachel Griffiths for Brothers & Sisters. John Krasinski and Masi Oka are both pre-noms so that's fun from my perspective.

Emmy nominations!, Woohoo! We got us some silver liningsOur series tally for Emmys: 5! As opposed to none which frankly I wouldn't have been shocked by considering our luck. There are some silver linings and I present them to you now. We have a reason to watch the ceremony now.

1. Tommy Schlamme's up for directing the pilot.
2. John Goodman and 3. Eli Wallach both up for guest actor in a drama. Hopefully they don't cancel each other out.
4.Casting
5.Cinematography
We didn't get the main prizes in acting or series (knew most of those were coming). Aaron missed out but competition for writing in a drama is always hard. Shame nothing for Steven Weber but there were shockers in the drama and comedy series category for starters so I guess forgetting Steven is gonna be low on the list of snubs this year.
On a semi-OT but still *yay!!!!!* note: Matthew Perry got a nomination for The Ron Clark Story and the tv movie also got a nomination so go Matthew! Maybe his work on Studio 60 will get indirectly recognized here. They could recognize him for both by giving him the award for the movie.

This one's gonna be tough but I really think ours is the best. Seriously they ate up our show by cast pedigree alone. Here's the competition and you hit two of them already. Grey's, B&S, The Tudors, and Friday Night Lights. Our direction for a pilot is up against FNL's so there's two areas where we go head to head with them. We actually got more noms than FNL did. 30 Rock (which I enjoy) got a huge load of them. Kinda predictable if they liked Two and a Half Men enough to throw a large number at them.

Here is what E! had to say about the nominations...
QUOTE
The one-and-done Studio 60 earned a respectable five nominations, including one each for guest actors John Goodman and Eli Wallach, but none for star Matthew Perry. The former Friends player still got in the Emmy game, though, thanks to his Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie nomination for the TNT true-life teacher tale, The Ron Clark Story.
Perry's competition: Huffman spouse William H. Macy, up for TNT's Nightmares & Dreamscapes; Jim Broadbent, up for HBO's Longford; Robert Duvall, up for AMC's Broken Trail; and Tom Selleck, up for CBS' Jesse Stone: Sea Change.

What's this!!!!! 5 Emmy Noms, +2 for TRCS, and I don't even get PM'd!?!?!?!
Whooooooooooo---HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Take that No Body Cares!!!!!!!
Where's Eoneal!!!!! I wanna do a Chandler dance!!!!!

PS Hi Everyone, and no, I still don't have my laptop (almost more of a drama than S60 -- if you can imagine THAT!!!!!!!)

I think it's funny that Studio 60 got more then Saturday Night live which it's sort of based on. Not surprising because as Wes said "this show used to be cutting edge politcal and social satire but it's been labotimized (sp?) by a candy arsed broadcast network"

It's great to come back and see emmy nominations! It will be an excellent way to stick it to NBC.

Go STUDIO 60! We could use one last Hoorah, as well as a "Stick It" to Nuthin' But Crap.

funny how only a couple of shows received more emmy nods than the other shows.... it's too bad that they were not in bigger catagories then we could really get 'em...
Let's just hope that we win them all and then we can still shove it in there faces....
