First of all not a big fan of Momma Donnelly. She's gotta go! Jimmy needs to calm down a little. Its never a good thing to watch someone who is a junkie. Can he be a psycho and still kick the smack? I'm telling you its not a fun thing to relive, lost my brother to that crap! I'm not trying to get sympathy just saying it would be a good show without that! I'll still watch! I think Jimmy is funny at times but then he takes five steps back when he picks up the needle. I know they are trying to keep it real but I don't wanna see real I wanna be entertained!

I disagree with you when it comes to ma donnelly because, even though she can be kind of a b*tch, I really like her character! I am with you 100% though against Jimmy's drug addiction - don't like it AT ALL. they need to get rid of that aspect of his character.

I disagree with both of you about Jimmy's drug addiction. This is another attempt of the writers to show the gritty and true to reality world of intercity New York. In real life people have problems, the Donnelly brothers are no different.
One must almost remember that you can not judge a character (or the writer's depiction of a character) based solely upon the first season. The first season was a short one and the story would have lasted at least 4 seasons. It's my guess that the writers used Jimmy's addiction as another hurdle to overcome in the future.

I sympathize your statement, but can't just switch roles for a character. I think he has a good character, he shows most rage of the donnellys and it's gotta come as he is, he was sent to rehab once but didn't even go, its the way of the character jimmy is, you'll like him and hate him at the same time.
As for the ma, yeah she's a hypocrite and she's meant to be disliked in my opinion.
It's good the way it is, because of all the drama the story got better and better, thats how the shield got so big.

Jimmys' drug addiction is only a problem to others, not to himself. Or at least he doesn't see it as a problem. That's what addicts do, they block it out, don't see it for what it is. Every once in a while a light will turn on in his head, "Hey, I gotta stop this", then just as quickly, it's gone.
I personally think it shows great depth in the writing of the show. And we hopefully will get to see Jimmy kick the habit in a future season. It gives us something to look forward to. Jimmy redeeming himself.

I think the show is amazing the way it is. The writers are incredible and I have no doubt that whatever they have in store will be amazing. I'm not so sure that Jimmy hasn't already started kicking the habit. In some of the scenes, it kind of looked like he was on the fence and was confused on which way to jump. And of course, Joanie will help him because I'm pretty sure she's done with the stuff.

I think Ma Donnelly is showing her toughness because she feels she needs to be both a father and mother to her boys. Again maybe this also could be as seen in the eyes of Joey. She might have never liked him and this is the way he sees her in his eyes as he is telling the story. She is raising 4 boys in a very tough neighborhood. She cannot break down her wall or she will crumble.
