It's about time NBC started addressing the poor programming decisions and the less-than-impressive fall schedule. Too bad this didn't happen earlier.

Below is the link to the article:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070528/tv_nm/...Z17itdZRQYE1vAI

Here's a little bit of information from the article:
The report said possible successors to Reilly include internal candidates such as Katherine Pope, an NBC program development executive; Bonnie Hammer, president of NBC-owned cable channel USA network; and Jeff Gaspin, president of NBC's cable division.

Independent producer Ben Silverman, who has brought several hits to network TV, is also a possible successor, according to the executives quoted in the article.

I'd love the chance to discuss the position options with those with hiring/firing decisions. Any good corporation that is struggling (as NBC clearly is) would hire from the outside. That sends a few messages: We need some fresh ideas; all of the higher executives are somewhat to blame; if you're not happy you didn't get the position, you're free to go. Hiring from the outside may make some of the bigwigs start looking elsewhere, because it may make them feel as if they've reached the ceiling for their employment. That could help NBC get back on track. Not that I'll be watching, but I will sit around and enjoy the repercussions of the recent debacle that is the fall schedule.

I think I'm going to start writing NBC on this topic now. Writing gives me so much satisfaction.

It's getting more and more interesting. Apparently, they're offering the job to Ben Silverman, the producer of Ugly Betty and The Office. He's an outsider, but all of his programming comes from other countries, and he just translates them into programs that are appealing for American audiences. That gives me pause. There's nothing like relying on copying a good idea rather than coming up with one on your own.

Here's an update:
It's now official that Kevin Reilly is gone. Go to the following link for a NY Times article. The very end of the article indicates there will be more changes coming...

What I hope it means is an improvement in programming. But I'm not sure that it will. From articles I read, it appears that Reilly was effectively put on a leash. He was only allowed half the pilots that other networks were...so he had a position, but not all the decision-making power that was appropriate for the position...

I'm wondering what will happen with Ben Silverman...He may end up worse off, because NBC might be buying his company...

And I don't think America will either.
