I dated this one girl and we had this conversation. When asked what her perfect date is, she said
'If you're going to the hardware store, then my idea of a perfect date is going to a hardware store. If you're practicing guitar all day, then my idea of a perfect date in sitting in front of you and listening'. That was actually a really sweet thing to say. But then I broke up with her that week.
My perfect date - Strolling around the lake at night during the winter. A crisp cold evening with clear skies and a full moon. A light snow falling. We'd be all bundled up with coats and scarfs. Holding hands and sipping hot chocolate.

I love the fair as a date! The fair is funtastic!
When we were first dating(it was summertime), my husband and I went to the park ALL the time late at night. Usually it was after the other part of the date was over (the dinner, the movie, the play, or whatever) then we would go to the park and swing, walk on the trail, talk, kiss ... It was the first place we held hands, where we had some of our most important conversations, and where we really got to know one another.
We still live close to that park, and we take the kids there. Now we make all kinds of new memories there. But we always share a sly smile when we pass the swing where we first talked about getting married.

a great first date for me would be going someplace quiet, not with tons of people. Have a nice conversation, take a walk in a park. And maybe do something silly after so everything isn't so serious or stiff. What makes a great first date as well, not talking about the ex's.

She refused to wear dresses! I made that clear from date #1 that never wearing dresses was a deal-breaker for me.
DATE #1Girl "So what kind of clothes do you like on women?"
RC "Skirts and dresses. Anything soft and feminine."
Girl "If you're expecting a girly-girl then this won't work out"
RC "I guess it won't work then. We can still be friends though"
Girl "No, wait! We can make this work"Date #5 (I had already wasted 5 dates trying to 'compromise')Girl "What about a bikini bottom and t-shirt?"
RC "No, not into that. Sorry"
Girl "A halter top and jeans"
RC "I like that less"
Girl "That's ridiculous that you're trying to make me dress a certain way."
RC "I'm not trying to make you do anything. I just want to date someone in a dress."
Girl "No, wait! We can make this work"2 weeks was enough of trying to deal with this. I cannot deal with a women in t-shirts and jeans 24/7. I just wanted her in a dress sometimes.

Mrs RC wears a dress about once a week. She has many nice skirts and dresses in her closet.
Doesn't Pam wear a dress every day to Dunder-Mifflin?
This girl I briefly dated was completely opposed to ever wearing a dress. She hated dresses and even mini-skirts. She wore jeans and t-shirts. She also wore slinky and sleavy looking bedroom apparel (I didn't like that either). G-strings and thongs too (hated that as well). She was stuck-up too. However, she was really really good looking

I would have been totally cool if it was a self-conscious type issue. But she had no problem parading around in the grocery store in a bikini bottom and t-shirt.
She viewed dresses as being 'weak' or 'submissive'. I disagreed. There were a couple of occasions that I wanted to take her to a nice restaraunt. But if I'm going to wear a tie for a nice dinner she should really wear a dress. So we just didn't go.

But do you agree that at times it's appropriate to wear a dress? That's what I was asking for - a nice dinner out where she wears a dress.
The other women I dated around that time period all had attractive black dresses to wear out. They were short cut and stylish. In fact, with everyone else, when I'd suggest a nice restaraunt, they would automatically choose a dress to wear.
I can certainly understand jeans/t-shirt for daily wear, but I really think a women should dress up sometimes.

Well, yeah, if you're saying she wanted to wear jeans and a T to a fancy dinner, yeah, I agree. But she could look just as nice in a nice shirt and dress pants. But it doesn't seem to make sense for the same person who thinks dresses are submissive to parade around in a bikini bottom. Incidentally, this conversation is bringing back faint memories of another. Did we speak about this girl before, maybe in this thread? Something seems familiar here!

We may have talked about her before. She's the one that bragged about never having a guy break up with her. She always did the breaking up. And I knew several guys who were very distraught over getting dumped by her.
She would have considered Pam Beesly a 'total loser' for both her look and attitude. This girl was the anti-Pam.
When I've seen the Playboy Mansion on TV, those girls look and dress like she did. It seems that those Playboy girls are always either in jeans or bikinis.

Me too! I have way too many skirts in my closet. I love to wear dresses, and I love all the different styles of skirts there are now. I think I have between 50 and 75 skirts -- far more than trousers or jeans, even though I wear pants more often. I wear skirts every Sunday, and not because I go to the kind of church that looks down on women who don't, but just because I don't get a lot of chances to wear them since I don't work. I also wear a skirt or dress every time we go out somewhere that is NOT the movies (I would never, ever, ever wear a skirt in a movie theater). But I will however, wear one when we go to the theater (the live theater, which we do a lot). I don't know why I really think that's different. *shrugs* Yay for skirts!
BTW, my husband prefers me in jeans and t-shirts. Of course, if I refused to dress up at the appropriate times, I am sure he would hate it, too, RC. I know, for a fact that he is very proud to be with me when we go to weddings, etc. because I make the effort to "look effortlessly feminine" (as he put it once).

I'm thinking they're trying to get you to discuss/reveal what cultural rites and rituals you would follow or find yourself in the middle of meeting, dating, and becoming a member of a new family. Concentrate on cultural rituals. Who asks who out, who pays, dating rites, meeting his family and rules about interacting with his mother, father, siblings. Will you follow traditional male/female rolls in the relationship, etc. Good luck Pam, you always do well.
