NBC > Reality > America's Got Talent

Yes, there are a lot of good singers, but I think they shouldn't have singers on America's Got Talent. That's what American Idol is for. I was so mad last year that a singing girl won the show. If I wanted to see singing I would watch American Idol. It's not even really fair to think that all those people with interesting talents who put a lot of work into them are just going to get beat by somebody who sings. If another singing person wins, not only will I not want to really watch the show anymore, but people are going to be discouraged from participating because well, a singing person is just going to win anyways.

Singing is a talent and this is a talent show. I am sure that the judges would not let them through if it wasn't good. Besides, Piers is one of the judges… I don't think he is going to let anyone through… biggrin.gif

I've got a 15-year-old son who plays guitar and sings. American Idol doesn't allow instruments and his guitar playing is an integral part of his talent. Also, one must be 16 in order to audition. Therefore, next year he's going to audition for America's Got Talent. cool.gif

I also like seeing groups and they don't have the opportunity on Idol. They were auditioning again for Making the Band (boys).....not sure the age limit on that, and might be over...google it.

Thanks, QuadMom! I'll check it out!

In my opinion, AGT is the perfect place for singers. Idol seems to want to manufacture a pop star. Nashville star wants country music, but at least brings in the songwriting aspect. AGT can keep the type of music wide open (but it has to have commercial appeal if they want to sell CDs), and can add instruments and original songs, so it can be much more than Idol is. Frankly I love seeing live music, but can't imagine sitting through a magic show, animal act, dance performance, or many of the other things on AGT. Why not pick a singer -- that is where the audience is.

I agree with you houstontvfan. We should get 20 singers in the contest. Fallon and Cas should be two of them.

I agree with this completely, in that solo singers without instruments need not apply.

I have to agree with a lot of this. We already know America can sing. I can't, I know not everyone can. But there are shows for singers.

Granted the groups and ones who need the instruments and the youngers ones belong here,it's not just about singing, which is what the judges seem to think. It's more of a common talent than anything. Instead of taking on so many singers, some of the other acts, like the baton twirler, could have come in place.

The singing acts they picked were good, but some were better than others and some could have gone home.

I wish that the other acts weren't at such a disadvantage but our culture is very singing oriented.

I agree that it is the perfect place for bands and singer. AI doesnt allow singers to play instruments and certainly sing their own songs which is a talent in itself. You would think that playing an instrument, singing a song that they wrote, and singing well would be a triple threat. i.e: Cas and Fallon. But Fallon was nixed for it. It is one thing to sing someone elses stuff. But to write a song that is good and play and sing. WOW. Hopefulyl, Cas will represent this triple threat since Fallon is gone.

I will be going to a statewide talent show this week, and if years past would give me any indication, the majority of the talent will be singers. Thats just what most peope who go to talent shows know they are going to end up seeing. There always seems to be ventriloquist, gymnist, dancers, and piano and such, but I would guess more that 50% of the acts will be solo, duet or bands. Talent shows are just like that. I really don't mind myself, and am really pleased that AGT has kept the talents as verstalile as they have.
