First of all, loved first season. Many of tonight's talents were good.
I think they got the rest of the show right off the formula. It worked for Idol, so it must work for NBC. I may be foolish, but I expect a little more.
1. Who is this wussy version of Simon? Has he ever worked or acted or done anything to entitle him to shred people so mercilessly? He doesn't even have original material, and delivers his insults like he's reading them off a screen. Show a little more bottle, mate.
2. Paula II. Sharon is better than that. That fake running away bit in the middle was so pulled-from-a-springer-show I almost blew-my-groceries. We know she's smart and sassy. Why is she retreading a hack from another show?
3. Did they have to copy the "Other Show" in every way? Do they think we need manufactured controversies in the middle of the show to keep us interested? Do they think if they brutalize decent contestants (like the Romanian guy) we will hate Mr. Simon Lite enough to tune in again?
Notice I do not say anything about Hasselhoff. He didn't say anything! He has had two long-running shows that were nothing if not entertaining (and weren't supposed to be anything else). I know there's more to him than playing the Randy role.
Frankly, I would be happier to see three original personalities. American Idol has been done. I'm tired of it. I want something new. "Synergy" cannot be copied. Let the judges do their own thing and contestants like the ones you have already shown will make the show a hit.
