So I had a migraine last night, and sometimes, despite the headache, that's the time when I think about things (anything to distract me from the pain...).
I thought about the protests we've all been doing...everything from letter writing to mailing tissue boxes to emailing, calling, faxing, and most importantly, not watching NBC. I've been so adamant about not watching NBC, but an idea dawned on me last night as I was looking at my DVR.
Many of us have flat out said we're no longer going to watch NBC. That will definitely drive down the Nielsen ratings. But as I looked at my DVR and realized that the finale of Law & Order SVU was recorded, and I never watched it...a new idea dawned.
New Protest Idea 1
If fans of NBC shows are having a hard time giving them up or if they are not planning on giving them up, an effective form of protest (perhaps even worse than not watching) would be to watch the show, but to watch it after they can affect the Nielsen ratings. I'm not sure what the true time period is, but I know that after a certain amount of time lapses, even if you watch the show, it doesn't count. I don't think I'll watch the NBC shows, but I just thought I'd put that out there.
New Protest Idea 2
This protest kind of isn't a protest, but it's the "big mistake" factor. Law & Order Criminal Intent was moved to USA. Wouldn't USA look stupid if suddenly that show was the biggest thing on USA? Or if it did at least as well on USA as it did on NBC. I think I'm going to invest a few hours time in the show. If it holds my attention (as it did in the past...while it was running on the same night as Crossing Jordan), I'll keep watching, and hope that the ratings remain strong.
Protest Idea 3
This one's not necessarily new, but I like the idea of haunting the NBC executives...with the cancellation of each of the new fall shows (and the struggling current ones), I'm going to send a postcard that says "just think...you cancelled Crossing Jordan for this? I'll probably do the same thing each time their ratings dip or when they go from 4th to 5th. I figure I'll be busy...but I've purchased the postage-printed postcards from the post office. They'll be great to use for such purposes.
Any thoughts?
