Full Version: Why is the show about the judges?
NBC > Reality > America's Got Talent

Why is it during an action routine is the camera constantly going to the judges? I want to see the acts not the judges reactions to them. If the performer is just singing or there is no action is one thing, but they do it in the middle of performances and you can get fully into the act.
Also, why is this show about the judges? That whole bit about Sharon walking off after an arguement with Piers was ridiculous. Put on more acts and leave the judges out of it.
Please please please let us see the talent and not the judges.

This must be the first time you have watched this Kind of show. The first series of episodes are previews of acts that did and didn't make the cut, some of the more outrageous acts and some of the best acts. There are 4 of these shows, then you get to the actual competition, it's no different than the Idol shows where you have a few of shows of the original acts that tried out. Once they actually get into the competition in a couple of weeks you will see far more focus on the acts.

Just another thought about the judges.
If the show, last year, had been more about the talent and less about the judges we would have been able to see Bianca's encore last year instead of the show cutting off because it ran over.

Then explain to me why last year as the weeks went on it continued to be about the judges. It also does not explain why the cameras cut to the judges during such acts as the acrobatic martial arts guys. I wanted to see the act not the judges reactions to it.

Actually I did explain it, guess you didn't get it. These are prerecorded shows, not the live shows that you get when the voting begins. So the directors have spliced and cut and pasted the heck out of these, you didn't necessarily miss anything, they could easily have shown both the act and the reaction all in the same clip and it just appears to you that they cut away. You know it isn't really about what YOU personally want to see, it's about what the producers think will be entertaining for the masses. If the ratings are any indictaion it seems to be working. Personally I don't mind seeing the judge's reactions at all in this stage, it would matter when voting is important though.

Can't comment on last year as I didn't watch it last year.

Its a sad commentary that we need to see the judges reactions before its ok for you to react. This is exactly why I dont watch most shows like this because its not about the talent its about people like Simon being a greedy egotist.
Don't kid yourself when they cut to the judges the act doesnt "stop" you can hear the music continuing.
So, what you are saying is you watch the show for the judges, not to watch some cool and bizarre acts. Another sad commentary is that we have become a nation of voyers.
Now youre going to say... So don't watch it if you don't like the implications. That's exactly why I don't watch Idol and am disppointed in Inventor. This show has some really cools and strange stuff that is cool and am willing to sit through the BS. I don't care about Piers storming off- last week- or Hasslehoff storming off this week. I want to see more acts.
Wouldn't you like to see more acts?

NO I said nothing of the sort, why are you putting words in my mouth? All I am saying is this is the first 4 shows that show mostly acts we will not see in the competition and some that we will. They are simply the highlight shows. Once the shows begin that have the acts that made it, you will see mostly the act and not the judges. If these highlight shows showed each of the acts in thier entirety it would be a waste of time. Acts that move on you will be able to see, the ones that didn't, well too bad. Even in Idol some folks are lucky to get a few seconds of fame during the first highlight shows, that isn't the point of the highlight shows at all.

You mean like they do with commercials? What a novel idea. rolleyes.gif

It's too bad many don't get the concept of audition episodes though.

True... but mostly it's not that there may be bad talent in the auditions that bother me... it's the whole "behind the scense with the talent's sob story" and "judges walking off the stage" stuff I roll past.

Also I don't need a montage of all the acts that got rejected because they were rediculous... I'm really just watching the acts that I get to see in full and how the judges voted.

Thank you thats what I'm talking about. Show me good acts and bizarre acts. Don't give me judges antics and sob stories.

I believe that the negativity is not what the show should be about. i agree that there was a lot of talent that we didn't see. how disapointing. is this what talent or American is about? I feel sorry for the judges and think there should be a better filter of acts before it gets to the judges, let alone on the air. I feel there is also too much about the ones that don't make it. seems a lot like the Jerry Springer show, which I refuse to watch. I really enjoyed the last two episodes, but may stop watching the show if the negativity and stupidity continue. sorry.
