SOD polled fans about what they love and hate in a survey at www.soapoperadigest.com. The results are in the 7/12/07 issue. Along with other questions, they asked, "Which couple would you most like to break up?"

And the answer is:

"Hands down, the top couple was Shawn and Belle."

DS said, "I am sick of the 'Shelle' show." LM added, "Both characters were put together too young. The characters have never done anything independently, their stories have always revolved around each other."

And before any of you Shawn/Belle fans ask...No, I am neither DS nor LM. But they do voice my opinion on this couple.

Now...discuss.

I'm still up in the air lately. I used to say that they were meant for each other but now I am not so sure. The s/l's haven't been that great lately. The actor that played Phillip before this one came back, to me was a definate no for Belle. I like this Phillip. I am glad he is back. I know that some characters are pulled through as meant to be, but they may surprise us and say that Belle outgrew Shawn and decide to pair her with Phillip. That wouldn't disappoint me right now. Either one is fine with me.

Well, if I must have Shawn and Belle as a couple on my television set, I'd much prefer the current Shawn and Belle. Kirsten Storms and Jason Cook were way too cutesy for me, and quite frankly, the reason I don't care for the couple. Their constant billing and cooing made me nauseous.

Martha Madison is a more mature Belle. (The character of Belle is whiney, but when KS was Belle, she was either giggling all the time or constantly whining about Shawn because he was always so judmental and sanctimonious with her.)

And Brandon Beemer is so hot, with those amazing eyes and that body, it's just way too bad that I can't stand the character of Shawn.

I'm not a big Shelle or Phelle fan, so this is just a casual observation:

I don't feel anything between Shawn and Belle in their scenes together - it's very forced IMO. Phelle has gotten better, but not enough for me to care about them as a couple either.

I was a fan of the original actors JC and KS, and I thought they played off each other really well. Where I lost interest was with the Jan story - Shawn lost alot of credibility for me as a character with that entire relationship, and Willow was the final nail in the coffin...

Though I didn't mind Shimi at all - I thought they had potential at least, until the writers just gave up....

I wouldn't mind if they took a break for a while and let Phelle at each other.. and just have Shawn helping with Claire..

That does not surprise me in the least! I can only hope TPTB will pay attention to the swing that is taking place against Shelle. Considering the writing lately, I do think they might be.

I wouldn't mind Shelle breaking up and Belle struggling to support herself and her daughter. Oh wait never mind, she'd probably just move in with Mommy and Daddy and go back to her life of riley!

I agree that both characters need to become more independant. Belle of Shawn, and Shawn of Bo and Hope. When Shawn is capable of getting a job on his own merit and stops counting on Bo and Hope to bail him out of every sticky situation he finds himself in, then maybe I can start to enjoy his character again.

I would LOVE to see the end of Shelle. They are boring and have no chemistry together. Time to move on for them both! When it was the Shelle show a few months ago, the ratings hit a huge low, that right there should be a sign!!!!!!!! LOL

I don't care for Shelle but at the moment the only couple I'd like to see broken up would be Stephanie and Jeremy. Maybe it would knock some sense back into the girl.

I agree. I used to love Shawn but they have ruined his character by making him so immature. Sometimes I think they are trying to mirror him as a young Bo. But even Bo wasn't that bad, that I can remember. I think Shelle needs time apart until they both mature a little more. Belle is maturing more than Shawn lately and that is what is ruining them. They need to let Shawn grow up and be more responsible.

That poll is so true. They just need to end Shelle once and for all. Phelle has more chemistry and potential than Shelle ever did. It's time to get out with the old and in with the new.

Shawn Belle

I used to love Shawn and Belle back in the KS, JC days. I liked Phil then, too. Now, the one I like best of the three is MM, and I'd like to see her grow and become a mature, independent mother. I see little chance for Shelle or Phelle at this point. But the couple I would break up is Steph and Jer. Better yet, bump them off the show. They are terrible.

That wasnt even a poll, that was one person's opinion. The writers know that some people dont like Shelle, not everyone likes the same couple. They arent going to break up because a few people write into a magazine saying they dont like them.

There was another poll on NBC that Shelle won. They beat out Bo and Hope, Steve and Kayla and I think Marlena and John.

^Incorrect. It was a Love it/Hate it Poll that asked a bunch of questions, this was just one of them. The opinions they printed were sent in with the polls. This is not just one person's opinion it's apparently the majority opinion of their responses.

Gotta say I agree, they need to be broken up. Belle with both Phillip and Shawn do nothing for me. Why not let her be on her own and grow up and into a strong person. Other than the teen scene they annoy me more than anyone.

ITA, I never liked any version. The results are not surprising. The couple should have ended three years ago.

Of course since it's a Shelle board, they didn't write everything out that NoleDays wrote out in the first post of this thread about the Shelle result, or any of the questions since it's just a brief summary generously reported by a member there. I don't know if anyone has a more detailed account out there somewhere.

Interestingly, on the "Has Shelle Run Its Course" post, over 50% (at one time it was 55%) of the posters on this board think that Shawn and Belle's relationship is over. The others are divided between "No" and "Undecided". So, that's two polls that think the time for Shawn and Belle being a couple has come and gone. Let's all have a moment of silence...

As you can see, this is not one persons opinion as has been suggested. There are many different quotes from different people who wrote in when they voted.

Somehow I feel like I'm jumping into a ball of fire right now but everyone has a right to their own opinions, right?

I happen to like Belle and Shawn and I'm routing for them to be together, just like Bo and Hope.
I remember watching Bo and Hope in the older days and they too went thru a lot of this, however, not as bad as the writers are doing to Shawn and Belle.

I personally think they are both great actors/actresses but the writing for them suck.

At first, I simply could not see the chemistry between these two but I have seen it improve. I thought JC and KS had GREAT chemistry and perhaps it was just hard to convert to MM & BB who didn't have much chemistry at all in the beginning. I regretfully admit that Belle does seem to have better chemistry with Philip right now, but in no shape, form or fashion am I routing for them to be paired up. I believe Philip is up to something. I think Philip views Belle as a prize possession and will do whatever it takes to get her, but then what?

I would like to see Shawn and Belle get their own place, both get a job and raise their daughter together. I would like for Shawn to go back to school and become the attorney he was meant to be. (Uncle Mickey is gone and Frankie left town too, who is the attorney on this show now?) Belle, well I don't really know with her. I'm not sure how good she was with the fashion theme but perhaps she could become an executive at Basic Black (if that still exist) and excel right past Kate!

I will always be a fan of Shawn and Belle, probably because I grew up loving the Bo/Hope scenes, but I will admit I have been extremely disappointed in recent scenes with Shawn and Belle.

As a final thought, we all seem to have our favorite couple. We all tend to have a character or couple that we don't particularly care for. Why are so many people attacking others because they don't view the same opinion? Isn't that what makes us all so different?

#1 Rafe and Sami. I really don't get the hoopla when it comes to Rafe and Sami. If EJ wasn't even in the picture. I would still consider Rafe and Sami as a boring couple without a doubt.
#2 EJ and Nicole. EJ has lost his sparkle and brain cells with Nicole. Enough said.
#3 Philip and Stephanie. The writers should have never gotten rid of Owen. Owen made us realize just how much Philip and Stephanie are boring together. Owen is out of the picture. Now, look at Stephanie. She is an emotional basketcase.
#4 Lucas and Chloe. Good grief. Yawnfest for sure!!! They do not have an ounce of chemistry whatsoever!!!
