I hope people actually come in this section to discuss this quote, and Ryan!
Mindy Kaling recently gave an interview about one of the reasons why Ryan and Kelly came together:
“B.J. is a writer and we would spend 14 hours a day writing, and then I think (executive producer) Greg Daniels noticed our dynamic and thought it was funny because we squabble a lot as writers. And then I think that it was because Ryan was almost too straight as a character. He didn’t have a lot of adversity in the office. So to have this character be completely smitten with him made his character a little more interesting.”
Ryan wasn't a dynamic enough character without Kelly. I completely agree with this. Even though we had Michael's crush on Ryan, there was still something missing about his character. So, they gave him Kelly.
Now that he doesn't have Kelly- will Ryan being boss be interesting enough for his character? Is the Ryan/Kelly dynamic over for good, or just onto its next phase?
Ryan with any other girl but Kelly I feel will be complete boredom. Ryan actually being happy with everything in his life- or admitting happiness? Not in his character.
What are they going to do in season 4 about Ryan? What will happen to his character without Kelly, if they go that route?

Ryan+Kelly is greater than the sum of its parts IMO. I'm not convinced that Ryan is done with Kelly, or should I say that Kelly is done with Ryan. I think we're going to see some really good moments between them in S4. I also can't forget Ryan's explanation for being with Kelly, "I don't know. . . . can't explain it."

Ryan and kelly in S4 will the best Ryan and Kelly of all the Ryan and Kelly's.

I agree! I think that Kelly being obsessed with Ryan - whether it's in a smitten-school-girl-crush way or a hel|-hath-no-fury way is bound to yield comedic results. The complete flip-flop in Kelly's feelings (I think it was Johnny Paycheck who sang "there's a mighty thin line between love and hate...") together with the flip-flop in Ryan and Michael's positions with the company (look who's on top now - TWSS!) will open up new avenues for the writers to keep things fresh and extend the longevity of the show.

ITA. I think they are going to be soooo much more interesting now. Kelly wont be silently crying at the copy machine because he didn't remember their date, and she wont be complaining to Toby that he didn't return her call. Everyone will be airing their Ryan grievances out loud, and Kelly and Michael will be at the forefront. Of course, Ryan is the boss, so it will be delicious to see a bit of necessitated restraint when Ryan actually shows up in Scranton. Oh man, its going to be sooooo good. I really think I am looking more forward to this dynamic in the show than I am Jim and Pam. They're dating, blah blah blah. Kelly as the woman scorned by the man that just because her boss? Whoo hoo!

See and herein lies the brilliance of these writers. Take
that everyone who said Jim and Pam getting together would be the death knell of the show.

So are you guys (gals) saying that you don't think they are going to go with "Ryan after Kelly," at least in the sense that they're totally over?

Ryan thinks they're over, but there's a stalker-in-waiting back there in Scranton who may have other ideas....

i totally agree that it can get even more interesting now that they're split. it's gonna lead to more funny scenes when ryan comes into town. between the ryan/kelly dynamic and ryan/michael dynamic..... i think we're in for a real treat.
