This kind of prejudicial, nasty, immature statement is ridiculous. You must think that you, yourself are perfect. I'm sad for you. People of all sizes, shapes, colors, and creeds have value. Even you. Your statement makes me want to toss my cookies. Grow up.

Oh look. It's the so-called MD with no compassion! (Picked that up from another message board) You must not be finished bashing the Glamazons or overweight people yet. You need to realize that most overweight people would much rather be a healthy weight. It's not as easy as you seem to believe. Overweight people should not be made to feel worthless by people like you. The Glamazons do not say overweight is good, they say you should love yourself and have self-worth no matter what you look like. I am sick and tired of the skinny as a rail people who are held up as the ideal in this country. You can be plus-sized and be healthy and happy. I'm sad for you, too. Your kind of closed-mindedness must keep you from relating to your patients. If you are in fact an MD, you would be the type that I would warn my friends against seeing.

Props to you.
I completely agree.. I mean its one thing for you to want the girls out because of their talent, or lack of, but wanting them out just because of their size is ridiculous. Plus, I thought they were pretty and I loved the message they were pushing.. HOWEVER their outfits were a bit risky.. but I would have thought they were risky for anyone regardless of their size.

I would be with you all the way if the Glams didn't market their obesity (i.e. skimpy outfits). There were other overweight performers who didn't make their weight a centerpiece of their personality. I can assure you that if people picked on those performers just because they were overweight, I would be the first to condemn it.

I am indeed flattered I have become so popular!! Anyway, I am not going to cry myself to sleep because no one here wishes to see me in my practice- your loss- trust me. I do not need to deal with people who are not proactive about their health and choose to be fat and lazy. Yup, I make contracts with my patients- I will do my part to make sure they stay healthy but they have to do their part as well. And that means diet and exercise and listening to me and a nutritionist. No super-size this and that. I am well aware a lot of people have weight problems and are not happy about it and feel stigmatized but they are not defiant and obnoxious about it like the Glamazons. There is a lot of ignorance spoken with authority by you. The data does not support your arguments- being fat is a tremendous health risk. I am surprised- my patients are thrilled that someone actually CARES enough about them to nag them about their weight and health.

I do not understand why YOU do not understand that my point was the Glamazons send the wrong message- to sex-up plus-size figures in fetish costumes is not attractive. It is not a positive message to women of any age. Frankly, I am not sure I would endorse women with no singing and dancing abilities (like the Glamazons) having svelte figures in those kinds of costumes trying to get votes for being lurid. I think this kind of risque act denigrates women and they should be ashamed of themselves as should you.

I'm not ashamed.

I enjoyed their act and my wife says she didn't feel denegrated. They weren't going to win the $1 million, but they entertained me.

I didn't judge them based on weight and I didn't think that they were wearing fetish costumes.

I found them to be somewhat refreshing in their self confidence and accepted them for what they were - four women who gave up their day jobs to follow their dreams (that's a direct quote).

Interesting that you " do not need to deal with people who are not proactive about their health and choose to be fat and lazy". So what do you do, reject them as patients and tell them to resign themselves to a life of suffering? Last time I checked the Hippocratic Oath kind of strongly suggests that you treat everyone who comes to you.

Oh well, you're right, I won't be coming to see you (at least knowingly), and I don't feel that it will be a loss.

Well-said. Odamae has made this clear from the very beginning regarding the questionable message being sent by the Glams.

You still don't get it. The Glamazons never said they wanted to glorify being big. They said "you can be sexy at any size" and "it's about getting to be the best person that you can be in the body that you have," but I can't remember them ever telling America to go out and get fat.

If you're the doctor you claim to be, you should know the value of confidence; a lot of people get fat because they've been conditioned to aspire towards this impossible Hollywood image, and when they can't meet it, they lose confidence and drown their sorrow in ice cream, and that never go out and exercise because they're terrified of having their appearance in workout clothes mocked by hordes of shallow, overbearing people like you.

What the Glamazons provided was the first step: A sense of confidence. If you want people to eat right and exercise, start by showing a little acceptance for them so they can actually feel safe leaving the house to get some exercise.

Well, Mr. so-called MD, for your information, I am not ignorant about the risks of being overweight. But believe me, there are lots of people who are 40 lbs. overweight that ARE healthy, in fact much healthier than some people who are skinny as a rail, throw up their meals in an effort to stay skinny, and turn exercise into an obsession. You call that healthy? Not in my book. I'd rather be 40 lbs. overweight and love myself for who I am.

My issue is with your lack of compassion. Folks with weight problems are not necessarily FAT AND LAZY (your words). Some of us have truly struggled and struggled and still remain overweight. Your kind of put-downs and lack of respect for your fellow human beings is disgusting. Should overweight people accept labels like the kind you give out and sit confined in their homes ashamed to get out and enjoy life for fear of being called names? You are the worst kind of bully.

As for the Glamazons - they are not encouraging everyone to get out and be fat. They are promoting a positive self-image, no matter your size. And what is wrong with them feeling attractive? I for one did NOT feel denigrated or ashamed or shocked. My husband was the one that said "Wow. Look at those ladies - more power to them!" Everyone is right - they did not have enough singing talent to win it, I am not arguing that. But I give them credit for having the guts and the self-worth to give it try.

Many of the people that had a problem with the Glamazons had a problem with them because they were big girls wearing sexy outfits. Singing or not, if it would have been a bunch of skinny girls up there dressed in similar fashion, you probably wouldn't have been grousing about it. OUr media is covered with images of young, thin women wearing skimpy clothes and does society have a cow about that? Quite to the contrary, generally speaking. It is accepted, sad to say.

Oh yeah, Mr. MD, you are perfect. I'm sure you are God's gift to the planet. I'm glad I don't have you for a doctor. I want my doctor to be my partner in my health issues, not someone who will put me down and label me as fat and lazy.

As stated previously, any performer who is wearing clothes that detract from the performance are subject to legitimate criticism on that matter. The Glams fell into that category.

Also, I feel the same regarding excessively thin models (or singers/movie stars) and the questionable image they present.

I guess in many ways the Glamazons won. They are out of the competition but people are still talking about them.

Dr. OM...do you recommend that your "patients" have sex with their partners or wait until they are bony marony?? With the crap you have been spitting out, I wouldn't bring my worst enemy to you.

JMHO!!!

Dont confuse notoriety with popularity!

As a member of a "caring profession" you should be ashamed of allowing your personal bias to interfere with your practice. Your previous posts have demeaned women, and in particular plus-sized women far more than any costume, act, or fellow poster.

Any health care professional who used the kind of terminology your posting contain with a patient would be (or shoud be) reported to the Board.I just don't envision a lot of people looking forward to an appointment knowing that they are going to be berated for their appearance.

God forbid that one of them might have the audacity to show up at the office wearing an outfit that revealed any cleavage!

I seriously doubt odamae's claim of being an MD, since he/she shows little knowledge of current research into obesity. Just shoving away from the table is not necessarily the cure to the disease. Many people are influenced by their genetic make-ups, thryroid problems, insulin resistance, and other chemical imbalances that make it extremely difficult to lose weight. Further studies are also showing that stress levels and sleep patterns also affect weight gain/loss.

The lack of respect for other human beings is apparent, and this person really should not be in a profession where compassion and respect for patients is a requirement. (If they are truly an MD anyhow.)

If he does not like the Glamazons or any other act based on their talent, that is one thing. Making rude comments on their weight is quite another as well as making sweeping generalizations of overweight people being "fat and lazy". It smacks of junior high behavior and is just plain ignorant.

I started reading this board because I was entertained by the Glamazons, even though their voices could be better. I admired their guts and I admired their confidence in themselves. Odamae's comments really pushed my hot buttons, therefore I was compelled to reply. I'm not posting any more comments on odamae - it's a waste of time that is better spent commenting on these message boards with other fans who can voice their opinions in a constructive manner.
