B.D. Wong returns to “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” as Dr. George Huang, a forensic psychiatrist and expert on the criminal mind. Executive produced by Dick Wolf, this series is the second installment of the "Law & Order" brand.
This series chronicles the life and crimes of the Special Victims Unit of the New York Police Department and the elite squad of detectives who investigate sexually based crimes. Wong, now entering his fifth season on she series, portrays Dr. Huang, whose insight into the minds of the accused, often provides significant clues that lead to the resolution of a case.
Quote:
Wong gained notice as a cast regular on the critically acclaimed series “Oz”, playing the resilient prison priest Father Ray for the show’s five-season run. Other television credits include a starring role in “All-American Girl”, “And the Band Played On,” “Welcome to New York,” “Chicago Hope,” “The X-Files,” “Bless This House” and “Shannon’s Deal.”
Wong has also appeared in more than 20 feature films, including Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park,” “The Freshman” opposite Marlon Brando and Matthew Broderick, “Father of the Bride” (the original and sequel), “Seven Years in Tibet,” “Executive Decision,” and most recently “The Salton Sea” starring Val Kilmer and Vincent D’Onofrio. Wong can also be heard as the voice of Shang in the Disney animated film “Mulan” and “Mulan II.” He will soon be seen in Marc Forster’s “Stay” starring Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts.
Wong is the only actor ever to have received all five major New York theater awards for a single role. For his performance in “M. Butterfly,” his Broadway debut, he received the Tony Award, the Drama Desk Award, the Outer Critics Circle Award, the Theater World Award, and the Clarence Derwent Award. Additional New York theater credits include “The Tempest,” “A Language of Their Own,” “As Thousands Cheer,” and the Broadway musical revival of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” in a critically acclaimed performance as Linus. Last season, Wong starred in the Roundabout Theatre’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Pacific Overtures” for which he received a Drama League nomination for distinguished performance.
Wong recently published his first book “Following Foo: (the electronic adventures of the Chestnut Man)” (Harper Entertainment), which chronicles his son Jackson’s struggle for life after he was born 11 weeks premature.
Born and raised in San Francisco, California, Wong currently resides in New York City.

Thank you for making this board!
I think Wong is one of the best (and cutest) characters in Law and Order: SVU. I noticed there wasn't any proper boards giving him justice.. Though I was too lazy to make one of my own

Again, thank you for making this board.

I like this character. I love how he stands up for the victims when he sees the need. He plays by the rules and tries to get the others to do the same. (not that they break the rules all the time....)

Actually he admits he was not playing by the rules after they get the rapist to confess in Philadelphia. He knows what they did was wrong and illegal. He went along with it anyway.

well shoot. i guess he is gone too. i thought he was a "good ruler follower" on everything. but we are not perfect. it does make for good drama.

Right. Gotta remember that. I was sad he wasn't on at all in this week's episode.

Does anyone know about his character more info? Didn't he one time talk about having once a wife and things not working out? Everyone has the rebel fault in them sometime. As long as you learn from the mistake that's what counts at least to me.

Not to mention the guy does his research. As a psychology doc student I love coming up with the same stuff in my head and hearing him say it.

Can anyone give me a list of episodes that Huang plays a bigger-than-normal part in? Preferably in seasons 5-8? Or perhaps some good, non-romantic fanfiction? I'm a forensic psych student, and I'm on a major Huang kick right now...

Yep..He's gay. He was in a 15 year relationship with Richie Jackson (A NY based talent agent). In 2000 they had twin sons via a surrogate, but one died about an hour after birth. His book (Following Foo) is about the journey that they took to having the babies and the struggles that Jackson went through to survive being born 11 weeks premature. I believe they split in 2004.
Now on to my small contribution to this wonderful board..since my first one got deleted by my browser..grr.
On September 27, 2008 I had the pleasure to see B.D in a little known one-man musical called
Herringbone at the Berlind Theater on the campus of Princeton University. I was blown away. This man has more talents than I thought anyone could possess. He was a singing, dancing and acting machine. He has so much energy, I was exhausted watching him. This was the 3rd time I'd seen him in a musical..and by far my favorite. I saw him previously in You're A Good Man Charlie Brown and Pacific Overtures. After the show my friend, who works at Berlind, and I hung around and she introduced me to him. He is the sweetest, most gracious and humble person you could ever meet. He's really funny too, I love his sense of humor. Definitely one of the best nights of my life, one I'd been looking forward too for the 11 years that I've been a fan.

I remember one episode when he was upset about something dealing with a child because it was a close to home sort of thing. His character had a close relationship with a child relative and the case was a lot like the situation that happened with him. I wish I could remember more with it but that's what popped in my memory but we as viewers got to know some of his personal life and see some emotion from him. I think one reason why the character is such a great psychiatrist is because he is in control of his emotions with a case and can worry about the patient and not himself.

I wish we could see more of him. I was happy he was on though last night.

Aw that's so sad about the babies!

That's neat about you getting to see him live like that. Someone mentioned earlier he was Shang in the Disney film "Mulan." Do you think he sang in that too?

He unfortunately did not sing for Shang in Mulan..it was Donny Osmond (IDK why..) who sang for Shang. The only time that the same person acted and sang the same part was the Mandarin version. I soo wish that he had sung for Shang. B.D's voice for the acting..then Donny Osmond's for the singing just didn't work IMO..
Oh BTW if you remember what episode that is that you talked about in your first post above could you let me know..because for some reason that one's not really ringing a bell.

Any serious TV series nowadays must have its gay character or couple. It's a diverse world now. When he starts smooching with Capt Kragen, though, I'll change channels.

A lot of gay men of Cragen's generation married for appearances sake. Frankly, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if, in the next season or 2, we start seeing bedroom scenes with Wong and other men.
