Full Version: Why Studio 60 got poor ratings - IMHO
NBC > NBC Extras > NBC Vault > Primetime Vault > Studio 60

I am from the UK and absolutely love the show, HOWEVER, I have found it so difficult to follow the dialogue, its so fast and particularly in the case of Amanda Peet, almost indecipherable. This is not just a difficultly with the American accent, she mumbles and a fast mumble at that! Matt Perry is by far the best deliverer of dialogue on the show. I rather suspect that the great American public got fed up with trying to decifer the dialogue, however good the show is if its difficult to understand, people will switch off. What do you think?

Just thought it was too smart, should have been on the cable.

Really? I thought Matt Perry is one of the "mumblers". When I watched the Christmas Show and I couldn't understand most of his lines! (maybe because my TV is crappy by that time, but anyway...) To me, Bradley Whitford is the best dialogue deliverer. Is S60 over in the UK?

if you think they mumble, don't ever go to New Orleans..... lol.... you really won't understand us at all....

If they talked like Yats I would have had no problem understanding them. happy.gif My hubby's from New Orleans.

I really didn't have any trouble understanding any of the dialog. The performances were perfect. Too bad the idiots on the Emmy panel didn't think so. They really should have won Best Casting. mad.gif

I'm Swedish and don't have any problem following the lines, Jordan's or anyone else's (and I don't have subs). My only problem is that I won't be able to keep following those lines, since the Studio 60 is put down. A really sad realization for me, especially since my netework just bought the rights and appearently started to show a serie allready put down! That's deceiving. Why, o why didn't you Americans watch the show to a wider extent, so that the ratings went up? I've worked as a director for plays and I've to say that the class of the manuscript, performance and directing are outstanding in Studio 60! It ain't television, it's magic!

It was a smart show, that's what made it so good... I'm tired of these "stupid" shows, sitcoms and reality T.V. S60 was the wittiest show on T.V. The ratings would've come...

Speaking of ratings get rid of neilsons, and get a deal going with Tivo@ to sample "season pass" data. I think it would give you a better idea of what people across the country are watching... certainly better than the sliver that neilsons samples. If something like this was in place, I think S60 would still be in production.

Every week I'd wait anxiously for the next episode of S60 and I'm livid that my favorite show has been cancelled. I've lost all faith in NBC to produce and keep gems of entertainment. It makes me not want to start watching any of thier new series, as I fear they will be cancelled.

It's sad to realize that this is the same network that waited for shows like Hill Street Blues and St Elsewhere to develop their audience. Remember that killer Thursday Night line-up? Tartikoff is probably spinning in his grave.
