In the pilot she's the quiet Asian woman on the Nerd Herd. But did anyone else see her on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip as the college student from Macau? She was delightfully entertaining with the comedy. I hope her role expands a bit.

I agree. Julia Ling rocks. She's so beautiful and funny I hope we see more of her too. It's a great show. Morgan is so cute (played by Joshua Gomez) and Zak is a pro as always. I'll definitely be watching next week!
HanzPro
I agree too, she has been entertaining in all the other shows she has been on as well. The season is still early though, hopefully we'll see more of her later. I hope we do see more of her, especially since they could do many unexpected twists with her role.
evilpaulc
I saw "Anna" in the first episode, but she didn't show up in the second one. Anyone know what's up? I was hoping to see a little more of her and what Anna would turn out to be in Chuck... or is she just a filler character... that would be a kinda waste. It was good to see Adam Baldwin show up on again. I hope they let his role develop more into something as interesting as on Firefly. Anyway, hope Anna shows up again with some of the odd quirky type of things she's done before.
Dilbert27
IMDb has her listed as being in five of the seven episodes filmed so far. I'm just guessing that, like her role in "Studio 60," she'll be used when the story calls for her and is not a "main" enough character to be shoehorned into places she wouldn't ordinarily be like Morgan or one of the agents might be.
theocfan2
Haha she's so cute in Chuck!
evilpaulc
Ya, she is cute. Watched again tonight but she still wasn't on. Maybe these are the two out of seven episodes she's not in. Since they really don't have many characters they've introduced I'm hoping she's one they build on to add some interesting geekyness to the Nerd Herd. Every time I go to a Frye's I see the real world Nerd Herd... none as cute as her though.
AzizalSaqr
She was in tonight's episode, she is one of the Nerd Herd. She was one of those working on the broken computers while Chuck was at the party.
HanzPro
Yeah, she was in the last episode and it was quite entertaining, especially when she was doing that dramatic "noooo" as the gate was closing, and then after the gate was closed, they all just left as if like "oh well".
evilpaulc
Okay... you're right, she was definitely there, multiple times. I went back and watched it online again tonight. I must have kept stepping out of the room at the wrong times Monday night. They certainly made her look different... but all cool looks. It's nice to believe there might really be geeks out there who look like her.
Final Boss
I agree. The show needs more of her. Maybe a romance with Morgan. Or would that be like nerd incest? Either way, give her some more screen time.
AzizalSaqr
Well, technically Morgan isn't one of the Nerd Herd so it wouldn't exactly be the same...guilt by association maybe...
HanzPro
wow, I had always assumed he was part of the nerd herd too, but now that I think about it... just realized he's more part on the sales team & other duties than the nerd herd.
AzizalSaqr
Yeah, Morgan is a Green shirt..not a Nerd Herd.
Misguided_Badger
Okay, I don't normally post, but I've been watching and had this idea I wanted to run past the community... Anyone else get the feeling that Anna has alot more depth and potential than has been developed so far? Consider:

At first she just seemed to be a punk/goth nerd, but recently there have been several hints to the contrary. For instance, in the web exclusives on the Chuck site, there's a little segment where she does some kung fu. Okay, so Anna knows Kung fu... but what was interesting was that she bows/salutes before and after the routine, which is very traditional... in stark contrast to her nonconformist attitude on the show. Looks to me like she had a really structured upbringing, where everything was disciplined and she learned some traditional Chinese skills, like kung fu. Suggests that perhaps the tattoos, the makeup and the attitude are all part of a personal rebellion against her parents/family/traditional pressures. The job at Buy More fits with that idea too.

She also made that comment about putting a contract on Tang, which while hilarious, also suggests possible connections to the criminal element (she seemed serious!). Given the disciplined and cultured background, she might have some sort of connection to the Triads... maybe her father, or an uncle? I get the feeling she isn't working at Buy More for the money.

Anyway, my guess is she grew up under the thumbscrews of a very traditional family associated with some bad people, and she left the family to live alone as a sort of rebellion against it all. Add in that background to her rather, ah, sensual nature (and ability to use it to get what she wants), and she stands out among the herd as a really odd piece of work I expect we'll see more of. In particular, I think she makes a great foil to Morgan, since he has slowly been growing a pair since the show began, and actually gives a darn what happens. Anna, in contrast, is very comfortable and confident but just doesn't seem to care.

My congratulations to the writers of the show for creating supporting characters with so much detail and potential. Can't wait to see where they take the Buy More sidestory.
chuckluver
Super points Badger.

I think there is some serious back story in Anna. She is the most interesting character at the Buy More. The Triad idea is delicious. I have some strong suspicions that there will be some Anna/Morgan sparks. She brought him a drink the morning after the Cage lockup in the Tango episode and she looked totally hot for him when he ate the crisper crap.
crzybill
"Morgan is so awesome. He can eat anything"

That line is classic!!!!

They say that Morgan is getting together with an unlikely girl, I wonder if it is her. I see them getting together, and I think it will be almost as good as Charah.

If it turns out to be true, that would make a great story... perfect "opposites attract" personalities. It could also bring a little bit of comic levity to the show when the Chuck/Sarah bits are depressing and angst ridden... if Chuck/Sarah = Charah, does Morgan/Anna = Morganna?

Another great Anna moment:

LESTER: Now, Anna, your turn, super power, what would it be?

ANNA: Anna... I would give myself a six-foot tongue with the agility of a jungle cat and the power of a jet engine.

LESTER: ... Wow... strong.

ANNA: Oh, you have no idea.

You have to love her (and the herd).

I'm totally in sync Misguided Badger -- I can see a lot of potentially interesting storylines with Anna Wu's character. And the actress who plays her has got a really interesting, unique quality -- I'd love to see her weaved into future story arcs. cool.gif
zzetta13
Chuck/Sarah = Charah, does Morgan/Anna = Morganna?

Since we're talking couples and buddies here what about the comic relief duo of Jeff and Lester?

Do they become Jester? Seems to fit.

She and Lester are awesome in those vid clips. The new one with those two is hilarious! I think that both of them should be more and more featured...!

I remember reading in an interview somewhere that she was a chemical engineering student in college before she left to pursue acting... she probably feels right at home playing a nerd (if Anna can actually be called a nerd...) on tv.

I agree. I would love to see more of her.
Misguided_Badger
I saw her on Grey's Anatomy the other night... her performance was excellent and she was beautiful as usual, but... what is she doing on another show?!?

NBC, please don't lose "Anna" to another network! Anna and the herd are a big part of what makes Chuck the best show on television!
charliegreen
I saw her too on Grey's Anatomy, but she was only a guest right? She rocks on Chuck, so funny and I love her voice.
nemo1999
I read on IMDB that she can speak five languages or something like that. It would be funny if she turns out to be sleeper for a foreign intelligence service.
JReed1957
Just wanted to Add to the forum, I love Anna please keep her. She really looked different in this last episode. And I love those sexy High Heels! They drive me crazy!
JReed1957
I think they should add Anna to the list of main characters, I would like to learn more about her.
iridium
I first saw her on studio 60 and she was hilarious there. I think it's common for actors when they are not full cast members (but recurring characters) to continue auditioning for other shows to increase their exposure. We won't lose Anna unless she gets an offer as a full cast member, but that usually happens at the beginning of a series' season, not midway. So good for her =) Keep it up Anna, your vid clips are too funny, not to mention your heartbreaking "Fine Ellie! you can have him" during vs. Nemesis.

Wow, you've sure got some pull with the network. rolleyes.gif
chuckfan23
^ Wow! Thats was a good call.
Misguided_Badger
Hey, check out this answer she gave in an interview she did before she got on Chuck. How many other girls in Hollywood roleplay, do you think?

Would you prefer your Shao Lin Kung fu or Samurai training?

I feel more at home with Shao Lin because it's more about dexterity, stealth and attacking vulnerable points quickly. I grew up training in flexibility and quickness. I role play Dungeons and Dragons sometimes, and one of my favorite characters to play was an elfin princess. Elves have a higher bonus in dexterity and they move very gracefully. I love graceful.

The rest of the interview is here:

She looks totally different without all that makeup on blink.gif
HanzPro
I would pick Shaolin too lol. Although the choice would be harder between Shaolin and Ninja. But you can be both!

Shaolin Ninja! Away!
CodeNameChuck
I missed Anna the last two episodes; though with the one it was explainable; Morgan had to have some Ellie time. But in Vs. The Marlin, you'd think she would be in the store while all that was going on.
Nun_Chuck
I was thinking the same thing. I'm just wondering why the writers don't at least give a reason for their absence. The same thing happened to Ellie and Awesome for an episode or two where they didn't show. They could have said that Anna went to Taiwan to see her folks or something like that. You'd think Morgan would miss her. But in the last two episodes, Morgan acted as if he and Anna never had a relationship.
CodeNameChuck
Well with Ellie and Awesome, it was explainable; the main story arc was kind of large those episodes. But the circumstances in these last two could have allowed Anna to make an appearance. That makes me think that the actress who plays her was unavailable.
Phuel
Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I just think it's very odd that she wasn't even mentioned. It's like her existence just disappeared from the world and all the characters' minds. Maybe those internet clips with the sword got her dabling in the arts of ninja...she learned to vanish without a trace, but not how to UNvanish.... =)

Ya, that's what I think. But they still could've had story for her absence.
CodeNameChuck
She might have been written into the script, which was done a while before filming, and if she was unavailable when it came time to film, they wouldn't have created a storyline for the absence; they just would have taken her interactions out, especially with, at the time, there being no writers.
IwuztheOffice
^That must be the case. I never thought about that.
Lily1
yea, I noticed her absence too. And it was totally unexplained. The action didn't really involved her at all. But still, we are used to her being around, and especially involved w/ Morgan. I think we regard her as more of a major character than she was originally intended. And after Crown Vic, we really want to hold onto her!
CodeNameChuck
How much do you guys like Anna? I'm not quite sure yet myself how I feel about her.
IwuztheOffice
^ I like Anna. She's an interesting character. I like the fact that she keeps Morgan in line smile.gif
CodeNameChuck
I just think she doesn't have her own identity yet; and I want her too, and then I can really like her, if that makes sense.

Julia is a cutie without the Chuck makeup.

Yeah, she looks a lot more... innocent.

But not like Morgan's Buy More Gamer Chick. smile.gif
Lily1
you realize now that Anna could potentially be a new agent for "field work?" after Casey's call in for a background check? Think of the position that'd put Morgan in, w/ both Chuck and Anna living a double life: he'd be surrounded! I am imagining all the possibilities: she would be such a fantasy Jet Li figure, flying through the air w/ her karate skills! ph34r.gif Ha ha!
CodeNameChuck
Casey's face when he saw her fighting... rolling.gif I almost died. smile.gif

We were talking somewhere about how Anna would be the perfect person to find out about Chuck's secret...
IwuztheOffice
^Me too! I couldn't stop laughing laugh.gif
Lily1
if she was recruited, even if just for training, it would make a double triangle: now Chuck, Anna and Casey would be in on the secret, in addition to the already existing triangle of Chuck/Bryce/Sarah. It would really add another layer of complication. Buy More and Spy world would infringe on one another more and more. Poor Morgan! I note that the writers never do anything haphazardly: if they had casey notice Anna, it was for a reason.
chuckfan23
^ I hope Anna doesn't become an agent. That would be to much spy world.
