"NBC dramedy Chuck got some sampling in the 8 p.m. hour, with a second-place finish in both total viewers (9.28 million) and adults 18-49 (3.6/ 9). But comparably that was off by double-digit percentages from the first half of a two-hour edition of former occupant Deal or No Deal one year earlier. Chuck led into the second season-premiere of Heroes at a healthy 14.12 million viewers (#2) and a first-place 6.5/15 among adults 18-49 from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, Heroes debuted on the year-ago evening with 14.09 million viewers and a 5.9/14 in the demo.

WOO HOO - Chuck got 9.28 Million viewers!"

I will contunue the watch I think it is a good lead in to Heroes. My favorite part of the show was the "ninja" fight, cracked me up. Poor Chuck.

Not that I am bashing anyone on the NBC show boards. But, why does eveything have to be a rip off of something else with some of you tongue.gif ?

"Everything that is new is old, and everything that is old comes to be new again." It is very hard to be completely original, because it has all been done before.

Just an observation.
crossfire
Another action/sci-fantasy with a main character having a deer in the headlights look, totally clueless and somehow coming up short in reality. Never mind that destroying his computer would not erase the e-mail from the server and thank goodness than he didn't access his e-mail with a monochrome monitor/cell phone; the show is entertaining enough. It's interesting that Bryce would even know Chuck's e-mail, much less have it entered on his device, when they hadn't seen each other or spoken for years; and if Bryce knows Chuck's e-mail and considers him a "safe" recipient for such valuable info, why doesn't Sarah know of Chuck? They obviously were an item and being in the "spy game", she would have no doubt have access to Bryce's past. Lots of obvious unanswered questions that were simply ignored, but details are what makes a show interesting.
No matter. The techno-geeks will laugh at how impossible it is and the folks who could care less about electronics might stay for the action and the blonde.

Ok, I like the show Chuck thus far. I'm not trying to bash it. But the chase scene in the beginning of the show was a COMPLETE ripoff of a French movie called District B13. I don't know if the creators of this show were banking on the fact that probably alot of Americans haven't seen this movie, but I still think it's kind of crappy that they did it. I mean, it's not just similar to it...ALOT of it is almost identical, scene for scene.

Don't believe me? Check out the proof.

Chase scene from District B13
Comments please.

That's what's known as a "nod". I loved it for sure. Too bad Bryce is dead--or is he?!!
MsPlaced
I love CHUCK! The detail is fantastic--very Repo Man, imo. I'll watch again on Saturday just to catch the stuff I missed due to extreme laughter. To continue making comparison, Chuck is NBC's answer to Ugly Betty. Maybe someday after sindication, Chuck will move back east, or Betty will move to LA, and they'll . . .OK, that's just silly.

NBC certainly rules Monday nights now. That's 3 excellent hours, all in a row.

Me? I'm a LOST/HEROES/CSI SIN CITY/BETTY/CHUCK fan. You'd have had me for The Black Donnelly's still, but you went and wacked 'em. Oh well, this is enough TV for me.

Hurray for Premiere Week!

Ok, I saw the pilot episode and there are some GLARING issues with this show.
1. The computer with the "Government Secrets" was an Apple IIe.

I think it was actually a Macintosh Classic, but I'm not a hard-core Mac person, so I don't know for sure. It was definitely a Mac keyboard, though.

QUOTE
2. The handheld took several minutes to download the data from the computer but took seconds to send the file in an email? Umm NO! Someone hasn't ever tried to send a movie on 3G before.

Yeah, their computer technology props are somewhat uneven. They seem to have really snazzy graphics for some things (like the portable) but very simple ones when it's very important that you read the screen (for the Zork quote, for instance).

And you're quite right, they don't seem to have a concept of the ideas of storage and bandwidth.

I LOVE MONDAY NITE ON NBC!

Hi everyone, I'm FiFi.

Chuck is great. I am married to a software programmer, so this premise is perfect. Adam Baldwin is just perfect in this role. It is as if he was born with a government badge and gun in hand.

I hope NBC doesn't mess up my mondays. Leave it just the way it is, OK!!?? sly.gif
gevmage
I don't think that the writer of the "Zork" part of the episode was quite on; I don't think the person who wrote that really knew Zork.

First of all, early in the episode, they pronounced "Zork" strangely, like Zooooor-k. But then when Chuck is doing the reveal at the end to explain about the e-mail, he pronounces it normally.

Secondly, I don't think the answer is correct. I always remember killing the troll with the Elvish Sword; although a quick glance at a walkthrough reminded me that you do have the knife at that point in the story.

And the whole "we programmed a version while we were in college"? That doesn't add up. The girl at the party said she graduated in '02, so they all started college in 1998.
- First off, that's well past the hey-day of Infocom's text interactive fiction (of which Zork is one)
- They talk about programming it on a TRS-80? In 1998? That only makes sense if it's a vintage computer project.
- Finally, you don't port Zork. Zork is a game that uses Infocom's Z-code language and interpreter. Once you have the Z-code interpreter for a platform, then you have all the text adventures you have data files for.

Anyway, it's a cool throwback as a plot device, but the details are lacking.

I love the show, by the way, and I love the reference to Zork. That was just a little jarring.

From NBC Universal Media Village

At 8 p.m. ET, the series premiere of "Chuck" (3.6/9 in 18-49, 9.3 million viewers overall) scored NBC's highest 18-49 rating in this time period since April 30. Pending updates, "Chuck" ranked #2 in the time period in 18-49 and total viewers and #1 in all key adult male demographics, versus competition that included the season premiere of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," the season premiere of CBS' "How I Met Your Mother" and the series premiere of "The Big Bang Theory," and Fox's "Prison Break." Versus NBC's average in this time period last May, when the competition also included ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," "Chuck" was up 16 percent in 18-49 (3.6 vs. 3.1).

"Chuck" built by 18 percent in 18-49 rating from its first to its second half-hour (to a 3.9/10 from a 3.3/9).

Finall NBC has come up with an exuberant show! I loved the pilot and I now have a favorite show to watch on a boring monday night. Im almost even debating about downloading the eps. from Itunes to put on my Itouch. This show rocked & Sarah will keep me watching wink.gif

Does anyone know if you can import the downloaded episodes from Amazon onto your Ipod?

I'm still on the fence. I like Chuck himself and his relationship with Morgan (I got a few small laughs out of them), but the action scenes were annoyingly cartoonish. The tone is tricky in a show like this. You've got the NSA guy saying with apparent seriousness that it's OK to kill the CIA woman; then she's comically throwing daggers and poking with hair knitting-needles. I don't think that works so well.

I also know from Adam Baldwin's other roles how much he can bring to a character, but so far NSA guy is pretty flat (though his killer Buy More employee could be fun). We'll see.

This is my attempt to collect some of the big unanswered questions about the show, as of the premiere episode.

We know that Bryce defied both the NSA and the CIA and blew up their collaboration computer. Why? Was he working for one or the other, or someone else? [This is presumably a central mystery to the series]

Given that the riddle in the message was specific to Zork, it's most likely that Bryce sent the message to Chuck deliberately. Why?

We, the audience, know that Sarah and Bryce were involved, but she's keeping that from at least Chuck. What did she know about Bryce's sabotage? She acts like it was all a surprise, but she may be lying about that.

Why can Doug's brain hold a massive amount of information from a computer? Is this just another sloppy script point (like the Mac Classic Supercomputer) or is this a plot point? Is there something abnormal/modified about Chuck that made him the specific target of the CIA/NSA info dump? Was this something that Bryce had prepared well in advance, even while they were still at Stanford?

So what happened to Lisa? She was with Bryce when Chuck left Stanford, but years later, Bryce was with Sarah. Sarah isn't Lisa, or Chuck would have recognised her. Is she still floating around? There's very definitely a "Lisa" in Bryce's e-mail list when he's scrolling through it.

How much to Sarah's and Agent Casey's superiors know about what they're doing? Are they now considered rougue agents?

And of course there are the obvious things:
Can the NSA/CIA ever recover their data from Chuck?
How?
Can he use the information in a valuable way?
Could the bad guys (not NSA/CIA) get that information?

I really enjoyed this show. I have a class on Monday nights that keeps me from watching both "Chuck" and "Heroes" when they air, but I did manage to tape it. My spouse and I both loved it! My mom didn't even know about the show, but I lent her the tape last night and she loved it as well.

Being a big "Firefly" fan, it was great to see Adam Baldwin again. I kept waiting for him to pull out Vera or that stupid hat. NBC could score a lot of points with a nod or two to Jayne Cobb! The scene at the end where he shows up in the Buy More uniform, flicks his name tag, then crosses him arms... well, I almost fell out of my chair I was laughing so hard.

I also really enjoyed Chuck's character. He's dorky and insecure, but he's just snarky enough to keep the character likable and watchable. He's got a great "poor me" kind of look to him.

I read a lot of the inconsistencies that other posters pointed out, but I honestly didn't notice them when watching the show. It is a little weird that the images are now in Chuck's brain, but I'm willing to overlook that. This show was a nice comedy, and a nice change from the law shows, cop shows, reality TV, and drama that's out there. 10 points, NBC!
SirBrunoM
Chuck works for me. Yvonne Strzechowski/Sarah Waker character is "HOT"!and her acting isn't bad either. I love that her assets will be display, especially when her assets are shown in black,"NIIIICE".

Oh! let us not over look, Chucks sister Ellie Bartowski/Sarah Lancaster "SMMOOOOOOOOOOKIN"!it's just unbelieveable how sexy she is,no guy can blame Morgan for at least trying to push up on her on the sly, yathink. I'm sorry i never seen any of her previous work on Scrubs,Everwood,or What About Brain,"MY BAD".

And Julia Ling isn't exactly choped liver either, she's a sweet piece to, the women of this series combined with the physical comedy works on all levels. I'm still in stitches from the nerd herd moblie going down those stair and those too skateboarders chilling uttering the words"computer emergency"..ha!ha!ha!, to funny. I'm down wit Chuck...Late
gevmage
Oh, and one other point:

Sarah knows that Bryce is dead. Presumably she doesn't know that John Casey killed Bryce.

I assume that's going to be a plot point this season. I'd guess that the arc goes that she'll find out Casey killed Bryce, and/or find out what Bryce was doing, and eventually start working directly with Chuck trying to finish Bryce's work by extracting and using the information currently installed inside Chuck's brain.

Hey all, I gotta say I really enjoyed "Chuck." I had been anticipating it's debut since the first preview I saw involving the Nerd Herd car chase. It's gonna be a great ride with Chuck and Morgan.

The General was played by Dale Dye. He's been a military advisor (and usually appears as a military officer) at least as far back as Platoon. If a show or movie has something to do with the military there's a good chance he's in it.

Hello all...

I LOVE the SHOW!

I'm a computer dude from Central CA and I absolutely loved the pilot! With the exception of Chuck's "DOS override" comment as he's defusing the bomb (why not just say "Hey, I see these computers all the time... they come in for repairs because they're susceptible to..." and then have him go into the search engine, find the link, and download the virus), I'm already a huge fan. I think that techie-types like me will be the best fans of this show, but I think NBC needs to make sure they hire a good technical consultant... if Chuck continues to make somewhat lame technical comments it will frustrate viewers.

Anyway... other than that little thing I'm hooked!

Every character is so perfectly cast, I'm tripping out...

The comedy moments in the pilot were PERFECT! Understated, and timed perfectly. I laughed out loud several times!

The action sequences were right in the sweet spot... not totally cheesy, but also not too over-the-top...

Zach (Chuck) pulled off a perfect mix of comedy and drama... loved the scene on the top of the roof...

I expected great things from Adam (Major Casey) and wasn't disappointed... I can't wait to see him working at Buy More...

Yvonne (Sarah) is absolutely beautiful, great in the action sequences and she has already, in one episode, pulled off the Ross and Rachel romantic tension... I can't wait to see how it develops!

Josh (Morgan) was simply perfect... he won the laugh contest... hope he keeps up the quirkiness

Sarah (Ellie) I fell in love with on What About Brian, and I'm so glad to see her here. I hope that she gets a bigger role and gets pulled into some of the spy games and espionage, because she's not only good to look at but a great actress!

So the show has everything... comedy, drama, action, romance ... I can't wait for the second episode!

Parth...

Chuck went to college with Bryce...

Bryce, worked with Sarah, and it appears they also had a relationship.

The point behind the virus was that when the model's website was accessed, the computer connecting to it was fried, thus, Chuck thought that by connecting the laptop to it he could stop the bomb because the computer would no longer be functioning. He got the idea of trying this when talking to Morgan, who mentioned that his computer had done just that. Chuck then entered the website's addy and when it connected it wiped the computed and shut down the bomb connected to it.

Hope that helps.

I just downloaded the Pilot onto my Ipod Touch. It shows amazingly beautiful on it. Im happy to see it available on itunes.

As for a few concerns, there's a lot to speculate about the various characters. I cant wait to find out why Bryce went rogue. Could it be because of Sarah??? Second, if in fact he is truly dead???

This show has a lot of good poetential, and better plot speculations than Alias. Let's hope that NBC keeps this one.

I have finally officialy seen the pilot. It is more then i expected, the whole episode had just the right ammounts of romance, comedy, action and stupidity. Chuck and Sarah would be hot together! poor Morgan, he's not liked very much lol, maybe Chuck should be more of a friend to him, but i guess thats just the way that his character and other characters see him. Awesome show!
louie
It would have been easy to overplay the characters in NBC's new show 'Chuck'. Geeks and nerds are easy stereotypes. The over-achieving, takes-himself-too-seriously middle manager is another easy one. The goofy friend. The cool sister. The competing spies. All characters we've seen before a zillion times.

But somehow, the creative team responsible for 'Chuck' get it all right. Chuck himself is an extremely likable guy. His problem isn't that he can't get a girl, it's that the one he wanted was stolen from him and now he's happier playing video games than trying to find The Next Best Thing.

Morgan's a great foil, with just the right amount of false bravado set upon those nerdy shoulders. Interactions between Morgan and Chuck are witty, funny and comfortable, without reaching the fever pitch of a Gilmore Girls volley.

Sarah's adorable and smart, and Strahovsky's action performances are great, showing just enough concern, pain and work amidst the hottie-kicks-*** sequences. Even Casey, who at first seemed like he might be the one character that would be single-handedly responsible for the most concentrated doses of cheese, is a nice balance, and, without giving away anything specific, I think episode 2 did a nice job of tightening up the relationship between Chuck, Sarah and Casey and starting to point the show in a direction that is much more interesting than just Good Cop / Bad Cop / Patsy.

This show has some innovative action, laugh-out-loud funny moments ("Who likes magic?") and is even shot and edited in a style that goes beyond the run of the mill.

Whatever the ratings are, I hope that NBC is smart enough to recognize that this show is special and keeps it on the air for a long time.

Trivia: Frosti, from Survivor (sorry, NBC can't have all the good shows) doubled for one of the guards in the Parkour chase scene in the pilot!

Also, it seems funny to me that everyone mentioned B13 and no one mentioned Parkour....except me, of course.

No one can match David Belle, though.

I believe he was working for somebody else, but they weren't bad guys. I think it was a revolutionist group who knew lies were being spread through that computer to both NSA/CIA by another rogue agent who was the bad guy. Bryce was the guy who had access to the computer and it was his job to get the files so they could go through them and find out who was lying.

QUOTE
Given that the riddle in the message was specific to Zork, it's most likely that Bryce sent the message to Chuck deliberately. Why?

I don't think when Bryce sent Chuck the file I don't think he intended what happened to Chuck to happen. I think he sent it to Chuck because Chuck is no-one he wouldn't be a suspect plus he could keep it safe

QUOTE
We, the audience, know that Sarah and Bryce were involved, but she's keeping that from at least Chuck. What did she know about Bryce's sabotage? She acts like it was all a surprise, but she may be lying about that.

She knows she can use Chuck's feelings for her to get what she wants and if he found out she was with Bryce then he would be more apprehensive and not willing to give her what she asks for. Like it or not Sarah is still a spy and will use any means to get what she wants, even if that means stringing Chuck along (I do think she will end up falling for him though)

QUOTE
Why can Doug's brain hold a massive amount of information from a computer? Is this just another sloppy script point (like the Mac Classic Supercomputer) or is this a plot point? Is there something abnormal/modified about Chuck that made him the specific target of the CIA/NSA info dump? Was this something that Bryce had prepared well in advance, even while they were still at Stanford?

I don't know if you meant to type Doug but I find it funny because that is my name. Anyhow, the human brain is capable of some extreme things. We can actually program our brains to do things it wouldn't normally do (i.e. make yourself ill, girls can make their bodies feel as if they are pregnant) so it is possible that Chucks brain was capable of holding all this info without any altering.

QUOTE
So what happened to Lisa? She was with Bryce when Chuck left Stanford, but years later, Bryce was with Sarah. Sarah isn't Lisa, or Chuck would have recognized her. Is she still floating around? There's very definitely a "Lisa" in Bryce's e-mail list when he's scrolling through it.

Some relationships don't last. But for a more detailed I think she probably left him when he became a spy.

QUOTE
How much do Sarah's and Agent Casey's superiors know about what they're doing? Are they now considered rougue agents?

No. I think they have been assigned by both agencies to watch him. The NSA is just taking a more hands on approach by having Casey work with Chuck. Sarah made hint of this on the beach when she said that they will watch him and that he will work with them.

QUOTE
And of course there are the obvious things:
Can the NSA/CIA ever recover their data from Chuck?

not really, we don't know how the human brain stores memories so they wouldn't even know how to access it without a trigger. It is safer just to use him and not try to get it back

QUOTE
How?

N/A

QUOTE
Can he use the information in a valuable way?

He won't use it for financial gain but he is using for protection for him and his family

Could the bad guys (not NSA/CIA) get that information?

Then answer for this one is the same as your recovering question

hope this helped. Now, let's see how many I get right. LOL

no, i dont think that is her. bryce was detailed into the CIA, but he met chuck at stanford. bryce got chuck kicked out of stanford because professer flemming had chuck on the CIA detailing list. bryce didnt want chuck to get hurt so he helped him. sarah was bryce's partner. then there was a relationship between the 2. that is how sarah knows so much about bryce larkin! smile.gif
