'Criminal Intent' detective to face personal trauma
By Dave Mason (Contact)
Monday, October 1, 2007

Excerpt from venturacountystar.com:

"It’s time to see how much this modern Sherlock Holmes can handle.

"Endgame," last season’s finale of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," led Detective Robert Goren to the shocking discovery that convicted serial killer Mark Ford Brody (Roy Scheider) was his father. He found this out just before his mother, Frances Goren, (Rita Moreno) died and just days before the killer was executed.

(Edit: Peachy here...The identity of Goren's father hasn't been established yet. We were left with a cliff hanger, so...don't go bonkers with the reporter's comment; this may just be an assumption and not speaking about a storyline fact yet to be revealed. Okay?)

There’s no emotional relief in sight for Goren. This season viewers will learn more about him and his difficult past.

"There will be an intense test of his mental health," said Vincent D’Onofrio, who stars as Goren...

And

"...The Holmes angle has been emphasized heavily for Goren, but D’Onofrio said he didn’t want to repeat himself. "After three seasons, I pulled back on the character. Now in the seventh season, we’re going to bring some of his back story. Like Sherlock Holmes, he has his personal stuff. We’ll learn a lot about his childhood."

D’Onofrio said he likes the fact his character is complex.

"I don’t think of him as a cop," D’Onofrio said. "I rarely take my gun out."

Instead, Goren becomes someone whom witnesses and suspects feel they can confide in, and the murderers lead Goren to their guilt...

And

"..."The show wouldn’t be the show it is without method acting," D’Onofrio said...

And

...'"The crew and I are Italian; we’re very much like a dysfunctional family. We’re very close. The set is comfortable," D’Onofrio said. "You can be too comfortable. You have to watch yourself (if visitors come by)..."

Patricia Sheridan's Breakfast With ... Vincent D'Onofrio
Monday, October 01, 2007
By Patricia Sheridan, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Excerpt:

"Q: What do you get out of acting?

A: You know, it lets me do my thing. Well, honestly it's hard for me to answer that question, honestly, because it's what I do. My job. You know I get to do the things that I like to do and that's all acting.

Q: Do you put a lot of pressure on yourself to achieve?

A: Yeah, I try to do the hardest things I can do whether it's film or on the show. I'm much more interested in the more difficult episodes to get away with then the easy ones. When I do films, I pick parts that I've never done before and parts that scare me a little bit, so that I can have a thrill out of trying to accomplish it.

Q: Intense seems to be a word used a lot to describe your approach. Is it fair? Are you intense?

A: Um, I don't think so, no. That's something somebody else would have to say. I don't think I am. I think that the guys and the girls on the set here, you know, after six years, they know me pretty well. I don't think they think I'm intense. I don't know.

Q: How do you feel about the fame that goes along with acting?

A: Well I never really used to have it until the show ["Law & Order: Criminal Intent"]. I used to be able to stay under the wire and do lots of films and sometimes get recognized. But the show has changed all that. It was strange the first couple of years, but I've gotten used to it. I have peers and friends that have had to deal with that their whole careers. Some of them handle it well. Some of them don't. I learned from an old friend of mine. He's passed on. Gregory Hines taught me to be gracious to fans, and I've always tried to be..."

And

"Q: How comfortable are you doing the publicity side of business?

A: It's not the first thing on my mind to do. I'm not as good at it as some of my friends. But I understand that it's part of the business, and I don't mind doing print work and stuff like that. I used to do "The View" because my mom likes it so much. But I'm not good on the talk shows and stuff like that. I stay away from the talk shows."

The "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" team is happy about its move from NBC to USA.
By Matea Gold, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
October 3, 2007
latimes.com

Excerpts:

'Adopted by a rich family'

"NEW YORK -- When the cast and crew of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" found out last spring that their show was being moved from NBC over to its sister cable network USA, the initial reaction was relief that the drama hadn't been canceled -- followed quickly by wariness about the change.

But these days, the team behind the third installment in the "Law & Order" franchise talk about their new home with an optimism long missing from the set of the crime procedural, now entering its seventh season.

'Reinvigorated' is a good word," said Warren Leight, the executive producer and show-runner. "Last year was awkward because NBC was going through a lot of changes, and we were not a priority, it's fair to say.'

The move to USA, he said, is "like getting adopted by a really rich family.'
After experiencing what Leight called "benign neglect" at NBC, USA has showered the program with attention, including a large-scale promotional campaign advertising "Criminal Intent's" premiere Thursday.

"It was nice that they had a really fresh energy toward the show, that they were enthused and inspired, something that we really didn't feel that much over at the network, frankly," said Chris Noth, who plays Det. Mike Logan. "USA has really bent over backward to show us that they care..."

And

"...Executives at NBC, which plans to air reruns of "Criminal Intent" after episodes premiere on USA, rejected the notion that they gave the series inadequate support...

And

"...'The show has never gotten the credit it deserves," said **** Wolf, creator and executive producer of the franchise. "It's very frustrating over the years for the people who have worked on it...'

Excerpt:

"...I feel that [the move] saved the show," said Vincent D'Onofrio, who stars on the series as Detective Goran. "I was happy about coming back for a seventh season."

D'Onofrio answered questions earlier this week along with co-star Katherine Erbe, who stars as Goran's partner, Detective Eames. The pair addressed what will likely be fans' first question: Will the show be different now that it's on a new channel?

The differences, both actors said, will be more of an evolution than a dramatic shift.

"Last year [the show] started to be more character-driven, and we're really going to go for that this season," D'Onofrio explained.

"We had a change in our main writer, Warren Leight," Erbe added, "and that really breathed new life into the show."

The series will also focus more on the personal lives of the characters.

"And I think this is good," Erbe said, "because the people I've talked to, those on the street, when they talk about the show they don't talk about the crimes. They talk about Goran and Eames, and how they interact. It's the characters that people ... have fallen in love with, more than the 'Law & Order' formula."

"They never talk about who we caught," added D'Onofrio. "They always talk about how we caught them."

But of course, "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" will not forget its roots as a crime series.

"There will still be some procedural-type shows," D'Onofrio said, "because people like that crime stuff. They like to see us investigate ... and catch the bad guys in the end."

This evolution in the show becomes clear with the season premiere, "Amends," which has Eames go back to re-investigate her husband's murder. Plus, Goran's mental health comes into question later in the season..."

Law & Order: CI's Eric Bogosian Talks TV
Thursday, October 4, 2007
TVGUIDE
by Nina Hämmerling Smith

Excerpt of Bogosian Interview:

"...TVGuide.com: This is your first time as part of a permanent TV cast. Why Criminal Intent?
Eric Bogosian: I had been keeping an eye on all of the Law & Orders since I first did it [in 1992]. The kind of acting that's done on Law & Order is of interest to me. I watch what some of my favorites on the shows do, like S. Epatha Merkerson or Sam Waterston. There's a lot of subtle stuff there, and I admire the humanity they bring to it. It's really an actor's show. There's something special about being involved in a Law & Order in New York City. I don't think there's been a guest star who I didn't know. These are all folks from my community. Law & Order started with the notion that the producers were going to capitalize on this huge acting pool we have in New York. It's a great resource — it's like being next to a gold mine and being able to just take stuff all the time.

TVGuide.com: Did you worry about replacing Jamey Sheridan as the "boss" on the show?
Bogosian: The nerve-racking situation my character was in — taking over the major case squad and dealing with these very strong personalities — I was kind of put in as well. I walked in the first day, and it soon became clear that everybody knew each other and had a system. Honestly, I've never been a regular on a series, and the longest I ever did a movie was two months, so being able to come in and really know the name of everybody, it's like going to high school every day.

TVGuide.com: Are things easier now that you're into your second year?
Bogosian: About halfway through the season last year I started to relax with the situation. Going into this season, I decided to bring that more relaxed quality to the character. For one thing, I now have seniority over one of the characters — Alicia [Witt, who is Chris Noth's temporary partner] is the new person. I'm not the rookie anymore. There was a bunch of stuff I wanted to explore the first year, what I think of as sort of classic Law & Order: the very dour, brooding, dark stuff that you see again and again in the shows. Steven Hill's classic character never smiled. If he smiled, it was as if it hurt. And now that I've done that, I'm interested in letting more of my own color and voice come through in the character. A lot of what I'm doing is talking about the facts of the case; it can be a little dry. It's easy for me to do an emotional scene; the challenge is to make things feel lively when you're doing a bunch of facts about a pile of statistics.

TVGuide.com: How is it working with Vincent and Chris?
Bogosian: They're both very strong personalities. I love working with both of them; I can't imagine doing the show without either one. I really like to work opposite strong people who bring strong stuff to the set. There are days when it can be a little challenging; we get into scenes where we are at loggerheads with each other, but that really has nothing to do with whatever's happening to us personally..."

Excerpt of Review:

"...Tonight, meanwhile, the veteran regulars are back, as is Eric Bogosian as Capt. Danny Ross, who joined "Criminal Intent" last year. D'Onofrio's Goren is unshaven and a bit shaken, still reeling from the death of his mother last season, and from the realization that his father may have been a serial killer.

It's Erbe's Eames, though, who has the most old business to settle in this premiere. The shooting of a cop swiftly dredges up an old case, and old memories, as the victim is the former partner of Eames' husband, who was murdered nine years previously. Before you can say "cold case," Goren is sifting through evidence and punching holes through alibis, suspecting the two murders are related.

"This isn't another one of your puzzles," Eames tells Goren angrily.

"You know that we have to do this," he says quietly. "We have to do this."

It ends up giving both characters more, well, character than they've been permitted in a few years. That's a good direction, though it'll take a few episodes to see whether the exterior shots and other expenses are whittled down noticeably because of cable - and a few to see how Witt fits into the mix..."

From not a fan to a leading lady
Erbe's adventure on law and Order
Al Norton, TV Editor

Excerpt of Erbe Interview:

"...BN: Did you have any idea when you auditioned for the show that seven years later it would become such a major part of your career?
KE: I had no idea. This is probably embarrassing to divulge but I was not a Law And Order watcher. I had never as a NY actor played a part on Law And Order, which is almost unprecedented. My history with it is almost funny; my friend Nancy Perkins cast the show and I was doing a film in Los Angeles at the time, feeling like I would like to give up on acting because my daughter was 5 and I could not take the emotional strain of never knowing if I was going to have a job and never knowing where that job was going to take me. I was at a dinner party at a friend's house and Nancy and I were out on the porch together and she said, "I'm so relieved, we finally cast the lead actor for our next Law And Order series; Vincent D'Onofrio" and I said, "oh my god, who needs another Law And Order series?" (laughing).

Before I knew it my manager was saying, "there is this female lead and they really are interested in you." **** Wolf is very good friends with Tom Fontana, who was my executive producer on Oz, and he had seen my work on Oz and was very enthusiastic about hiring me. I kind of went, "well, it's a New York steady gig. I would be a fool to not go." And that's probably why I got it; it really is hard when you desperately want a role to be relaxed, and I was so relaxed and felt so appreciated that I just went into the part. I had no idea that it would be 7 years and would be this successful and that people would love these characters so much.

BN: At this point you two (Erbe and co-star Vincent D'Onofrio) have your chemistry down but how long did it take you to figure out the rhythms, both as actors and also for the characters?
KE: We had met before, he had worked with my ex-husband, so he had a regard for me and I had a high regard for him, so luckily we went into it knowing each other, and having respect. That was really good because I imagine that's not always the case, and we had to spend so much time together.

It's been such a journey, finding the way our characters work together. It's not just acting; the acting part is both being and acting in order to make it work. Initially For the first four years we were working every single day, you show up with your whole life; we really have been through an enormous amount and have gotten to the place where we are so lucky to have found a way to do this successfully in that we can live and play these parts. It has been an incredible process.

In the beginning Eames really didn't do much. In each scene Gorin would be doing eight feats of detective work and Eames would be back there rolling her eyes, and that really was me rolling my eyes at "gee, I have nothing to do here. This is annoying the heck out of me."

And

"BN: How has the transition to USA gone (up to this point the show has aired on NBC)? Going from a network that has dozens of shows to push, or not push, to one that has 7 or 8, can you feel a difference?
KE: It's awesome. It has felt so good. Obviously NBC had a lot of other shows to pay attention...This move to USA has really been a boost to our confidence. They are really promoting the heck out of the show and it feels really good. It's really flattering. I feel like we'll have more of a chance to have a longer life..."

TV.com Q&A: Criminal Intent's Eric Bogosian
By Tim Surette - TV.com
October 3, 2007

Excerpt:

"...TV.com: We're a user-driven site, so I went to the community and asked everyone for some questions to ask you. What came up most is, "What can we look forward to this upcoming season with your character?"

Eric Bogosian: So what can everyone look forward to with my character this year? Well, this is my second season. My character was new to the squad room last year and I'm in charge of the whole thing. I was new to a show that had already been on television for five years, so there was a certain amount of sort of diving into cold water last year. Sort of tense a little bit. And I think this year my character is going to be loosening up more.

I guess we're moving to a little bit of romance in my character's life. The audience has to watch very closely to figure it out--we're not going to give away what's exactly happening. But, if they're very sharp they'll see the clues. Including clues that I didn't completely understand. For example, when someone brings a box of donuts into the squad room for all the other detectives, that means that something has been consummated the night before. And we just shot that last night. I think basically Danny Ross is going to loosen up a little bit.

TV.com: How did you get involved in the show? Who approached whom?

Eric Bogosian: Well, it was a happy meeting of the minds. I had wanted to do a series. For many years I had resisted it, and then about three years ago I said, "Okay, I'm ready to make myself available." And I had had an eye on Law and Order since they seemed to make a new one every now and then. I had said to my agents, if they screen a new Law and Order I want to be on the list of who they're considering for one of the leads. And what actually happened is that they were looking for a new captain for the major case squad and I was asked over to where they shoot it, over on the West Side, and [executive producer] **** Wolf was there and said, "Would you be into [being on the show]?"

Actually it was perfect for me because I don't really want to be a main guy on one of those shows, it's a lot of time and a lot of exposure that I actually don't necessarily always want, but I love the acting style on the show and I really wanted to be able to do some stuff that was like that. I mean, the show has a very broad dramatic style kind of reminiscent of the very dramatic movies that were being made in the early 1960s and I like that kind of stuff. So, I wanted to be able to do some of it.

TV.com: In the off-season, NBC announced that the show would be moving over to USA. What was the reaction from the cast and crew?

Eric Bogosian: Wild celebrations and joy. No, we actually didn't know what that exactly would mean for us. I think our first reaction was just kind of a little guarded. What does that mean? Does it mean we have different contracts? Does it mean that people won't be able to find us? But it's pretty clear that USA is really behind the show and wants people to know about it, which we are quite happy about.

What we're learning is that we're one of [the network's] six shows as opposed to one of 40 shows, or whatever NBC used to have. And so for USA it's a new show. For a lot of the people on the show, this is their seventh season; for me it's a new show and for Alicia [Witt], it's also new. And I'm all for thinking about it as a new show. And I think getting into it that way, basically all bets are off. We can go anywhere with this. Who knows where it's going to go.

I think Vincent and Katie have been on it for so long, and are always ready to refresh it and say, "How do you make this renew itself?" Because you can't just do the same thing you used to do, you have to find new ways to do it. Good acting is always about letting a little bit of yourself kind of bleed through into the character, and as you change, your character should change when you're doing something like this..."

Peachy, you are on a roll!!!
Thank you so much for all these articles. I can read between the lines that the actors are very excited to start this new season.

I am so looking forward to tonight.

I liked the interview with Erik Bogosian. I had only seen him in the Talk Radio movie, long time ago and I thought he was very intense. He seems now more mature and restrained. Watching the Season 6 marathons I came to appreciate him more. The writers have giving him great lines and sometimes I find myself laughing, even if he never smiles. His delivery is great. I love it in Brother's Keeper how he reads the "Diego" website. I also like the exchanges with Bobby Goren. Although I have read some posters not liking him because he is mean to Bobby, I like the tension between the characters. It makes for interesting TV.

Tie-ins: Marketers Lock Up Time On USA's Law & Order: CI
General Motors, New Line Cinema, Miramax sign exclusive alliance deals.
October 08, 2007
By T.L. Stanley

USA Network has signed General Motors, New Line Cinema and Miramax to multilayered sponsorships of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, which last week launched new episodes on the cable channel.

Each marketer sponsors an episode of the procedural drama and gets the first or last ad break of the hour, considered prime placement, along with on-screen bugs and text, and end credits. As the sole advertiser in that break, the sponsor owns the commercial pod, which lasts 60 seconds to two minutes. That's shorter than average (pods are usually twice as long) and returns viewers to the show in less time. Financial terms were not disclosed.

"Since this is a brand new series for us, we wanted to create fresh opportunities for advertisers," said Chris McCumber, svp-marketing and brand strategy at USA Network, New York. "They can own a piece of the show they can't get elsewhere..."

First-run 'Intent' big for USA

By Kimberly Nordyke

Oct 8, 2007

Excerpt:

"Law & Order: Criminal Intent" came out strong in its first-run premiere on USA Network.

"CI," which made the move to USA this year after airing on NBC for six seasons, averaged 3.8 million total viewers at 10 p.m. Thursday, according to Nielsen Media Research.

USA also has off-net rights to the procedural drama, and Thursday night's fresh installment was a big improvement over the performance of "CI" reruns on the network. Last year, when USA was airing "CI" reruns on Thursdays, the show averaged 1.8 million viewers. This year, reruns have been averaging 2.4 million on weekends.

It's also off only slightly compared with the premiere of "Burn Notice," USA's hit freshman drama series that had been airing at 10 p.m. Thursdays. "Burn" debuted in June with 3.98 million total viewers..."

And

"In both demos and total viewers, "CI" was the most-watched entertainment telecast on cable for the day."

Alicia Witt brings 'Law & Order' to 'Criminal Intent'

By MICHAEL SHERIDAN

Wednesday, October 10th 2007, 4:00 PM

Excerpt:

"Now that the third "Law & Order" spinoff has made its move to its new network on USA, "Criminal Intent" will be welcoming a new cast member - if only temporarily.

Alicia Witt makes her first appearance on the crime show's seventh season this Thursday as Detective Nola Falacci, partner to the forceful Chris Noth as Detective Mike Logan. She'll be replacing actress Julianne Nicholson for six episodes while she spends time on maternity leave. And the short-term gig suits Witt just fine.

"I think that TV can be great, and it's right for some people," the 32-year-old actress said. "It has its advantages. You have stability, and you know exactly what you're doing for nine months out of the year...but for me, I often get bored doing the same character for too long and I like doing different things."

And as she describes Falacci, the character is anything but boring.

"She comes from Brooklyn North as a homicide detective, and she's very smart and very tough," Witt explained, adding that she is also married with two kids. "She's ... unconventional and doesn't really care about protocol."

In her premiere episode, Logan and Falacci look into a fertility doctor's brutal murder. But as Witt explains, we won't see just how Logan and his new partner meet until later in the season.

"We're going to see a different episode where they have worked together for a couple of cases," Witt said. "Then I think in November they'll show the episode where we meet for the first time. And we definitely butt heads and [Falacci] steps on a few toes."

Jumping into the role of a New York City police detective required a little preparation, said Witt, who has been acting since the age of seven, when she played Alia in David Lynch's "Dune..."

Alicia Witt gets tough as Law & Order cop

"...BostonNOW: How did you end up on Law And Order?
Alicia Witt: They asked me and I thought it sounded like a crazy great gig. It's a character I've never played before. She's tough, she's not polite, which I like (laughing)...She's actually got a great sense of humor but she's not afraid to say exactly what she thinks. She's got a tendency to offend people sometimes with her briskness.

BN: Had you watched the show before?
AW: No, I hadn't. I'm not really a TV watcher (laughing). I didn't really make any attempts to familiarize myself with it after I got the gig because my characters coming into the major case squad fresh and I figured it made sense to come into it fresh myself.

BN: Had you ever played a cop?
AW: I played an arson investigator in something but I had not played a murder detective before. I read a couple of books and the executive producer sent me some books to keep me thinking about what it means to be a detective, the protocols. It's really fascinating. I went to a shooting range. They have a retired detective who's on with us full time to make sure everything we do that's complicated in any way is exactly on target, so we don't do anything stupid..."

INTERVIEW: Vincent D'Onfrio and Kathryn Erbe Get Legal About Law & Order: Criminal Intent

"...Recently Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe sat down to discuss this show and what fans can expect from the seventh season.

Is there anything different now that show has moved to the USA Network?

Vincent D'Onofrio: They really haven't changed anything as far as production...

Kathryn Erbe: No, I think the same change that was starting last year is continuing. The show has felt like it's evolving from the beginning. I think last year we had a change in our main writer... and our shows executive producer. They came on and really started to breathe new life into the form in terms of the way that they were shooting it. That is continuing... adding the focus of our private lives. That continues right along but the only thing that feels different is that USA is incredibly excited about having us. Wanting to promote the show and wanting to get the word out that we're going to be on USA and they've been incredibly flattering to us. Its felt really good.

Vincent, your portrayal of Bobby Goren is really inventive and I was just wondering how you approached this character going into the seventh season?

Vincent D'Onofrio: Well, I'm not sure if our show influenced the other shows or not. I don't know it's hard to say who came first... all I know is that the first few years of the show was about... making the show work and making it different and we worked very hard to do that. Then, after the last three years I brought it back a lot. It was much more internal because I was a bit tired. The best thing about right now is because Warren Leight is very good at writing characters, because he's a playwright, and his writers, they write very good, character driven scripts. What's nice for us as actors in doing that is that we have the last 6 years to fall back on. Our fanbase knows exactly what we've been working towards and what we've said about us as characters. We can play with that now, we have a lot of... as the character of Goren there's a lot of substance because of the last 6 years..."

'Law & Order'
On the Case
October 12, 2007
By Simi Horwitz

Excerpt:

"Read any New York actor's bio and you'll probably find at least one of the three Law & Order shows among the credits. The long-running franchise has been one of the city's biggest employers of talent since the original series debuted on NBC in 1990. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit began in 1999, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent (now on the USA Network) premiered in 2001.

To learn how all those cops, lawyers, perps, witnesses, and lab technicians are cast -- and how you can become one of them -- Back Stage spoke with the principal casting directors for SVU and Criminal Intent and the background casters for all three shows..."

Buying toys can help libraries

BY RACHEL MONAHAN
DAILY NEWS WRITER

" City school libraries will get a boost today when Caroline Kennedy helps a group of Brooklyn stores raise money for books to get more kids reading.

Kennedy, who will be joined by borough stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and Kathryn Erbe, will encourage shoppers at the Acorn toy store on Atlantic Ave. to spend so their money can be used to beef up school libraries. Shop for Class, a program that benefits schools, has recommended that Acorn and other participating shops donate 2% of their sales during the promotion.

The funds are sorely needed, said Kennedy: New York State spends only an average of $6.25 per student on school libraries, she said. "It's nowhere near enough to have quality libraries in all our schools," Kennedy said..."

This is an article from "The News & Observer" in Raleigh by their staff writer Danny Hooley. Apparently, he really likes Criminal Intent. I agree with him! Read the entire article at this link.

L&O Team Gets Better

"One of my favorite moments in the new season of USA's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" is when the unkempt and unstable Detective Bobby Goren turns to his partner Alexandra Eames and asks her if he's really ruining her career, as a spiteful perp yells while she's being led away in cuffs.
Having just cracked yet another difficult case with her difficult but brilliant partner, Eames wearily says, "It's too late," and just walks away.

She's half-serious. Vincent D'Onofrio's Goren returns for the seventh season of "Criminal Intent" more unstable than he's ever been -- also "fatter, grayer and scruffier, like he doesn't shave," notes fan Eileen Reed from Wake Forest. "But he's still cute!"

The show's move from NBC to NBC Universal's USA cable channel doesn't mean it's the unloved runt of the litter. It's still the best of the three "L&O" shows, no matter what ratings say. And of the two partnerships on the show -- Goren/Eames and Logan/Fallaci -- Reed and I agree that Goren and Eames still take it hands down."

I just read the good news about C.I. returning to nbc in repeats YEAH!!!!!!!!! Ihave a question, when will the 11th episode be shown? It would I suppose have to air on usa first, but then on nbc.Do any moderators have any idea when it will be on either network? Either way I can't wait to see the show back on the nbc schedule, even in repeats. I am very excited about Untethered it should be amazing.I dread Bobby being badly treated but he will win the day,he always comes through.I will be there with all of you in spirit on Thursday night, but won't see the show here untill Sunday(barring any problems with our station ctv).I can't wait I envy you all.

I will probably get my wrist slapped for this but here goes, ctv here in canada has removed criminal intent from it's schedule, temporarily I hope,I am trying to reach any moderator in canada who is on ctv board,I've tried the ctv forum but it is virtually hopeless to get through,so as a last resort if anyone in canada on the ctv board reads this please find out what you can about the changes in the show and post answers here.sorry if this breaks nbc board rules but it is very irritating to lose the show now,I hope you understand.

Law & Order: CI's Vincent D'Onofrio Finally Goes Off the Deep End
By NINA HÄMMERLING SMITH
TV GUIDE
12/6/2007

Excerpt:

"...TVGuide.com talked to D'Onofrio about the show's new network, what it was like shooting at New York's Rikers Island prison and how he plays it crazy.

TVGuide.com: First off, Criminal Intent is doing really well on USA — how do you feel about the move?

Vincent D'Onofrio: Two things are happening to help the show now: Warren Lieght, our showrunner, and his team of writers are putting out some of the best scripts we've ever had. And the other thing is USA: They're treating us as if we're a new show; they're behind us in everything that we want to do. And our fan base is still getting used to us being on USA, but most of them have come over and are still watching, and I think more are joining.

TVGuide.com: "Untethered" is an incredible tour-de-force performance from you. What was it like to shoot?

D'Onofrio: Kate [costar Kathryn Erbe] and I both are enjoying some of this personal stuff going on. The first episode this season dealt with Kate's [character, Eames'] history. It's more like film work than TV work. I love it. Anytime you get to deal with more emotions and backstory, you're just prone as an actor to do more specific work than just telling a crime story.

TVGuide.com: What was it like doing much of the episode at Rikers?

D'Onofrio: It's a very depressing place. It's not a place you want to spend a lot of time. The guards are very efficient — you feel very protected. You don't feel like you're in any kind of danger. They're all huge fans of the show, to tell you the truth. [Laughs] You sign a lot of autographs, you take a lot of pictures, and everybody takes care of you and makes sure you're not nervous about being in a place where criminals are incarcerated.

TVGuide.com: Was it inspiring to be in that environment, shooting on location?

D'Onofrio: It's always nice. I guess that's what I mean about the film work — usually when you do a film, you're in the real place you're shooting, or something like it, rather than on sets being built. It always helps..."

Chris Noth & Alicia Witt Talk Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Sex & The City & More

Excerpt:

"Last week NBC Universal held a press conference with "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" Star's Chris Noth (Det. Mike Logan) and Alicia Witt (Det. Nola Falacci) who talk about the upcoming mid-season finale titled "Senseless." The two become emotionally involved in the pain of a disenfranchised community which must confront pointless murders. Co-starring Ben Vereen as "Rev. Jeremiah Morris," Daphne Rubin-Vega as "Carmen Mendoza" and Jesse Garcia as "Felix Aguilar" it's a ripped from the headlines story about a four African-American college freshman, who pulling themselves out of the ghetto and into college, are senselessly shot on a playground, in a racially charged case. This very special episode airs on December 13 on USA Network. Chris also talks a little about his role on the upcoming Sex & The City movie. Here is a transcript of the interview..."

Peachy I read the interview it was okay ,not as interesting as Vincent's but then neither is chris noth. One thing I noticed he mentioned a traditional Law&Order Christmas Party at the Cutting Room,is this a joke or do they all get together each year for a party? Maybe someone could find out and we could see some photos of them there.Someone got photos at the B Peace Dinner and at the Talk Radio Premier, so I thought they might be able to get some photos and put them on the board.Just a thought.

Rene Balcer, co-creator of Law & Order: Criminal Intent (with **** Wolf) will be interviewed live tomorrow -- Thursday, December 13, 2007 -- on Minnesota Public Radio's statewide "Midmorning" talk show. Whether you reside in Minnesota or just by a portal to the Internet you can listen in. Mr. Balcer will be the guest for the entire hour, beginning at 10 AM ET/9 AM CT/8 AM MT/7 AM PT.

The principal focus of the interview will be the Writers Guild strike, now in its second month. As returning showrunner to the original Law & Order (and a continuing consulting producer for LOCI) Mr. Balcer is both management and head writer.

As most everyone knows, NBC will be begin airing both series back-to-back on Wednesday evenings, beginning in January.
