This show looks awful. I admit - I have not seen the show, and am only forming an opinion based on the promos that were shown during Sunday Night Football, but what about this show is appealing? I am assuming it is supposed to be a comedy, but if what was chosen for the promo to highlight the show is any indication, my prediction is that Chuck won't make it out of October.
This is shaping up to be another disappointing season from the network that was once home to Seinfeld, The West Wing, and okay, it's hard to come up with a third great show on NBC (There are some current shows that have some potential - Heroes, and some that may have been great once, but have lived on well past their prime - ER, Law and Order). This started off as a post about how disappointing Chuck looks, but this is what you have to expect from the Peacock, who would rather fill it's airtime with mindless, "popular" shows that fade from memory as the credits roll - Howie Mandel, I'm looking at you.

The stench of predjudice in the promos for this show make me want to upchuck.
I personally resent and reject the sterotypical "hapless nerd", lacking in social graces and baffled by anything outside his comfort zone of RPG and high tech.
Personally and professionally, I find it particularly repugnant that your average nerd must be so lacking in skills, that Chuck would need a scrawny blonde poodle to protect him.Why is the bear so angry? click here

This show sucked. The plot is lame. Disable a bomb with a virus? Um, yea - if I wanted to watch Independence Day, I would have rented it. Chuck is a good actor, but that's about it. Yvonne Strahovski is nasty. I thought she was hot from the previews until I watched the pilot in HiDef. She has REALLY bad skin and her teeth are messed up. I expect (and deserve) more from a leading lady. All the beautiful girls in Hollywood and this is it? My girlfriend is hotter than this chick, and she's like a 4

Plus Strahovski is really uncoordinated, you can tell when she tries to "run". At least Jennifer Garner could pull off stunts that looked decent.

I really thought the show was very funny, thrilling and well-crafted; however, I take exception to the reference to pornography. I could have let my children watch the show except for that. The porn reference (actress' name typed on screen), although originally fictional, has quickly become an actual website with porn on it.
To the creators: please edit your future episodes so that the whole family can watch. I think you have a hit on your hands that could be expanded to a larger, family-based audience.

It's a different situation than the ID virus scene (which was dumb, I admit).
That was a perfectly ordinary terrestrial computer. He downloaded a pornographic movie that had instant-attack virus attached to it, which destroyed the computers OS and disrupted its operation so that it couldn't set off the bomb.
Now--why would you use a computer as a bomb detonator? You wouldn't, for that very reason; they're not reliable enough. However, that's considerably more realistic than lots of other stuff in the show; like having a MAC CLASSIC be the super-duper NSA/CIA secrets computer.

What a disappointment. We were looking forward to this show and were amazed at how bad it was. The acting was bad, storyline unbelievable, and the characters boring. Nothing intrigued us whatsoever about this show. Journeyman happened to be great, but the way things go I'm sure it'll be canceled in favor of Chuck. We won't be wasting our time with this show any longer.

I personally liked Chuck's character. It's not so much that he's socially inept, more like he isn't motivated to go out and socialize (he did try to escape at first). He's sort of like Matthew Perry's character from
The Whole Nine Yards in that, despite his obvious shortcomings, he's immediately likable.
Here's a few things that kinda' irritate me though:
- Just like most of NBC's crap Thursday comedies, Chuck gets the majority of it's comedic content from an idiot. Chuck's clingy midget friend either needs to get killed off or undergo some serious character development.
- At first, it looked like they were setting the CIA and the NSA up to be enemies, which, without delving into my own little political theories, I thought was a great idea. Chuck suddenly teaming up with one member from each agency really killed the concept if you ask me.
- Am I the only one that noticed some key moments from the opening espionage sequence were taken from the
Master of Escape video?
- And yes, the joint computer being a laptop in a room full of lights was pretty lame.
The reference to pornography I can kind of understand. I know NBC started the whole Sexy Manatee website just because O'Brien made a joke about it, so I think they should have taken similar precautions after reading about the fictional porn star. On the other hand, if anyone is dumb enough to intentionally look up a fictional porn star
with a comp-killing virus named after her, they deserve whatever happens as a result.

Dear NBC.
Please do not be continue to be a retarded aka "lets cancel every good show we make after 3 shows air" or your network will soon be dead last in ratings.
Please leave alone:
Chuck, its great and give it time to build up a fanbase (you know, that thing that helps sustain a show).
Bionic Woman, so far, so good.
Journeyman. It reminds of me The Dead Zone, so leave it be and let it GROW and expand!
I'm still MAD about the what you did to The Black Donnellys. STUPID, STUPID MOVE. With all the money and people you have working for your network, how do those RETARDED decisions even happen? Do you not listen to fans feedback and check other stats besides the TV Ratings? This is a new age and people can watch a show in MULTIPLE WAYS besides having to be home at a certain time each week to watch. And when we do have that time slot free we do TUNE IN because we have kept up with the episodes.
Take a lesson from what CBS is doing with Jericho! (not the stupid cancellation, the comeback)
P.S. - Keep up the good work with My Name is Earl. Such an original show and it has such a unique identity.
P.S.S. - What's up with the line in the second episode of Chuck when he sees a picture and starts spewing out secrets and one was something along the line of "Oceanic Flight 815 was shot down....garbled un-audible words after that"
I caught that one and ahhhh what did he say after shot down!

The porn reference (actress' name typed on screen), although originally fictional, has quickly become an actual website with porn on it.
Okay, so I get that this thread is the place for people to gripe - but I've gotta say something about this one.
If your children are old enough to understand what's going on with that reference they are either able to look up porn online with or without a television reference to it or they aren't. If they aren't - you don't have a problem, do you? If they are, then it's up to you to keep them from doing it, (assuming from your post that you disapprove). Otherwise, it's up to them to make the decision as to whether or not they're going to look for it.
My children (ages 4 & 6) have been watching the show with me. Would I set them down in front of the TV to watch "Chuck" & then walk away? No, but I wouldn't do that with any other primetime show either.
My kids had no clue what the virus site was & didn't care. It didn't detract from their enjoyment of the episode & they haven't been interested in porn because of it.
... How do you know that it has quickly become a real site with real porn unless you went looking for it?

Did you miss the point wherein there was a VIRUS attached to said site? Or did the fact that NBC's reference actually contained an incentive for increased "morality" by showing that there are consequences to one's actions miss you?
I'm not asking you to change your opinion, I just felt that if you could vent yours - I can vent mine.
This is not an issue that I take with you as a person, either - simply with the point you've attempted to make.
As someone who spends a huge chunk of their work week working for free with over 600 kids between Kindergarten & 6th grade, I hear from many people with similar views as yours. After a while, the accountability of parents/guardians to teach their kids the values they find important gets lost. From my experience, if your kids go looking for that site, it's more likely that they found it on your computer's history (from when you checked it out) than because they were actually interested in it.

I agree with some of the people here when they pointed out how the trailers were terrible, because... it basically portrayed the show as being borderline pornographic / trashy / stupid. I know the advertisers were trying to appeal to the "mystery" factor, but personally, I marked it as a show I wanted to avoid on T.V. (Side - they aggressively promoted this show. I rarely watch t.v., but I've seen the commercials for this show several times plus on a bench.) HOWEVER, I expected the show to be so terrible that I was actually pleasantly surprised. In fact, I only watched the show because I was trying to kill time before SUV Law & Order (HOLLA!!!)
I mean, I'm not a fan of all of the unnecessary sexual scenes, because honestly, you have to tailor your show to an audience... and as one of the previous posters commented - the show is definitely not family friendly, even though the humor is for the most part. I like the show because it has a lot of dorky humor, but my gripe is that they are starting to recycle the jokes within like 3 episodes! C'mon now!!! PLEASE DON'T RECYCLE THE JOKES SO MUCH!!! Doesn't this show kind of remind you of the office, except that it's spunkier (the office is a little too dry for my taste) and way more scandalous?
I'm still waiting for the show to create a love triangle or square between the characters. I hope they do not make the show raunchier... because if they do, I'm going to stop watching. (Seriously, is it that necessary to always zoom up on the girl's body parts in EVERY fight scene or have some other girl undress?)
Also wanted to add my additional 2 cents to the show's scandalousness: Yes, there are people who enjoy and love the porno side of it, but you have to take into consideration that this show is on at 8:00pm, or 9:00pm when children / teenagers are still awake. You can always say that it's the parents' responsibility - but it is also the network's responsibility to put appropriate ratings on the t.v. show and to make guided decisions on the content based upon its demographics. I think most "conservative" people tolerate these risque scenes if they have a purpose of being there - not some random shots of flesh with no reason or rhyme. It's tricky to find a middleground since some people like the adult content, while others do not. If you can't tell by my post already - I'm on the conservative side. I believe that the show's problem is that it tries to be somewhat moralistic society-wise (beauty can like geeks, good triumphs over bad, yadda yadda), but its adult content contradicts what it promotes. If this contradiction widens, it will lose substantial support which it desperately needs at its baby stages. I for one love the show because of its type of humor, but I'm also going to cut it if it continues to have pointless adult content.

The thing I hate about this show is the fact that they don't come out with at least two new episodes a week. This is very disappointing in the least. I'm sick and tired of having to wait a whole week just to see one more episode of Chuck. I expected better from NBC. Where is the love for the fans? Do they even care? I think something should be done about this ASAP.
It felt good to get that off my chest.

Wow..the show is AWESOME, FUNNY, and well, one of the BEST SHOWS EVER. Whew. That's out of the way...sooo negetive things.
1. The show is only on once a week, altough that might change after the strike. (They gotta make the episodes last!)
2. Stupid little things....Like the fact someone could just shoot Chuck...ruin the plot.
3. The promos make the show look like a romantic comedy, and people will not watch it the promos look like that.
That's it folks...I will keep scratching my brain for more.

Wow...I really feel the hatred in your post. It makes me feel as though I can't bear to see anymore. I don't think I could take such scrutiny of a show I love.
But I feel as though this part is integral to the show because let's face it, it really is just a romantic comedy wrapped up in espionage. And I have no problems with that, in fact, I LOVE romantic comedies (keep this on the D.L.). The promos are just advertising what the show is really about so if people don't feel it necessary to watch it because of the promos they're totally missing out on a great story.

Writing Totally Ruins the Acting
Ok the writers really suck and the actors can somtimes feel this awful writing and it seems that they are being forced to say the exact same words. The acting is therefore totally suffering and the best moments are ruined by bad writing etc.
Example from the episode where Chuck tells the truth about how he feels to his cover gf and meets Lou:
When the cover gf gets into bed wearing something really skimpy she says "I am being professional".
When Chuck in return says "The world's oldest profession".
That was supposed to be funny but it was ruined by a certain discordance and disharmony. Perhaps "The world's oldest profession professional" or "World's oldest Professional" would have maintained parallelism.
The best moment was when the cover gf (blonde) says she was trained to resist penthanol but the directing seems to be sooo awful that the impact of it is not sustained and you immediately cut away to Chuck meeting the girl who is nice to him : Lou.
I wish the actors the male spy had not spoken so fast about compromising stuff and she had not responded so fast or if there was a visual way of representing that she was lying (if she was shown taking the antidote before she was asked that question ... it would have been more visually communicative?).
Anyways are the actors not having fun here? They seem rigid at times and they seem to be unable to believe their own worlds. Please look at some of writing / direction with heroes (or even the office).

A visual way to represent she was lying? How about the fact that she couldn't maintain eye contact?? She kept on having to look away, looking down. Have you not seen True Romance, or Oceans 11 (new one)??
And the suggestions for the "profession" line, are worse than what was said.

I am sorry but who are you? I just said what made me uncomfortable about the writing/acting/directing.
I have seen Oceans 11,12,13. Why do you ask? I dont think I have seen true romance (it sounds even less substantial than oceans).
Eye contact etc. is not enough. If the director was Mel Gibson (who has mastered eye contact starting from braveheart) I would say fine; but this director/camera/crew is not the same. Maybe they could watch apocalypto and braveheart. The pace is different. They tried an amateur attempt at visuals with the green and red vials (red for danger, green for go!) but they can do a little better. It seems like most of the people are cutting their teeth here. Need someone with a little experience please. Some of the villains are novices or are over reacting totally (this episode with the russian hacker who played extreme guitar in an arcade; that scene was painful to watch).
There are better ways certainly but I communicated hastily what my instincts were about this. My instincts say the show Chuck vs the truth was rather rough hewn. It was a little to jarring to watch in terms of flow and acting and believability. Thats all. Anyways I see this is in the negative section of the board and I would rather be positive. I did like the premise and the dynamic between Chuck and the blonde. Also the male spy is doing ok but there are moments when he is too talkative for a "strong silent military type". His comedy should spring from actions, looks and monosyllabic words ; he should absolutely never communicate at the same rapid pace as Chuck.
Chuck sometimes descends to unlikeable with his weird nerd impersonations. The blonde is near perfect with delivery. The chinese fellow was good ("Tang"). Both the sister and her fiance the jock have good dynamic and are good onscreen.

From True Romance:
Sicilians are great liars. The best in the world. I'm Sicilian. My father was the world heavy-weight champion of Sicilian liars. From growing up with him I learned the pantomime. There are seventeen different things a guy can do when he lies to give himself away. A guys got seventeen pantomimes. A woman's got twenty, but a guy's got seventeen... but, if you know them, like you know your own face, they beat lie detectors all to ****. Now, what we got here is a little game of show and tell. You don't wanna show me nothin', but you're tellin me everything. I know you know where they are, so tell me before I do some damage you won't walk away from.
Ocean's Eleven:
You look down, they know you're lying and up, they know you don't know the truth. Don't use seven words when four will do. Don't shift your weight, look always at your mark but don't stare, be specific but not memorable, be funny but don't make him laugh. He's got to like you then forget you the moment you've left his side. And for God's sake, whatever you do, don't, under any circumstances...
Eye contact is everything when trying to tell a lie.
True Romance, Better movie than 12 or 13, probably comparable to 11.
Who am I, I'm no one. Who are you?

I thought "The world's oldest profession" line was really funny. I understand what you mean about maintaining parallelism. But I thought it was supposed to be a joke about what profession she was being professional about. Euphemism for prostitution? I guess "The world's oldest profession professional" could work if you really wanted to repeat professional for parallelism. But "World's oldest Professional" just sounds like she is a super old professional, which isn't what he meant.
