Tonight is a big night for parminder also, I can not wait to she her scenes also, in her interview she seemed genuine about feeling emotional. I guess when you have work with someone in a storyline from day one it can make you feel emotional thinking of the possiblity that love story might just end. I hope they give her character some happiness in season 14.

ER Preview: Parminder Nagra Finally Has Some Fun
by Rhoda Charles

Parminder Nagra, ER
Becoming a great doctor is not easy, but for ER's Neela Rasgotra, does it have to be this tough? Not only has she loved and lost... and loved and lost again... but she's now been trampled at an antiwar rally! Parminder Nagra, who portrays the soulful surgical resident, couldn't be more delighted at the perils that befall her character — this sort of thing is an actor's dream. TVGuide.com spoke with her and got the scoop on the NBC series' 14th season (premiering tonight at 10 pm/ET)..
TVGuide.com: Let's talk about the new season.
Parminder Nagra: We left Neela pretty much in a state of great danger. The last scene we saw was of her being trampled by a group of antiwar activists. She ends up in the hospital with her life in quite a bit of peril, and you see all of Neela's friends gathering around trying to save her and trying to make it all right. As though things could get any worse, what with Ray [Shane West] losing his legs. It just goes from worse to worse to worse, but the writers have promised me this year that Neela's going to have a bit more fun.

TVGuide.com: I was wondering if she'd ever catch a break!
Nagra: Right! I was actually at a dinner party and somebody said they wanted to start a petition for Neela because they felt like she'd had such a rough year last year. So yeah, there's some more fun stuff coming up. I have a new intern who will be shadowing me and I think there was talk also of a cousin turning up for me this year who gives me the runaround.

TVGuide.com: How long is Neela going to be incapacitated?
Nagra: They fix me and then I recuperate for a couple of episodes and then I go back out on the floor again. You know the beauty of television is that you can always fast-forward a few weeks and then suddenly you're well!

TVGuide.com: Was it hard to play a helpless patient lying on a gurney?
Nagra: It's tough lying there. You have chest pieces laid over you, which adds this kind of weight that can get quite uncomfortable. It was a real experience. I have to say I was pretty glad to get off that gurney by the end of the week. I was quite sick of it.

TVGuide.com: With Ray's shocking accident and the loss of his legs, is this the end for Neela and Ray?
Nagra: I don't know where they're going with it. The writers at the moment are leaving it fairly open. I think they're going to wait and see what happens. Obviously, somewhere along the line it has to get addressed.

TVGuide.com: There's been this simmering passion between them for years. Were you frustrated that they haven't gotten together?
Nagra: It was actually quite nice to play that kind of push-pull. When she was with Gallant [Sharif Atkins], there was that feeling of being guilty — living with another man yet being married to somebody else and then having to deal with being conflicted [over that situation]. If she'd gone with Ray just like that and suddenly realized within a couple of months that he was the love of her life, I don't think that anyone would have believed it or bought into it. But it's a shocker, finally, that when they kind of just about stated what they feel for each other, something bad happens.

TVGuide.com: How was it playing that scene when Neela first sees Ray after the accident?
Nagra: I have to say that during rehearsals, [even though] psychologically I knew it wasn't real, I still felt really upset. It was really quite something. It was one of those scenes they took their time with — not in the usual ER style where you're rushing around. They really gave the time to both of us, and that felt really good.

TVGuide.com: Your character has had quite a journey as well, from uncertain med student to confident doctor, and now you're on the other end playing a patient. What was your favorite stage to play?
Nagra: There's an episode called "The Student." It was a huge transition for Neela where she was going from being an intern, not even a surgeon yet, into a full-fledged resident in her first year. She goes through this tough day in the ER and really grows into herself. That was a huge moment to play. She realized what made her tick and what upset her. I loved that episode. Sometimes you see it in the credits. I literally collapse crying in the drug lockup after Gallant takes the fall for something that really was her fault and she's trying her damnedest to correct everything. It's the first [time we see that] the genius Neela has a flaw — she has a kink in her armor — and she has to get back up again. That's what I've enjoyed playing. Every time she gets hit with something, it's like, "How does she deal with it?" That's been a lot of fun to play.

TVGuide.com: She is a very strong character, but at the same time she's always vulnerable.
Nagra: Yeah, even the moments when she struggles, she always finds her way through it and just as you think she's coming back on top, something else happens. She's certainly a resilient character. [Laughs]

TVGuide.com: We have a new chief in Stanley Tucci. What other changes will we see this season?
Nagra: They're not telling me as much as they used to! Stanley's coming on for a few episodes. I think Noah [Wyle] may be coming back for a few as well. At the moment that's all I know, apart from the intern that's joining me. Right now we have a cast of six, which is quite scary — when I joined the show there were 13 regular cast members. I think the writers feel really good about it, though, because now they can actually concentrate on a small number of people.

TVGuide.com: And what about Goran Visnjic?
Nagra: He'll be coming in and out as well in the course of the year. Actually, he was just here now for the read-through — it was lovely to see him.

TVGuide.com: Is your new intern going to be your new love interest?
Nagra: No. I think when you see it, you'll see why! It's all a part of the quest for Neela to have fun this year. Now they've actually got me ice-hockey training as well, so you're definitely going to have to watch because I don't even know what they're going to do!

TVGuide.com: Have you ever been on skates before?
Nagra: Once when I was 14. So it's going to be very interesting. But as I said, it's fun! [Laughs]. They keep flinging things at me that I kind of go, "Why is Neela doing that?" and then I kind of embrace it because why wouldn't Neela be doing that? People have hidden talents and hidden things that nobody knows about.

TVGuide.com: I hear you got a doctorate from the University of Leicester this summer?
Nagra: I did get a doctorate from my hometown university, so I am officially a doctor. That was a huge moment. [It was] quite emotional, I have to say, because it was something that I really thought was out of my reach — that I'd never do it now that I'd gone so far into acting. So to get it this way was amazing.

TVGuide.com: We got to know you with Bend It Like Beckham, and then you moved to L.A. and now David Beckham has moved to L.A. Is there some cosmic connection between the two of you? Will we see him in a cameo on the show?
Nagra: [Laughs] Oh god, who knows! They had Serena Williams on a few years ago, so I wouldn't be surprised if they did ask David.

Love Mindi's interviews, but I swear she's trying to be soo diplomatic and not say anything too inflammatory, lol. Ah, well, thanks for sharing. Like hearing Ray stuff and that Neela's gonna have fun this year! She's also the only reason I might still watch the show smile.gif

Havent read it all so I dont spoiled all the season, but the fact that they asked a lot about Ray is very good, and she did say he's the love of Neela's life so I really loved that interview!

Wish you all a happy start of season biggrin.gif

I'm just amazed how a comic relief character has become the central romance character.
mackiaveli
Morris was the comic relief character that has just started to branch out. Neela has a nice sense of humour. But Neela has been anything but a comic relief character. She actually has had strife, troubles, and tragedy befall her at every turn since her debut. And has always been presented as a leading character from the start in the ensemble. She's the central romance character because she is the hottest female on the series right now in my opinion. And because Parminder is a very skilled and charismatic actress.
philibuster
I just LOVE Neela - she's the reason I started watching "ER." Neela's obviously my favorite character - she is SO adorable, how can anyone say "no" to that face? Parminder's such a great actress, and not to mention that she's got to be the most naturally beautiful exotic looking woman ever. Ever! I just love her eyes...I don't know if she realizes it, but she acts to much with them without even having to say a word. They are SO expressive - that's REAL acting talent where you can have a facial expression, look, or mannerism and not even have to deliver a line to get a message across. Examples? Any scene with her and Shane West in them! Neela and Ray have the BEST chemistry I have EVER seen anywhere in any TV show or movie, and I have seen LOTS and LOTS of them.

When I watched Neela and Ray together on "ER" I agree that they have the best chemistry hands-down. Before "Reela," my other favorite great-chemistry couples were Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard) & Michelle Dessler (Reiko Aylesworth) in "24" and Matthew Perry & Salma Hayek in "Fools Rush In." (Yes, I know that Reiko will be in "ER" and I was excited until I heard she was Gates' new love interest. YUK!! I guess sacrifices must be made, just as long as he isn't with Neela anymore and leaves her alone, that was so nasty to watch, I can't stand him. He'll always be "Uncle Jesse" to us from "Full House!" LOL)

I love ya, Neela! Now get Ray to come back, darn it! rolleyes.gif
brown_brigade
I'm a huge Parminder fan too. Her earlier work like Bend It Like Beckham and Second Generation is impressive. Finally an Indian female on tv! She is the reason I started watching ER as well and I am really upset that they didn't let her and Ray get together. They would have made the perfect couple. ER just isn't the same now that Ray isn't around.
philibuster
I'm also extremely upset that Ray isn't on "ER" with Neela anymore...it is so sad, and the show has lost it's spunk without him. Parminder and Shane have such perfect chemistry together... Neela and Ray deserve to be happy together...please "ER" - bring Shane back!

I also loved Parminder in "Bend It Like Beckham" and "Second Generation." After seeing Parminder in "ER" I loved her right away and purchased her movies. I've also seen her in "Twelfth Night." She's such a terrific actress and is very underrated in Hollywood - it's a shame that Parminder isn't more popular than she is..Keira Knightly seemed to take off after "Bend It" but I guess it's because she lucked out with big hit films like the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise.

Anyway...I love Parminder, she's the best. She's so talented and naturally beautiful. Shane and Parminder would make a great couple in real life, wouldn't that be nice? tongue.gif

i totally agree with marlye here...cant remember for sure when exactly i started to "fell so deeply" for our roomies, but now that it happend i want to see more. i've heard about that writers strike and everything, but just give us a little bit of hope ...otherwise i'm not going to watch season 14 when it finally will be aired over here.

After "ER" has run its course, I'm hoping that Parminder would find another American TV show to join, that's be awesome. (I'm hoping she could be a character on "Heroes" my other favorite show.) I'm really gonna miss her as Neela. Hopefully Par will stay in America and continue acting here, otherwise if she returns to her homeland of England, it will be difficult to follow her career for some of her projects, because some movies she is in are not in wide release worldwide. I've been trying to find some of her older acting roles to rent or download but they are very hard to find because they are all from British TV and such - BBC doesn't bring everything on their channel to America. Please stay with us, Parminder - we love you! smile.gif
Sandalwood
phili -- 'save the roomies, save the world!' lol, love that sig. smile.gif

And i'd love it too if Mindi would stick around on American screens. In the meantime, depending on this strike, looks like we''ll see her for another year on ER.
aleunam
So there is going to be a 15 season with Mindi on it?

I agree that her chemistry with Shane is amazing, and they will be cute, but they seem like really good friends...

And Im such a fan of HP, so I wish she would have a part in the movie, probably the 7th cause the 6th already started to be filmed, but I would love to see her being part of it.
sem1973
I was wondering if anyone had any information on Neela's family? I remember her saying she was putting her brother through college because her parents did the same for her and that is why she was strapped for cash. She then moved in with Ray because it was cheaper that way. I thought I also read somewhere that a brother of hers died. I'm not sure if this is true or not. I also think her parents visited her once after she had returned to Chicago after turning down the out-of-state job. If anyone has any information and can share it here that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Peace,
Sem1973 (Susan)

A brother of her died, at age of six, she was little too, she revealed it on the NICU epi I think.

Her family visited the hospital the day of the graduation. -It was a huge family! She was giving them a tour-.

Then their parents were there when Neela was without job, and without the residence. -The father was the same actor that played her father in BiLB-.

And yes, there was that mention, that she send a check so her brother can go to college, the same way her father pay for her education -so I assume shes the older one-.

Theres no much more -consider Im on the Latin America level so...
Sandalwood
Mindi's latest project. I don't know when this will film, so I wonder if she's doing it now since she's got free time due to the strike or if it's planned for summer when the show would have been on hiatus anyway. (If she's allowed to go off and work on another project now, do you think that means TPTB are not planning to resume shooting the rest of this season??)

Nagra: set to star in The Changeling. Photograph: Channel 4

ER and Bend It Like Beckham star Parminder Nagra is taking a leading role in ITV1 drama The Changeling, starring alongside Ray Winstone.

Nagra will play privileged Anjika Indrani in what is being billed as a dark story of desire and lust.

Loosely based on the Jacobean tragedy written by Thomas Middleton and William Rowley in 1622, The Changeling follows Anjika as she tries to escape the clutches of her family.

Having returned from completing a degree at Cambridge, Anjika finds her rich father has arranged a marriage for her.

Her father's chauffeur Flowers - played by Winstone - offers to help her out.

But in return he wants to spend the night with her. The evening leads to a dark and obsessive relationship.

The ITV controller of drama, Sally Haynes, said: "This is a modern and innovative take on a classic piece of literature, transposed to a wealthy and glamorous world.

"It is atmospheric and sumptuous and we are very excited to be bringing Ray Winstone and Parminder Nagra together on ITV for the first time in such a unique project."

The Changeling was written by Joshua St Johnston, who wrote the BBC's 2005 adaptation of Sweeney Todd, and is being made by independent production company Size 9.

Executive producer Michael Wiggs said: "Size 9 is thrilled to be working with Laura Mackie and Sally Haynes at ITV, and we're hugely proud to bring Joshua's second screenplay to life following the massive success of his debut script Sweeney Todd."

The Changeling is produced by Steve Matthews and directed by Sarah Harding, whose credits include Queer as Folk, Lewis and Torn.

I’ve been keeping up to date with the Fan fics around the Reela storyline and I note they have all been from the Ray perspective i.e. Ray coping. Ray not coping. Ray having mini breakdown etc. etc. Yes. Poor Ray, my heart genuinely bleeds for him. But… …

What about poor Neela?
In the early days of ER, if someone so much as raised their voice, banged a door or broke a fingernail, they were sent for counseling. Yet, here we have Neela having been through more traumas in an 18 month period than most people go through in a lifetime and she’s fine! Her only therapy was YOGA!?!
Think what she has been through and all without a family to support her.
At a time when she was in denial that she had feelings for another man, she loses her husband in most tragic circumstances.
On the day of his funeral, she is called back to work to save another colleague’s life.
Then, within days, without even giving herself time to breathe she hits on Gates!
But realistically is it any wonder, given her guilty over the state of her marriage that she turned away from Ray? She explained the guilt, confusion etc. in ‘I don’t.’

So there she was, finally having turned the corner surely things were set to improve for her. But not at all, just a year after losing her husband and bang the bottom drops out of her world once more.

After fretting about Ray for days, she arrives to visit him at hospital totally unprepared for what awaits her. Poor girl, her head must have been spinning.

Then bizarrely, to crown it all, Katey was there. What was poor Neela to think? Despite his declaration of love, she must surely have believed he was moving on.

Then, as if that was not enough for one day, hours later she had an accident and almost died on the operating table!
I can’t remember the full extent of her injuries but I know they were fairly horrific and she must have extensive scarring from the surgery!

Has she been for counseling? No, she seems to have sailed through everything and that without any family support. I beg to differ. This girl must surely be suffering from PTSD! Either that or she is made of granite!

Ray on the other hand has been brought home to the bosom of his family to recuperate and no doubt has received extensive therapy and counseling!
Who I ask is likely to be in a better mental state???
