I just spent the last week logging in to this forum to post. It is sooo worth it. Tina Fey's show is great. She has all the talent you need to write and appear in a TV show . She could stand on stage in a suit of armor and wave, and I would watch. If you don't like the character interactions then turn to Cartoon Network and "The Foster Home For Imaginary Friends" for your daily fizx of witty banter! I say keep the show and lose that dog of a show "Americas Got Talent". NBC should continue to pay her copiously, and find a place for her in my TV set. I need a good reason to use electricity, and this is one good one. Thanks Tina , thanks for being on TV and giving America a reason.

Agreed with losing 'Americas Got Talent'. That show sucks and takes up 2 slots a week better used for something new to pull this network back to respectability.

And lose The Biggest Loser also. Nothing like seeing big topless men with man-juggs cry. That's a show that should have been thrown on Bravo at the beginning.

yeah agree. man jugs. uhhhhh

Is there anyone har who wathced this with a semblance of humor? One thing that brings funny to mind, or at least the thought of ha ha? Nay, it lacks any worth? It lacks one essential: Comedy!! This show sucked, and that is a nice qualifier. Just sucked 30 minutes of my life, not to mention the 2 hours it took me to log onto NBC's message boards. But I was so mad at watching this show, I spent it. Cause this show was unbelievably bad, Oscar Wilde and the wallpaper bad, that I can now see why this network is falling apart. **** you for making this on any type of recordable instrument. Ferrous oxide, or digital bits, deserve better. Barney Ross

PS... I just previewed my post, and it rearranged about 14 words I had written, such as "their" for "there" or "watched". I guess NBC doesn't care for criticism. That is why they are in 5th place. Unbelievable, but understandable.

Someone's on dial-up. Thinking it's the guy above me.
Alfredg
No, each time I wrote, they messed up my spellings. Still, the show was beneath contempt.
Steephyn
Ummh, this is intelligent comedy. Alfredg "" seems not to have grasped quite a lot of things in life.

30 Rock boulders! I was really quite suprised at how good it was. I laughed from scene one!
Alfredg
Intelligent comedy is "Candide" by Voltaire. Intelligent comedy is "Bob Newhart" by.....Bob Newhart. Intelligent comedy is...not this. This is what we put behind ourselves, when we are in the smallest room of our home.

Too funny laugh.gif

I think everone is missing the point of my post. Doesn't anyone want to see smart comedy with the actors in armor?
Vajj
All in all not bad. But Tina, did you have Alec throw that bit at the end in "127"? Come on now, it's Ok if you're a little heavier than that, you're still a cutie! I thought Rachel did a good job with her part also.
Black Widower
Alfredg, for hating the show you sure wasted a lot of your sitting at home doing nothing time to post your message 12 times over.

good point.

PSS... I was just censored for the use of the word...."Frankly, Scarlet, I don't give a ****" which NBC was the first network with B**** to show. GE, and NBC, and all that do this network. Die in a Fire.

Lacks Comedy? You are probably looking for a stuffy old person comedy, such as Frasier or Little house on the prairie or something similar. This show joins the ranks of the likes of "The Office" and such, with its witty, open type of humor. Its obviously geared towards someone with an open mind to a new type of humor. Don't knock the show just because you don't get the humor grandpa.
marinaas2
before she completely ruins herself and her reputation.

I tried. I really did. I watched last week when Tina and Tracey Morgan went to the strip club. Something bothered me but I just couldn't put my finger on it. I like Tina, I really do. And Tracey Morgan is hysterical. So though I wasn't really enjoying it, I figured I'd give it another chance. So, last nite, I was looking forward to another episode. It took me virtually no time to put my finger on what was bothering me. TINA FEY CAN'T ACT! Sure, she's great at delivering 1-liners doing the news on SNL, but her delivery on 30 Rock was exactly the same!!! It's as though she wasn't really talking to the other actors, but just delivering these LAME 1-liners. Alec Baldwin is the only saving grace of this show. He's an amazing straight funny man! Please lay this terribly wounded dog down and shoot it. I don't think that moving it to Thursday is going to do any good.
IamLostRU
First off, I don't like the show at all either. I've posted on other threads why I find it's simply terrible in virtually all ways...not just lacking in any humor.

As a point to consider for the last poster: Any show, especially a major network prime time one, promoted as being funny/humorous, that - as many on these boards and entertainment type articles have said - fails to get it's purpose across to much of it's audience, is not excused by claiming "people don't get it". Especially, as in this case, the failure being described is the exact definition of "not being funny", generally considered failure, and the best of reasons to knock the show.

As a general point - I've also noticed how the response by many to someone that criticizes the show isn't to disagree by citing reason or justification, but to attack and try to personally insult the person that provided the opinion.

As the attacker likely lacks any real knowlege of the other submiters intelligence, experience, or even general likes & dislikes, I believe that in itself is reason for the retort to be dismissed entirely. On the other hand, to the degree these attacks themselves frequently are, or approach, showing true bigotry and ignorance of many types by their presenters, maybe they really should be given all the meaning that requires!

Maybe NBC is sending it to Thursday to die...

I enjoy 30 ROCK it reminds of "Frasier". It has good humor in the cast and funny dialogue. Baldwin cracks me very much in the show. I guess everyone used to the "Seinfield", where the show needs a quirky sidekick like Kramer, or upset, easy go lucky "George". Since there are a lot of show that presents themselves as comedy such as "Scrubs". I think 30 ROCK might lasts as long as "Friends" or unless Tina Fey decides something else.
likuidsilver
I love 30 Rock. the whole idea is awesome i love how the laughs come quick and i don't have to spend a whole hour to get the story. its really great. The chemistry between the characters is showing great strides of development and i really admire that. This show much like 20 Good years are considered loser shows but i have faith in them. i beleive in these two storylines. TO:: Tina Fey you are great i love your ideas and i hope you relax and hang in there while this show developes its fan base and momentum. KEEP ON ROCKIN IN THE REAL WORLD!
ROACHEART
Hmmm, don't send her back to SNL, bring back Will Ferrell.
SNL402
please don't send her back to SNL. let her do her own thing--seth meyers is doing fine as the head writer.
AutumnRecluse
PLEASE NO! DO NOT SEND HER BACK TO SNL!

SNL is just now recovering from the budget and ratings crisis she drove the show into!

Seth Meyers isn't the best head writer but at least he is not Tina Fey. SNL needs a serious revamp, but it still isn't as bad as it was last year.
pianokeys
SNL has gone down the crapper and Will Ferrel was the only saving grace in the last five years.
mikeshap
I don't think anyone needs to scrutinize the opening credits of 30 Rock to realize that Tina Fey didn't write the last couple of episodes. They haven't been nearly as funny as the first two episodes that Tina wrote. There were a few laughs--like when Jack (Alec Baldwin) said to a writer, "Don't use Jeb Bush. He's a friend of mine. Use Barbra Streisand or Sean Penn instead." Or when he said he was going to Ann Coulter's 60th birthday party (actually, I thought she was closer to 70). And Kenny the NBC page is emerging as a funny character. But if Tina wants this show to survive, she needs to pick up a pen and start writing (or re-writing) the remaining episodes. When 30 Rock moves to Thursdays, it can find a whole new audience. So it makes sense to have the "A-list" material on display. Tracy Morgan's character, which was so funny in the first two episodes, now seems marginal and underwritten, like his scenes were shoehorned in, rather than being properly integrated with the plot of the show. I suspect that Tina is really the only one who can write for Tracy in a way that does justice to his character. After all, they spent enough time together on SNL.

Some of the 11/1 show was just stale and cliched. There was that scene where Liz (Tina) was talking to a writer about a sketch, but he wasn't listening because he was too busy staring at the hot receptionist in her skimpy outfit. When Liz realized he wasn't listening, she started spouting non-sequiturs like, "Donald Trump was eaten by a lion on the international space station." That was really funny. At least it was funny the first time I saw it, on an "I Love Lucy" rerun from 1953. When Lucy noticed that Ricky wasn't listening to her, she said, "And then after I slept with Eisenhower, I told him that he should forget the slogan 'Dwight Is Right' and go with 'I Like Ike' instead. And that worked out pretty well for him." And it wasn't even original back then. That's the kind of thing Bob Hope used to do in his movies, and probably dozens of comedians before him. In fact, back in 1663, Moliere wrote a comedy called "The Impertinent Mistress" that utilized the same comic technique. When Monsieur Le Bris realized that Regine wasn't listening to him, he said, "I believe Louis XIV is standing behind you wearing nothing but a large pelican on his powdered wig." And I clearly remember an episode of "Get Smart" where Maxwell thought that 99 wasn't listening to him (in fairness to 99, she was under the cone of silence at the time). So Maxwell said to her, "Last night, I was attacked by a large wolverine wearing a nehru jacket. Would you believe a medium sized schnauzer in a dashiki?"

Tina, I implore you! This show is your baby. (Well, actually, your new baby is your baby. But I'm sure this show is important to you, too.) Don't trust the writing to anyone else. I read that the 11/1 episode of 30 Rock only attracted 4.8 million viewers. That's fewer than the Golf Channel, Univision, and "Match Game '75" on the Game Show Network (although you did beat "The Dumbest Supermodel" on Oxygen). So please start writing. And also you should dance on every episode. It's funny when you dance.

SUGGESTION FOR FUTURE SHOWS: Show more scenes from "The Girlie Show." Aaron Sorkin has done this on "Studio 60" with some success (remember "Nicolas Cage, Marriage Counselor"?). I'm sure you have lots of unfinished sketches from SNL that never made it onto the air (okay--most of the SNL sketches that do make it onto the air are unfinished so I guess "unfinished SNL sketch" is something of an oxymoron). Use some of those. I bet they're funny. And dance.

UPDATE FOR 11/16 SHOW: Some funny stuff (like Alec Baldwin looking into the camera, and his outtakes from his promo spot), but they seem to be relying way too often on the really old, stale, cliched jokes. This week, Jenna asked the producer if she could sing her song at the end of "The Girlie Show". He said sure, no problem. Assuming he would say no, Jenna then started begging to be allowed to sing. And then, of course, realizing he said yes, she offered the stock "Oh--you mean I can?" response that they teach in acting 101. Stale, staler, stalest. By the way, I'm not a big fan of Jane Krakowski, but I must admit there was something oddly enticing about the song she did at the end of the show. Not really sexy, but...something. I'm not quite sure what it was.

During the show, we keep hearing paging announcements in the background ("Jenna, Ghostface Killah and Yo-Yo Ma to the stage for the Muffin Top Sketch"). How about paging Tina Fey back to the writer's room to make the show funnier?

Ew, I can't stand Seth. I miss Tina every Saturday Night now. I think Amy annoys me more than Seth though. Seth is growing on me slowly. Amy's annoyed the **** out of me since Day 1. But this is about Tina, not them. haha.

Loved you on SNL. Was anticipating your show and it didn't disappoint. Heard Alex and Tracey on Howard talking about you and heard you today on Howard. Didn't disappoint. I'm a sexist and I think women aren't as funny as men...bad me... but you and a few other women are very, VERY funny. (and sexy). Keep up the funny ****. I know you have no control, but don't make me look around the dial for one of the few good network shows. Thanks for making me laugh.

Tina Fey,
I respect you a lot. I like to think of myself as a writer and I need to know what your suggestions would be for somebody that would like to become a comedy writer. I know you just can't go to the want adds and see 'comedy writer' in big, bold letters. ( I wish)

Please help me and the others that would like to know.

If 30 Rock were to keep going with the Lemon wanting a baby thing from last night's episodes and she was in one of those Maury-esque situtations, who would surprise you most as her baby-daddy?

Jenna had all the mostly male cast chasing after her with that whole baby admission thing. I'd like to say Kenneth because he's the most unlikely character and one of few that didn't ask.
Brent_K
Wow..i'm not sure who would be a good "baby-daddy" for Liz. Almost all the men on that show are pretty whacky.

I would have to go with Jack. wink.gif
tvjunkie07
Well i think it would just be flat out funny if we thought kenneth was the baby daddy but then found out it was someone else. Can you imagine what Kenneth's mom would say?!

But if i had to choose one character to be the daddy, i'd have to agree with Brent on this one and go with Jack. tongue.gif

By the way i'm new here at the NBC boards and wanted to say a quick hello to you all. smile.gif

Welcome to the boards my friend. I hope you have a great time here, everyone is really friendly. wink.gif

I actually made this for someone as a joke on a completely different board, but i remembered a topic along the lines of a "baby daddy" here, too. Found this picture, and it was just too good to pass up: http://s134.photobucket.com/albums/q115/si...rrent=1copy.jpg

Love the show, I somehow missed the episode where Tina's character began being called Lemon by Alec Baldwin. What is the meaning behind her being called Lemon, It's been bugging me not knowing.
CleTuStdog
Elizabeth "Liz" Lemon is the name of the fictional character that Tina Fey plays on "30 Rock".

Isn't that Zha Zha Gabohr's Husbands Child ?? tongue.gif

in one interview she said she wanted her character to have a really GREAT name because in the showbiz world, she said people really call you by your last name. So she wanted a great last name.

So Lemmon. She is Liz Lemmon lol.

Dearest Tina,

On a recent episode (I believe it was on 2/22/07), a character called in sick but came to eat in the building where he works. When Liz asked why he did that, he said he gets an NBC discount. Doesn't he work for NBS? Oops? Thanks!

Tina, you're genius. I love 30Rock and the cast you've assembled. I saw a great documentary on PBS recently about Second City and how Scott Adsit, Rachel Dratch, and yourself were alums. How does that history of improvising together help you as a writer on the show? Oh, and my wife and I are thinking of moving to Drexel Hill- how's Upper Darby School District?

Employee discounts are great, But when I worked at a certain retail store they instilled the fear of God in you if you were caught mis-using the discount, I saw people fired over the issue, Hey the store is still making money right?? why would they even question someone buying 6 Xbox360's haha dry.gif

NBS is the network on Studio 60. On 30 Rock, the network is the realistic NBC and several jabs are aimed to NBC and its partners GE and Universal, and all such subsidiaries.

Did you see Tina on Conan, very good interview, I (as a guy) was most pleased to see Fabio carry Ms Fey on stage because you could almost see up her skirt (Guys notice those things) very generous indeed :-P then there was a bunch of talking and stuff, I liked it blink.gif
Freckles1329
Nope, I missed it and I'm ******. But I saw a clip from the interview online.
forthecheeses
Tina was amazing on Conan! I just expected him to introduce Tina, then have a short, sweet interview on 30 Rock's new material. Then Fabio carries her in for a "The Year 2000" short! It reminded me of her "straight-faced" days during Weekend Update on SNL. I was laughing for a long time before I realized that they had gone to a commercial break. Alec Baldwin was on Letterman, I believe, so that was nice too! My two cents? Tina's life is a whirlwind of success, love, fun, and Lord knows what else. I'm pretty happy for her and those glasses. She's beautiful and very blessed.

forthecheeses

Oh, and I loved the part where she describes the scene as [countless steamy adjectives] sex scene you will ever see, Conan comments "I didn't know I was in this show?", bangs the microphone against the desk and Tina pours water from her mug.
forthecheeses
There's nothing like being nominated to play Tina Fey in your college's very own version of SNL. Tonight was amazingly fun, but the work put into a show is crazy hard! I loved every minute of it.

I have a new appreciation and love for Tina Fey.

Anyone else have cool experiences like this? I hope I'm not the only one....
