It's obvious it won't. The favorite character of most viewers quit (Caan), the most versatile character on the show was canned for "salary dumping" (Cox), they completely changed the feel of the show by adding "Cowboy Selleck". They added a really annoying 22 year old kid that I'm honestly going to hope during each and every episode that she eats a bullet (that concierge), they are making the single most whiny and annoying character on the show (DeLinda) a central figure as opposed to a fringe character....
Oh, and it's on Friday nights at 10 pm, which tells you all you need to know about what the execs think of it.

The ratings are actually a little higher than last year. I like the show, they did a good transition. will it be renewed? I don't know. Last year with James Caan and Nikki they almost got cancelled and only had 17 shows, so don't blame the changes. I miss Ed, but Mary was pretty pointless, she is not missed by many .

I like the show.
So I hope it continues.
The city of Las Vegas...for all it's glitz & glamor now.....started out as a dusty cowboy town.
It is located in the Southwest.
It is surrounded by ranches.
So I think that the character of Cooper is a good fit, even though he is from Wyoming.

I am so disappointed with this season I can barely stand it. Las Vegas was my favorite show last season. I loved it so much I would record it so I could rewind it and re-watch scenes. This season, I can barely get through an episode. The show has lost all of its luster.
Firing Caan was mistake. I like Tom Seleck as an actor but I can't warm up to his character in the show. I don't like the way he is written. The writers haven't made him human. They haven't given him any emotions or personality. He comes off as unapproachable piece of wood. What's there to like?
Delinda is useless. Now that Daddy is gone, I don't get what purpose her character serves. She has never really had an evolved storyline (putting her in a box or wedding dress doesn't count). So they knock her up to give her something to do? Why not get rid of her and put someone interesting in her place? I am simply befuddled as to what purpose she serves on the show. And we get it already, she likes sex!
Making Danny President was a mistake. Even the writers don't know what to do with him now. They made him President yet he is the first one Sam goes to for security issues. I am confused. Isn't that Mike's job?
I really delighted in the interaction between Danny and Mike. It was fun. They were like an old married couple. Now the show has ruined that by separating them when they made Danny President. And speaking of Mike, at one point the show seemed like they were heading in the direction of giving him more meatier storylines, now he has been relegated to being a hanger-on again. Mike is one of the most interesting characters. Such a waste.
What is going on with this show?! How could the writing have dropped off so drastically? It's sad because it was so good last year. Now it's just silly fodder. I suspect this is the last season for Las Vegas and perhaps the writers know it and have given up. It sure looks like they have.

I love this season. It's better than most of the others! Cool contiuining storylines and I love how Danny and Delinda are growing into a couple instead of some corny storyline. It's cool. The baby stuff is being done so real and not too much of it either!
Tom is great. I like the changes a lot.
I think the ratings from what I see are pretty good too!
So yeah it can make it! I hope it does.
I miss Ed at times, and Jillian, but not Mary really. I am glad she is not around with the Danny/Delinda stuff. She was too jealous and depressing.

I don't think Delinda is useless. She is one of the reasons I watch this show. Would a serious relationship with the main character of the show count as an evolved storyline?
Danny is the President of Operations for the Montecito. Somebody should tell him when there is a murder on the premises of the Montecito. He needs to be told as soon as possible.

If they keep making episodes like the one tonight [Ep505], then.....Yup! This show will make it.
Sorry that there are some who are displeased with James Caan leaving and Tom Selleck coming on the show.....what can I say? Nothing ever stays the same, unfortunately.
I never watched this show till this season...and am watching it now only because Tom Selleck in on the show.
For every viewer lost because Selleck is now on the show, I think that there are probably about a dozen people like me who are tuning into this show for the first time.
These people don't frequent message boards, though....they are older, with busy lives, and prolly don't even know that this forum exists.

I think with the loss of James Cann, the show will go away faster the Caveman did. One of the many reasons, Tom Selleck seems so wrong for this show, plus most of the characters are so predictable I dont even watch anymore.

It still has a future.
I thought the transition from Caan to Selleck went well. I can't say I miss him at all while watching the show. Mary's character had become a joke, its unfortunate that they deceided to keep the whining and pass it to Delinda though.
I like the new girl and the way they're using her. She shouldn't be, and isn't a central character.
Delinda's pregnancy is taking up too much time. Unlike others I like her on the show (even with the whining) and don't mind the story at all. I just think it should be scaled back a little.
They seem do for a good old, lets figure out how these guys are cheating the casino episode.

The writers strike may be a good thing. Danny is supposed to be operations director of a multi-million dollar corporation, but he acts likethe manager of McDonald's.

i remember when i first heard about james caan leaving the show, and thinking how its probably going to suck. as far as mary goes, i thought she was good on the show, but i wasnt nearly as mad that she left as i was that james caan was leaving. however, now that the show has been on w/o him/them i havent found myself disliking the show at all. if anything i enjoy it just about the same. i think that people who say that sellecks character is too private thats fine because it makes you wonder more about him, and hope to get to know him more w/ each episode. i also dont miss all of the constant tough guy stuff that was always going on w/ caan and josh. i enjoyed it, dont get me wrong, but sometimes it went a lil over the top. i think the new girl "piper" is great. i enjoy looking at her immensely, and she's written really well. i think she's like a mini-sam, and i think the the 2 of them together will bring some funny episodes should they become friendly.
anyway, will the show make it? I sure hope so because much like w/ every season it has a lot of cool new things to explore. the one gripe i have w/ the show is that "mike" isnt more involved w/ things. i think the disconnect w/ "danny and mike" is kinda bad because they were always fun together, but w/ danny about to be a father he cant get into that type of thing anymore. i think they need to add another character or two to open up more things, and branch out. how about the strip club that was bought? could be some type of spinoff there.

I don't usually write into these types of forums, but feel it is very important now.
I've loved VEGAS since the beginning episode, and have talked so many of my friends into watching it. However, since Ed and Mary have been taken off of the show it just isn't the same. Ed's wife has also been taken off, so what happens to the storyline about how happy they were to be grandparents.
Selleck just doesn't cut it as the new owner. He has no substance, and if anything, the show would have been better if you had just let Sam own it, and see how she might have struggled to keep it going with the remaining cast members.
You've taken one of the best shows that ever came on television and made it a just an average show.
I disagree with some of the replies about the stories. Except for one, they've all been excellent, and would have been better with Caan there. He was the show, and you let him get away.
I don't know what you can do to save the shoiw at this point, but I hope that you figure something out. All of the cast are fantastic except for Selleck, he just doesn't belong there, and if you don't cut his character I'm afraid the show won't make it to next year, and that would be such a shame.
I couldn't wait till the new shows started this year to see what happened after the final episode last season. We all called and e-mailed each other so we wouldn't miss it, and be able to talk about it the next day. Now we only talk about how dissapointed we are with the show and Selleck as the new lead character.
Just my opinion and the opinion of all my friends who've been faithful watchers of the show.

Honestly its a kick *** show, I have been reading what you guys are saying about last years story line and this years and yeah some of it is true, but then again you have to give it a chance, maybe Ed will somehow return for delilas wedding.
This is a kick *** show and i love it on friday nights at 10, its a perfect night for a great show.

Face it, fans. The show has jumped the shark. Moving Delinda into a leading role was a horrible mistake. Sure, she's great looking, but her me-me-me-me whining wore out by the second episode. If there was a golden globe for most annoying character in prime time, she's a shoo-in.
Selleck is fine, but surely the writers could have come up with a cleverer way to bring him in without selling the Montecito for what . . . the third time . . . or is it the fourth? Apparently the writers went on strike before the season started, because this year is a disaster. The "buddy" relationship between Danny and Mike is gone. Delinda comes across as nothing more than a blonde bubble-head . Sam has gone totally wierd, and is acting more like a hooker than a guest-relations professional.
Selleck could have come aboard as president of operations, for an absent Caan, leaving the Danny and Mike twosome intact. It would have been more interesting if they dumped Delinda, and rekindled the romantic relationship between Mary and Danny.
Finally, they need to stop with the lame, quirky side stories. Writers . . . listen up. If you need a side story to augment the main story of the evening, dig a little deeper. At least half of them this year have been teeth-grindingly annoying.

this show will make it. imo this show is getting better and better every season. the casts, writers, and creator did a great job for every episode so that's why this show still air. yeah, some fans hate the direction of the show now but others still love it and more fans coming because of selleck. btw i read from fan site, the strike may be resolved by nov 26, if they make it, we'll get full season (22 eps). yay!!
for bulldog61, just let u know, the strike is nothing to do with bad or good writing of las vegas. it's all about the writers (all writers such as tv show heroes, desperate, talk show, etc) want to be compensated sufficienttly - read this
http://www.thefutoncritic.com/rant.aspx?id=20071101again, i'm happy for the direction of this show so far. my bet, we will have season 6.

ITA with your entire post. But especially the line above. This show used to be the best on TV. It was by far better than any others out there running in the same time frame. My husband and I couldn't wait for it every Friday night. Now, it doesn't matter if we see it or not. We still TiVo it but it's not a priority for us to watch it anymore. I am very disappointed what has happened to this show. It will never be the same unless all original actors are on there. And I don't see that happening. So without them..as you pointed out.. this is just an average show now.

I hope this show stays on the air as I am a huge Tom Selleck fan. I had only watched it occaisonally before but when I heard that Selleck was coming I started watching it as often as I can. I am one of those older viewers that has a few other things to do besides watch tv but I try to do my share. I liked James Caan but I really like Selleck. I think Cooper will be developing in the future. He has a mysterious air about him. I like all the characters on the show and I enjoy the relationship/rivalary between Danny & Mike. I don't care much for the pregancy story line, don't see where that is going. But I vote to keep the show. I know, I know, my "vote" don't mean nuthin. Just a fan expressing an opinion. I also watch all the "Jesse Stone" movies with Selleck and any western he makes.

Ummmm . . . where did I say anything about the writers strike? The writing has been sophomoric since the season started - well before the strike. Maybe if they pay them a little more, some better scripts will start showing up.

To me Niki is not a very good actress. The only thing she got going on is her big boobs that many guys I know like to stare at. Her character Mary was always showing a lot of cleavage. That was hard out exaggerated! She was annoying to me and many others I know including the guys that like her boobs. I’m glad Danny didn’t end up with her. She was giving Danny a hard time while she did date Luis while Dan was in the core. When Danny asked her she played dumb. When Danny wanted to marry her she kept whining. And oh my got she got too skinny and put silicon in her lips. People normally do stuff to be more beautiful not get ugly. lol
The creator of the show GST likes Molly Simms (spelling). I knew he would make her stay. I don’t hate Delinda, but I was hoping Danny would do the same to her. I mean in season-1 she dumped Danny like yesterday new paper. lol In season-3 she rushed in to marry the doctor and suddenly realized that she really loves Danny and he accepts her like nothing happened. I think the whole baby thing is a sign that this might be the last season. They will end it with Danny the president marrying Delinda and they have a healthy baby and live happily ever after. Five season for a series is good. I will miss Josh, but I hope he will be on another new show soon or in more films.
I like James Caan a lot, but I love Josh Duhamel. He is the star of the show to me. And James wants to make films NBC didn’t fire him. Tom isn’t so bad. I guess I just need to get use to the fact that James isn’t on the show.
I love the Danny/Mike thing, but it is weakening in this fifth season. I always loved Sam. She annoyed me a little when she was all traumatized by the whole kidnapping thing. I’m glad they dropped that. She is supposed to be strong slutty and heartless. lol
The concierge is funny too. She and Sam are funny together.

I don't think so. I just finished Season 3-4 on DVD and haven't seen any of the new ones after the season ending. So I ahven't seens any after that. I hear Ed and Mary are gone. Who the add . Tom Selick. Come on. Are they trying to kill the story or what. No offense but I can see him playing a serious role and filling the shoes of Ed.
They need to bring Ed and Mary back even if they keep tom. but prefer him out instead. I wantto see Ed the owner and still in the game.

I also love this show but feel it's lost some of its comedy and some of it's mystery/crime solving that it used too [maybe due to Caan's character being former CIA and him leaving it doesn't get into it as much].The storylines that they have had are okay, like the mystery surrounding Cooper's character and so on ,but it just needs a bit more oompf back or it will go the way [I hope not] of other NBC shows-cancelled. I like this show so much I even watch the reruns on TNT.
