Full Version: Questions about the s4 hour-long eps

So now we know that season 4 of THE OFFICE will have 24 airings, with either 5 or 6 of those being hour-long eps. My guess is that in addition to the first four episodes being doubled, the season finale and another episode (probably the Xmas/New Years ep) will also be hour-longs, i.e. 30 half-hour eps into 24 airings.

A couple of questions come up. Like, when they re-air "Fun Run", it'll be split into two seperate episodes. Where does part one (someone suggested it be called "The Accident") end and part two begin, in terms of scenes? Same deal with "Dunder-Mifflin Infinity", where does the second part (I'll volunteer the title "Gift Baskets") actually start?

What about cold open/closes? Do pre-existing aired scenes double as them? Or do you think we'll get all-new cold open/closes, i.e. "newpeats", again where new scenes get spliced in during the re-airs this season?

Just wondering ...

Honestly, it's so confusing that I don't really want to think about it.

But this has been bothering me A LOT over the past few days: where the he11 are they going to split Money for reruns? On first thought, you would think that they would cut it so that the first episode ends with Michael quitting the second job. After all, why would they drag that plot over into the second episode? But that's not possible, because Michael quitting was prompted by Ryan telling him he'd be fired if he didn't quit the other episode, which happens on the SECOND DAY of the episode.

Furthermore, the second day of the episode is very clearly supposed to take place the day after the first day. From the tripadvisor review flashback, we know that Jim and Pam are wearing the same clothes that they wore in the morning at the farm, since that was the same morning. They are both tired. Also, Michael is tired from doing his second job the night before. Kevin tells them to come see his band on the first day of the episode, and on the second day he's mad that no one came the night before. So for reruns, how would it make sense to show two episodes a week apart that are supposed to take place on two consecutive days?

Wow, it feels SO good to get this off of my chest! I'm glad I don't have to figure this out; it's the writers' headache. ohmy.gif

This must be why the episodes are numbered in such a weird way. I don't care - whatever aired first is 401, then 402, 403...

Then at least I have them in a coherent order. Reairings don't concern me unless there is more stuff in them like Traveling Salesmen / The Return from last season.

When they come back from the commercial break about halfway through each hour epi, I've noticed they flashed the TV14 rating. I assumed it was at this point they intended the cold open for the "second" epi to start. I'd have to go back to the DVR for all 4 epis to determine where this is, but my stake is on those points...

Every episode this season (for me) has been rated TVPG. I thought that was really odd. Maybe they're just forgetting to put up the TV14?

It will be odd when they break the episodes up. I was trying to remember what it was like when they re- showed A Benihana Christmas and The Job- but then I remembered that they always seemed to show those episodes "in tact"

That's the problem that occurs when a series goes to syndication. The idea is that the series will be 'stripped' (run at the same time everyday, 5 days a week) in a 30-minutes slot.

Let's see ... how could they be divided (not counting cold open/closes)

1. "Fun Run" could be divided into two 30-minute eps:
1a. "The Accident" (starts in Michael's condo and end with the shot of Jim and Pam kissing in the car)
1b. "Fun Run" (starts with Pam answering phones for Fun Run and ends with Michael puking)

2. "Dunder-Mifflin Infinity" could be divided like so:
2a. "Dunder-Mifflin Infinity" (starts with Pam kissing Jim in the break room and ends with Ryan taking Kelly's hand)
2b. "Gift Baskets" (starts with Michael displaying the gift baskets and ends with Michael watching his employees eat the gifts)

3. "Launch Party" could be divided like so:
3a. "The Invitation" (starts with Michael announcing the satellite party and ends with Michael saying that he cried in the car)
3b. "Launch Party" (starts with Michael telling Angela his requests and ends with Michael and Dwight in NY eating sushi)

4. "Money" could be divided like so:
4a. "Second Job" (starts with Dwight taking orders for Schrute farms and ends with Michael quitting his second job raising his fist in the air)
4b. "Money" (starts with Ryan entering hopped up on red bull and ends with Michael and Jan walking hand-in-hand from the trainyard ...aww)

I really hope they do the newpeats phenomenon again when they re-broadcast episodes this season.

Does anyone know why ALL the eipsodes of Season 4 are not online?

They are all up there, I just watched them a few days ago.
Unless...
I'm gonna go check agian.
Tim_Halpert, i like your idea. That would be good divide of each, but lets hope they dont start running re-runs yet, I want new episodes!
