Adam Baldwin stars as Major John Casey, a National Security Agent, whose main objective is protecting Chuck Bartowski and the vital government information stored in his brain in NBC’s new action-comedy “Chuck.”

Baldwin has amassed an impressive range of over 60 feature-film roles ranging from large studio projects to gritty independents. The latest chapter presents Baldwin the opportunity of a lifetime when writer-producer Joss Whedon created the sci fi film “Serenity” where Baldwin reprised his role from the TV series “Firefly.”

As a teenager in Chicago, Baldwin was chosen from among 4,000 aspiring actors to play the title role of Ricky Linderman in the 1980 film “My Bodyguard.” During that same year, he caught the attention of Robert Redford, and was cast in the hit feature “Ordinary People.”

Baldwin went on to work with the legendary Stanley Kubrick as Animal Mother in “Full Metal Jacket.” Television has also been a great medium for Baldwin as it has provided him the opportunity to play some all-American characters in such projects as HBO's acclaimed “From the Earth to the Moon” and the last two seasons of “The X-Files.” Baldwin resides in Los Angeles.

Ever since I saw Adam in "Firefly" i have not been able to get enough of him!!! wub.gif
I loved him as "Animal mother" in Full Metal Jacket & have seen most of his movies, both good & bad. I am thrilled to see him back on t.v. and I hope this series does well for NBC....

He cool biggrin.gif

A man called Jayne.

I will follow him anywhere. Gotta show my love to the Firefly/Serenity peeps.

Plus I watched the pilot last night..it rocked.
troublemaker
yeah it was awesome.....i definitely watching these shows.......

I'm going to check out Chuck just to see AB.

Everybody!

"Our love for him now, ain't hard to explain
He's the Hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne!"

Woo Hoo - the man they call Jayne back on tv. *sigh* Love it!

Shiny indeed to see Adam Baldwin on this show. Hoping he gets a chance to showcase his acting talents here, which are many smile.gif

It's good to see Adam on TV again. I hope his tough-guy character gets more three-dimensional, as his somewhat similar character in the short-lived Daybreak did.
tracy1101
I LOVE that Adam is back on TV (though lately he seems to be on quite a few shows)! I hope his character does get more screen time, and that we get to see why he is the way he is!
PammyCakes
I didn't even realize it was the same guy until I image googled his name. I LOVED him in Firefly!
jaynefan
WOW!!! Jayne fans!!!!! I love it!!!!!

I hope to see more Adam in this show. Did anyone else seem to notice a slight touch of Jayne in Adam's character??? I actually look forward to Monday now because I know Adam will be on my tv..... wub.gif
TimScribble
Jayne fans unite! This show should get some viewers simply because of Baldwin's role in Firefly. The loyal following is probably viewing. Cant wait to see more him and the new gang on Chuck.
PontiusPython
Ha! A board full of Browncoats. Well, ain't that a shiny bit o' familiar?

I've been trying to keep up with all of Adam's projects. He was great on "Bones" & "Angel" (which no one has mentioned yet).

Haven't played Halo 3 yet, but since some of our BDH's (including Baldwin) did voices for it - it'll have to become a priority.
SunshineAli
Wow, the Casey character had me hooked the moment he was on screen. It took me awhile to realize I had seen Adam on The X-files. I enjoyed his Knowle Roher character and can't wait to see what happens to Agent Casey. IMHO he has WAY more chemistry with Yvonne than Zack does and I like his comedic timing and portrayal. This show is really starting off well. (I hope Journeyman will be able to stay afloat too, love that Kevin Mckidd)

Adam's comic timing is brilliant and it's great to see him in a show where he gets to show his talents off. He and Josh and Zachary are so funny together. Chuck is a ROTFL show and there's not enough of those.

You get whooped on by the sweetest of foes. Some guys have all the luck. LOL! Love the new show... hope to see you in a BigDamnSequel sometime soon.
YourMomma59
Yup, Adam is DEFINITELY my type of man!!! Love Jayne, loving John Casey. I knew this was going to be a rockin' character for Adam when he shot Bryce Larkin first, then told him not to move and then one of his absolute best "Adam Baldwin" line deliveries "I've been feeling a little pasty." How could I NOT watch Chuck? (Be still my little Firefly heart!)

I loved the 2nd episode as much as the first so I'm looking forward to seeing a lot more episodes. Personal opinion only, but Capt. Awesome was funnier in the pilot episode. He seems a little angry now.

Thanks NBC for bringing us this wonderful show!
Archippus
Adam was really good in both Firefly and Serenity. I hope the writing of the show will be able to use some of those Jayne like characteristics. Over all, the show's been awesome, definitely one of the better shows on TV. It has a lot of potential and has been really really good already. I love that they're finally representing some more nerd culture. Hopefully there will be seasons more of Chuck to come!
Julie8
As soon as I saw Adam Baldwin was on the show -I had to watch. He's great! I wish all the best to him and the show and will help spread the word on "Chuck". Adam Baldwin is sexy, funny(perfect timing), intimidating, bold, charismatic - did I mention SEXY? It's worth repeating. He is a very talented actor and has that whole NSA man of mystery thing going on. With a glare, stare or dangerous glint in his eyes- he conveys the bad boy agent I can't get enough of. Did I mention he's sexy?
Guest123
"I won't get et!"
"Rapin' an killin' an eatin' people....when's that get fun?"
"Ooookay, lil crazy person..."
"I could stand to hear a little more."

I love Adam Baldwin!
It's great to see him.

"Bright an shiny Cap'm, bright an shiny."

And yeah....Fox really screwed the pooch in cancelling Firefly.
They never even promoted it!
cordrone
Jayne Cobb - the only man ever to beat Chuck Norris's in a fare fight... well it probably was going to be a fare fight. There may have been money or a woman involved, not sure, Chuck couldn't say through his tears.
evi2001
First saw Adam at Firefly, loved him! Now that he plays an agent he is still playing a cool guy. I'm so glad he is in the show.
AliasSpy
Boy I tell ya...after watching the third episode I must say Adam Baldwin absolutely makes this show! He is just so stunning & believeable.
Guest123
I loved it when Casey threw that heavy box and clocked the big thug. laugh.gif
cordrone
Actually I think it was a microwave that he hit him with. I about sprayed my living room with iced tea when that happened. rolling.gif

Adam is an talented actor and an awesome "straight man" his comidic timing is perfect and...he's **** hot! I <3

Adam" The man they call Jayne" Baldwin will always be Jayne Cobb in my book.

NBC could you please put a picture of Adam Baldwin on the "Chuck" homepage? So far it is only of Chuck and Sarah. And on the message board page the picture is of Chuck ,Sarah and Morgan but again no Adam Balwin. The whole cast is great but Adam Baldwin is my favorite and he ( really me) needs his picture added. Thanks
SunshineAli
Yes, Yes, that would be great. Maybe an avatar of Adam would be nice too. I agree with you Julie, he is my favorite character as well. The show doesn't seem that funny and that complete without him. Actually, I think he kind of steals the show but that is a good thing, especially for NBC and the ratings. I just watched "Serenity" for the first time last night and enjoyed his portrayal of Jayne. I admit to not ever having watched "Firefly" so I guess I'll have to rent or buy the DVD's and get me some more Adam.

:)Ali
deadbeat
I too saw Serenity before Firefly, but I still loved Serenity even though I didn't have the background story. Then, when I found out it was based on a TV series I got the series and watched it straight through... I couldn't stop. Firefly Rules! In the beginning I didn't trust Jayne and didn't like him. After a few episodes, I still didn't like him but I loved his lines the best. Then, he became just about my favorite character. His lines were short but sweet ("I'll be in my bunk", "Let's be bad guys"), and I loved his relationship with Vera (a really big *** gun).

His new character, Casey, is similar to Jayne. He is a tough guy and we aren't really sure what his motives are. I liked him in the first episode, but I thought he was the 'bad guy' until nearly the end. Then, his flying leap to tackle the shoplifter at the start of the second show let me know that Casey could be as much fun as Jayne was. Killing a shoplifter, now that is an interesting theory huh.gif I think he wants to save the country and if that involves killing a few people, so be it. This show looks extremely entertaining, but I am really looking forward to seeing lots of Adam!
cordrone
Yha, Adam is the man and his "John Casey" does remind me a good bit of his portrayal of "Jayne Cobb" but that's a great thing actually. Usually I would be put off by such things but since most folks, me included, were very much deprived of such a great character, in that Firefly was done dirty by the-network-that-must-not-be-named and NBC/Universal has yet to green light a Serenity sequel (please green light a sequel already... your money is burning a hole in my pocket) there is still plenty of room for a Jayne Cobb Casey character to be appreciated.

Also, if you want to talk about Adam Baldwin in regard to his roll as Jayne Cobb then turn your reversible Nerd Herd jacket inside out (come on, every true nerd had a reversible jacket at one point in time right?) so that it becomes your Browncoat and pop on by the Universal HD (an NBC subsidiary BTW) Firefly Fan Forums and have a shiny time talking about Adam, Nathan, Summer, Jewel, Gina, Alan, Morena, Ron, Sean, and of course Serenity herself, all you like. All Nerd Herders are welcome in the 'Verse! Hope to see you there too!

Howdy Cordrone, good to see a familiar face

Cordrone’s right my fellow Chucksters if you want to catch John Casey a bit devolved check out Adam Baldwin as “Jayne” in the hit tv series FIREFLY (it was a hit, the f*>< network just didn’t know it)….and I mean devolved in a good Hi-laious way. There’s 10 times the laughs and 50 times the drama. I’d say that it’s the best ruttin tv show ever made. Rent it or borrow it if you can and don’t want to spend the coin. I have a feeling that you’ll want to add it to your collection of television series that you own. There are only 14 episodes so it isn’t like it will take 6 months to watch them all. I’ll bet within a month that you’ve watched the entire series 3 or 4 times.

Anyhoo about CHUCK, CHUCK is great and Adam is Great in the role of J. Casey. The whole cast are right for their parts. Monday may be the beginning of a new workweek but it just got a little SHINIER

You know, that is something I didn't think about. Adding another show that I love now has me much happier on Mondays. On Sunday I start getting excited... Yippy, tomorrow is Monday :-) I looked forward to Monday last year to catch up on Heroes, but with a nice threesome going on this year, I am actually excited about it. My Mom comes over, we order take out and submerge ourselves into a world of Chuck and Heroes, then top it off with a little Journeyman... Great Night!

So I take it no one here's heard about Alan Tudyk's recent interview? He said he & Joss were talking about a direct to DVD possible sequel... I'll find the source material when I have the chance - I linked from the UT Browncoats page to read it. I'm sure Whedonesque has it covered by now.

I completely forgot to mention in my last post one of the other reasons I love Adam: A dear friend of mine (Jeremy Neish) was one of the big brains behind "Done the Impossible" (the Firefly/Serenity documentary) & he spoke to everyone involved while filming the doc. Adam & Ron were the two nicest people he spent time with. He said they were willing to take time out to chat with him regardless of how busy they were - Adam even did the narration for the film. Jeremy was an extra in "Serenity" too - & though the crew was crazy busy, Adam took time out to meet & greet each of the extras. How cool is that? Seriously, this guy deserves some mega respect.

Jeremy had such a great time with Adam & Ron that he ended up making the documentary slightly longer than planned in order to cut as little of their interviews as possible.

Thought I'd throw that in there for those that live a bit too far to have been a part of the Utah Browncoats associated glory from "DTI".

Thanks. Hadn't heard about that yet. Been trying not to get my hopes up, and then dashed again.
I hated it that Alan Tudyk's character, Wash, got killed off in Serenity. sad.gif
A sequel would be just too cool....but how could they bring back Wash?
deadbeat
I am voting for a kick-*** cousin or twin brother. They could tweek his look a little and have him bulk up more like Adam. The new Wash look alike wouldn't have Wash's sense of humour, but he could stand up to Zoe. He could be a pilot but more of a fighter than Wash was... Until Chuck came out with Casey, I spent quite a bit of my time imagining what a Serenity sequel would be like because I can't imagine it without Wash. Now, when Adam was in Day Break, he wasn't as much fun as he is in Chuck. I loved it when he got cuffed to the bed! Seeing a tough guy brought down buy a girl is always fun :-)

CK,

Indeed I have, in fact I've even seen some video confirmation! Sorry it's a link through a link though a link but still. LOL! Also, I invite you and all the UT Browncoats to join the Firefly Fan Forums over on the Universal HD boards (Also a shiny part of NBC who just ROCKS bringin' our DBH to both big and small screens). That's where I keep up on all my Serenity/Firefly information. There about 1,600 Browncoats there right now and I hope to make it more so NBC/Universal will see the fan support for the sequel and let Joss push the button.

As far as Adam being on Chuck it just rocks. I've heard noting but great things about him and Ron both. In fact I've heard noting but great things about the entire FF cast. All seem like very good folks who enjoy what they do and aren't all pretentious like most actors can be. Just another reason to love and support our BigDamnHeroes IMO.

Well, my understanding is that dead does not mean forgotten to the universe of Joss. I does usually mean REALLY freakin' dead though but while a giant Reavers spike through the chest is a little more than just a flesh wound, I'm sure Joss will find ways of keeping Wash "alive" via flashbacks and such.
PontiusPython
Yup yup. Definately. Buffy died twice & she's still kickin.

That noted, Joss wrote in the Official Visual Companion for Serenity that Alan & Ron could both return - not in the Buffyverse way, but in flashbacks.

It would be so tragic to see Zoey without Wash!

And hey - thanks for the info on the site. I'll post it to our UTB message board.

Hey fellow browncoats how does this sound for a new NBC Monday night line-up

Chuck-7:00pm
Heroes-8:00pm
The New Adventures of Firefly- 9:00pm

I’d call in sick just to watch.

Doesn’t it seem as if the employees of “Buy More” would be FF fans! In an earlier eps of CHUCK I noticed Morgan watching the old b/w, si/fi movie “Them”. I think it would be cool to have Chuck walk up on the Nerd Herd while they were watching Serenity at some point ,or maybe Casey humming the FF tune written by Joss. Think I would fall outta my chair if something like that would happen. Just a couple hints to the writers.

Z
cordrone
Well that would effectively end Monday Night Football for me forever.

Yha, I too have been wondering why NBC/Universal hasn't worked in a little plug for themselves and Serenity. Heck, this is the "Nerd Herd" we are talking about here, they are what most people would consider the PERFECT demographic of fans of the BDM. Honestly, I've been waiting for something to pop up.

It's just one of those funny little nods to the fans they know are watching. Like in the credits for the "A-Team" when Dirk Benedict is walking through a Hollywood set and a Cylon passes him and he just turns and looks at it for a moment.

I also had a notion for a psudo-story line... plot device, whatever you want to call it. I think it would be high-larious to find out that the girl Nerd Herder has a huge crush on Casey because he reminds her of her favorite Serenity character. I don't think it should be a major story line but now and then little things could pop up. Example: For their X-Mas episode she switches with another herder to be his "Secret Santa" and makes him a Jayne hat for a gift or something like that.

I think it would be really funny to have this big tough NSA agent made uncomfortable by a tiny little nerd girl. Sure he can kill a man with his pinky and save the world on a daily basis but dealing with the affections of one tiny nerd girl gets him all flustered. Perhaps over time he is begrudgingly forced to ask for help from Chuck or Morgan on what he should do. Heck if it works out well with the actors, and the chemistry works, then they could expand it more even. Heck, it could lead into a bunch of fun and funny things.
SunnyLS
That's a brilliant idea, incorporating references to Baldwin's character in "Firefly". Perhaps someone will read that and do it.

I love how the writer's are throwing in bits of Pop culture trivia and references here and there throughout the show.
cordrone
Me too. Keeps things fresh and funny without beating the viewers over the head.

Yes, I agree, Casey has some of Jaynes qualities, I just wish we could see him in every single scene. I am so enjoying my Firefly DVD's. I too laughed so hard when he uttered "I'll be in my bunk" it was so funny. I miss the goatee though, must admit that. :)Ali

Cordrone,

OMG, You weren't kidding about Firefly. After catching the pilot of Chuck and recognizing AB from The X-Files, I decided to buy the Firefly DVD set as someone suggested here on this site. WHOA MOMMA that AB is Hi-larious as Jayne and Firefly just rocks. Why didn't I ever see this show and why in God's earth was it only 14 episodes.....?

Now I'm all stuck on Firefly/Serenity (like six years too late) and scouring the internet for fanfiction etc. and digging Chuck because of AB! Thanks for getting me all hyped up on a new show that isn't so new. Is there already talk of a Serenity sequel? and, last question, I'm all hyper now due to FF and Jayne etc., What does "Gorram" mean? I assume it's short for God **** but am not sure why the characters on FF always say it and what the context is. I"ll go away now and try to calm down.....Oh, wait, one more question, Why isn't Adam starring on this show? he should take the whole thing under his very capable wing.....I want it all Adam, all the time now!
cordrone
LOL! No need to settle down over much, I felt the EXACT same way as you when I first got introduced to Firefly. I was 5 years too late myself and seen it all backwards in that I watched Serenity first and THAT took me to finding Firefly. A little bit of a bummer but I'm happy I found Firefly none the less.

As for a sequel to Serenity there has been some rumors (that I hope are true) that Universal (a part of NBC the fine makers of CHUCK and the company that produced Serenity - YOU ROCK NBC/Universal!) is "thinkin' about maybe... possibly" making a sequel. As for answers to what "Gorram" means those can be found HERE

Feel free to join the boards over there too fellow Browncoat!

Cordrone looks like there’s another Firefly fan in the making.

Welcome to the fandom of FF/Serenity SunShineAli. We are known as browncoats and there happen to be several of us here on this very board. If you’re looking to find out more about FF and the Joss verse there are tons of FF fans and many, many fan sites. We aren’t hard to find. Follow the link Cordrone put up to get to the Universal FF boards. Universal is the company that gave us Serenity and we thank them for that. They also hold the rights to any sequels and, as they can tell by just the popularity of that forum alone, the browncoats are ready with the cash to make Serenity 2 a success.

The cast (Nathan, Alan, Adam, Gina, Morena, Jewel, Sean, Ron and Summer) have remained close to one another, to Joss and to the fans. Something that is very evident with CreationCon going on right now this weekend. This wasn’t just a throw away television show it has effected peoples lives. The feeling of “family” really pours through and that’s what the browncoats have become “family”.

I really enjoy Adam Baldwin in “Chuck” and I love the cast on NBC. I think sequels to Serenity would be a great idea and I’d love to see a network like NBC get their hands on Firefly. I feel it would be a great prize for them.

Yes! Great idea.
The Firefly/Serenity storyline is one that could go on forever.
Maybe they could clone Wash and bring him back that way? Hey, it's scifi after all.

Howdy Cordrone, SunShineAli, SunnyLS and Guest123 All your posts got me to thinking. What if Alan Tyduk made a guest appearance on “Chuck”. Wouldn’t that be COOL. Then that got me to thinking ,Well what kind of character would he play? Would he be a Nerd Herd fellow, or just a Buy More employee like Morgan. Seems I always think better with imagery so I cooked up a little visual image to see what you guys think. See below:
