QUOTE (PontiusPython @ Oct 17 2007, 10:58 AM)

I've spent several hours of research time trying to see if anyone on any other fan site has identified the game: No such luck. If it is real, your best bet is to possibly try looking up the questions online & seeing if you get a hit or (and this is what I would recommend) to find someone who TiVo'd (or otherwise recorded) the show in HD & watch the HD version on a big screen TV. Just after Morgan holds up the "Kill Me" message the side of one of the card holders for the game is visible. It's the closest thing to a game logo that's available through the entire scene. I've tried freeze framing it on my 50" Samsung DLP, but again - without HD, I'm not getting a clear enough picture to read it. Sorry. If I have to guess at what it says, I'll guess "Know Ya".
I tried looking up "Know Ya" online & only came up with a Card Party game called "Whad Ya Know" - which bears no resemblance to the game in the show.
Good luck.
Please let us know if you find a definitive answer to your question.

In the future, please check the other pages of the thread (unless it ends up being a 100 page thread or so) to see if your question has been asked. I'm trying really hard to answer everything I can, though my time to spend online is limited. Sorry to be a pill, but I worked really hard on this one.

Thanks CK, we try to encourage people to look through the existing threads before posting but you'd be surprised at how many times someone will simply start a new thread or drop a post into a thread asking something that has been asked and answered before. I appreciate your linking in the response.

Anytime. We all make mistakes, after all.
I'll try to keep up with these things & link back to the response when possible. My only regret is that I don't have more time to give - I'm the local elementary's PTA President & it seems to be eating my life whole. Oh well, there are worse ways to spend time.
Thank you, JD, for the acknowledgement. It's wonderful to know you're watching out for all of us.

I loved the Bondian scene in this episode. Very good stuff. The beach scene was really cool and reminded me of The Spy Who Loved Me.

The board game in the show is a fake but I managed to find out that there is another board game almost like it. It comes with dry boards and dry-erase markers but the questions are on a dvd rather than cards.
The Newlywed Game DVD EditionOn AmazonThere is an older version of the game too and that comes with question cards but I'm not sure if it has the dry-erase boards and dry-erase markers.
The Newlywed GameOn AmazonHope that helps.

Morgan (Joshua Gomez) tries to get Chuck to set him up with Sarah’s new friend. When Chuck finds out that a million dollar diamond hidden in a Malibu mansion is being used to help fund terrorists, he must help these two beautiful women steal it back. Chuck is finding out that Sarah’s job of living a double life, which she is all too good at, is really preventing him from getting to know who she really is. Also starring Adam Baldwin, Sarah Lancaster, and Ryan McPartlin.
Show Cast: Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strzechowski, Joshua Gomez, Adam Baldwin, Sarah Lancaster

Just a quick observation. Its been noted on several occasions that Yvonne Strahovski is a fluent polish speaker her use of her native tongue in this episode however indicated otherwise.
Nearing the end of the episode during the exchange Sarah and Carina have preceeding the ensuing fight scene. Ivonne utters a sentence which sounds like polish.
"...rzuczasz .... jak babuska..." I'm currently at work and unable to rewatch the episode to get the exact sentence, but it sounded like she perhaps said " ciosy zucasz jak babuska" roughly transltated to 'you throw punches like grama' If that's the sentence she uttered and if it was infact in polish then the pronounciation sounded very slurred and americanized.
I'm merely curious if the americanized pronounciation that was a product of the the character/actor's prevelant use of English during the course of production or perhaps Ms.Strahovski has suffered from linguistic atropy. After years of disengagement from her cultural roots.
~phrosty
edit: or perhaps it wasn't polish at all and i'm just reading too much into it.

I've heard elsewhere that it was indeed Polish in that scene, but I personally couldn't even begin to comment whether it was Americanized or not. Now if they spoke Korean or French, I would be able to tell you.

Impressive. However most of the time, the kind of lingual mastery required to notice slight nuances and inflection differences is reserved for native speakers. Or persons who have spent a great deal of time living in the country of said language.
The real challenge (read: pain in the a$$) in the nuance and pronounciation of polish, and all slavic langauges really comes in those damned sharp s,c,z,dz,u, and accented a(ou)e(eu) etc. That kind of cultural and linguistic frustration I know first hand. ... disregard the tangent.

I keep wondering how Carina found Sarah in this episode. After their fight scene, they each asked the other which cover they were using, so she obviously didn't know to look up "Sarah Walker" in the white pages. I know that when they were over at Chuck/Ellie's appt earlier they made it appear that someone was outside watching them. So then I thought maybe she had looked up Casey and happened to stumble on Sarah next door and follow her home, but she seemed kind of surprised to see Casey the following morning. So....how did she know where to find Sarah?
Nun_Chuck
Dec 17 2007, 02:10 AM
Well, the whole operation sounded like a joint operation between the NSA/CIA and the DEA, so I'm sure Carina's higher-ups talked to Sarah's higher-ups and got Carina the intel on where to find Sarah.
Frivtastic
Dec 17 2007, 02:24 AM
It is possible, I suppose. My issues with that would be that a) I would have a hard time believing that the CIA would release that info to a "competing" agency without at least giving the agency a heads-up and

She (Carina) apparently didn't know the cover name that Sarah was using. I would think that if she was sent there she would have had the name of the person she was seeking out.
Nun_Chuck
Dec 17 2007, 03:17 PM
Maybe it's to protect Sarah's cover? Since Carina knows Sarah previously, she can make eyeball contact and find out Sarah's cover directly.

I believe I read that one or more of her parents is Polish-born, so she grew up with the language, but in Australia surrounded by Australians, so she probably speaks it with a bit of an Aussie accent. Her birth name is Strzechowski, but it's spelled more or less phonetically here in the States.

When Sarah mentioned her sister at the beginning of the episode, I thought Carina was going to end up being that sister-that-you-love-to-hate. But hey, this wasn't the first time I've been wrong.
Chuck and Sarah kinda remind me of Scarecrow and Mrs. King.

VBARKLEY, after watching this episode again for the 50th time (j/k) I am now wondering even more if Carina is Sarah's sister. Reasoning:
1) In the game they were playing at beginning of epi. Sarah was talking about how she and her sister were got a bad sunburn.
2) When Peyman (Mr Wookie) caught them checking out his diamond, Carina tells Peyman that Sarah is her sister and Chuck is their brother.
3) Carina hugs Sarah as if they are really close and at the end of episode.
Now after saying all that Carina did invite Chuck back to her room if they survived so would a sister really do that to her sibling... who knows....
well anyway, just sayin....

I can understand your reasoning...but if that were the case we would see that she would be a reoccuring guest, which I did not see in any of the written material. We do see that for Bryce, Lou, and some of the other guests. Would she come back again....? Possibly, but I don't see her as a regular guest.
Now the sister thing has been introduced...which probably is legit, and I wouldn't be surprised to see her show up some how. I can see a scenerio where her sister gets into trouble and Sarah needs to bail her out. Or they happen to run into Sarah's family thus possibly comprimising her cover.
One thing we do know, at least is being hinted, Sarah has had little contact with her family. During the "Nemisis" episode she tells Chuck that she hadn't celebrated Thanksgiving in a few years.
They will develop this more somehow...they need to break through her exterior and make her more vulnerable so that this thing between her and Chuck can further develop. Based on the ending...she is wants this come out...she is struggling with wanting to be real.
One final thought. Her and Carina may have had a lot in common in the past, living the fast life, living for themselves. But losing Bryce and then meeting a guy like Chuck has definetly challenged her value systems. The tremors are only beginning in this girls life.

Apr 13 2008, 04:19 PM
In the Pilot when Ellie was talking to Chuck just before he left on his date with Sarah, Ellie told Chuck that he was aces. Chuck replied "A dad quote, I'm impressed". By his tone of voice and the fact that Ellie quoted him in the first place lead me to believe that both Ellie and Chuck both had fond memories of him. When getting dressed to go to Bryce's funeral in the "helicopter" episode Chuck told Ellie that he was wearing his dad's suit and Ellie told him that she was sure he wouldn't mind. During the Sizzling Shrimp episode, Chuck was telling Sarah about their "Mother's day". He said that his mother left them and their father was there but not really there, so they celebrated the day their mother left them and they learned to depend on each other. Since it seems pretty cold to me to celebrate the death of their mother every year, I beleive that Chuck was telling the truth and their mother left them.
